One of the best breakfasts in the Kemptown area. Generous portions, quick service, and excellent coffee. Reservations are recommended, as the place is very popular.

This place is rightly busy, and I often have to wait a short while before sitting - but it’s worth the wait. Staff are relaxed and fun but attentive, the atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the food is excellent - one of the best scrambled eggs I’ve had. I should add I’m gluten free, but that’s absolutely not problem here. I love coming here for breakfast and lunch and do wonder whether it would be worth their while staying open in the evening for small plates and wines… maybe, maybe not - but I think it would work nicely!

I had a cappuccino from there while on way back from Hos visit. He told,e it was from union but not which blend, wish now I should have asked

We came here for breakfast. Lovely place. The food and the coffee was really tasty. Friendly service. This café also has a very interestingly designed cozy bathroom with hygene products.

Came right around 9 when they opened. Staff greeted us friendly and sat us down with menus. Ordered a variety of drinks that were all great and when food came is was delicious. I had the croissant filled with scrambled eggs and bacon. Perfectly done scrambled eggs. It was very busy by 930. Great little spot.

The food was absolutely delicious and the iced coffee was just what I needed on a sunny day. We sat outside and it was lovely being able to see the sea, and was shaded too so not too hot. The staff were also really friendly. I’d love to see some more vegan options, but the tofu scramble was lush! And it’s great that they don’t charge extra for milk alternatives.

Really good. One of the best eggs Benedict I have had for a long time. The crispy bacon was excellent.

Received a friendly welcome when I arrived at 2pm. Was offered the brunch menu and went with Welsh Rarebit. The food was done perfectly, cheese lightly browned and well melted, good quality bread and the right balance of mustard. The side salad was nice and helped cut through the fats of the dish. Music is at a good volume to give atmosphere but still speak. Quite chilled beats. Coffee was excellent and service friendly. Would recommend.

Best scrambled tofu ever. My husband had the rustic vegan brunch and loved it. Really fresh and delicious food. Staff were lovely too. Will definitely be back!

Lovely, pretty, cozy. Friendly staff and we certainly sat on a pot of tea for quite some time. Catching up as I was visiting from the United States...with a very old friend of mine. It was mid afternoon and both of us were truly not hungry having had lunch earlier. So we really appreciate it. Just having a beverage in a lovely location. Sheltering from the pouring rain in December in Kemptown...lovely earl grey too!

Amazing breakfast - we tried various options and loved them all. Spicy quesadillas just lovely, so is the Rust breakfast or eggs with salmon. The portions are fairly impressive too.

An english breakfast with a twist - delicious - home made beans, and a spinach side - was recomended as an experience in addition to a breakfast and it was exactly that.

I had a fantastic breakfast here today with my nephew… probably one of the best I’ve ever had tbh. Crispy bacon was amazing and poached eggs were cooked to perfection I don’t leave many reviews, but that delicious breakfast was worthy of one 😊👍🏽

The interior is beautifully decorated, very rustic and chic. Service was friendly and attentive. Even though they were busy, our food arrived swiftly. Presentation is flawless and every bite of the breakfast was delicious.

Lovely food, large portions, delicious homemade béchamel, perfectly cooked egg on top of my Croque monsieur. So filling and freshly made. Definitely recommend this if you’re looking for value, nice atmosphere and top notch service !

Die rustikal, gemütliche Einrichtung und das freundliche Personal erzeuge eine ruhige und angenehme Atmosphäre. Wir waren zweimal während unseres Urlaubes hier frühstücken und beide Male war es sehr lecker, besonders zu empfehlen ist das Rustic Veggie Frühstück und der Fresh Tea Lemon&Ginger :)

The food and cakes were lovely, a busy Saturday morning brunch. Tips on better service- The male server very good but the lady (red/brown hair) who gave me my coffee was also on her mobile when she ‘dropped my coffee off ‘ at the table chatting to the phone & walked off, so I had go up to the till to ask for sugar. Nobody came back to check the food was okay, and then had to get up to ask for the bill.

Had a late breakfast here and nothing to complain. Enough to chose from on the menu, service friendly and attentive, coffee was fine, no orange juice available (better none than handing out from the bottle and pretending its freshly squeezed), eggs Benedict on sourdough were good, so was the the rest of the orders for my family.

Here's a good coffee and an excellent breakfast. Nice staff too. Some wobbly tables outside and it often gets packed out with good reason. I kept coming back for breakfast over my fortnight in Brighton.

Amazing Sunday breakfast, sitting down the side of the cafe in the sunshine, eating delicious Mexican eggs and full English and tasting great coffees and washing it all down with delicious fresh made juice, couldn’t ask for a better morning spot!

A must if visiting Brighton. Recommended by the guest house we were staying at. Super friendly staff & very accommodating. Best breakfast we’ve had in ages - looked so tasty we declined any sauces.

Very pleasant pub and good atmosphere the back yard is lovely when it's sunny. Food choices are limited but quality is definitely present.

Great coffee and service from Jack was also brilliant! A great experience for two friends visiting Brighton for the weekend - look forward to visiting again!

Our Airbnb host down the street highly recommended Cafe Rust for their delicious coffees & breakfast. He did well as everything my wife & I ordered was super tasty and the staff were very friendly with us. Must try if you’re in Kemptown!

Rust in Kemp Town is the most delightful local Cafe. We frequent there every week. All the staff, in particular Jack, provide a warm welcome always and a first class service. Always the same faces, which is rare in any commercial environment these days!! The food at Rust offers a good choice of menu. Their coffee is superb! Breakfasts hold much attraction, with delicious sausages and scrambled eggs. While lunch too has excellent specials. In the world of Cafes, Rust at Kemp Town is a hard act to follow, anywhere in Brighton.

Lovely cafe for breakfast with a 'rustic-modern' feel. I had probably the best mushrooms on toast I've ever had along with some lovely green tea. The staff were lovely and made us feel very welcome. The menu is simple but perfect for a decent breakfast or brunch without feeling stuffed. I loved that the downstairs seating was next to the open kitchen, it created a great atmosphere and some beautiful smells. Highly recommended!

Ate a magnificent breakfast at this wonderful place both mornings during our weekend stay. Wouldn’t eat anywhere else now.. food quality and presentation is consistently second to none as is the service! Thank you so much we will be back ! x

I’ve been here a few times and have always enjoyed it. However today changed that narrative sadly. I felt unwelcome and was given noticeably curt, basic, borderline hostile service’ to other patrons by one of the staff (heavy- set woman, bobbed blonde hair) They appear to have an hour limit which is fine, although when paying £15 for a meal and drink a bit tight) Whilst I was dining a group came in and this woman loudly asked her colleague , who did have the decency to look shame-faced , how long I had been in there well within earshot - despite there being two white women working on laptops on their own tables and just drinking coffee who had been there when I arrived. I felt this to be quite problematic as a dark skinned woman and the only POC in the place. It’s a shame as the food is not bad and the dark haired staff member has always been lovely but too expensive to be treated as ‘other’. However lots of ‘other’ cafes with similar fare and prices within a stone’s throw!

I'm not from Brighton so as a "tourist" on holiday for my birthday, just wondered around looking for somewhere nice to have a bite and stumbled on this lovely little gem. Reception upon arrival was very welcoming and kind. Lovely young woman (did not get her name😔) served me almost straight away and made me the most insanely delicious cappuccino I've had in a very long time. I order the Rustic Veggie and the portion size was massive!! Definitely get your monies worth in size and in taste. It was freakin' delicious and absolutely filling. Again, not from Brighton, but when I'm next there I'll certainly be back. 100/100 ✨️

We had a three day stay in Kemptown, as we had two days at the Love Supreme festival. Our accommodation was a 2 minute walk from Rust. We went there for coffee and a gorgeous almond croissant on Saturday. Both were absolutely delicious. We went again on Sunday morning and were lucky to get a table. This time we had the Café Rust full English breakfast - delicious sausage, streaky bacon, two perfectly cooked poached eggs, a big, juicy field mushroom, spinach, a fresh cooked tomato and sourdough toast. Really lovely start to the day. We had breakfast here on the third day too! Accompanied by our daughter, we all had the full English, with one of their lovely coffees and an apple juice. I also bought three slices of their scrummy looking cakes to take home. A really great café with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and great food and coffee. Highly recommend, best breakfast in Brighton.

Excellent service, good choice of food available. I had the vegan breakfast and every mouthful was delicious. Food is excellent everytime I come, good quality ingredients full of flavour. Coffee isn't the best. Don't know if it's the coffee they use, or the coffee makers skills, but I've never been Impressed with their coffee and won't get one next time I go for food.

Great breakfast and still making an effort to minimise cross infection opportunity without going overboard.

Poor service. They gave us a table but no menu and people were getting served for takeaway coffee. Could have told us that it would take long to serve instead of making us wait for so long. Will not go there again
