We visited as a party of six and pre-booked our meals. The pub has a lovely atmosphere for a small group. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal and would visit again. The Sunday lunch was recommended by other diners and we will certainly be back.

Booked Sunday lunch here as the Royal Oak has now a range of dining experiences on offer from curry and steak nights and Sunday lunch in addition to a menu of pub favorites. The food was well prepared and plenty of vegatables to chose from. Great value for money. The service was friendly. This local pub needs to be supported if it is to remain a local facility for the community.

This pub is a great place to visit. Great beer, my favourite lager (kozel) on draught, wonderful staff and fabulous food. Until quite recently we had only stopped by for a quick beer or two after work, but recently decided to give the food a go and we are so glad we did. On one occasion, they were clearly very busy and about to get a large party in the restaurant, but nevertheless they still managed to fit us in and we enjoyed some great food. My husband says the ham is to die for and I particularly enjoyed their warm salad. We would definitely recommend this place.

Our experience was very poor. The staff were very friendly but the food was poor. A small business like this has to charge a bit more for food and I was happy to pay but the food has to be good value and well cooked and it just wasn't. My wife ordered @lemon Crusted Cod' and was given fish and chips and the 'rustic chips' which one would have expected to be chunky affairs were just oven chips. My steak was flavourless, tough and overpriced and my wife had brownies for pudding which were like stone! We really should have taken issue with the manager but we were just glad to get out. Hence this slightly cowardly swipe!

We have family in the village, yet we have never been to the pub. What a mistake, it’s an absolute little gem. Great place with nice style and character. The owners are welcoming and friendly. Good range of beers and spirits. A small but nice selection of good quality wines. The restaurant is small and a few of the tables were reserved. Bear this in mind and book if you can. Called in Sunday lunchtime on the off chance, not been for a while and was delighted. Sat in the sunshine at the pretty tables outside, & had lovely, lovely food. Staff very friendly, service prompt and cheerful. Food to die for - had the slow roast brisket 'burger': pulled beef beautifully slow cooked, piled so high on a brioche the bun had to be held in place with a wooden skewer - topped with cheese (the real stuff, not plastic slices) and served with beautifully seasoned and dressed salad, and chips that were crispy, golden & generous in portion. All our group's food was wonderful, & looking at tables served around us each plateful was gorgeous to look at. Prices VERY reasonable we thought for fresh local produce cooked to order. Lots of happy faces and satisfied customers. If you're looking through reviews for this place please realise the negative ones are for previous managers a couple of years ago. The current proprietors there now have done wonders with the place, and deserve the high praise they receive from more recent reviews (tho ignore the complaint from the total idiot comparing prices to Weatherspoons for goodness sake - if you like big bargain bucket chains with frozen multipack rubbish go elsewhere!)

We stopped by for lunch on Sunday 25th Feb - and I'm so glad we did. The staff were lovely - super helpful about kids meals which we could either order off the main menu for smaller portions, or just ask for something and they'd see what they could do. They rustled up sausage roll, veg and chips for my daughter, and she ate loads! This in itself is a great sign - she can be a fussy 6 year old eater. My husband ordered gnocchi, and then looked like he'd gone to Heaven with every mouthful. I ordered squid and it was possibly the best squid I've ever had. Not chewy, not greasy - perfect. We visited the Royal Oak twice a few years ago and had fantastic meals - in particular I recall a wonderful T-Bone Steak - so have been wanting to return for some time. I read the recent comments so booked with some trepidation, especially as it was a Friday evening, We parked the car easily by a new-looking and busy children's play area and walked through dozens of people outside as it was a warm evening. It was with some concern then that we entered an empty dining room which looked like it is usually a lounge bar - complete with dart board. The tables were uncovered but clean. Only two places were laid out in the entire room. The stories must have been true we thought, but we were delighted to be proved wrong. The service was friendly and polite and the food freshly cooked and very good. There was no t-bone but I did have a very tasty rib-eye followed by an equally tasty bread and butter pudding. One pint each of Pedigree and Banks's washed it all down well. It was pub food at its best again. I urge the doubters to give it a try before it's too late. I would have given it five stars but for the paper serviettes. Proper napkins would have earned the extra star.

This lovely village pub has had some terrible reviews in recent years BUT new landlords Colin and Caroline are a delight! Previous management saw the Oak nosedive almost to the point of no return- empty, lifeless and poorly kept. However, things are very much on the up and the pub is now wonderfully clean, bright and welcoming... Finally the friendly village buzz has returned!I am local to Leigh Sinton and recently took a friend for an early evening drink midweek. We ordered our beer- always a nice choice given the pub's small size and asked for a bowl of cheesy chips. I hadn't realised the time (it was at least an hour before evening service was due to start). Caroline let me know that the fryers were not yet on, but she would get them started up just for us! Chips here are hand cut in the kitchen; no pre-bagged rubbish!Give this pub another chance if you haven't visited in a while, it really is on the up!

We used to use this pub as an eating venue quite often some years ago when you usually had to book to get a table, sadly the pub went into decline on the food front with changes to landlords and indeed it has once again changed hands recently. We decided however to give it a try and see what sort of food the new tenants are going to serve up. It was quite on our Thursday evening visit, but I was buoyed by seeing that there was a Chefs special Beef curry available and for just £5.00, so I didn't bother too much about the rest of the menu, although I could see it was the usual pub type grub with a variety of steaks, gammon, a variety of pies, scampi and some decent veggie options. My wife decided to try the Lasagne. My curry was quite pleasant and was quite a large portion with a good amount of beef that was nice and tender. I had been warned it had a kick to it, which was right, but it wasn't too hot. I would have liked a popadom and some mango chutney with it, but for a fiver, perhaps that's stretching it a bit so no complaints there. My wife enjoyed her Lasagne, which was well presented with garlic bread, although she did feel that there could have been a little more sauce as she found it slightly on the dry side, but nevertheless she scoffed it all down.I couldn't drink alcohol having given blood some hours before, but I have had some real ales there some weeks back and they were ok, they also sell the usual girly lagers and Guinness along with a selection of Jack Rabbit wines. I have no doubt the owners are still finding their feet, but it looks like a decent start and whilst it may not be somewhere I would go at present for a special meal, we will certainly go back for some good honest pub grub.

Well i'm going to start by commenting on the awful reviews on here, and i find it very strange that there are a series of one dot comments/ratings.seems a bit suspicious to me.In fact think should be maybe looked into by T A.Me and my family's experience is totally different,i started using this lovely pub about four weeks ago, after moving in to the area.Firstly as a watering place after a days graft, the ales are exceptional, and the landlady is accommodating, pleasant and always happy every time i've been there. We tried to book last week for sunday lunch, but it was fully booked. So this tells me something must be good about the food there. So we managed to get there this Sunday gone, what can i say.Delicious, well presented with vegetables you can eat, instead of the rock hard veg you get in some places. There is a range of size portions from large to medium to,childs portion.which they kindly let my mother have,as she is a very small eater.I did not have the desert i was full, but my partner and mum did,and they enjoyed them to.Ok ive not had anything else off the menu, but to say its an unwelcoming pub,is way off kilter.Ive written quite a few reviews, sometimes good about places and then if its not upto scratch later i will comment again. So far here at The Royal oak, everything has been top dollar.well done keep up the good work, and pay a visit folks.

I have re-visited this pub three times for food since being taken over by the new owners (who are lovely, welcoming people). I have eaten off the lunch time menu, evening menu and sampled the roasts on a Sunday, and i must say that on each occasion i have received nothing short of a 5* service and 5* food, which is home cooked as stated, nothing near the "standard mass produce food" that it was referred to by a previous reviewer, you cannot compare real chips to fries!! (I do wonder if this guy has ever been to MacDonald to dare make the comparison).Anyway couldn't praise this place more if I tried. Really worth visiting!!P.S best pint of Marstons around.

You need to be hungry, standard mass produced food. Better off at MacDonalds. Staff are cheerful enough. We went on a very quite day and service was just about quick enough.

On our travels we dropped in for some food with our kids, the staff were most welcoming and very friendly and the food was exactly as described! "Good honest home cooked food" would recommend to anyone! Thank you Caroline and Colin.

We booked a table for 5 of us a couple of weeks ago and on arrival the restaurant was obviously not set up for dining. We were told the room was booked for a race night and the chef mentioned he could not cater for us. On a second thought he offered to cook for us if we chose our food immediately, most un welcome experience I have ever had in a restaurant. The waitress, who was very pleasant, apologised to us on the way out. We visited a local chain restaurant who were happy for our custom.

Visited the royal oak with my partner and parents. Barry and Mike the new landlords offered a very warm welcome. The food was fantastic, beautifully presented and tasted fantastic. It was all "home cooked" and prepared fresh. The change in the pub in the few short weeks that Barry and Mike having been running it is unbelievable. Will definitely be returning!!!!

Having avoid this place for some time, decided to give it a whirl for lunch.Ample choices, reasonable prices. Opted for scampi and in basket. Exceedingly tasty chips, nicely cooked scampi, sauces in sachets galore.Very clean, welcoming environment. Will be retuning I am sure.

I have been to this pub since the mid 1990's under various landlords. Thank goodness at last the pub can have a new lease of life! There are a good selection of beers available and the food is what you would expect good tasty pub grub. Reasonably priced and with a nice atmosphere. Menu is varied and they serve food all day including breakfast. We ate with two small children who were made welcome - dogs are welcome too in the bar. It is nice to see they are using local produce where possible. The village welcome Mike and Barry. Keep up the good work!

We went here for a meal a couple of years ago and weren't very impressed. We decided to try again as I'd noticed the sign outside saying new chef. We were both impressed with our meals. The staff are friendly, the pub is nice and the choice is good and reasonably priced. Worth another try!

Made to feel very welcome, staff could not have been more helpful. Food was better than average and was cooked just the way I like it.

I visited this venue last week with a few ex work colleagues. When I booked I was told that a new chef was starting that week. The food was very poor. Our party decided against a starter so that we would have room for a dessert. When we asked to order a homemade dessert from the menu we were told that there were no desserts at the moment only ice cream or cheese! We declined & ordered coffee & tea. My tea was just a cup of tea, no pot for a top up. Needless to say we will not be returning!

Unfortunately this place has gone down hill overcth past year or so, the owners appear to spend too much time the "wrong" side of the bar and bar/restaurant side are not far behind! Food is ok, but nothing you couldn't cook and enjoy much more yourself and the pub is lookng tired and dated. There are plenty of places I would rather go and rate within Malvern and the surrounding area.

I'm sorry landlady . . . I just couldn't complain yesterday in front of those 8 people who had gone through what my mum and I went through. I thought you may have to give them their money back too. Hope you appreciate that I just paid up and left.I have given you the one star for your service which was bright and quick and pleasant. However, I did notice that the lady who gave me the bill (27.50 for two sunday lunches, a white wine spritzer, a small glass of shiraz and a pint of decidedly mediocre Marstons . . my flabber has never been so gasted)) did not ask me if everything was OK. I guess she was afraid of the answer . . .I had a bad feeling when we walked in at 1pm and the people who has sat down at 1230 appeared to be still waiting. Then the smell of cooking oil hit . . . and alarm bells started to tinkle.Still me mum was happy to be out and the lady who served us was pleasant. I mean how much can a Sunday Roast be botched? The answer . . . so much that I can quite honestly say this was THE WORST sunday lunch i have ever experienced anywhere. I asked if the beef was rare. The lady checked. She said they could overdo it if I want but I said no pink was brill. Mum went for the chicken. Well you can't mess up chicken can you. YOU"D THINK!!!!Firstly, no roasties . . . just lumpy lukewarm mash. To be fair the vegetables . . . what there were of them . . . were actually cooked really well. The gravy was actually poured straight onto the plates . . . which was unfortunate cos the plates were cold. You can imagine . . .The beef . . . oh dear God . . .what was it . . . was it the impossibility of cutting it? The taste? The fact that it was lumped in a mound . . . Honestly it was soooooooooooooo awful. Oh and no Yorkshire? C'mon guys . . . you are extracting the michael. You should be ashamed.Mum offered me her chicken which I politely declined. She said I'm not going to eat the leg . . . so I took it from her plate. IT WAS COLD!!!!!!! I'm not sure if it was frozen because I wasn't going near it again. Then Mum said 'I didn't like to say . . . but the breast was cold too'.Seriously . . . perhaps you would have preferred to have defended yourself but as I say I decided not to spoil my mum's day or embarrass her. And the eight people who were within earshot.Terrible, terrible, terrible.Avoid like the plague. I am not a rival landlord. Just a punter who likes to tell it like it is. And what was it like? THE WORST EVER!

What a shame, this used to be a wonderful village pub, good atmosphere, beer and food and a pleasant place to be.It is nothing short of a disgrace. the pub is dirty, the toilets are a health hazard (really!), beer (when they have any) is appalling and I wouldn't dare risk the food. The wine is haphazard (a Lidl price tag on one bottle), the fridges don't appear to work and white wine is warm. The landlord seems to spend all his time the wrong side of the bar, never without a drink in his hand no matter what time of day and on many times definitely one over the eight.Get your act together Marston's or do you not really care? This is the only pub in a lovely village of about 700 people and should be a pleasant, profitable part of the community.Surely this can't continue, please put it out of its misery or bring in a professional publican, not someone playing at it!

Oh dear, this used to be a great pub, one to visit on a regular basis. Unfortunately since the local landlord has taken over it's gone in to terminal decline. The beer choice is non existant, the food is terrible and the landlord spends most of his time on the wrong side of the bar. This should be the hub of the village, packed with regulars, as it used to be! Instead, it feels remote and uninviting... Wake up Marstons!

Don't take my word for it give it a go and have a laugh at how awful food can be cooked.. The people who seem to run the pub are really nice but the food is the worst I have ever experienced in my 45 years of dining .. I hope the owners read this as they will agree it wasn't bad it was beyond bad. 22.2.12

We used to visit The Royal Oak quite often. The restaurant is very small and you usually had to book at lunchtimes to be sure of a table. The food was always good and probably (at lunchtime anyway) set out mainly to appeal to the Senior Citizen market. We haven't been for two or three years but when we were in the area the other day, we thought we would try it again, especially as they are taking part in a newspaper two for one offer. The pub has clearly changed hands since our last visit and we were surprised to find we were the only customers in the restaurant although there were a few in the lounge. We had booked but it didn't really feel that we were expected as there was very little heating on a very cold day and a large TV and speaker had been left on one of the tables, doubtless used at a previous function. The obv iously knew that the table wouldn't be needed. The other slight irritation was that the paper serviettes provided were quite the smallest we have ever come across. The menu was fairly traditional pub grub although the speciality of the house seemed to be game. However we stuck to the more usual soup followed by gammon and fish, all of which was served piping hot, despite cold plates. It was all tasty and nicely cooked but iIf we had a criticism, the portions were too large and we both struggled to eat up. If they want to appweal to the older generation, this could be something that would put them off.We didn't really have room for desserts but it was in this department that we could see the biggest difference at The Royal Oak. Under the old regime, the sweets were to die for with a wide variety of calorie busting temptations on offer. From the current menu, there looked to be very little choice and certainly nothing that appealed so we would have passed even if we had had room. Our two for one card made it good value for us but I would say that had we paid the full price, it would have been little on the pricey side. So, all in all, our return was a bit disappointing and judging by the empty restaurant compared to how it used to be, is a view that we are not alone in holding.

The menu was poor, their had been no changes since we stayed last year. My husband ordered the risotto, he didn't expect to have to pull sticks of heards out of his meal.

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

An amazing Sunday lunch at this lovely local pub. Visited with friends and 3 of us chose the roast beef. It is the best beef I've eaten. My friend, who is a vegetarian, had the Sunday roast but substituted the meat for cauliflower cheese...which she loved. I would highly recommend this lovely place for a warm and friendly Sunday lunch.
