The cafe was busy on a rainy Monday morning, and I could see why. Excellent tea, made from loose leaves rather than tea bags and an excellent full English breakfast made from quality ingredients soon made me feel better about the world. The cakes looked great too, though trying one will need to wait until my next visit which will be soon

I went to Gilbert’s to catch up with a friend after 2 years due to covid. We booked the afternoon tea & it was perfect from booking to end. When booking gave likes and dislikes and so happy to accommodate. The food was delicious and fresh it was perfect. So many cakes we couldn’t eat - but packed for us to take away for later. Definitely would recommend to everyone.

Booked a table for family breakfast for my Daughters birthday. Food and service was amazing. Daughter is fussy and was told to just order what she wanted and they would adapt it for her. Food was delicious. We even had a room upstairs to ourself. They even presented my Daughter with a birthday treat. My only regret is that I haven't been before. Fantastic food, lovely friendly staff. Will be back. Thankyou

I've visited this place a few times and enjoyed the food and decor but on this visit I was not made welcome. I had been in the cafe for under a minute and not even sat down when I was asked if I was going to eat a meal as I would only be allowed to stay for a maximum of an hour if I wasn't. Given that it was mid-morning and the place was empty of customers I was quite shocked and felt uncomfortable. I was joined by a friend and we ordered some hot drinks and something light to eat. Just before we had been there for an hour we were informed that the table was booked and we would need to leave in a few minutes. There were spare tables and there was no need for us to leave on account of not accommodating customers. I will go elsewhere in future.

Popped to the bank and was looking for a spot of lunch. Few doors down was Gilbert’s Kitchen, was greeted with a smile and offered takeaway or to sit in. I asked for cheese and salad cream, if they had it. Chef came out and said he would look and he had! Nothing too much, came with choice of crisps which were good quality. Coffee was lovely and good size, sandwich was lovely too. All the food looked great and cake was tempting! Would visit again if I’m in the area. Thank you for a nice lunch in nice clean cafe! Had already tucked into sandwich by the time i took photo, can you tell it’s had a few bites! 😂👏

Had an appointment in Littleover and was looking for a brunch spot. Gilbert’s was recommended. Best breakfast I’ve had in ages. Poached egg was perfect, great quality ingredients. Decor is lovely, looks like the outside is a good space (the weather wasn’t great yesterday!). Tables were all spaced well, not sure if that was for Covid or just for privacy but either way, it was welcomed. Lovely place, lovely staff, takeaway cake was also fabulous! We live in Nottingham but it’ll be well worth the drive to return.

On Saturday evening my wife & I enjoyed another take-away from Gilbert's - the 5th (out of 5 !) we've enjoyed since this second lockdown began. Common factor in these take-aways - all been excellent 😊. This week my wife had beef bourginion while I had sausage casserole - both thoroughly enjoyable. Only regret - we didn't order dessert ! Many thanks to Paul, Liz and everyone involved.

Been to this establishment many times with our Grandchildren, so we thought we would take up the 50% discount offer from the government what a disappointment, was told there was no food only drinks. So asked for 2 Baby Chino,s and were told no, so ordered 2 small hot chocolates for the Grandchildren 2 large Cappuccino,s for ourselves and a tea for our daughter. The Hot Chocolates came in Large Mugs and were bigger than our Cappuccinos, asked the waitress for brown sugar but told they had none. When paying the bill which came to £13.85 asked was the 50% reduction included, was told it didn't apply as we had not ordered food. Overall customer service was very poor.

We are visiting the area and looked for a local coffee shop and up popped Gilbert’s Kitchen and Deli. It’s not huge but it look like you can book for lunch as a couple of tables were reserved. There are some tables downstairs and some upstairs so if you have mobility issues make sure to say. There was an upstairs loo but not sure if there is one downstairs if needed. My gluten free lemon drizzle cake was moist, lemony with a nice crunchy top. The coffee and tea were both excellent, and the warm Cajun chicken skewers were well presented on a generous salad , and spicy as described! Great food, good service- recommend them! PS And you can even pick up some local eggs too- bonus!

A friendly greeting on arrival, and good, freshly-prepared food on the menu. It's not cheap, but it's good quality. The salad that I ordered wasn't available, but they offered me a lovely-sounding alternative. Unfortunately with the first mouthful I realised it was full of coriander, which I can't stand! The cook happened to be passing when I pulled a face, and asked if there was a problem. I explained, and she immediately took it away and replaced it with a different salad, which was delicious. I was very impressed that she was proactive enough to notice there was a problem, and kind enough to sort it out without any fuss, especially as we had arrived just before the time at which they stop serving lunch. I'll definitely be back.

Being local we have passed this little restaurant many times and today we decided to drop in for a coffee. We were surprised on entering to find that the majority of tables had been reserved which suggests that it is a popular place at lunch time. However one of the two pleasant ladies told us that we could have any table as long as it was made free for the reserved time. We only wanted a coffee so wouldn't be there long. There is a good selection on the menu ranging from breakfasts to high class afternoon teas. The décor is modern, clean and bright and the service was good. Mickleover deserves so much more than Gilbert's. I have visited 3 times this place and every time, it has been a disappointment. Furthermore, it seems to go from bad to worse. The food is not as exciting as it promises to be, with poor taste combinations, and some dubious quality of ingredients. The speed of service is appalling, and despite some of the staff trying their hardest to be pleasant, there is such rudeness coming from the owners that it beggars belief how this place is still standing. None of my friends have been impressed with Gilbert's. And I certainly won't be coming back. Other places in Mickleover certainly know how to do good food and good customer service. I used to love coming here over the past few years. Sadly seem to be a victim of their own success and the manager Paul and wife are often rude when I pop in. Its really off putting hearing them judge other customers and I think they are now only interesting in being pleasant to people in large groups who will likely spend a lot of money. I won't be going in again and recommend other nearby restaurants like the alphabet café for friendly service. Unfortunately I don't seem t be 'desirable' enough to eat there any more but if you are in a big group eg a baby shower they will welcome you with open arms, hopefully you wont be on the table next to these big parties.

The owner/chef very kindly said he would still make us something...the sandwhiches we had were delicious.Even though it doesn't sound like much, it really was nice to receive such good customer service, which seems to be lost on so many places.Great to have a family-run business doing so well by giving great customer service.

Gilberts is the best thing to happen in Mickleover for years. Cafe and deli, really original and imaginative breakfast and lunch menu,or a great place to relax with a coffee in the attractive modern interior, or outside in the garden. Very high quality food, the great majority home made. You get a very warm welcome from Liz, Paul and all their staff. Great cheeses, cold meats, pies, olives etc at the deli counter. Excellent place for a family gathering - we had a special birthday party here last year, and everyone's still talking about it. Highly recommended!

We gave our car in for MOT at Phil Bowlers and went looking for a coffee shop. We stumbled on this place and we were so happy that we did. The place was busy but we left our number so they could ring us when a table became available at lunchtime - they rang back after 5 minutes. We ordered a sandwich and a grilled goats cheese salad (gluten free) and a slice of gluten free walnut cake. The food was fabulous and the coffee was great. We will definitely be visiting again.

A friend and I went for lunch, we have been lunching weekly at different spots and thought we would try this place and were both disappointed. Technically there is nothing wrong with the Doorstep sandwich it is exactly what it says "Doorstep", however less would have improved the very bready concoction ot more filling was required. We sat upstairs which we both found okay but lacked atmosphere, downstairs is warmer and nicer in our opinion. I would say it is expensive for what it is a sandwich costing anything from £6.50 - £8.00, yes is comes with a bit of salad and a small handful of crisps but not anything exceptional, a piece of cake will set you back £3.20 + whilst they looked lovely and they have to make a living you are looking at around £12.00 for a coffee and cake for 2 a little on the expensive side from other lunch spots we have been too. It's a shame and I'm sure other items are much better value, its not an unpleasant place, just not our cuppa tea!

Went here with a friend and her child the other week due to the great reviews. So pleased we did, the staff were friendly, the service quick and the food was delicious. The café has a lovely warming atmosphere, it is clean and modern and the range of food is great. They were very sweet to my friend's young son also and were patient letting him do the ordering!

Our regular venue for coffee and cakes and it never fails to impress. Allways a fantastic home made selection but my personel favourite is a fruit scone accompanied with a latte coffee which with some years experience I can say are top draw. The lunch time blackboard changes daily and there is also a monthly evening special which is a wonderfull experience should you be lucky enough to get a table. Many thanks to Liz, Paul and the staff. Can't wait till my next visit.Alan and Jacqueline

We love popping in to Gilbert's for breakfast or lunch. Paul is a seriously good chef who produces a daily menu of specials, with Liz running front-of-house and they're a lovely couple who make all customers feel welcome. The food is great for adults and kids. You can have fresh and tasty sandwiches, while there are always lots of lovely cakes and breads for sale. The breakfasts are pretty good - make sure you are hungry! The food is more than affordable and there is seating upstairs as well as down. There is also a nice outdoor seating area when the weather is nice.

Lovely place to chill and relax with friends.Once a month they do a themed night with a set menu at £25.00 a head and this evening it was Italian. There were 4 courses and each course had 3 dishes that came to the table for you to choose from. Their was plenty of food and it was enjoyable. You have to take you're own alcohol and they charge a £1.00. corking fee.

I love this place, I often go with family and friends. The friendly welcoming owners are lovely, and nothing is too much trouble. The food is delicious, daily specials are great. Their themed evenings are amazing and really good value, but you need to book well in advance! Thanks Gilbert's, love the Martinez family.

Been a few times for lunches but also tried the breakfast. Very good quality and a sensible price. It can get busy but there are tables downstairs and upstairs. Not sat outside yet but that is a nice addition. The deli/cake shop is also very tempting so leave some space if you can!

We were staying close by and dropped onto TripAdvisor for ideas of where we could grab a breakfast, ahead of a busy day. The Buttery was perfect. Parked right outside and table available right inside. Service was prompt and the place was clean. It’s very obvious the owners are hardworking and keen to please. The breakfast itself was amazing. Hot, tasty and plentiful, providing excellent value for money. In a time when customer service and value is almost non-existent in the UK, this place is a rare Diamond! Thank you.

Excellent service. Great value. Food looked and tasted amazing. Great outdoor space at rear and a large car park. Lots of TVs throughout the pub for sport and music. Pool table. Great location in city centre but not right in the centre of it all so perfect. Close to train station, shopping centre and a short walk to the bus station and taxi rank.

Brilliant pub great and very welcoming especially to disabled I have just started to get the confidence to get back out as moved back In 2018 due to domestic violence and I personally think that the pub every staff member was more than helpful and the customer welcomed us and I have multiple anxiety issues and bipolar copd and fibermalga its a massive problem to get out as I aways hide and I always get serious anxiety and its the first time in possibly 10 years nothing made me feel like I was not part of the community even though I have only attended the place 3 times since 2018 to now thanks best customer service ever and as my 15 year old says I am a Karen lol see you weds to get all my spare bits for you to get rid off I really felt welcomed Im going early this week need a table lol
