Have had the set Sunday lunch on several occasions. Quality of the meal has been fairly consistent. Today however, the experience was overshadowed by some very nasty custard! It sounds very picky, when the rest of the meal was fine, but watery, lumpy, tasteless powdered custard with the crumble, took the edge right off...

Tasty lunch. Only feedback I'd give is that plate arrived dished instead of separate vegetables to help myself. I found it overwhelming and off-putting as I definitely wouldn't have a plate that full. Another time, I would make sure we were seated in either bar or smaller restaurant rather than conservatory as echoing and loud. Service was very good and received a very warm greeting. Good value for money. Will definitely return

Just had one of the best Sunday lunches here. A very busy place which was recommended to me so we did book. Car park full but we found a space by a tree. We arrived 10 minutes early but our table was ready. Very quick service. Our food and drinks arrived together shortly after we had ordered. There was a choice of 3 meats and you could have any combination of these. The plate is piled with such a good selection - roast potatoes, mash, carrots, parsnips, peas, yorkshire pud, stuffing ball, leeks, brocolli…. Really nice gravy and a selection of sauces. We were so full we had to turn down pudding! I absolutely recommend this place. I wish we lived nearer as I would be a regular!

First I must state that I found the reviews very contrasting. We were on holiday and visited 3 times and had 3 great evening meals. After reading 2 star to 5 star we expected at least one controversial meal but had great food all 3 nights and had different meals each time. We booked in the restaurant side each time. So whether the bar side has different meals or different chefs I do not know. We were well pleased with the service as well as the food. The ambience of the restaurant is really great and the inglenook a piece of art. The interesting part was getting there and having to drive through a ford to get to it. Different settings to our customary Birmingham pubs. We can only speak as we found and to us it was a fabulous place to eat and enjoy Keith Birmingham

The Royal Oak is a lovely place and we have been many times and enjoyed the food. This time, not so good. My hubby had fish and chips which were fine, but I had lasagna. I found it to be very dry, not a lot of meat and couldn't distinguish between pasta and cheese. Very disappointing. It was served with chips which were extremely dry, warmed up maybe. Only redeeming factor was the side salad.

Poor quality food, terrible burnt, old, and cold chips.. the Scampi was frozen, very bland and watery. All the condiments were in packets and left out in the sunshine... Tartare sauce was hot... Cheap cutlery... just a sub standard experience all round. This place used to be excellent, judging by other people's reviews.. we are not alone in noticing the drop in standards and quality... its a shame as its still a lovely location.

I'd love to give this establishment 5 stars, but the starters were a let down, especially for the price paid (almost £20 for both) wether they had been overcooked from the off, or sat under the lights for too long, I'm not sure. 1 x beef brisket balls with a unnecessary abundance of lettuce and scallops, which were mixed sizes and didn't look like photos on there social media. We had fish and chips for main, which were absolutely gorgeous and definitely increased our opinion after the poor starters. Didn't have pudding so can't comment on that. Spent £76 on a bottle of wine, one and a half pints of bitter, 2 starters and 2 mains. Make of that what you will. Staff very friendly and great location and atmosphere. Pictures below, top picture was social media advert, picture underneath was reality.

Went for a meal with my wife, very nice place to dine, my meal was lovely no complaints, however my wife ordered a steak which was full of gristle, she tried but could not eat it, when asked by the waitress if everything was alright my wife said no the steak is inedible, to which the waitress replied sorry about that, and walked away. Upon paying the bill I was asked again if everything had been O K I said my meal was very nice but my wife's steak was really poor, to this there was no reply at all, and just took my money. I understand that a steak can vary in quality, but the issue here is, what a restaurant does to address a problem when it is reported, in this case nothing was done. This was my wife's birthday meal so I was quite disappointed, it put quite a damper on things.

Love this pub as we having been customers for over 40 years, but went today for lunch and really disappointed with our favourite of steak and ale pie. It came with only a tiny spoonful of peas, where has all the vegetable gone, also the portion of onion rings was only half the amount you normally get. Pie did not appear fresh. As prices have increased so much we were extremely disappointed.

Nice pub in a lovely location. Booked in the restaurant for a Sunday lunch for 4 people. Inside is lovely, cosy and nicely decorated for the festive season. Friendly staff. The food was nice. It's not a help yourself carvey. They bring the golf to you. Decent plateful. Good selection of meats. Two things to fault with the food, I expect the Yorkshire puddings to be home made rustic type ones but they appeared to be mass produced uniform shaped ones that I get from the freezer in supermarkets. Secondly the custard with the puddings was tasteless, again didn't appear to be home made. It had the taste and appearance of the shop brought packet custard that you add water too. It was a bit watery as well. It was very yellow too, unlike made from scratch. Overall it was alright but expect food to be better than I can create at home when paying for it. Feel like come corners have been cut since my last visit.

We have visited The Splash for quite a few years and have previously been very happy overall with the food and service we have received. After not having been for a couple of years two of us decided we would visit again for Sunday Lunch. The menu on a Sunday is a range of 4 starters, these being homemade pate, smoked salmon and prawns, some sort of creamy mushroom thing and something else I can’t remember. Main course is either carvery or some veggie options, one of which being quorn sausages. Not that veggie options are a necessity for me as I have tastebuds and a desire for actual food. As I have a large appetite and correlating waist line I decided to go for the 3 courses. I also advised my fellow diner to do the same with reassurance that if they could not eat it all I would finish anything they could not. We opted for the pate and the salmon and prawns. The pate was good, served in a shallow ramekin with two pieces of brown toast, pea shoots (which I despise) and a quenelle of onion chutney. Although not very smooth the pate had a nice taste but I could have done with maybe another 2 pieces of toast. Upon looking at some other pates that were being served I did notice that they were coming out with 4 pieces not 2. Maybe the chef did not want to over face me? Maybe not. The salmon and prawns were good, served in a mound with an ample amount of both. Topped with a horseradish cream and another blob of the aforementioned pea shoots that seem to be served everywhere these days. The dish was dressed with a lime dressing that gave a nice balance overall. Could have benefited from a slice of bread and butter and a slice of lemon, alas no. The starters were the best part of the meal. Onto the next course; carvery for both diners. Hmmm. The Splash have adopted a new novel way to serve the carvery. That being that it is brought to you after ordering which meat and vegetables you do or don’t want. I suppose in the days following covid this is a way of reducing contact and queuing. I’m not a fan as I like to select which items I like and the quantity of them. I always select the smallest crisper potatoes but this privilege unfortunately has been denied. However, having no other choice we gave it a go. Our plates came; each with Yorkshire pudding, stuffing inside and a selection of the ordered vegetables sur assiette. This is where our disappointment began. The plates were luke warm at best which meant that in order to eat your meal in the traditional sense, that being whilst still hot, you had to consume it within 3 or 4 minutes. Yorkshire pudding was tasteless, carrots were hard and undercooked (I know what al dente is), the broccoli could have been on the boil since Thursday, leeks in cheese sauce were overly oniony and underly cheesy and both the parsnips and “roast” potatoes were also underdone. I have said “roast” potatoes as I do not believe that they actually roasted, more likely to have been deep fried. This was accompanied by a slice of turkey and the same of pork, which in all honesty wasn’t bad and had good flavour and texture. Gravy is added over the top before it is brought to you. Which is not an ideal choice in my opinion as I will discuss below. As we were sat near the carvery serving area I identified a problem. The veg is kept in water to keep warm and as the woman was dishing up I noticed that she wasn’t draining the water completely before dumping them onto the already chilling plates. This water, cold crockery and the addition of gravy leaves the diner with a pool of watery gunk underneath their meal which doesn’t make for a great experience overall. On the whole the carvery lunch was under average and not what we had expected as we have previously had some lovely carveries there over the years. The changes they have made have reduced our enjoyment significantly. We both opted for desserts. I for the homemade lemon and raspberry cheesecake with ice cream and my guest the lemon roulade. The cheesecake was underwhelming and although the cheesecake itself tasted ok it was laced with a cheap synthetic raspberry sauce which made it all taste poor and forced. I just don’t understand why you would go to the effort of making a cheesecake to then adulterate it with a Wall’s ice cream topper rather than a simple raspberry coulis which would be 100 times better. The roulade was the better option; good flavour and texture with a sharp lemon curd and crisp meringue. Not bad. Overall I’d rate the experience as average. It’s not what we have enjoyed previously and I wouldn’t rush back nor recommend to friends. Just a bit disappointing really. At 25 quid a head I’d just expect a bit more bang for my buck. Well, hot plates and food at least. It was edible, but that’s about it.

Wow! We had our first visit here today and after the novelty of driving through a ford, finding loads of parking places, and being warmly welcomed despite not booking a table, we were shown to a lovely table in the attractive conservatory. I had the asparagus & feta cheese tart - absolutely delicious as the pastry was so thin and crispy (not burnt!) and an extremely cheesy filling, new potatoes and heaps of salad. My husband enjoyed his splash burger and my daughter said she would have the chickpea burger again. The desserts did not disappoint either - I certainly recommend the lemon meringue roulade! The menu has something for everyone including vegan and gluten free diners, the portion sizes on the main dishes are large, and the serving team are all very polite and worked well as a team. We will certainly recommend to others and return when in the area again.

The best thing about The Splash is the novelty of diving through a ford and the beautiful location. As for the food ,the most important part of a restaurant in my humble opinion, was awful. My starter was mushrooms in creamy garlic sauce. The delicacy was obviously heated up in microwave, inside cold outside hot. Unperturbed I headed on to main. Oh dear. A lpasta plate arrived with a mound of sundry leaves and other random chopped vegetables covering a greyish looking bit of smocked salmon, slimy king prawns accompanied by generous dollop of coleslaw. Why did I or my companion not complain.? That is the real tragedy. Two ladies of a certain age who are only seeking a couple of hours gossip over a a glass of wine and Lunch We don’t like making a fuss but will never recommend or go back to the splash.

A lovely looking country pub. Once inside the floor staff seemed totally disinterested and not a greeting or smile in sight. The restaurant sadly lacked any atmosphere. A fairly large menu boasting typical pub grub. The food alas was decidedly average. Reasonable portions but bland and tasteless. Not once were we asked is everything was to our satisfaction. Having asked for the bill it was duly presented to us, but after 10+ minutes no member of staff appeared. We approached the service station to pay and got a scowl from the waitresses who were deep in conversation .......... After hearing good things, we tried lunch today. Met in reception by young staff that failed to smile or connect with us, they all looked unhappy in their role. As we like some connection with our server, it felt like they were not encouraged to...
