Avoid this pub and the brewery that owns it. They ripped me off, HMRC have been informed about the way they operate and pay staff cash to avoid paying tax and national insurance. Tye kitchen is in a terrible state not fit to serve food. The police are watching the pub due to drink drivers constantly drinking in the pub and the. Driving home. I urge people to proceed with caution

After having a lovely roast at the kings head we sat in their garden having a drink. Really unprofessionally the manager came over from the star inn and asked us to join them because ‘the drinks are cheaper’ Maybe but the live music is awful and your pub is empty - we now know why. So rude. Really unprofessional and an awful attitude to have towards another local business Absolutely no business coming from our large group who would have happily spent money behind the bar.

What can I say, a local pub that has returned to how it used to be. The menu had me drawn in, some different dishes to the norm. I made a choice in seconds on seeing Goat Curry - however goat was out, but the offer of mutton was gladly taken. The quality of the food was outstanding, and it takes a lot for me to say that. I eat out, to eat something I can't cook myself or have never tried, and appreciate when it exceeds my own ability. Theplace really is dog friendly, both adjoining tables had dog, just sad my dog didn't live a few more months to share the experience with me If you read an old review, based it on my previous review and give them another chance. Original Review for previous ownership: What can I say about the food - well for the few minutes I looked at it, and smelt it, it had all the potential of being a great meal. But as I had to insist that we leave, because of the dreadful treatment by a member of staff, I never got to taste the food. The tale more in more detail, could be a long read. After entering and finding a table, we waited 20 minutes, before we gave up due to thirst, and got the eye of said member of staff. That should have been the first sign, as it distinctively seemed we had put her out, and it was not a welcoming greeting or apology for the delay (I had noticed her look at our table from the bar three times), but drinks got ordered, as well as food, as we needed no longer to choose, and the message that it will be 30 minutes was relayed to us. Should add, that another member of staff had five times been to the area we sat in, but never once acknowledged us, or asked if we wanted drinks, or were ready to order. Well 50 minutes later, as I am one mouthful from finishing my drink and had decided enough is enough, I will go pay for the drinks and leave, the food arrived. When the waitress left the food, I made a point of mentioning the delay was really not acceptable, and that I had been about to leave as I had finished my pint. You would think this would have prompted the normally response when food is served, of 'anything else I can get you' but no. Then it got better, well worse, the original person to take the order, storms over, immediately aggressive, to which I said again the wait had been excessive, and the lack of updates along the way not helping, I then got accused of raising my voice, which then prompted me to raise my voice. That got a 'I will not be spoken to in that way' what way, that I was not impressed with the service. I stated I was happy to pay for the drinks and leave, if she so wished. That got a 'you will pay for the drink and food, all of it' yelled across the pub as she walked away. Moments later, the manager, who I assume was also the cook came over, he was friendly and apologetic, accepted we wanted to leave, and even refused my offer to pay for the drink. You might think that was the end of it, but no, there is more. The same lady, came back and lied in front of us, that twice she had asked if we had been ready to order. Even if she had, the fifty minutes was from the point the order was taken, so her logic is a good as her customer service. I am sure other events in her day, leading up to this played a part, well I hope so, but the worst experience ever encountered of hospitality.

I went to The Grovewood Bar and Restaurant yesterday for dinner and had an awful experience. Firstly, service was extremely slow and had to wait over half an hour to be served, let alone how long it took to receive our two very simple drinks. Secondly, I ordered a chicken caesar salad with no anchovies and after waiting a long time it arrived with anchovies. I gently complained and asked for another to be made with no anchovies and soon arrived a second salad, this time with no anchovies but also no chicken!!!!! How hard is it to make a chicken caesar salad correctly, especially for £19.50!!! I declined the salad as my mum had finished eating her meal at this point, and it was taken off the bill. I decided to order a dessert apprehensively after this poor experience because I was still hungry after having only a side of garlic bread for dinner. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding and after 40 minutes it had still not arrived. I queried how long it would be with one of the waitresses and she said she would find out. She soon came back stating that the ticket for the order must of got lost as there was no record of a sticky toffee pudding order and she said that the chef has now gone home. I was absolutely mortified and disappointed with the service and my experience here. The staff mentioned that another chef was around and would make the sticky toffee pudding right away. Around 5 minutes later it arrived, I must say the pudding was delicious and one of the best sticky toffee puddings I have ever tasted. Hence, why I have given the food 2 stars as a compromise. I am very disappointed with the poor service and professionalism at The Grovewood Bar and Restaurant and will absolutely not be returning.

My wife and I ate here as the place we were staying was a bit rough. Huge pub with relatively small bar area, it's become a place to eat for sure, more than hang out and have a drink. Having said that, the staff were very friendly, and the food was really good for a chain pub. The husband and wife (manager/chef) combo obviously works well. Plenty of seating outside in the garden, with an undercover area for smokers with heating. Drinks were reasonably priced, as was the food, so would definitely come back.

Have driven past the Talbot lots and always thought it looked like a nice country pub, so yesterday we decided to stop for a drink and a bite to eat. Inside is where it all starts to fall apart. The staff were miserable and I nearly fell over when I was asked for £36.80 for two coffees , a pepsi and two bowls of chips. We sat at a table and our coffee was served to us in paper cups and the pepsi came in a can with a lipstick stained filthy glass. As if that wasn't bad enough the chips came and they looked like cheap frozen supermarket chips and were so greasy as to be almost inedible. I made use of the toilets before we hit the road again and they were disgustingly filthy. The toilet seat was stained and there appeared to be what can only be described as pubic hair in the basin !!! The Talbot charge Michelin star prices but the experience leaves much to be desired- I shall not be returning.
