The Fox Inn in Cheshire East

Bit of a local to us but never got around to visit until recently. Wasn't aware of the negative reviews until now but rest assured this is a great place to visit. We only intended to stay for a couple of drinks in the autumnal sunshine but ended but having dinner there and more drinks! Has everything you can wish for in a pub....great range of drinks, quality food, good atmosphere, friendly staff and a lovely beer garden (Plus all the Sports Channels 🤫). Apparently there's more to come as it's briefly closing soon for a refurb....can't wait to go back!!

Second visit since NEW management ,both times could not fault anything. Greeted well , service excellent . We had the steak and it was cooked as requested medium. This is a pub that back a few years was excellent. Since through bad management went down hill. The new manager is doing his best to bring back the reputation of this local pub to the past standard, and so far is doing that. With Elworth Garden residents and surrounding areas let’s help and try your local pub ‘The Fox ‘ get back to what it used to be. They now have a garden area with a bouncy castle for the children . Well worth a visit good food menu , children’s menu and very good atmosphere.

Vast improvement since previous reviews. New management seem to be doing a good job. Getting better and better.

Last minute decision for a meal out on Saturday evening, but so glad we came to The Fox. Always a lovely welcome when you arrive. We sat outside as it would probably be the last evening where it will be warm enough to! Nice bottle of Shiraz, Desparados Burger and a lasagne went down really well. This place has greatly improved in the last few months with the new management, we had stopped coming due to the poor food and atmosphere. Will be back again very soon. Thanks for a lovely evening 😊

We had a few beers and the Singapore Noodles with spicy beef highly recommend. Staff friendly great atmosphere. Will definitely go back 😀😀 Jill and Martin

I had some food while at this pub on Saturday 24th August. Food was delicious and service was fantastic. Along with a great atmosphere. Would highly recommend this pub.

Incredible service!!! The managers are so so assertive and welcoming. Definitely feel welcomed with x4 adults and a child under 3. Shamrock on the guiness and complete attention to detail. Bouncy castle is a bonus and can't thank the staff enough. Looking forward to future events. Thank you x

Great wee pub warm welcome and good food reasonably priced .Dogs welcomed which was a bonus for us had a lovely dinner of fish and chips and chicken and chips great price and tasted lovely . Stayed at Elm Tree farm with motor home and was perfect for us as only two minutes away. Highly recommend

Sunday lunch was brilliant, definitely be going back

We visited as a family of 6 at 12:30 today, we were told that the kitchen was 'off' but could do us either a Tuna or steak panini. Given that the kitchen was off we were very grateful that they were trying to accommodate us. 20 minutes after we received our food another table had fish chips and peas served, then another table of 6 arrived, again picked from the menu. There could have been an issue with their services or some equipment, I'm not sure, however none of them took time to explain why we were only offered two types of Panini then shortly after accepting orders from the full menu. The food, in my opinion, not worth the money. Over £20 for 3 pints and two diet cokes is a bit overpriced for the area too. Don't think we will return unfortunately.

Delightful and very welcoming staff.

Terrible establishment. What has gone wrong here??? Dirty, neglected and quite honestly an eyesore to the neighbourhood. I wont even go into the drug use witnessed. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY!

Attended on a quiet sunny day and had a main and dessert with 4 beers/ciders came to around £45 (myself and my partner). The price would indicate a bit more quality than we were given. The chicken was frozen/dry and very small with a large portion of chips (best part of the meal was the chips) . The desserts were okay but not worth the price and out of a packet/microwaved. Its on par with weatherspoons and I would rather go there and pay half the price for food. The service was good with attentive staff who were friendly. It's a shame about the food. It's a good local for a pint but I would eat elsewhere.

Mmmmm, being my local I always used to have a good word for the place. But have been absent for a while. And now,,,, probably not the same place. The garden area needs a bit of attention ( even cutting the grass may help ) staining chairs, tables etc. Drinks rather expensive. Cheaper establishments closer. !!

Business as usual , kitchen shut until 7 no microwave technician about. Only booking for 2 just walked out.

We've been eating here for a few weeks now, but this week was awful, my friend and I had lasagna that tasted off and smelt very off.... we sent it back staff were amazing and very polite, we could order something else. So we ordered scampi. I've never had scampi so full of dripping fat in my life.the following day I spent most of the morning stuck in the bathroom! Use your imagination. I'll never go back.

We had a great meal on Saturday. They catered for a table of 13. Service was brilliant.

We booked a meal for mid afternoon on a Friday. There was 3 of us and the menu had an excellent choice for all 3 courses. We chose a main & pudding. All mains were lovely, hot and tasty. There was plenty on the plate - not too over much that it over faced you, all plates empty 👌. Couldn't fault. We had room for a pudding..we all had cider apple crumble and custard..seemed to be alittle wait but was well worth it, was like a small round pie,apple, currents, taste of cinnamon and little crumble on top,small jug of custard, was lovely and 3 clean plates again. Food was great, we will definitely be returning. We asked for 'quiet ' table...which we received, we left around 4.30 and was starting to get little noisy from bar area..( possibly normal for a pub) but was are 1st time in a pub for meal at that time, we'd usually go to small quiet cafe, But we will be returning as Food was lovely, atmosphere was good, soft music and very good priced. One person in our group has problems with cleanliness, noise level and too many people, and they had no issues on day. Great place to visit, we all would recommend.

If you want a pub for good food and atmosphere then you want to visit the fox. Had a lovely time while we were there. Would highly recommend.

Not a pub I will be visiting again sadly, the lunch time menu didn't have a lot of choice & the ciabbata I choose was pretty bland. Fortunately it was a sunny day so was able to sit outside but the picnic tables are in need of repainting. Shame really

Atrocious service. We waited well over an hour and 15 minutes for food, which meant our party of seven all ate at different times. One of our party had only 10 minutes in which to eat their meal as we had a theater commitment. Lengthy wait at the bar to order food and drinks. added to the unfortunate experience, won't be back, and suggest others don't even try this restaurant.

Our party of seven had a long wait to place orders at the bar. Food was delivered almost an hour later in dribs and drabs. Main meals arrived without sides and then diners had to wait over ten minutes for sides to arrive. Some of our party had finished their meals before others had their food brought to the table. Not a pleasant or satisfactory experience. The young waitress said it was not her fault as she was new and so was the chef. If this was explained to us before we had ordered our meals we would have gone elsewhere. Wrong items were delivered to eat or were missing. Service at bar was atrocious too. This pub used to be lovely but now looks unkempt & uncared for. The price of a glass of wine is astronomical, the decking was unswept & the whole place looks like it's falling into disrepair. On a beautiful day at 1300 hrs, it would've been packed had the previous owners been still there. Instead of that there were 3 people inside, a foul mouthed foursome with their children outside & us. We won't be hurrying back. Note to owner/manager: If you want to sell drinks, it helps if there's someone behind the bar to serve you when you arrive. Not almost 5 minutes later when she deigned to make an appearance.

My wife uses a wheelchair and we were pleased to see a ramp up to the door. There is a decent menu, and we ordered food and a bottle of wine. The service and food were both really good. It was a friendly and welcoming pub.

Excellent food but had on beers on the bar when we went in five pumps on beers 😒

Food ok, but drinks expensive outside of Happy Hour. Tables / menus need some TLC . Staff rarely smile and not overly welcoming. Unfortunately a very loud and quite aggressive family marred the evening- time to find somewhere more welcoming to spend my time and money.

Had a light lunch here, today, for the first time since they reopened. There was a nice relaxed atmosphere and the service was excellent. A proper pub.

We went to the Fox on Sunday for lunch. One beef and one chicken were ordered. They arrived after 35mins and were well presented. The food was good with a variety of vegetables. The only problem was that as the food was not really hot it soon cooled down and there was a lot to eat!!

Been a few times and have not really been impressed but keep trying as it's my "local". Sunday roast was disastrous - freezer to table via oven/microwave; how it can be advertised as "home cooked" is beyond me! Chicken burger tastes ok but is not grilled so looks unappetising. Fish and chips - batter rubbery on outside yet undercooked inside, chips tasteless. Steak was tasty although a little on the tough side, chips & onion rings were excellent. Steak sandwich was also very good with tasty chips. The staff are friendly enough on the whole.

Arrived just after 12.40 pm for my booked table with family , was served by warming staff, ordered my food and it arrived in 20 or so minutes , great price for the food that arrived

Well were do I start table not even ready for 20 of us on arrival at least 10 of meals had to be sent back , cold, raw meat some overcooked just an absolute disgrace the 1 star is for the steaks everyone was happy with them. Even though we didn't pay for majority of food it does not take away the fact it ruined a lovely ladies 75th birthday no apology nothing we were told not welcome anymore well belive me being local iam totally embarrassed of this establishment the way it is currently being run food wise 😱😡

My daughter has had food poisoning since trying to eat a meal at this pub on New Years Day. The chicken was pink and returned twice with luke warm veg so in the end she refused to pay her bill. There were 9 other people who found the food disastrous and the whole experience ruined a lovely lady’s birthday! Don’t eat here unless you want food poisoning!

Visited this place today new years day will definitely not be going back what a start to the year. Where to start firstly the beef roast vegetables cold & hard the beef was rare & I mean rare awful. Fish & chips the fish was still swimming the water wow the 1 good thing was the steak everyone enjoyed. If you are passing this place trust me pass it & don't look back unless you want steak. To top it all off this was my mother's birthday party event food come out randomly cold uncooked very very disappointed never again.

Popped in for a festive pint. Great atmosphere....a proper local serving good food. Very busy which tends to tell you something.

Went here for Sunday lunch after a walk. 4 x vegans. At first we were told we could only have the veg...then it transpired we could have the nut roast. This would cost us £1 extra? All the veg was frozen, even the mash...we did enjoy it though...we were so hungry! It is a lovely pub and I think the food is letting it down. It was quite empty...pretty sure a decent Sunday lunch would bring the crowds in?

We had an early Christmas dinner with a group of friends, the food was spot on. 👌 Definitely will be returning for more. Highly recommend!!

9 of us booked and had the festive fayre menu today and couldn’t fault it. Food was gorgeous and staff really helpful. Booked for Christmas Day and can’t wait. Well done guys, smashed it!

Update Nov 2022: Steak and ale pie is excellent. I had the pie without the mash (in picture) to cut down the carbs. 2019: Nice local pub, beer garden, darts board and TV with sports. Food is standard pub grub, we had mac n cheese and veg thai curry which for the price was good. Selection of beers was standard pub variety. There is a car park but small.

Absolutely lovely staff very welcoming and friendly! Good is very nice not a long wait definitely worth the money! Will be visiting again soon

Horrendous meal!. Gammon, egg chips, huge tomato and frozen peas. Served luke warm. Only people eating food! Despite signs saying dog friendly. If you're happy to stand at tables in the drinks area, this is where you eat your food or you're expected to eat...

Proper pub food, good beer and great atmosphere.

We had some dinner here and it was absolutely amazing! Staff were lovely and welcoming the food was delicious and the drinks were even better! The pub was nice and clean. Safe to say we enjoyed our visit and will be back again

After hearing great things, we decided to book a table and go. I think it probably was an early warning sign when the bartender looked confused when we asked where our reserved table was. Service slow, 20 mins just to order. 45 mins for starters...

Arrived about 1pm, ordered food- scampi n chips and steak n mushroom pie which didn’t arrive for 45mins even though there were only 3couples there. Pie was a bog standard bought in pie, green beans were rubbery, peas and mash were ok. Scampi was soggy,...

Nice local one for me. Staff very friendly and attentive. Good selection of draft beers 🍻 But sometimes the Sports TV abit too loud for us. Not being a football fan myself, abit too much. But otherwise a good stop off for a pint.

Good local pub a very short walk from Sandbach train station thus a good place to wait for trains back yo Manchester. Had a couple of pints of Landlord to finish off a pub crawl in the centre which was a 30 min walk in and a 5 minute bus out.

Took soo long for food, it was not worth the wait after over an hour, even though we were the only table waiting. Manager tried to blame us for not complaining sooner?!

Not good I’m afraid - food took over 1 hour despite only 2 tables taken in the pub, the food was not worth the wait and the ‘ Manager’ wanted to blame us when we tried to talk to her?!

Seemed a very nice place we were not locals and it felt a bit like the pub in American werewolf the slaughterd lamb when we walked into the pub it was not unfriendly but not being from the area it would of been nice to have been more welcomed not sure if they do food

It's unfortunate that they seemed very short staffed, order came out wrong, family ate whilst I waited 20mins for my meal to be redone, wasn't busy in restaurant, maybe 10 people so must have been short staffed, was told 40 min wait for puddings, so didn't bother, food nice but some of it over cooked and veg saturated in salt and butter, lovely pub inside, shame as could be so much better, not likely to go again.

The Fox Inn is a lovely pub. We've never had a bad experience there: the staff are pleasant and friendly, the beer garden is a good size, the interior is cosy, the food has always been good and the location is just perfect for us. My partner also plays in a covers band and has played there a couple of times and has always had a good reception. 👍
