The Royal Oak in Lewes

Me and my husband stayed here for a night while we were travelling around The Peak District on our motorbike. We absolutely loved it! The staff were friendly and very helpful, couldn't do enough for us. The evening meal was extremely good, highly recommend eating here even if you don't stay. The atmosphere was relaxing and the pub busy. Great playlist of music playing quietly outside in the lovely garden. The room was a little dated but functional, the shower was great, powerful and plenty of hot water. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate provided with some biccies too :) We had a lovely nights sleep and we were very comfortable. Breakfast was really good, plenty of choice and excellent quality food. The lady who served us was an absolute treasure! There is a great walk out the back of the pub which took us around 6.5 miles along the river and through the gorgeous countryside. If you fancy it, download the Komoot app and it will lead you the way! We totally recommend this place and will stay again next time we are passing through! Visiting from the Midlands,seen the good reviews,so walked up from ashbourne,to give it a try so pleased we made the effort.Food fantastic,portion sizes unbelievable.And all the staff are so nice,It's definitely 10 out 10.

Only 10 minutes from Newhaven holiday park where we are staying, this place was recommended by my friends and it didn’t disappoint! Lovely staff, delicious Bakewell cocktail and the food was delicious. I had the lambs liver and it was cooked perfectly. The gravy was absolutely bursting with flavour and the veg were lovely too. My daughters ate off of the kids menu, the chicken strips were covered with panko breadcrumbs and they were proper chicken breast too which is unusual as usually reformed chicken 🙌 my other daughter had the chicken burger and ate the lot. The girls shared a chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream which was perfect because it was rather large! I would highly recommend coming here to eat.

Called here on spec for a light lunch on a return journey from Norwich to Cheshire. the pub has an extensive car park to the rear. Being Sunday, there were lots of roasts on offer, but also an extensive choice of lighter meals and sandwiches. It was alovely day and the pub was very busy. But the lovely staff quickly found us a table. It is a real local. Many of the customers seemed to know each other, and they were also very friendly to 'srangers'. It was a great atmosphere. Our food was good and substantial. The ham, egg and chips was a good=sized main, and the tuna sqandwich was quite sizable too. It turned out to be more than a 'light lunch'. Very good.

Driven past this place loads so decided to finally try. All we can ask ourselves is why we haven’t been before? The food was fantastic, great portions and so much to choose from. It really did take us ages to decide because the menu looks awesome! We will absolutely be returning (lots) so we can try everything!! The outside area looks like it would be great in the summer too….unfortunately for us it was raining today. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming also.

We ate for the first time here after a long journey back from London and I'm so glad we did. My meal (pork belly) was the best I've had in a long time . My wife is a vegetarian and there were plenty of options too, which was a rare treat. The venue was clean, tidy and had a lovely atmosphere. Along with this the staff were polite and friendly too. Will definitely be visiting again

This is a brilliant place to meet up very friendly and very attentive all the staff was lovely everywhere very clean. Would definitely recommend.

Just been to this lovely pub.. my partner had steak and I had steak and ale pie..the food was first class.. service fantastic.. will definitely go back again.xx

Wonderful little hotel, staff are wonderful 😀 very accommodating! Go the extra mile for you all you have to do is ask. Had evening meal and breakfast and both were wonderful! Very reasonable price as well. Hopefully booking alton towers again in October this year 🙏 if we do this is the hotel I will be back at without question

Called in after our walk, the staff were friendly and really good with our young children. Food was delicious and even impressed our very fussy eater . Thank you for the warm welcome, shame we don't live locally but will definitely call in again if on a walk in the area

Pre booked for my birthday, which they recommend, and although it was a Monday night it was starting to get busy, so it was a good idea. We had the mixed starter platter which was great then the gammon and the jalfrezi, both of which were fantastic. Plenty of food for a reasonable amount of money. The service was great as well. If we were ever staying in the area again, I would certainly go again.

12 of us were camping locally and wanted to find somewhere to eat. It was a Monday so many places not serving food. Had starters and mains but the potions were HUGE so we regretted the starters. Food was exceptional with a great selection for all tastes. Garden is lovely so nice setting to eat there too. Couldn’t recommend more.

This is a little gem. The beer garden is lovely and great for a drink in the lovely weather. The staff are so lovely and are constantly cleaning the garden up and taking away the empty glasses. The only thing which deters me from the garden is the kids play area in which everything is coated in something green - so I would not recommend that aspect. Bust as said before everything else is lovely.

Really impressed with the food and the price. I had the Sunday roast beef and my partner had gammon. I also had the best ever Eton Mess. If we didn't live so far away, we would be regular customers. The staff were brilliant too.

Stayed for one night at Royal Oak on the edge of Peak District. Good points were warm welcome from staff, excellent and abundant dinner and ideal location. Looking at other reviews we clearly had bad luck with our room where bathroom light was broken, tv remote did not work and toilet seat was loose. There was also a dirty mug and crumbs on the bedside table. Against that the hotel was good value.

Stayed for 1 night. Good choice of food for dinner and breakfast with generous portions. Lovely comfortable room with modern bathroom. Excellent value for money.

Me and my wife stopped of in Mayfield after a walk in the peak district, we didn't book but they accommodated us and I have too say that the meals we had were excellent I had the pork belly and my wife had the chicken curry and I have to say that it was the best pub meal I've had in ages and you certainly get your money's worth definitely worth a visit
