Unfortunately I can't comment on the food because we didn't have any I booked a table 2 weeks before for 10 people asked for table number 5 and 6 left my name and number when we arrived the pub was like a building site and they were under going a refurbishment and had no knowledge of the booking very unprofessional and made me feel like I must of dreamed I'd made the booking fortunately the Three horseshoes came to our rescue and we had a lovely night maybe they did us a favour but won't be going back to see .

This place is a dump. Avoid. Dirty establishment, boarded up windows and creepy men behind the bar. I understand that this was actually the land lord, he made he feel very uncomfortable as a young woman. I left and went to the Broughton down the road

Went to have something to eat. Got there just after 6pm. Bar man walked towards us so we asked for a menu. He gave us one.... a special one for Sundays. My husband then asked if we could order from the normal menu. The bar man said he didn't know and would ask. We then waited 15 mins before walking out as no one came back to us. AWFUL SERVICE. Not going again which is a shame as we only live round the corner and have been before and had no problems.

Burgers and Fish dishes were all well received, adequate portions and polished off by grandchildren, however my wife and I both ordered lamb steaks which were massively over cooked and consequently very dry, would expect a chef to know how to cook lamb dishes. After a long walk we called in for a drink so the kids could have a play in the beer garden. They said they were hungry so ordered them a meal each. Then after seeing Sunday lunch coming out of the kitchen we went back and ordered one each. We weren’t disappointed. First the kids meals are big enough for an adult lunch! Gammon and egg and freshly made fish fingers with real hand cut chips went down a storm. And our beef dinners were great value for only £8.50. We’ll certainly be back.

We have visited twice now since the new owners have taken over the running of the Royal Oak. The first time for Sunday lunch, where the food was wonderful but service was a little slow. We went again last Thursday where there is a buy one get the cheapest free off the main or specials menu. I had lamb steak with vegetables which was cooked to perfection and my husband had the gammon which he also enjoyed. It is good too see that the customers are coming back as the pub had sadly gone down hill over the past couple of years. We look forward to seeing the results of the renovations which are happening over the next couple of weeks, the pub is well overdue a face-lift. We feel as if our pub is coming back to the pub we loved years ago. We'll done to the new owners.

We have been to the Royal Oak for lunch today ,and to say it was a dissapointment was an understatement,it was dull inside ,the fire wasn’t lit there were no specials on the board,it was just dead,we asked for menus and made our choices, there was no pie,my friend ordered plaice chips and peas believe or not they came back and said they had no peas ,I had ordered vegetable spring rolls they came and said they hadn’t got any, what sort of a pub is this,we sat at a table near a window that had a great hole in it ,the place was cold and soulless,it desperately needs some TLC if it’s going to be a success,it has allways been a lovely little village pub but I won’t be going back in a hurry. An absolute shambles must do better

We went with two friends on a Saturday evening. We had booked but this appeared unnecessary as it was very quiet. It was a disappointing start as the Stella was off. The waitress came and took our orders and the wait was fairly long as there were not many diners. Three of the group had steaks and I had a fish dish that was on the specials board. The steaks were OK but the fish was pretty tasteless and a poor choice as it turned out. The prices were not bad but the place lacked any atmosphere primarily as it was so empty. Not sure if I would bother to go back.

On arriving they were unable to see the booking it turns out that it had been put in the diary put not on the list that is pinned up when they show you to the table. We were offered a table in the bar where a man and his wife sat with a large dog on a lead tied to the table drinking water, we were no even going to that table as the dog had enough lead to get between the table I love pets very much but I think there is a place for then and not in the bar close to customer eating. This is under new management and the staff really do not come up the the standardas the previous owners.

Only two tables in including us. When the food came I saw why. Long wait produced Huge dollop of earthy pesto slapped on a rubber salmon with a greasy med veg swimming in a pool of oil. And the attitude!! Heard how rushed she had been all day without a minute. And how she only likes tinned fish. Out for a meal I'm not remotely interested When I said this is not pesto crumb the over familiar waitress indicated that was how they did it here. And said never had any complaints. Really??? Front of house said " I'm just the waitress". That's the problem. Deal with it. You are the front line in customer service.Crushed new potatoes comprised of 3 overcooked skin on potatoes pushed roughly to break them on top of the greasy veg. Shameful food. Microwaved lasagne and bits of garlic bread was the other meal. Give this place a miss. Far better down at Lawton Heath at same price range. Not not not one to try especially when you get the vibe that it's head chef day off

We have eaten at the Royal Oak for both lunch and dinner many times over the years and never been disappointed. We called in here for lunch. The place was very busy and we had to queue to order. There was just one person behind the bar, who seemed very harassed. Once we had ordered, we sat down and waited half an hour. The food arrived. Because they were very busy they did well to serve us in half an hour and the food was excellent. I had turkey, which I couldn't fault, for less than a fiver. One of my companions had gammon and the other had lasagne, all at less than five quid a time. We all had puddings, which were a couple of quid extra, and enjoyed the food. Sadly the choice of beer is very poor. There was Bombardier, Bombardier Pale and Greene King Abbot. No micro breweries in evidence, and no craft beer that I could see. Even Greene King does craft beer, so they should have been able to stock it if they had wanted. What a shame. What could have been a superb pub was just a good cafe.
