Some reviews of this hotel mention its requirement for an update but I see this as ambience. Its very laid back rather than hurried. I think the staff are some what shy rather than uninformative and go out of their way to answer ones questions and requests. It's a large place that does require some investment in decor but like most businesses in the village, it's doing it's best to recover from the recent pandemic. The food is very good and the cooked breakfast will keep you going all day.

An absolutely dire, run-down, dilapidated hotel. The whole establishment requires urgent attention and renovation. Window frames are rotting, some windows are broken and all are dirty. On entering the hotel you are greeted with an old musky smell which is quite unpleasant and it doesn’t get better. Two unrefundable nights set me back £346 which was an absolute ripoff! The blinds in the bathroom were broken (photo attached), the furnishings are basic and lack in style and quality. A bedside cabinet was only provided on 1 side of a double bed which is ridiculous! The back of the bedroom curtains were well-spotted, too, (photo attached). The whole experience was appalling! I had paid for B&B but on realising that the hotel has a shocking hygiene rating of 1, we ate elsewhere, (photo attached). The whole experience was awful and I would highly recommend that you steer well clear of this hotel. The biggest concern, which shocked me was that the compulsory hygiene rating sign on the front door was consistently covered-up by a temporary sign to obviously mislead, (photo attached). I did move this temporary sign to the side on multiple occasions, so that it could be seen, but each time it was covered-up again in no time. The manager obviously doesn’t want anyone to know how unhygienic the hotel really is. I would imagine that the Food Standards Agency would be very concerned with this deception.

We were on a week-long hiking trip through the Snowdonia region & spent two nights at The Royal Goat Hotel. The complimentary hot breakfasts were filling and satisfying, the dinner we had there was very good, and when we asked for bag lunches for our hikes, the manager arranged them in 15 minutes. Although the building has seen better days and could use some sprucing up, the point of staying here was to see the countryside, and the view from our bedroom window was stunning——a broad beautiful meadow with mountains in the distance. The staff were eager and friendly, and made us feel very welcome. Nice people, a pretty town, great stay.

Reopened in March with new ownership, has had some investment and needs more however, they need people through the door. The manager and staff are the stars here. Our standard double was spacious, very clean, comfortable king size bed new linen and towels. Paintwork and window frames need some tlc but, that will come in time. It’s a very dog friendly place, ideal if you want to take your pooch with you. Breakfast is excellent, a buffet style wide selection of continental and cooked item’s perfect for setting you up for a day out.

We (4 of us) ate at the Royal Goat Hotel on 27 April 2023. The food was very indifferent - served on cold plates one of which was chipped. Two of our party had curry which had very little sauce and was therefore very dry. A third member of our party had fish and chips which was tepid on arrival. Considering the poor standard of food we experienced it was very expensive and did not represent value for money. The biggest shock however was at the end of the meal we were told that they did not accept payment by card and that the bill would have to be settled in cash. It was only by luck that we managed to scrabble together sufficient cash to cover the cost of the meal.

A previous review said it was like faulty towers without the comedy, well they were right. The hotel feels dated and the operation a bit disjoint. The room I was in (38) sounded like the workings of the lift were in my room. The shower was a little tepid on more than one occasion. There was a bit of a smell of damp and signs of damp. There is only internet in the public areas. Don’t try and call them as the phone has been disconnected. Breakfast was very good and we tried one evening meal, that was acceptable although a small portion. There is parking on land opposite the hotel but this can get busy.

When reading through previous reviews i was sceptical to book this hotel but i am glad i did! Ive got to assume it has recently been taken over or something like that because our experience was absolutely nothing like the older reviews. The view from the room was amazing, beds were extremely comfortable and everything was so clean. The breakfast choice was amazing and also dinner menu nice too. The woman who seemed like the manager (sorry i didnt manage to catch a name) went above and beyond to make our stay amazing and even helped me out with a personal issue (screw being a woman)!! Only thing to improve on would be that every step we made round our room the door would rattle meaning we woke each other up through the night, but is completely understandable with older buildings. Overall, we will hopefully be returning at some point and we cannot thank the owners/managers enough!

Each meal then followed every 5-10minutes after, with the last meal arriving at 19:57. Hair was also found in the curry No fault of the bar manager at all, as he was polite and as helpful as he could be. Discussed the issue with the manager and she couldn’t give a valid reason for the delay. Unfortunately our family meal on holiday wasn’t at all what we expect and 100% will not be returning. Breakfast were great staff worked hard but management need to leadership and organise beer until they close. Would be nice to see them to explain and offer an alternative solution. Having decided to try the ascent of Snowdon just eight months on from having my bright knee replaced, we needed a place nearby to stay for a couple of nights. The name “The Royal Goat” tickled our imaginations so we plumped for this hotel - and we’re very glad we did. The staff were lovely and our room was perfectly adequate for the time we would be spending there! The most important aspect for me was the breakfast before heading off for our hike. It was gorgeous! Again, beautifully served by friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for us. After dinner, we were able to sit in the comfy lounge and have coffee and a pud. If we return to climb this lovely mountain we will certainly try for a room in The Royal Goat.

To put my review in context, this is the first time I have ever felt strongly enough to actually make an official complaint regarding a hotel stay. Having waited a week for a ridiculous reply from the Manager, whom offered me an insulting £50 for my inconvenience instead of the full refund I asked for, I thought I should now let others know a few facts. When booking, I filled in the special request section to ask if I could possibly have one of the firmer mattresses, as I suffer from a back problem on soft ones. On arrival, the receptionist had no note or idea of this request. He also said they had no taxi numbers, but that I should use the internet (we got barely 5 mins of WiFi reception over the 2 days, even by reception). This lack of WiFi makes life very difficult when there is no 4G or phone signal in the village. Wifi boosters??Upon entering our room (26 I believe), we were greeted by an overpowering stench. The mattresses were the softest I’ve encountered, so we sought another room. Room 20, although also with soft / old mattresses, had room for me to sleep on the floor and did not smell, so we took it. The big damp patches on the ceiling above where I was sleeping did ring alarm bells, but I thought nothing more of it until the following morning, when water formed a big bubble then proceeded to drop onto my bed. I informed reception on our way out and heard absolutely nothing back about it afterwards, and having not got any answers from reception about any work done / change of room, I entered to find the bubble gone, presumably drained, but nothing more. I moved furniture that evening so that I wasn’t sleeping below it again, for fear it would collapse in. Speaking of alarm bells, my son and I were woken at approx 11:45pm by the fire alarms, so proceeded outside to the front of the hotel. We waited with everyone else and not one member of staff came to speak to the customers assembled? After a wait, a customer came out and said he thought we could all go back in, but that he wasn’t staff, so don’t take it as gospel. The crowd and ourselves returned to our rooms, none the wiser, and again with absolutely no acknowledgement of the incident by staff the next morning either; very concerning that there seemed no verbal or physical protocols in place in the event of an actual fire. I don’t wish to go on, but the general state of repair of our room was poor. The hotel seems happy to charge a good fee to stay but clearly spends nothing on upkeep or modernisation. It was without doubt the worst hotel experience of my 44 years. The place constantly reminded me of Fawlty Towers, the humour of how bad is was being the only thing keeping my spirits up! I actually felt sorry for the staff, as they were clearly undertrained in all areas. The only positive I can take from the stay was the food, which was good. Maybe the chef should run the whole hotel?! Too many other things to mention, but will leave it there. No response a week on from my follow up email to the Manager, why am I not surprised...?

We had 2 nights here last week and after booking last minute I thought the pictures of the hotel looked nice. This just goes to show that you should not believe the pictures on here. Check-in was interesting, we are a family of 2ad + 2ch and we were already aware that we would have to have 2 separate rooms as i had had to book it this way, however when we checked in they gave us a key for just one room then have questioning seemed to not have the second room arranged? They did give us a second room but 2 floors apart? This hotel is obviously old and does seem to have that fusty old smell about it, my husbands room had serious leaks with water runnign down the walls - thankfully this was discovered on the morning we checked out as this was the only time it rained while we were there. The bathrooms are all very old and the carpets cleanliness is very questionable. We did not eat here in an evening as we were out most of the day and so ate out but the breakfast was good, a good selection of cooked and cold options. It is not the worst place that i have stayed, the staff we all friendly enough, the breakfast was good but there needs some serious money investing in fixing the pacthed up holes in the walls, the leaks through the ceilings and the carpets need a good clean if not replacing. My main gripe was the cost in which i had paid to stay and it really not being up to the standard i would have expected for that amount of money. Good area, nice little village and a good base for Snowdon related activities but we as a family would not return i'm afraid.

Ground floor area is clean and tidy, reception, bar etc. Only ate breakfast and that was very good. Most staff are great and work hard. 1 or 2 a bit odd though.Given room with out shower, smelled very bad. Attic room so banged head over and over. Spent first night in it then asked to change room, was told no so asked for money back and I would leave then the chef came out and gave me a new room ??? Strange.New room was very musty and not very clean. Capet was unbelievably filthy. Hated walking on it without shoes on. This hotel has been patched up time and time again and not very well.Fire alarm went off 3 or 4 times. On one occasion we were asked to evacuate, stood outside for a while, had a beer, went back in. No staff came out, no one checked or told us we could or could not return, so we eventually went back in. Then it went off again and we ignored it??? No explanation, nothing. God knows what would have happened if there were a fire!!On the whole I was glad to leave and would never use this hotel again, I definitely would not recommend it.smelly, not very clean rooms. Fire alarm issues. Run down, damp musty smells. Not got a lot going for it. Pity really as in a great spot. Some Staff were great.

The carpets are shabby, the room smelled and hotel is generally run down, in need of a refurb and it’s not at all as we hoped it would be given the price. The restaurant has an 80% hygiene rating, although the only redeeming factor of the entire place is the staff in the restaurant are really good. The hotel is completely overpriced and living on past glories. The manager / owner doesn’t want to know if a complaint is made. Avoid this place and use a local B&B instead, half the price and much better quality.

Our room due to a mix up was a Double bed when we wanted twin singles, we didn't make a fuss as it was only for one night. The decor i this hotel is need of serious updating. The carpets appeared old and dirty along the walkways. The bedroom ceiling wall paper was peeling and appeared to had had a leek at some point in time. The decor was old and stuck in the past and in serious need of redecoration, my friends also received there room as needing a serious make over. We went to the bar and were met by a miserable member of staff, who was obviously not happy to be there and just saw us as a hindrance. Overall the hotel needs a makeover. Previous reviews mentioned the state of the hotel. Well it may be slightly in need of an update but what it lacks in decor is more than compensated by the warmth of the reception, the attentive caring staff and the delicious food. It is a big grade 2 listed hotel in the Snowdonia National Park and will require very precisely measured renovation but it is a gem of a place that oozes character and history. We managed to book a last minute room at The Royal Goat Hotel the day before we intended on staying. With this in mind, we didn't have high expectations of our room, however we were very pleasantly surprised. Both the bedroom and en-suite were well presented, clean and had all the facilities one would need/expect. The room booking also included breakfast (cooked, continental or both) which fuelled us well for a day of exploring. The only down-sides to our stay were the lack of hash browns on the breakfast menu and the musty smell in the hallway; however we imagine that this is due to the history of the building and the smell wasn't an issue inside our rooms. The staff at the hotel were extremely polite, attentive and welcoming - we would definitely return to The Royal Goat Hotel and would recommend to others.

We tried to eat here but, not for the first time, we had to be content with a just drink. Maybe we were fortunate! Dear oh dear, on our experience you’d be either brave or stupid to stay here. This is a throw back to the 1970s. Just entering the reception area and vast and empty dining room told a tale. The menu looked the most expensive in the village but in any event there was an uncompromising sign explaining that the kitchen was closed until further notice. The barman claimed he was a novice and certainly seemed out of his depth with the smattering of customers. We have since been told he has been there many months. Oh well, of the two ales on offer, one was cloudy and the other undrinkable, the tills were “down” so I had to be marched to the reception desk to pay on a contactless card only to be told they don’t do contactless at reception after all. The person purported to be in charge certainly kept a low profile; no wonder!

The Royal Goat is a mix between the old and the new. Is it pure luxury , no it isnt . Is it a great place to crash down after a long day walking yes it is. The room had a lovely view down the main street and has everything we needed including a hair drier. The bathroom was all modern fittings and the room was of a good size. Breakfast was excellent with Fruit and Cereals in addition to a cooked breakfast. The breakfast hall appears to have had a lick of paint too. The Bar/lounge area has been revamped since our last visit and is now a nice relaxing place to have a night cap. The bar now offers an extensive Gin menu, and although we didn't eat there, the Chocolate Brownie was great! Overall we have stayed at this hotel before and definitely would do again.

As a party of 9 we saw a range of rooms in this location the family room was the biggest disappointment with a basic double bed/single bed set up the room showed signs of age with stained ceilings and tired facilities. My son was most disappointed in the tiny tv when other rooms in our party had lovely big ones.

The venue is lovely and the staff are very helpful and attentive. The Risotto was good, the Lasagne was good and the Thai Green Curry, but the chips were anaemic and there was a big difference in portion sizes of the starters. The cheese salad was starter size, but the Welsh rarebit wag BIG. Generally portion sizes were good, so some of us could not fit in a pudding!!

On arriving we were greeted by a friendly receptionist that was apologetic that the kitchen would not be serving food for the duration of our stay, this was not a problem for us and we were happy to eat in the village although it locally the options were limited. We took the tiny lift to our room, an average size but stuffy, with a stagnant smell and in need of redecoration. There was mold on the bathroom ceiling and the surfaces only had been cleaned. Breakfast the next morning was very delayed took 75 mins in total to with just one staff member serving and everyone seemed to arrive at the same time. They were however very friendly and the food was good. In conclusion it was over priced for the standard of accommodation it offered.

The food we ordered was terrible. The lasagne was dry, the pasta tough, the topping very brown and had obviously been reheated from an earlier (maybe lunchtime) service. One of my friends had ordered the risotto, and found that this was over-cooked and mushy. The only fresh part of their dish was the poached egg on top. The other friend had ordered braised beef. The understanding was that braised meant the meat should be soft and fall apart easily, but theirs was tough, probably as a result of microwaving leftovers from a lunchtime service. The food wasn't cheap (all three dishes were over £10 each) but, in best British style we said nothing, paid the bill and left vowing never to go back there again!

Four of us ordered food on a Sunday evening during peak season. The chips were raw in the middle, the garlic bread was a small baguette cut in half and covered in a sour tasting herb butter. The lasagne had been microwaved to an inch of its life and rendered inedible, not forgetting the Welsh rarebit main was the same small baguette the size as the garlic bread and toasted with a cheese type paste that had obviously doubled up a cement earlier in the day. Avoid at all costs.

Stayed at the hotel which was excellent. The menu in the restaurant was very limited and if you do not like meat you may be stumped. The food is best described as haute cuisine and was very well cooked and flamboyantly presented but after a days hiking or mountain climbing one small carrot and a small slice of parsnip along with the smallest amount of mashed potato (beautifully hidden under the meat) will not suffice. The breakfast by contrast was excellent with plenty of choice.

We popped in to The Royal Goat Hotel one afternoon in hope they could accommodate a table of 15 of us in the restaurant that very evening. Although they had a coach party arriving and dining they did kindly fit us in for an 8pm sit down. Although the table was ready a little late, it wasn't too long before we were seated and had the dining room to ourselves which was nice.Majority of us opted for the 2 courses for £25 menu, choosing a main course and a dessert. We hadn't pre ordered our meals like many places make you do for such a large group so it made a nice change to be able to chose on the night and much to our delight all options were still available on the menu too which also makes me very happy! Each and every one of us enjoyed our main courses, from the Fillet of Beef with brisket fritter to the Lamb flat bread and many other choices in between. The presentation of each meal was exquisite, perfectly cooked and we were looked after really well. Cracking work chef! There was a good choice of options from the kids menu to keep the littler people happy too. Desserts wise we were a teeny weeny bit disappointed, many of us had opted for the lemon curd cheesecake and we all agreed it lacked a lemon flavour and we would have preferred a bit more lemony oomph!Once again the presentation of all the desserts was faultless and the other dessert options chosen were very much enjoyed. Thanks for having us!

This was our base for the coach trip- first impression of this family run hotel was that it was dated and needing some TLC - rooms were adequate as were facilities for a few nights - bedding was dirty and stained and the sheets changed following our complaint however the pillow were not changed- lack of seating for after dinner relaxation with torn and tatty leather chairs and sofas - food NOT suitable for our party which consisted mostly of pensioners in their 70's and 80's - it was more art than food with minute portions of starters and deserts served in the most peculiar manner - although fresh and well cooked many of the party were unable to eat the mains as they were lacking proper cooked vegetables and the meat was heavy on wine/port - there was a noticeable amount of dud lighting in the hotel ( perhaps to disguise the food !! ) and several in our bedroom not working - also no fire instructions on the inside bedroom doors - fire exits on floors 2 and 3 led to an outside metal walkway with no exit down - no pillow protectors with heavily stained pillows - needless to say we would not recommend or revisit

We booked a table for dinner at the royal goat on Sunday 18th june. We were not told that the main testaurant was being refurbished. As it happened it was a beautiful day and we thought i might be nice to eat outside. Upon arriving at the venue we were continuously ignored by various members of staff. Eventually we approached a passing (waiter?) saying we had booked and wondered if we could eat outside. He kind of grunted a reply pointing at a dining room saying ' you'll have to ask there'.The room in question was appaling! A throwback to the 80's of rough cast plaster and ranch-style wood cladding. We were even more determined to eat outside, certainly not in that room.We waited at the bar to speak to someone but again there appeared to be no sense of urgency. At this point we left.I remember the place from years ago and it was awful, but having heard it was under new ownership i had high hopes.....sadly dashed. It is a place that could be a great country hotel / restaurant. I am also wawre that refurbishment does take time - rome was not built in a day.BUT poor ignorant servce is the very first step!!!I did contact the goat through facebook and via email to express my concerns but have not recieved a response so far - and that makes it worse again!!!

The food and service was amazing. There were two vegetarians and we had a choice that wasn't chilli or lasagne. I had a gorgeous risotto and my daughter had his roasted butternut squash dish that she said was very tasty. The men had steaks cooked exactly as order, good resonably priced wine and unusual deserts that were both good to look at and to eat. Service was excellent and all in all a lovely evening.

The hotel from outside and in looks tired and dated but it is clean and the staff welcoming and friendly. The plumbing in rooms needs urgent attention. We "stopped off" at this hotel on the spur of the moment a few years ago based solely on its name and had an excellent lunch. Promising ourselves that we would return and stay a night the next time that we were in the UK we managed to fulfill the promise last night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. This time we arrived about 3pm and managed an afternoon tea for 4pm which was just fantastic, the only complaint being that there was a touch too much chocolate! We had dinner, choosing only 2 courses, any more would have really stretched ourselves and retired to our lovely spacious room with what must have been a 12 foot high ceiling. In the morning we again indulged in the breakfast including the "full Welsh" and were more than satisfied with both the quality and quantity.

Arrived early, went to reception expecting to be told that we could leave our bags somewhere until check in time but the young man on reception actually went upstairs to see if our room was ready which it was. The room was a small double which is what I expected and was spotlessly clean, nice small bathroom, to, tea & coffee making facilities. The room overlooked the road and car park at the side of the hotel but it's not a busy road and I can honestly say that we were not disturbed by traffic noise at all. There was also a fab view over the fields to the hills/mountains beyond. The hotel is advertised as dog friendly and it certainly is, the staff were great, bringing some water for him during dinner and generally making a fuss of him. In saying this if you didn't know it was dog friendly you would never guess, everything was spotlessly clean and well maintained, there was no damp dog smell, or dog hairs on upholstery anywhere. We had our evening meal at the hotel after climbing Snowdon in the afternoon, the steak and chips were delicious, we did feel that the portion size was a little small especially after such a strenuous afternoon, the menu was also a little limited, but really delicious food. Breakfast was also good, lots of variety of cereal, bread, pastries and cooked breakfast. Beddgelert is a lovely little village, perfectly situated to explore Snowdon. The Royal Goat is just on the edge of the village in a convenient location with parking. It is a lovely dog friendly hotel, good food, lovely staff, it feels like a family run hotel who really care about you enjoying your stay. We are planning our next visit already.

Yes, it could definitely do with refreshing; I believe this has begun and is ongoing - but it is SPOTLESSLY clean and the breakfasts were fantastic; piping hot and good quality food. One waiter in particular was exceptionally efficient. He was enthusiastic and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Our family room was large and well laid out, with a view to die for and the bedclothes were immaculate. We pre ordered packed lunches for the following day, which were mostly excellent (although my daughter said her tuna sandwich was - little too moist!).
