I called in for an ice-cream. Their sign said it was Devon ice-cream and one of the flavours was rum and raisin, my favourite, so I chose that. He disappeared out the back and returned with a small cone for £2.20. There were no raisins visible, so I assumed they were hidden. By the time I had eaten about half (it didn't take long!) I still hadn't encountered a single raisin. I showed my friend and asked her opinion. She agreed I should show him, and ask for my raisins. To say he was dismissive would be putting it politely. He shooed me away, as if I was an annoying fly. It wasn't anything to do with him if his advertised ice cream is not as described. I finished it - of course, not a single raisin. So I am writing this as a warning. Do not buy ice-cream here. He accepts no responsibility for it.

Glacial slowness. 20 minutes for 3 people to be served. Staff drifted about with neither purpose or pace, including repeatedly returning to the kitchen for their notepad to jot down the simplest of orders. Currently waiting for my ice cream to be delivered, plenty to time to write a review and complete my online shopping. Painful.

Today Boxing Day , went for a hot chocolate, which was only Luke warm and quite pricy , however my issue was with the worker at the front of house , middle aged man so should know better ! My husband took his receipt from the machine , in which the previous customer had done also , this worker totally lost it with him , shouting we shouldn’t touch the machine as it’s his way of knowing if we’d paid he could charge us again ! He is too busy to deal with this sort of thing !!! Couldn’t we see the customers waiting really over the top behaviour for an innocent mistake , in these difficult times when you want to support local businesses you would think people would be happy to have custom !!! I will never use this cafe again , and thankfully there are other lovely independent cafes on the quay that welcome customers and serve hot drinks ! Shame on you !

What a rude man. (identified by his little pony tail) Apparently after swiping my card for payment, I took his receipt in error, completely innocent action. The man not only pointed out my error but then proceeded to be very rude and tried to make out that I had done it on purpose. He continued his rant in front of other customers. Very unprofessional! I will never ever use this place again and I will pass on my thoughts to my friends. This at a time when we are encouraged to help local business. Retraining required. And the hot chocolate was only warm!

Fantastic weather to spend a few hours at Exeter Quay. Based on reviews chose to have coffee and breakfast at The Coffee Cellar. We sat outside (inside was closed), welcoming and friendly staff member took our order - flat whites, sausage brioche, and apricot flapjack. Coffee was pretty good, the brioche was a real disappointment - sausage wasn't very good quality and appeared to be cheap catering sausage which was really disappointing. Thankfully flapjack was yummy. Good location, coffee and service was good, so if you avoid the sausage you'll have a good experience.

So I am local and have visited this establishment a few times in the past. Only a few times because every time I visit I can’t understand why the staff just look through you and are not remotely interested in serving or helping you. It is a shame because the location and products they sell are really nice. Times are tough for small businesses but I will not be visiting this one again. I am not prone to leaving reviews as I feel that they can be so subjective but after a 100% record of rudeness in this establishment I felt I should.

The Quay is a great location and sitting in the sun drinking coffee watching life go by is nice but this place is way overrated. Coffee average, service mediocre. Cake was delicious, interiors are quirky and some of the staff were nice but the two guys at the bar really let the place down. Pick up your game boys (i.e. don't cut me off whilst I'm giving the order and then fail to get it after the third reiteration, and wipe out your portafilter basket with a dry dishtowel before each dose of coffee so as to avoid bitterness in the extraction.) I leave the advice for the owner because she was nice and can perhaps give her baristas some guidance.

I had read that as a woman gets older, she becomes invisible. I experienced this for the first time at the Coffee Cellar when a female friend and I (both retired) went in there. The three young men behind the counter (I imagine that one of them should have been making food while the other two served customers) didn't even acknowledge us, say "hello" or "be with you in a minute" because they were so busy flirting with the two girls making their order. We stood waiting for what felt like a long time while jokes about getting phone numbers were made and when I said "I know we may not be young or attractive, but is there any chance we could have a pot of tea?" one of the servers said, "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." I'm not sure whether this was rude or complimentary but there's a good old Devon word which is "ignorant" and I'll go for that one. Watching him put some tea together and get it onto a tray was like watching a fish on a bicycle and I still had to remind him that a jug of milk wouldn't go amiss.

It was fairly busy when we arrived. I stood waiting to order for probably 10 minutes. It would have been good to have been greeted when we arrived and told there would be a delay. Instead the staff just carried on with what they were doing and ignored my presence.

Visiting the quay area of Exeter today,I found myself in The Coffee Cellar, one of the imaginatively refurbished units under the arches.

The place looked cute from the outside which drew us in, but the service was not something to be desired.

we called in to the coffee Cellar on Friday 4th Nov 16. it was a real treat!, the atmosphere was great, the sofas comfy and the cream tea was superb. some of the best scones i've ever had. we would go back tomorrow if we didn't live nearly 100 miles away.

Going out for one of the first times alone with your newborn can be a daunting task, so when I stopped at the coffee cellar for a much needed coffee I was made to feel so welcome. The lovely lady barista showed me the cosy area at the back which was discreet and ensured me I was welcome to breast feed there. She gave me a large glass of water (breast feeding is thirsty work) and drinks were brought to me so I could attend to the baby. The coffee is delicious, and previously been there before and had their famous carrot cake which is well worth a visit for! Lovely setting and friendly staff. Thank you for making my first trip out with baby a successful one.

I ordered two drinks - mine was a White Americano, with hot milk, whilst my other half ordered her usual Decaf Soya Latte. We were both very happy with our drinks.

Whilst I enjoyed the friendly service today at this cafe, despite it being very busy, I was concerned by what I witnessed during my visit. I had left a tip to show my appreciation to the staff and as I was leaving I saw it being placed into a pot. When I went to enquirer about whether this was going to the staff, I was told by a regular customer next to me that apparently it was well know that this cafe often put these tips in the till. This really worried me and I hope the hard working staff are being rewarded.

Now this is a wonderful spot and a quirky cafe... but, and I know it was the bank holiday weekend, the service was painfully slow.

Lovely day so thought I'd sit outside. Went in looking for a menu, couldn't see one anywhere and although I was standing right next to the counter looking lost the staff ignored me at first. I eventually managed to ask, took it outside and made my choice so went in to order. The man behind the counter looked quite harassed and said 'just give me 2 minutes madam'. I almost walked out but stayed because the smoothies looked good. Eventually took my order. My smoothie arrived first, a Mary Berry. Nice but a slight bitter aftertaste, not at all like Mary Berry who's very sweet. Next my panini. Okay, but the 'home made' coleslaw didn't look or taste home made and the 'salad' was a few pieces of dry lettuce with a couple of bits of red pepper and a quarter of a piece of cucumber.

Very nice pub with an enjoyable dining area and a separate bar area in back with televisions and games. Food is reasonably priced. The cod dinner is huge enough for two. Pints are generously sized.
