Popped in for time in years, used to be a nice place. It was full of screaming young children outside on the patio with no adult supervision. Was hoping for a relaxing drink but it appears to attract families with unruly kids so it's a no from me for visiting again.

Had lunch here, my wife had gammon which was small over cooked and tuff, egg also over cooked, very disappointed with are visit to the Royal Oak.

Excellent food , well priced and good choice of food on menu. Staff could not have been more welcoming and service was quick and friendly. All in all a very good choice for lunch.

Can not fault the food we had tonight the homemade chicken ham and leek pie was so tasty and just the right portion size, the toffee apple bread and butter pud was lovely to. What a lovely, traditional British pub! We had such a delicious Sunday lunch here as a family. The staff were welcoming, the food was fab and it was fairly priced and in nice surroundings.

Brightnights show was brilliant I have never laughed so much. For those that don't know it this is a drag performance not for the easily offended. Best night ever going again soon

Thoroughly enjoyed lunch in this popular country pub. I had a really tasty chicken, ham and leek pie - a proper pie not a casserole with a top!- accompanied by perfectly cooked veg. My friend had the special of sweet and sour tempura veg and also enjoyed that very much. Prices are reasonable, staff are really friendly. The setting is comfortabel inside and broad, sweeping country views outside. A winner!

After getting stranded in Ross on Wye for the night with my 4 kids due to a blow out I booked in for the night. The staff were amazing, we stayed in the 2 bed apartment which was perfect, the staff helped get us to the pub due to a shortage of taxis and we had dinner waiting for us on arrival which was just what we needed. Can’t thank them enough and will be visiting again in the near future with my wife for the weekend!

Visited the pub for a Sunday lunch and I wasn’t disappointed. Mushrooms, Stilton and bacon for a starter and roast beef for main. The beef was cooked perfectly and so were the vegetables. I will definitely be visiting again soon! Staff were also very friendly and welcoming. Good work guys!

My friend and I went today for Sunday lunch it was very disappointing the vegetables were very under cooked,the gammon you couldn't even cut.The only nice thing about it was the hospitality of the front of house staff.

What makes a great pub depends on your preferences - it could be good food, dog- or child-friendly, great local ales or a welcoming atmosphere. Much Marcle has three pubs but the Royal Oak has all of the above in spades. It serves typical home-cooked fare, good local Ledbury real ales and ciders. New owner, Hannah, and Nate the front of house manager, gave us the warmest of welcomes. The whole team have a good service ethos, and the food cooked by the brilliant Ukrainian chef, Elena, was super tasty. Can’t wait to come back for a Friday evening pop-up food, or one of the every other Wednesday folk music nights. Highly recommended for Sunday roast.

Booked in advance as doing a Westons cider mill tour which is just a mile 1/2 down the road. Accommodation clean, tidy and more than comfortable. Staff very friendly. Evening meal excellent with good choices and good table service. Royal Oak do not offer breakfast but can fully recommend Westons cider mill for a good breakfast. Hannah and her staff went over and beyond to accommodate us and meet our needs, making our short stay with them most memorable. Thank you and we will definitely return.

Wanted to find a local pub to do a over night stay in camper van. Decided to try here the owner was very quick to reply to my email inquiry and said yes that would be no problem when I asked if they open for breakfast the answer was no but she did suggest a few places in Ledbury just down the road. On arrival the pub was welcoming and so was the young lady who sadly we did not get the name of when it came to ordering the meal as I have a issue with black pepper among other things i ordered the lamb shank in giant yorkshire pudding she came back out and informed me that the veg was cooked with black pepper and would carrots and peas be ok I went for just peas she asked would I like onion rings as well also it was no problem to swap the mash for chips. So on to the food Starters we had chicken goujons also the bacon and stilton mushrooms they arrived quite quicky and on hot plates so did not go cold quick both where very nice. Main courses the above mentioned lamb shank the better half ordered the homemade fish pie again both very nice and on hot plates with a warning the fish pie dish was very hot. . Wide choice of drinks including 3 local ciders on draught. Will definitely be coming here again

If you want a cottage pie that consists of 98% mash, 1% meat, 0.5% carrot and pretty much no sauce then this is the place to visit!! I didn’t realise that potatoes had gone up so much in price that they can warrant charging nearly £15! Will not be eating here again

Booked very last minute over the Christmas period for a short stay for my elderly relatives with 2 dogs. Hannah arranged for us and we were able to check in even though the pub was closed. Very comfortable ground floor room with pri ate access, a double bed, single bed and a sofa. Big TV, lots of storage, tea and coffee making facilities. Lovely and warm and a really good sized bathroom. Stayed with 2 small dogs and even dog bowls were provided. There's a good size field opposite the room for walking the dogs. A huge area for parking. A little bench outside the room where you can sit and look out over the fields. They had dinner at the pub on one evening and the dogs were also welcome. They really enjoyed their meal and we would recommend to anyone. Thank you Hannah.

First eat in after lock down, although have had weekly take-way throughout as quality is tops.We live locally and do have some good food houses within the radius of 10-15 miles or so.This is the best quality food 100% i have to say, all seasonal local and cooked from scratch.Menu is good, covers all taste and preferences, but besides all this the service and provision is exceptional.The Oak has continued to provide top quality home cooked local food throughout lockdown with added offer of food outside their menu using local fresh ingredients.Really cant fault this restaurant.. quality is paramount! Eating out with family is something I've taken for granted till the recent year. Since Herefordshire entered tier one I was keen to book somewhere we were sure to have a lovely evening and The Royal Oak did not disappoint. The food was delicious, all staff polite and friendly and it felt very covid safe. Food was delivered timely, beautifully presented and with a smile. Already looking forward to my next visit.

Always good quality food, good portion sizes, good prices, friendly staff. The take aways during the last lockdown and this lockdown were to their usual very high standards. Ring up, order, and the food is cooked to order. again huge portion sizes.

Stayed here overnight to see the Johnny cash trio. We were welcomed by Jess and shown to our room. Room was fab, very clean and comfortable. We booked in for food and were not disappointed. Gorgeous food and both really enjoyed. The trio were awesome and we had an absolute blast! Breakfast the next morning was lovely and again very impressed! Jess is like wonder woman and works tirelessly and one hell of a chef! Waiting staff were fab too! Not a single negative to be said and we will definitely come up and stay again. Being on holiday we visited here as it was local.Generous portion size and we were a bit full by the end so didn't need the first course. We ordered a sharing platter of belly of pork as a starter. Tender pork in BBQ sauce but quite rich.Hubbie had the steak and stilton pie with dauphinoise potatoes and vegetables on the side. He said it was delicious and seemed home made.I had the duck two ways - very good and nice to see duck on the menu as it often isn't. If you wanted it pink you'd be disappointed but I'm okay with this. I also had the dauphinoise potatoes with red cabbage and again refreshing to see a different potato option.

Visited for first time last Sunday - great choice for a Sunday menu and as one of us a vegetarian. Fantastic food, very clean and lovely to see that the outside patio area is so well maintained, no weeds and tidy. Thought the man behind the bar may have previously been at a pub in Apperley? No surprise if that is the case - was always very good when there too. Keep it up !

Had lunch there yesterday - all measures in place due to the Corona virus - we are in the vulnerable group but felt quite relaxed. Food was excellent - landlord really nice guy very friendly - it was our anniversary so we went A la Carte - but when we return we will go for the specials which are excellent value for money.

We came across the Royal Oak on a day out in Herefordshire. Not long renovated pub/ restaurant on the road between Ledbury & Much Markle. We were pleasantly surprised by the nice location (despite the A449), the friendly welcome & had a lovely chat with the landlord. The chef was most accommodating when our choice of lunch was not available & rustled up a delicious veggie filling for our wraps. Definitely recommend this place!

We come here quite often even before lock down, in fact this was one of the treats we missed especially for a mid week break.Ate here last night again,they have a pie and pud deal, excellent quality cooked from fresh, and value for money you could not beat anywhere.Very attentive friendly staff, dog friendly and lovely surroundings and garden.Difficult to beat as an all rounder! We phoned the pub yesterday to order a takeaway three course Sunday lunch (for today) as a surprise for two family members. Dan was so helpful in organising everything for us.Well, Dan. They absolutely loved it! Having now seen the photos, we can see why! All three courses looked amazing and we are are told each one tasted every bit as good as it looked. The empty plates and dishes said it all!Thank you so much for an all round first class experience. We will be ordering again for sure!

I can't tell you what the interior of the pub looks like but I can tell you the food is brilliant. We ordered 2 types of pie, beef lasagne and scampi for dinner tonight and none of us were disappointed. The chips were crispy and soft, the mash very buttery, and the pies (steak and Stilton) and (Chicken, mushroom and Sage) were very tasty. We will be ordering again soon, and visiting when this lockdown is over.

A friend and I meet at The Royal Oak about once a month for a catch up. EVERY time we visit, we are greeted with a very warm welcome. The food is superb, we've had the daily pie which is exceptional and we have tried their wraps and sandwiches. All the food is freshly prepared, piping hot and delivered with a smile.One of the major thums up I must give them is they ALWAYS come to check if everything is ok with our meals in a timely manner, so should there be a need there is time to rectify any issues. This is something I wish other establishments would do more of.So in a nut shell, if you eat at The Royal Oak you are guaranteed a warm welcome and incredibly good food. You won't be disappointed.

As the title says, the food is excellent but, not always hot.There appears to be only one poor lady serving which may result in a long wait; not her fault. Perhaps the landlord could spend a little less time on his telephone and more time attending to his clientele and then it would truly deserve 5stars. However, we are not put off and shall return!

Decided to meet the eldest, who works in Cardiff, for lunch. Spent some time looking for a place halfway and chose the Royal Oak. Was well worth the 1.30 hour drive! Staff were friendly and the food was great. The big boy had the Sunday feast which had all the roast meats! I had venison for main and duck starter. Very happy. I drove here but my wife had to drive home, you must try the old thumper beer!

Our meals were good sized portions and enjoyable for the price, but very disappointed by the attitude of the lady(landlady?) serving us. After the main my mum asked for a cappuccino (as on menu) but the machine wasn't working- the apology was more token than heart-felt. When given Dessert Menus we were told the only thing not available was the Rice pudding- fair enough as I wanted the creme brulee with the home made chocolate chip cookie. I therefore expressed surprise when my creme brulee was plonked in front of me with no chocolate chip cookie, but a small butter thin fan quarter. As the "waitress" was disappearing she waved her hand saying that they didn't have any chocolate chip cookies... no real apology. Both my husband and I are involved in customer service and were a bit shocked at the nonchalant attitude expressed. We were trying the pub out again with my mother who lives locally and who had heard there was new management. I doubt we'll bother again for all the portions were decent.

Went here today for Sunday lunch. Staff were polite, professional and very welcoming the food was excellent and reasonably priced I highly recommend the Sunday Roast feast which was only £13 bar was well stocked too. Highly recommended.

We Visited the royal Oak last Sunday. We were greeted by a friendly guy who we later found out was the boss. It's our first time there and it was lovely and warm, the staff were polite and attentive and we were really made to feel at home. We all went for traditional roast dinners, however I have to say the menu had lots of fabulous other dishes on offer too. The Roasts were beautiful, fresh vegetables on the side beautifully presented and plenty of it and my kids were rewarded with an EXTRA JUG OF GRAVY EACH, as they practically drink the stuff :-) lol. We all had desserts which you could tell they were homemade, which makes such a change from the mass-produced desserts you will often find in other outlets. We also our coffee snobs, and we really enjoyed the blended roast that this pub served us... YUM !On paying the bill the we were delighted to be given some little chocolates which we thought was nice touch and the kids polished off in the blink of an eye. Our wonderful experience was completed when the landlord opened the door as we were leaving and thanked us for coming and wished us a safe onward journey. These little gestures makes such a huge difference. In summary a fabulous place with a really lovely young team. We will definitely return again next time we are in the area. :-)

Great pub in the countryside with a diverse menu , I have tested a few of the meals now and am always looking forward to the next visit - The food is great .I have known Dan & Jess since meeting them in 2017 at their previous premises , they run a great business with lovely food ,great live music nights and you are always greeted with a friendly face.I would and have recommended this venue to friends and colleagues. I was very surprised ( and disappointed) to read Fiona D’s review from yesterday’s visit to the Royal Oak yesterday lunchtime. We were there as recently as last Wednesday to enjoy the steak specials menu and have had many Sunday roasts at Dan & Jess’s over the years at the Royal Oak and their previous pub the Farmers Arms. The main reasons for our visits is the food from Jess’s kitchen is always guaranteed to be first class when it reaches your table and the welcome/banter/conversations to be had with Dan when he’s behind the bar is equally enjoyable. As far as the staff being rude, our experiences couldn’t be more opposite. We’ve always found them to be polite and very patient. As regards the roast potatoes surely they are meant to be firm. Nobody wants soggy roast potatoes but if they were undercooked, then by all means point it out. Everyone has opinions, but my old gran was always telling me if you can’t say anything good about someone, don’t say anything bad.

We visited today on a recommendation from family who live in the area after visiting them for the weekend .

We visited the Royal Oak several times during September and thoroughly enjoyed our evening meals, which included excellent fish dishes, burgers, and meat dishes. We also had superb bacon and brie cibattas which came with really nice chips. Prices were reasonable, locals friendly and staff professional. What more could you want? We shall be back soon.
