On holiday nearby and booked a table to have Sunday lunch for our Anniversary...had a generous Roast beef dinner...a variety of green and root vegetables and a delicious cauliflower cheese made with a proper cheese sauce..oh and a huge light Yorkshire pudding all served with a rich gravy. Husband had dessert (I was too full) and was presented with a huge slice of lemon cheesecake with vanilla ice-cream... definitely homemade and delicious. Service was friendly and efficient and we are planning another visit before the end of our holiday.

Hey! A pub with fresh 'Butty Bach' constantly on tap!!! (Nuff said) but the Ox Cheek and the huge fish and chips (with mushy ('mooshy') peas) completes the experience. Always great and surprising options, in the 'specials', to begin the weekend with. Great atmos and dog friendly. Please ignore this review - I don't want to provoke crowding and queueing.

We are regulars to this hidden gem, and can’t recommend it highly enough. We went as a large party, with a baby who didn’t want to sleep, wheelchairs, high chairs and a huge cake….the food is delicious, and the staff simply couldn’t do enough to help. They made a special occasion go off with a bang. Whether we go in for a quick coffee, or a quiet lunch, or a large gathering, it’s always 10/10. Great food, great welcome. Get yourself down there!!!

We visited friends who were staying in LittleTarrington and they booked the Crown and Anchor for us to have lunch. A friendly welcome was offered by the staff and we ordered drinks and were shown to our table. The Sunday lunch menu offered 4 starters and 4 main courses with a vegetarian option. Our wives both had Roast Turkey, whilst we men both had the Beef (served medium rare),all arrived with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoe's,carrot's and parsnips, whilst the ladies also had homemade sausage meat stuffing to accompany the turkey, and separate dishes of cauliflower cheese, brocolli and cabbage were delivered as sides. An extra jug of gravy was requested and duly delivered along with horseradish and cranberry sauce. All were polished off and empty plates the order of the day. For dessert 3 of us had apple crumble and custard and 1 of us ate ETON MESS sundae. With a couple of bottles of DOOM BAR 0% alcohol,1/2 lager and a J20 the bill came to a reasonable (inc drinks) about £110. A lovely way to spend an hour or so in a nice country pub, with nice food and genial hosts. We are all hoping to return very soon.

Very disappointed in the meal. 8 of us went there last night as a birthday celebration. Three of us ordered Steak salad & the other Chicken Caeser salad. The 4 men's orders were very good & the 2 desserts they had after were good. Sadly can't say the same for our salads! £17.95 for 4 strips of steak, lettuce leaves,a few bits of pepper & cucumber & some cherry tomatoes. The other 2 steak salads had 6/7 strips of steak(I was unlucky with 4 strips). With that came a small pot of blue cheese dressing which helped a little to lift the 'salad'! The Chicken salad had even less salad- 7 pieces of lettuce & handful of croutons! Honestly, to be charged £17.95 for that - was not value for money. Had it not been such a special occasion I probably would have complained on the night.

On a recommendation, family booked Sunday lunch (28/8). Sadly, the quality of the food was very poor. Quantity of the roast beef was fine, but extremely tough. Indeed, the chef must have been aware when slicing?? Vegetables/potatoes were bland and undercooked. Waiting staff were very pleasant and efficient, but 'the kitchen' let the let the team down.

This place has vastly improved under the more recent management - the forever cheerful Gail and the rather dour Charlie (well he carries the burden of being Scottish). It's one of those delightful old English pubs that resists video screens and games machines. A log fire and lots of crannies to sneak into to enjoy the food. (Hint: Always try the specials). Recommended.

The accommodation booked by me and my motorcycling buddy was too far from Hereford easily to walk into the City. We were, therefore, delighted to find this pub in the local village, a ten minute walk across open fields. Of the three evenings we stayed, we ate and and drank in the C&A for two of them. We were made very welcome in the buzzy atmosphere, full of locals. The beer and cider was perfectly kept and the food, a good choice of pun favourites, was beautifully cooked.

First impressions as you walk in are that you are stepping back in time and with a group of old farmers propping up the bar. But once you get over that cliquey feel and the odd long stares, it's actually quite a pleasant place, with a really nice garden area. Food wise, I had the Mushroom Tagliatelle which was absolutely delicious, and surprisingly authentic tasting. Definitely one of the better pubs on the outskirts of the city and to see it so busy midweek is an indication of its quality, though a slightly friendlier group of staff (a smile would go a long way) would be preferred.

It's a lovely pub. Unfortunately, they'd finished serving food when we attended. First rate bar staff. As seems to be the way in Herefordshire, the staff don't see it as a competition, more a 'collective', when the lady heard I was a fan of real ale, she recommended another pub 'for me to try'. That's one of the things I love about Hereford! They're a Team! It's all about THEIR area, not THEM as individual locations..........

Evening meal inadequate. Fish cake starter was virtually all potatoe and overcooked. Rump Steak sent back as it was cold, but was replaced, but overpriced. Stilton and Port sauce was too runny and not reduced enough, so too sharp. Salad garnish was wilted slightly yellow and bitter. Chips overdone and tasted of old oil. Steak and Ale pie was overly herb tasting and came with peas when asked for mixed vegetables. One pudding sent back as was cold and main course curry was way too salty and ended up with person sharing another’s food. Didn’t complain too much as was trying to avoid the hassle on an evening out with children, but won’t visit again. Put an awkward feel on evening as expensive for the quality we had, and put up with it as had limited time. Service was slow and waitress not clued up on puddings. More checks before for food leaves kitchen and taste what they’re sending recommended. Disappointed to leave this kind of review as have enjoyed food here in the past, and it’s a cosy pub with friendly people and a good atmosphere, but food is lacking unfortunately.

We were actually going to stay near here, but ultimately chose a different location. As we were near Hereford, we wanted to go for a drink. We did that. It looked so nice and the Scottish owner - who apparently turned 66 that day - was super friendly and decided to reserve a table for that evening. Around six we had something to drink and then had a delicious meal. The service was super friendly and funny. In combination with the delicious food and the cozy atmosphere, this is highly recommended. It's that it's a bit too 'far' otherwise we would definitely visit again.

Been here many times before and had a fantastic meal but today just wasn't the same. We were firstly put just by the toilets..... we could tell by the smell that we were seated by the loos. We were a group of four plus two highchairs and I can definitely say this is not a child friendly restaurant; I had to change a nappy on the floor of the ladies bathroom. Starters were fine, we ordered camembert, two soups and a prawn cocktail. Mains were mostly steaks, of which the meat itself was pleasant all round, however the onion rings were very greasy. Desserts were the syrup sponge and chocolate fudge cake, all of which seemed like they had been microwaved and were very underwhelming for £6.95 each. I had a gin and tonic which cost over £6.50 for a single and our entire bill came to over £160. Service was very average, although the waitresses were attentive, they seemed like they didn't really want to be there and didn't have a particularly nice manner. The bar was busy, which is nice to see for a village pub. I felt like this venue has come away from being the delicious restaurant I'd previously visited and become more of a local watering hole. Unfortunately we likely won't return

I visited for the first time today. I am regularly in Leominster as I have a caravan nearby, but didn't know this place existed. It has a lovely, shabby-chic atmosphere. There is a huge collection of books which are all in good condition - perfect for Virgos like me who get anal about an unsullied spine. The coffee was excellent and the cake was really yummy. The service was really friendly. This will be my new regular haunt when I'm in Leominster. I much prefer to support independent, local businesses. Love it!
