Went for Christmas day dinner. Food was really good all nice and hot and there was plenty of it. Friendly and welcoming staff. Highly recommend

Heading home from town and my partner and I decided to nip in for a quick one. Didn't quite go to plan as we ended up staying till closing. Great drinks and welcoming staff/regulars.

Had the Cowboy Burger and it tasted awful considering the price, I certainly would not recommend it to anyone. Worst taste ever.

I was on the way home from work and I fancied a drink so I decided to pop in here as it was on my way. I was greeted by very friendly stuff and customers who made me feel very welcome. It's always hard walking into a new pub because there is a certain amount of trepidation that you feel however, I didn't feel that in here it was a nice night. The food in here is great I ordered a cowboy burger and I could not have been happier despite the fact that I'm very picky eater. I would definitely recommend it to anybody.

Avoid the Spirits - a rip off !! £3 for lager (midweek), double vodka & coke (dash from the pump) £7 !!!!

The Royal Telegraph has a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Staff are friendly, both drinks and food are decently priced, the menu has a good variety and staff always make sure to double check with you about allergens. There a pool table which is always fun to play at and weekends are always brilliant here with either a DJ or a live act. The pub is also dog friendly and myself and my dog pop in here frequently and he is always made to feel as welcome as I am and offered a drink of his own.

I went last night with a group of friends from work as we were headed towards town but decided to call him for a quick pint which turned into a lot more than that 😀😀 had a really good night here will definitely be coming back again. The stuff for all pleasant and the beer is reasonably priced nothing to complain about here.

Went into the Royal Telegraph for a quick pint passing. Met some of the locals and had a really good laugh. Bar staff were friendly and welcoming. Visited the place everyday during my business visit.

Here in Derby on business having booked into the wrong hotel.. Needed a place for a bit of food and drink...with the footie on for 2 nights. Landlord & landlady very pleasant and accommodating. Food and drink did the trick on both evenings...

Shopping in Derby just before Christmas is so tiring.As we prodded towards the train for home,we called in for a light lunch.Always welcoming,this venue provides a refreshing pint and meal to set us on our way.The licensee is always a pleasure,and the staff are the same.Lunch with a couple of drinks for about twenty pounds is really reasonable.We will retur.P

I recently had an issue at this pub with the landlord who appeared to be not very well trained and quite unprofessional in his actions ,I highlighted this to the business who own the pub but no actions were taken ,not the best of customer service and I feel he will not be here long with this attitude.

I am writing this review now because of the Poor Customer Service from a. Marstons Ares Manager who I complained to about an issue that took place in this pub .I used to frequently go to this establishment because of the benefit of its location for car parking and also have lunch after some shopping but about a month ago whilst waiting for my wife and a work colleague I had a really terrible experience over an issue relating to just simply asking about a price of a drink which was handled badly .After making my point in a civil but forthright attitude I was told that I would have to leave the premises, I duly left through the beer garden with the landlord marching right behind me , once we got to the car park I asked his name of which he replied try and find out not very professional and then simply said your barred ,I was amazed at his reaction but then laughed to myself and preceded to walk to my car ,at this stage he attempted to run after me until his partner shouted his name Ian to come back .I then just looked at him and thought how can anyone react as a pub landlord in that manner.Unfortunately for him my wife and colleague were sat waiting for me in the beer garden and witnessed what occurred of which my work colleague took a short video ,I just feel so sorry that the event of asking a simple civi question about pricing had come to this situation.It is Marstons loss that myself wife and lots of my colleagues do not visit here anymore and after 30 years in Management I feel that the above person really needs to think about his actions before making a complete fool of himself ,I have moved on as I don’t need to be greeted by what I thought was an aggressive approach more like a football hooligan than a landlord I’m afraid .Unknown to me the short video was placed on social media for people to make there own mind up about the above incident , Sad really but life moves on I only hope they learn something from this as you never know who is watching and listening in life

I have visited this establishment many a time and to be honest its never really impressed me. The pub is located in der y city centre and has a big smoking area out the back with a small TV in the corner. The pub has many of tv's and pool tables so is good in that aspect. I once heard someone who I believe to be the manager tell a customer she had to have the curry how it came as it was just a microwave tesci curry.. A bit poor really considering most pubs can knock up decent grub at a low cost these days. The beer is ok ish but not cheap really. I feel there's many better places within walking distance. Hopefully the work on the food and make a few more changes in the near future.

Bloody brilliant place. Staff are excellent and even though it was busy the food was amazing! Best burger I’ve had in a while. Well done to the chef working today. (20/10/19) you did an awesome job! Would definitely recommend everyone to try this out.

We were tired and hungry from walking and touching around the shops of Derby.A quick meal and a drink before catching the train home would be nice.Good food,good drink and very good price was out lot at this oasis.A very friendly Crewe welcomed us into the roomy eatery.We will return.

Lunch at the Telegraph is variable,ample,delicious and well priced.We called in for lunch and ordered two small platters and two drinks costing only thirteen pounds.The good was great,and of course the Marstons Pedigree was well kept.We will return

My twin brother Stephen and I were staying in Nottingham for six days and decided to take the short train ride from Nottingham to Derby to take in some of the great real ale pubs in this lovely compact city and check out the amazing Derby Cathedral and The Royal Telegraph Pub was one of the many pubs we visited and what a great find.

Been here a few times on the way for a curry.expensive now I'm guessing it's changed hands £9+ for 2 drinks garbage never again.ta ta.😚😚

Popped in for an evening meal. The staff were very friendly. I had gammon and chips and my husband had the double burger. Both were excellent. The gammon was juicy and tender and chips fresh and crispy. The burger was rather a challenge. It was huge but no complaints. I

I visit Derby every couple of months and how I love this place. Perfect ambience, perfect beer, tasty grub in a perfect Boozer.

No frills. Value beer. Lots of sport on televisions around the bar. Pride themselves in having some good ales and lagers.

It ticks all the boxes! Great location, ample parking, typical but tasteful carpeting and wood and a lovely beer garden.

We had a great two course meal, and a bottle of wine. All delicious and very reasonably priced. The barmaid was very friendly, speedy service and helpful.

So back in Derby again and re-visit The Royal Telegraph again. I do love the friendly welcome you get here. The food is pleasant and comes with a pleasant price tag. The bar is what it is, a sports bar, so expect every tv to be showing just that. Has a large beer garden, funky seating and a couple of outdoor televisions to enjoy a game on. This isn’t so much a family pub but my children are always made to feel welcome and have a great menu for the younger ones. I’d imagine being in the city centre, you wouldn’t want them in on an evening when it’s really busy but hey isn’t that anywhere. On an evening when my kids are tucked up in bed with a babysitter on hand, myself and my husband have visited for the karaoke. Such a great atmosphere, the Derby people sure know how to have a good time.

We called at the Telegraph last night for dinner and were really impressed with the food. I had the chicken and bacon salad and it was really, really good. Massive portion and a variety in the leaves. The steak and ale pie was also good but the Yorkshire platter was just ok – decent sausages but not great mash. For the price we were super impressed.

Staying close buy got a couple of nights in business, and had eaten at the hotel the previous night with mixed reviews.

Myself a friend and our two babies went into the pub for lunch. The refurbishment was lovely. I was a little put off when I asked for a high chair and was told they didn’t have any despite offering a young children’s food menu. We made do feeding the boys in their pushchairs. The service was incredibly slow. The bar man (landlord) working alone with no waiting staff or additional bar staff. After our meal I asked where the baby changing facilities were to be told there weren’t any and I could change him on the toilet floor!! It’s supposed to be a family pub.

We been to the Royal Telegraph in the past and were keen to see the refurbishment. It's now a very pleasant place with a fresh looking interior. Wine prices are very reasonable and the selection of food is good. I order the Chilli, my partner ordered the Chicken Tikka. My Chilli arrived looking more like a soup. It wasn't very warm either. I was on the verge of returning it when my partner reminded me of the suspicion we have of what the kitchen staff may do to returned food. So I tolerated it. To describe it as "ok" would be a compliment. It was bad. Cold, watery with very little beef. I should add the my partners Tikka was fine. No-one enquired whether the meal was OK and the plates were not cleared away all the time we were there. We will return and I sincerely hope that the food improves and the staff show a little more interest in their work.

hi we came here in July 14th 2017 and loved it. We originally just popped in and ended up staying most of the evening. reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere!

This is the 3rd time I have been to Derby and sadly I don't think I visited the Royal Telegraph before. It is a lovely pub, the menu is great and it has a warm, friendly atmosphere. I may not have eaten this time but it's on my radar!

This pub as had a major refurbishment wich has been done to a good standered, there is a good atmosphere and the staff are very polite and efficient, with a good varied menu wich offers light bites for a very reasonable price wich is great if you haven't got a massive appetite. Great for sports as there are multiple screens, games machines, pool tables, they also offer parking for two pounds if you fancy nipping in to town which is great value compared to other car parks which are double the price. I will definitely be returning especially as the prices for drink and food are very reasonable.

What a delight. I came here with my husband and three children. I was met at the bar by a lady whom I presume is the pub landlady who assured me it was absolutely fine to bring my children in. Affordable pub grub. Pleasant staff and quick service, even in the busy period. Fantastic ambience. Now can't wait to get a babysitter for the evening karaoke that was advertised. A genuine 5 star service.

Called in for drinks before dinner. Large pub with pool tables, sport on TV, good selection of draught beers reasonably priced. Plenty of seating in variety of styles, booths tables, high stools etc. Didn't eat but checked menu out and it seemed cheap enough with plenty of choices. Would return when in the area.

Great Pub on the outskirts of derby city centre. Walking distance to the train station and bus station. Opposite the intu shopping centre.

Fuimos allí para una comida con amigos, ¡la comida era increíble, tenía una gran bruch por £6 creo que había mucha comida, salchichas, bacon, huevos, tostadas de hongos frijoles mis amigos ir allí los Domingos la oferta. El personal del bar es muy agradable y bonito lugar para ir.

£3:50 a pint ,place empty pool table £1 a game did not find any thing I would return for... believe they sell food but looking at the place would find this basic grub

Great for a few pints before heading into town but I do know the place gets full with the Derby home fans on match days. It's definitely not a real ale pub but they still have a large selection of drinks on offer and a beer garden round the back is a plus when the weather is lovely. Great location and as not far from the station and on the way into town. Worth a quick visit!

We visited this great pub again today. As usual we got a lovely, warm welcome. In passing I had mentioned that I like a particular flavour of cider and I was pleasantly surprised to find that they'd ordered some in for me!My partner had the roast chicken and I thought I'd try the sausage n mash special with Yorkshire pudding. Neither of us were disappointed. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and the potato was fresh and totally smooth. There was no fat or gristle in the sausages and they were not at all greasy. We had not eaten all day and we both agreed that waiting for Sunday lunch at the Royal Telegraph was well worth it. With excellent prices and massive portions this is not to be missed! Thanks- we'll definitely be back

I've had many of the meals on the menu here and they are all cooked lovely and all for such greats prices, this makes it all worthwhile.

Visited to get a sunday roast and it was excellent and great value. We had the half roast chicken with peas, carrots, green beans, potatoes, stuffing & yorkshire pudding with a pint all for under a tenner. The service was also good with order taken quickly and food arriving after around a short wait. Will definately be visiting again.

We had just arrived in Derby and decided to try lunch in the pub. It has a lovely bar and the staff were very helpful and approachable. We ordered Sunday lunch- my partner had roast beef and I had the chicken. We have tried Sunday lunch in numerous fine dining places in London and Windsor and I have to say we both thought it was amazing! The flavours were as they should be. The roast beef was cooked well and there was plenty of it. The chicken was lovely and not overly dry as you sometimes get. It was not all fancied up- it was just cooked to perfection. Thankyou. We shall definitely visit again!

I gave this place a visit having stayed over the Night in Derby only recently.Having spent the early part of the Night chatting and having a few Drinks with someone I had met in the Hotel I were staying,I decided to have a Wander towards the Town Centre for a Couple of Beverages once my Company decided to retire to Bed for the Evening.This was when I came across the Royal Telegraph on London Road.On Entry it was evident that I had just missed the Evenings Football Match that had been Screened,on its Many TV Screens as I suppose it shows most of the Sport Screened by Sky Sports.I was only here for a Drink so cannot comment unfortunately on the Food but the Girl behind the Bar was quite Friendly and Chatty and the Lager I had was also Palatable.Quiet for a midweek which is what you can expect anywhere but looks to have the potential to be a Busy Pub,especially on Weekends.

Whenever me and my family are in town we always go here for a bite to eat. Bar staff are always lovely! Food is amazing...but not this timeI don't know if there's been a change in chef's (if so get a new one!)I had the large brunch. My sister wanted the Brinner but got told they had no potatoes so she had to choose something else and her partner choose a Sunday Dinner.My brunch, sausages were nice and the eggs were nice even though they were very runny. They put a handful of fries on my plate due to no potatoes. Beans were cold and I don't know what the bacon was but it was Brown and looks more like steak! Then we found out they hadn't even got bacon so I don't know what I was eating! The cutlery looked like it had been dipped in water and we didn't even get them wrapped in serviettes the bar woman just through them on the table for us to share out. Before we left the family next to us had to rethink a couple of choices due to no food As Well! How can you not food in a pub is beyond me!

My sisters and I chose the Royal Telegraph for our lunch. We all enjoyed our well-cooked food (chicken fajitas and rump steak) and a couple of bottles of really nice white house wine at only £7.25 a bottle!

Every time I visit this establishment, I am amazed at quality of the food and drink at the price. It is my first choice go to or a decent lunch when I visit the City centre.

A dubious experience at best, but as a city centre pub it has a few good points. Foof was well presented and above average for a CC pub. the bar staff, obviously hardened by the job (hopefully) would not get a job in any 5* establishment but are efficient and fairly friendly. I'd go back but not for football on the TV.

Go to telegraph when in town for shopping.Strangely never busy at lunchtime but it is a good place to eat and drink.Had great fish and chips and partner liver and onions both well satisried!. Good pint or Pedigree and 18quid bill won't better that value in Derby wherever you go!!.Service good and only negative is high volume of TVs but that is matter of choice.Go and enjoy.

A group of 12 of us visited on Friday evening for a birthday meal and it was fantastic. As ever the food was delightful and the service second to none. I recommend their steak menu, we all had steaks and each one was cooked to perfection. Good selection of wines too.

Everything about this place is average. The food, the beer, the prices, the atmosphere, the welcome and the location. No complaints - worth dropping in if you are passing - but not worth going out of your way to get there.

Brilliant food and really good value for money. A must when in Derby. I recommend the mixed grill. This place also has a good old fashioned pub atmosphere.

Visited this pub a couple of times over Christmas and I must say I enjoyed everything about it. Warm friendly staff, brilliant food (especially the steaks), four rotational ales kept in tiptop condition and overall a really enjoyable pub atmosphere. I recommend this pub to anybody looking for food or a drink whilst in Derby and can't wait to return again. Well done to all involved.

Called in for a pint or two but as the title says I had a few issues with the Royal Telegraph. On entering there was an awful "frying/fried" smell which seemed to be lingering around not a good start. Next up is the dreaded TV screens, there are numerous ones dotted around, but why of why have the TV's on then have music blasting out as well, either have one of the other, but thats my opinion. Finally a little tlc would not go amiss as the pub/restaurant is looking a little rundown. Saying all that the Royal Telegraph was busy when I visited so their customers must like what they are doing.
