Great place to visit. Wonderful food and staff is lovely

We stayed on the campsite behind the Royal oak. The atmosphere in the pub was very good and we were surprised to see it so busy during a weekday evening. We did not eat here but the food looked fantastic with lots of options. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be returning before too long.

Fabulous country pub in a beautiful setting. Just off the A46 between Newark and Nottingham but it feels like being in the New Forest as the pub is set on a large village green, often with grazing cattle. Really first rate service by a lovely family team who make everyone very welcome. There is a restaurant area and a more casual bar area, both serving beautiful, home-cooked food. Both restaurant and bar have open fires, and dogs are welcome in the bar. There is always a happy, friendly atmosphere. Extensive menu with a great variety of meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan foods. I nearly always have the smoked salmon and prawn salad which is utterly delicious and very generously portioned. The fish and chips are also excellent (and I'm very fussy about crispy batter!) Booking is strongly advisable, as this pub deservedly has a very loyal clientele. Lovely on a summer's evening for drinks at the tables set out on the green. A favourite spot for families with dogs, and vintage car enthusiasts, to gather.

Fantastic warm welcome. Always feel like part of the family when entering. I ordered the steak, it arrived promptly, full of flavour, The chef clearly uses the finest ingredients, the stilton sauce I asked for upon ordering was to die for. The choice of ales on offer is extensive and clearly the Royal Oak is a firm favourite for many as both the bar and restaurant were full with a lot of smiles and laughter. However I would definitely recommend booking.

Can be very busy in evenings . Best to book to avoid disappointment. Camping site has electric pitches and is level. Can be a bit muddy around the exit . No toilet block . Need to book in by phone .

Wonderful friendly British country pub, serving great beer and sensational food. Staff and clientele help put the icing on the cake, creating a warm atmosphere. Set in a picturesque village setting, what's not to love. 100% recommend trying The Royal Oak

We arrived unexpectedly with a table for 5 after our original plans fell through. We were given a warm welcome and seated in the bar area. Our waitress was superb, very friendly and helpful. Food was superb and we were pleased to see a range of vegetarian options.

The service, food and atmoshere in this village pub could not get any better. Steak was cooked to Perfection!!!!!

A beautiful pub situated in a beautiful area. We attended with my elderly parents, who are weekly regulars. They've been going for a while now and are really well looked after by the staff there. It was the first time that I had been for several years and to say that the atmosphere was welcoming is an understatement. It felt like we were all treated like visiting family. The decor is very calming, clean and comfortable. It's clear that this pub is run by people who have genuine pride in what they do, and it really does show. All of the staff that we encountered, including the owners, were lovely and couldn't have done any more to make our visit there any better than it was. The food itself was, to coin a phrase, good honest food. All cooked to perfection. Make sure that you leave room for pudding! They're well worth it! In addition to what's already been mentioned, the bar is well stocked with a variety of spirits and a fine selection of ales, including from some of the smaller breweries. All in all, this is one place to visit even though it may be off of the beaten track for some.

Outstanding service .We were fortunate to be able to book a table , at this country pub on Tuesday . My wife is quite disabled and has mobility issues. I cannot remember a pub or restaurant where we received such a warm welcome and help from the staff especially the Landlord ,Richard . We eat out quite often and the service here is remarkable. The menu provides good pub food at a reasonable price . A 20 ounce glass of Woodfordes Wherry was perfect . So often now I find a pint is about 17 ounces ,not here .The pub was full on Tuesday ,say no more . Thank you IJM

Great lunch and pint and a fantastic view to boot! Sandwiches are spectacular - cooked food is excellent too! Since lockdowns have eased they are really busy - everyday, so book to avoid disappointment!

Really sorry to say the vegetarian meal I had was very poor. The burger was dry and bland, with no sauce, salad or anything. It was literally just the dry burger and bread. I was shocked they would serve that and it was really strange they then brought out some plain vegetables, that just didn’t go. Really odd that they think this is an acceptable standard.

Wonderful rural location. Spent a couple of nights here in our motorhome. Fabulous food at lunchtime and in the evening, comfortable, cosy atmosphere and the staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely visit again.

Only had sandwiches but they were delicious and very generous with the fillings. Will definitely be returning to try the bigger menu.....fish and chips looked fantastic! Highly recommended.

Superb! Beautiful location, very spacious garden, excellent ales and the most perfect food. You cannot get more typically British than this. It was perfect and 100% recommended. Talk about millionaires row in the car park! Very very reasonable prices and I was made to feel like humble old me was every bit as special as the Bentley and Mustang drivers.

Absolute little gem of a local traditional pub. Great tasty pub food. Very friendly staff. Was warned we were very lucky to get a table and booking was advised.

We came upon this by chance. We fancied a quick drink and, after seeing the menu, we decided to eat. I chose something that I would never have dreamed of but my partner chose it, so I had the same. It was a chicken with Stilton cheese sauce & vegetables. Absolutely delicious. Considering it was a Tuesday evening, the restaurant was fully booked so we ended up eating in the bar. A wonderful atmosphere. It wasn't cheap but it certainly keeps the lager louts away. Would I go back?. Yes, definitely, and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

There is much to enjoy: superb venue, reasonable prices, and delicious food, but vegetarian choice a little limited in scope. Nevertheless, this is an easy venue to recommend.

We dined early on a Tuesday evening before the place was full. We enjoyed a pleasant evening with friends; staff were friendly and efficient, service was very good and the food, a delight.

A good warm welcome. Excellent food and service however would have liked more custard on the ginger sponge pudding.

Two of our roast beef’s were fatty with a white sinu through the middle, even the meat area was hard to cut with a normal knife. I’ve had Aberdeen Angus cattle so know what good meat should be like. One pudding was provided incorrectly to what was ordered and suddenly got replaced. We have had good meals with you but were disappointed yesterday.

This is a wonderful pub in a pretty village. Buzzing but not noisy. Lovely staff. Good menu. We went for Sunday lunch and it was good.

Wow, what a Sunday Lunch !! Enjoyed every bit of of it. There was four clear plates and four full belly's. The staff were all so lovely. Richard was very obliging and sat with us patiently waiting for the men to make sure footy wasn't on All booked in for the next 3 months for our monthly treat. So busy, yet service was superb. Lovely pub for a good meal with friends. The food is definitely gastro pub standard and there is a nice selection of beers and wines. It was moderately noisy when we started but quietened towards late afternoon. It ends up being quite dear but I wouldn't say it was poor value.

I visit this Restaurant every time I come to Nottingham. Everything about this Restaurant is of a very high standard and the service is superb. I would highly recommend a visit. The landlord Richard is very caring to make each visit warm and satisfying.

Always a real treat to go to the Royal Oak, the food was great and the service excellent. We took our friends for the first time and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

The food was excellent this time. Steamed Sea Bream Asian style notably good. Went Valentines Day, but like the table next to us only given the Valentines menu at time of the desert. Strange. As usual for the staff the girls were doing the work. One young blonde girl doing most of the serving. The men couldn't be bothered to take a full order and gave the impression that they were above the menial tasks. But overall it was good. Thank you.

I took two clients who'd travelled from the North West for a meeting, they were delighted with my choice of venue. They loved the food and service we received . They also stayed the night and were very impressed their rooms. I would highly recommend Tony G

Absolutely amazing food, atmosphere and the staff are the stars here!!! The older, smaller country pubs are definitely the best.

Place is nice, food is good (although they need to vary the menu from time to time) but dessert was disappointing. Service lets them down as staff appear to lose interest as the meal progresses and some of the staff come across as sullen and not wanting to be there.

The food we had was very good . One of the party had the shepherds pie, not a good choice if you were hungry as a smallish portion, and I felt quite overpriced. The chicken was very good as was the pizza. It’s a shame that the pub doesn’t do a specials board. We didn’t have deserts as the choice was not to our taste. The menu on the whole was small, it doesn’t seem to change much. Nice venue to go too and in the warmer weather they have a nice outside space. Good to go to occasionally.

Lots of variety on the menu very quick service. Food portions a bit over priced. Staff's uniform was on the scruffy side but they were all very pleasant.

Great Sunday lunch experience. Having not been to the Royal Oak for a few years, having moved further away, it was a pleasant return and a very enjoyable meal. The pea and ham soup was very enjoyable as were the mushroom starters. The roast dinners were excellent. The flat iron steak was very tasty. Crumble tart and cheese board very enjoyable too. Thank you for looking after us.

We had a great Sunday lunch for my daughter's birthday. The food was fantastic and she was really touched by the care and attention of the staff on her special occasion.

The roast pork was horrid it was very fatty and the roast potatoes where barely roasted at all, they were very hard in the middle like they had not been boiled long enough, certainly not worth the money we paid for Sunday lunch. We have eaten here many times before and the food is usually great, but we won’t ever be returning for the Sunday lunch as it was by far the worst meal we have ever had at the Royal Oak. It was a real let down as we were celebrating my mums 85th birthday, she barely touched her pork. My partner & I had the beef which was also rather fatty, but the biggest dissatisfaction was the anaemic looking hard roast potatoes. The bill was about £150 which we normally wouldn’t worry about but after having my mums 85th birthday lunch scuppered with subpar food, it’s put us off going back again.

The Royal Oak is a warm and welcoming place to visit for dinner. Service was very good, food very tasty. The gravy for the shepherds pie was particularly good. Only slight negative being the bread and nibbles sharer, this was a bit underwhelming. Would recommend to others for a visit.

Two of us enjoyed our meal but the chicken parmigiana was very dry. This was mentioned to waiter.

Disappointing to arrive at 1630 for Sunday Roast which is provded from 1200-2000 to find they had run out of both beef and lamb. So we decided not to eat there.

We were 11 family members and all had lots to say so it was good that we were put in a slightly separate table but could still feel part of the dining experience. The staff were very attentive and obviously well trained. The food lived up to our expectations and just the right portion sizes

Thanks for another lovely meal. Happened to be sitting by the door into the garden which was a bit draughty so maybe think about a curtain or something there to keep your diners warm? But service, food, range of options, options of non-alcoholic drinks for the drivers, all excellent as always, we will be back.

The pub is one of my favourite pubs in Berkshire- stunning building, atmosphere and great service. We went for Sunday lunch yesterday. I always book a table in the orangery. The beef was stringy and not very hot. The Yorkshire puddings were delicious and the sticky toffee pudding wasn't very sticky or hot and the ball of ice cream tiny. It cost £12. Not at all value for money. £55 for a roast, a pudding and a large glass of Malbec. Judge for yourselves.

As ever, really great service and delicious food. While we are lucky enough to have The Royal Oak as our local, this was the first time we had brought a large party of (fairly picky) family members for a celebration birthday lunch. It worked brilliantly - excellent table, very prompt and super friendly service, delicious food - couldn't have asked for more. See you again soon!

I had not been to the Royal Oak for about 20 years in which time it has had a lovely back room built with large windows/doors onto the garden. The food was all delicious, the service was excellent, the ambience was friendly. A good menu with plenty to choose from to suit all. Good value too. Thank you. This time I will not leave it so long to return!
