This pub is in a gorgeous location and could be excellent. Unfortunately it has a very clique-y local crowd who are not welcoming at all. The landlady is friendly, but the atmosphere is extremely depressive. I usually love local type pubs, but this is awful. I live locally and don't even want to frequent it as the 2 times I've been I've been looked at with a scowl by the groups sat outside. Shame it's not more friendly or we'd be in every week. There are no real ales either and limited decent lagers. It's a cider pub,so may be good if that's your thing.

Very friendly traditional pub. It was like travelling back to the public houses of my childhood. Full of character with very friendly staff. The landlady was very accommodating offering to stray from the menu as the choice was limited due to the pandemic situation and they had only just reopened. The building was undergoing renovation but this did not spoil our experience. We were able to overnight with our campervan for the price of a meal.

Have treated myself to two takeaway cream teas that Tracy has done over the last couple of weeks - lovely scones and plenty of clotted cream and jam. Can really recommend them! Will be back this weekend for another. Wendy

We found this one via britstop. Nice level car park so motorhome did not need levelling in the bottom section of car park. Good service, good food and a good selection of cider. Will visit again.

Good size car park with plenty of room. Very friendly staff and has a very “local” feel to it. The bar food was ok and priced well enough. Worth a re visit if in the area.

if your looking ofr one of these up market places with food given fancy names then this place isn't for you. We stumbled across in and dived in for food as we were starving. The place isn't pretentious . what you see is what you get. I opted for the gammon steak which was delicious and menu is good old fashioned home cooked pub food how they all used to be a few years back. A lovely warm welcome from the landlady and well worth popping in for a bite if your hungry.

My daughter and I attend the regular quiz and get there early to eat.The choice is good, usually there are special offers and the food is home made. I am on a diet but they adapt the meals to suit me. The price also suits me! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. I am also disabled and they ensure that they can accommodate me.

firstly I was very surprised that the ROYAL OAK was not even registered on trip advisor.i had got my voucher for £10 which allowed a 2 course meal for 2 people.arrived at 12 20 to be greeted by 2 cheerful ladies, one showed us which table was ours so after buying 2 drinks we only had to wait a short time for our meals;i had pork my friend had beef, both meals were lovely;we then had 2 nice puddings during which a batch of other groupon punters arrived; our two ladies coped with it well.my only slight negative for me personally was that my meal was covered in gravy which I normally like to make the choice of it.i have sent the pub a note about this and they sent a nice reply saying they would make a note of my comments.please go to the pub it is only a few miles outside EXETER on the WHITESTONE road, even its only for a drink.

Rigtig god madoplevelse.
