Great atmosphere, spacious and it has a pool table. A bit of a wait to get our drinks. The veranda has plenty of tables and a great view of Lynn Efrnwy. Beware the fag butts bowl though. It has a food menu that fits with the venue.

Fantastic new years eve at the Tavern. Atmosphere, ambience, lighting and staff were brilliant. The fireworks at midnight were amazing. The bar waitress dressed in white was especially hard working and did a great job. Well done lake vyrnwy hotel!!!

Lake Vyrnwy is one of my go -to places with guests. Having previously had lovely lunches on the tavern terrace, I took four family members there last weekend. The only food on offer was 'vegan pasties'. We were directed to the hotel restaurant where we ended up ordering very over-priced and inadequate tapas.

So disappointed! Turned up today for lunch- I had seen on the facebook page for the hotel that they are now serving paninis etc for lunch from 12pm. Considering the tavern haven't served food since Covid times, I was looking forward to eating here again. I asked a young girl who was behind the bar in the tavern if they were serving sandwiches/paninis, and she answered with 'no, we only do sausage rolls and pasties, if you want lunch you'll have to go to the restaurant down the road'. This was while she had her back towards me the whole time- beyond rude. So disappointed as we are locals and have eaten numerous times at the tavern and it was a favourite of ours. I think the fact that there was only one couple in the whole tavern says it all. Safe to say this place has gone down hill massively, and don't really see the point in opening the tavern if all they can serve is a drink and a poxy sausage roll if you're lucky!

The receptionist showed us to a delightful ground floor room. A lovely room with beautiful bedding, upholstery and furntiture . The ensuite shower room was immaculate with lots of fluffy towels and toiletries . There was also a well stocked tea and coffee tray and a large TV . Outside the room was a snug with a well stocked library and a selection of board games . It was an ideal place to sit with a drink . There was also a lovely courtyard with outside tables and chairs for use in better weather . We chose to eat in the restaurant and the food was superb. Top quality ingredients and the meat was of high quality and plentiiful . We could not eat everything served. We assured the waitresss our meals were both delicious but the portion size was overwhelming. She told us that if we visited again, the children's portion is availaable for smaller appetites . That was a good idea . The menu informed customers of the provenance of their ingredients , organic, free range , local and delicious . Suppliers were named . After a very comfortable night's sleep , we had breakfast in the morning room. Again , everything was perfect . The cold selection buffett was very well stocked with various cereals, yoghurts , fruits and pastries. The subsequent hot , full Welsh breakfast was delicious . Again, quality ingredinets were served . The bacon and sausage were of exceptional quality .. Coffee was also very good , served in individual cafetieres . Both parts of the breakfast were included in the room price. The scrambled eggs with smoked salmon on the next table looked very generous, too Throughout our stay, the staff were very professional, enquirng about our comfort but not over fussy . We will return !!! NB The inn is close to local attractions , gardens and a steam railway.

Visited the so called”tea rooms” on a wet and windy day!! Ordered vanilla lattes and scones. The scones were edible but really hard and the lattes were so sweet that one of our party of two had to order tea instead. £16.00 for the privilege and we weren’t charged for the tea!!! It was a rip off !!! Hotel prices reign again !!!!!!

This is the only thing that let's the Lake Vyrnwy Hotel down. The service was appalling and super slow; people got served before us who had arrived later and we were the only people who had to order at the bar - everyone else was waited on.The options for vegan (non-existant) vegetarian (two options that were the classic veggie burger and veggie lasagne -really??!!) and gluten free were really poor.We settled on a veggie burger and a need burger both of which were completely overdone. The chips could have been really nice Jed they actually been cooked all the way through and the salad with the coleslaw was the only saving grace. We refused dessert and actually had our meals taken off of the bill for the hotel. The good news is that there is a new menu on the way and this will have more options. It annoys me that chefs can be so lazy with veggie options -there are so many amazing things you can do with fresh vegetables and there really is no excuse to serve up unimaginative dishes. And please for the love of god, just provide a gluten free bun to go with the burgers; seriously, not difficult at all.Unless theenu has changed dramatically, we won't be back but we will be going back to the lovely Vyrnwy hotel.

Staying at the hotel and having lunch in their Tower Restaurant, we decided to have a lighter dinner in their Brasserie adjacent to the main hotel. Despite seeing many of the staff that served us at lunchtime in the Tower, we found this venue completely different. The Brasserie was quite busy for a Sunday night and the staff looked run off their feet. As we entered and stood by an unstaffed bar area, nobody seemed to take much notice of us.After several minutes we decided to walk round to what seemed the main seating area. All very busy and not obvious what you had to do. It seems you have to line up at the bar to get your table, then the same for your drinks and food. All a bit chaotic on this occasion and not the relaxing time we were looking for.The food was ok and eventually the service with the dishes seemed to improve matters. As a bonus we got a window table with some lovely views.

My wife and I called in for a drink and a snack but were very disappointed. On entering the brasserie, although the place was almost deserted there were dirty cups and plates on several tables with plenty staff pottering around. We ordered one pot of tea and a latte coffee and one portion of jam & cream scones between us. When the drinks arrives the tea cup was dirty and my wife had to ask for spoons. When the waitress returned she said they only had one and we would have to share! I will not stir my tea with a coffee spoon so when the scones arrived I had to use the handle of the knife. The latte was only luke warm. Although it was clear we were sharing the scones we were not offered tea plates or an extra serviette. The scones were dry and tasteless and were only made edible by the jam which was quite nice. At no point did anyone check if everything was ok. Had they done so I would have made my disappointment clear to him or her rather than use Trip Adviser. As so many people confirm in their reviews, the views are stunning but you can't live on those alone!!

Whereas the food is quite good and the service generally very good, it is impossible not to notice how unclean some of the areas are eg there were squashed chips on the floor under our table. The chair next to me had old food stains, the window cill needed a wipe down and the wooden surround of the grate was covered in dust that had been there some time. It needs a thorough cleaning and not just a table wipe. I

After visiting the beautiful Lake Vyrnwy we decided to try Lake Vyrnwy Hotel Brasserie for Sunday Lunch. The view from the restaurant is the only impressive thing. We queued at the bar to get drinks and place an order. The staff were very slow. The menu is very limited and there was no reflection of local cuisine, I would have expected Welsh Lamb to be on the menu. Our meals came out after a short wait. My husband ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the Sunday lunch. The fish was inedible, it was very grey in colour and full of fat. I had pork that came with inedible crackling (soft and chewy), roast potatoes that were like rocks and generally not tasty food. We were not happy and looked for staff to complain. There were no staff other than behind the bar where there was a long queue. We had to queue to pay for this terrible meal. Staff were not interested in diners or were so busy, they had no time to listen or take notice of returned food. We were going to book a stay at the hotel as the area is beautiful, but based on this experience, we will not be returning to this hotel.

We visited for a family birthday and as Mum had been ill we really wanted it to be an enjoyable and special experience. This was on Monday 22nd October 2018 at 1.30 pm. The Tavern was cold and draughty and staff behind the bar were dis interested. Our young waiter tried hard but was on his own. Firstly two of our party ordered Chicken caesar salad as a first course. Problem 1. No chicken available on the whole menu. Problem 2 .Caesar salad that arrived was merely iceberg lettuce and stale bread croutons. No dressing, no parmesan, no anchovies. In fact not a caesar salad at all! Main courses unfortunately just as awful. Over cooked burger, Cold lamb and vegetables,a risotto with prawns and sun dried tomatoes....except hardly any prawns, no sundried tomatoes, just tomato puree. My sons Tuna sandwich was a disgrace..thin bread not much filling and as for the seasonal berries to accompany it..we counted 4 tiny redcurrants...! All in all a very disappointing experience and one that cost a lot of money and left a family regretting the choice of The Tavern at Lake Vrnwy for this family celebration. Maybe the chef does not work on Mondays because that is the only explanation for the terrible food we had!! A very disappointed customer.

We visited the restaurant as we are staying at the hotel. Sadly, we left disappointed by the food. I had the vegan menu, which was possibly one of the worst vegan menus I have ever eaten from. The starter was simply four bits of cauliflower, a few bits of cucumber and some candied pecans with oil. It was quite tasteless and not up to the standard I would have expected from such a nice hotel. The vegan main was some kind of vegetable 'spaghetti', which turned out to be soggy noodles with a mixture of peppers, tomatoes and leeks thrown on top of it with no sauce whatsoever. The dessert, which was a brownie with raspberry sorbet, was the only part of the meal I enjoyed, and was actually quite nice. My boyfriend ate the wild boar and chorizo burger and was left disappointed as it arrived with no cheese, onions or any other extras you would expect to find in a burger. It came with a bit of lettuce in the burger, chips and some cress. Overall, we would not visit again as the vegan menu was uninspiring and the food was not value for money.

Food was very disappointing the staff didn't seem to know who ordered what and I was actually gob smacked at there attire . Not a prude but for a Hotel with a reputation AND the only one in this area to let them walk around serving with skirts smaller than my napkin I actually wanted to give it back so it made them longer and more appropriate . Just makes the whole thing cheap with nasty food bland but charged to much for it as it's the Hotel . Find the tea rooms down the road more exciting cheaper nicer food and they were dressed . Stupendous views from the Tower Tavern Restaurant. Good enough food. But, really! If the menu offers a steak at £9.50, surely: a) chips or similar could come with it, or b) the waiter might enquire if the diner would like a side dish to accompany. Also, why not ask the diner how well done she would like the steak to be?If the steak turns out to be largely inedible, then perhaps express a little surprise, or regret, or even an apology. Perhaps offer a replacement. The offered, minuscule desert was not entirely adequate as a replacement. Side-salads are best prepared on the intended day of consumption. Not sure if ours was. When a dish is brought to the table, why then have the appropriate cutlery arrive a little while later, as if an after-thought?If there are trays of condiments and sauces available on the bar, why not offer the (temporary) use of these to the diners? When bringing the bill, and the diner immediately places a debit card on top of it, why come back some time later, enquire how the diner would like to pay, then go and find the card machine? Not at all busy, adequate staff numbers, nice enough staff. Just not joined up. Perhaps a little more supervision, or training?

The food is OK but not very imaginative and in many ways rather plain. I don't like the trendy thing to do these days with having your burger put on a bread board rather than a plate. A bit pricey too for what seems a limited menu. That said; the food may be a bit dull but not dull enough to stop my coming by again and bringing my friends with me.

It was noticeable in the main hotel too.The only thing that was special was the lake view as usual. The food was ok but overpriced, the beers the men did enjoy. We were there for 3 nights and another night used the hotel restaurant for an evening meal. The menus are similar and not as inspiring as they used to be, Staff were varied and the service varied also as in good to bad service depending who was there. The lovely slim dark haired waitress was a delight, some of the waiters were not so.they were not at tentative at all.Lovely log fire and nice views.

We had a delicious lunch in the Tavern which was divine. My husband said it was the best pub lunch he'd ever had. ( to be absolutely fair- we're not difficult to please!) We opted for a hot roast pork ciabatta with sweet potato fries and a side salad (£7.50 each). They were absolutely delicious. The waiter Chris was really friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the ales for sale. The view from the Tavern is just gorgeous so worth getting there early. There's a balcony for outdoor eating on warmer days. The log fire was burning which made it really cosy.

August Bank Holiday Sunday evening having booked at the Bistro for a meal, called at the hotel for pre-prandial drinks. The lounge was full of guests, the barman was vacuuming!! Totally unacceptable! He was not very helpful. Went into the Bistro, the waitress was obtained drinks, no problem, ignored us, problem!!! No acknowledgement whatsoever!!. The Coke was flat and should never have been served, we complained and it was replaced. The food was substandard, chips, old and cold, presentation left a lot to be desired. My lamb was dry, my husband and a friend's fish was dry, my daughter's burger was not brilliant. The bill was £93. I don't mind paying, but this was robbery. I wrote to Mr Rosser, who was more concerned with what they are planning for the future. Said they were short staffed, the reason for the barman vacuuming was because a wedding party from the previous night and left late, bearing in mind this was 6 p m on the Sunday evening the breakfast crumbs were being vacuumed.

Food was ok, had ham,egg and chips, the only downside was there was so much ham it put me off, three massive slices wasxway too much, bit pricey , we also never had a table checkto see if our meals was ok, i had to fetch our own sauces as we was not asked if we wanted any, which in most pubs you do, View was lovely over the lake,Staff were not friendly at all , we were served by Anita she never smiled once, doesn't cost anything for a friendly smile,

Recently had Sunday lunch here with friends. The view from the terrace made the visit worth while. Shame the same couldn't be said about the food. I had the salmon which was sadly lacking, the salmon was served on a spoonful of couscous which was little more than a snack not a main meal. More couscous and some green beans would have made it more acceptable. The Sunday roast was bland with wafer thin slices of meat. Wouldn't bother eating here again.

Part of the Lake Vyrnwy hotel. You get some great views from the terrace but there's not a lot to be said about the interior which is fairly drab and uninspiring. If it hadn't been sunny we would probably have gone elsewhere but we were lucky and managed to get a terrace table. The furniture has seen better days but did the job. There's a reasonable menu but unfortunately the food did not meet expectations. I opted for the chowder which arrived minus the haddock and with sliced white bread and not the crusty bread advertised. Despite this it was a reasonable consistency and tasted quite good. My wife went for a ham wrap which arrived minus the special mustard. This was quickly rectified but shows the lack of attention to detail. On the positive side there were a couple of decent beers. Not sure I would go again or recommend to friends.

ate with family of 4.. Average food and drinks and the surroundings inside were in need of some tlc..walked through pub bit (cheery local lads having a drink) to what looks like a cafe with balcony over looking lake. I love Lake Vrnwy and it is beautiful but didn't want to sit outside with the smokers so sat by window. Service wasn't the best on the day we were here..shame really. Beautiful setting and more could be done to pull people in to enjoy it. Worth a stop off for a drink for now.

Have now eaten in the Tavern/Brasserie three times. Very poor quality, steaks tough (waitress said it would have been more tender if I had ordered well-done as opposed to rare!). Shoulder of lamb arrived 8 mins after ordering ( assured that it was freshly cooked) - so clearly reheated with dry/crunchy edges. Nonchalant staff, management appear not too care - captive audience as no where else within 15mins. Fact is that without the view this place would not survive. Biggest tip? Buy a pint - watch the sunset and drive the 30mins to the next village for supper.

Absolutely fabulous views but the lounge bar feels rather dated. Staff friendly and helpful. The food is quite expensive for what is essentially pub grub. Frozen oven chips would be better than the limp and greasy ones they served! However, I'd come back time and time again for those awesome views.

Wow...firstly this place has such a wonderful view, it's a beautiful place. The Tavern is the pub lounge attached to Lake Vyrnwy Hotel. We had a table by the window and after getting some drinks from the bar we sat back to admire the view and choose something to eat from the menu. We ordered the haddock chips & mushy peas and the sugar baked ham egg & chips, both meals came to the table nicely served by a lovely attentive waitress and were hot and absolutely delicious. After our meal we took a drive around the lake, pulled into a layby and went down to the waters edge. This is a gorgeous place for day out...go and enjoy :-)

It is a great shame that a non-resident can only eat lunch at The Tavern rather than at the Hotel, as we are told that the hotel is very good. The Tavern is not. On the positive side, the views are wonderful and the staff very pleasant but the slightly tatty decor and dated picnic bench tables plus poor quality food let it down. To be fair, the members of our party who had the butternut squash soup and the chicken liver pate were satisfied with their choices apart from the bread which was not as described in the menu but those of us who had the Welsh Rarebit and the cawl were very disappointed. The Welsh Rarebit did not look appetising and nor was it- even the chips were poorly cooked- and the cawl was thin and fairly tasteless and not a bit like the 'real thing'. Very disappointing and we won't be returning.

We went to this hotel on recommendation. My husband and friend ordered sandwiches from the menu and were not disappointed. However I ordered the mussel and smoked haddock chowder with crusty white bread. When it arrived I noted that the bread was a thin sliced white loaf cut in to squares, not as stated on the menu. On tasting the soup I could not taste or find any haddock. When asked if I enjoyed the meal I replied that it was lacking haddock only to be told that other customers had complained about this. My husband commented on this when he paid only to be told that it should have had some haddock in it. I was not pleased with either answer and would not make the effort to drive so far again.

Don't just go to the Tavern book next door in the hotel for a Sunday lunch and you wont be disappointed with the food or the view. There was ten of us and we had a near perfect visit. The food was excellent, the wine selection was very good but the drinks order did go astray and we did not get all that we ordered even though they did try and charge us for it. Not good for business as we all know that there is a good profit to be made from Gin and Tonics which three of us wanted but never had. Also sorry to say that one waitress had a bad case of body odour which really was not nice and one waiter did not understand English. Come on guys pull your staffs socks up and then you could be perfect.

My husband and I ate here on Tuesday. We had been visiting the lake (a very windy wet day - so not the perfect weather to appreciate the views) and decided to pop in for a late lunch. We arrived at 5 mins to 3 and they stopped serving at 3 .....so we just made it, but staff were happy to take our order. In fact we were sat behind another family who were already in the middle of their meal and they were still asked at half 3 if they wanted dessert - they did. So full marks for customer service - many places would start to get a bit irritated if they were still serving 45mins after the official stop time.As we didn't want to take advantage we just had a main meal instead of a starter as well, and both ordered the lamb shank. It was a good size and very tender. The red cabbage relish was delicious and the root vegetable mash was nice but needed extra seasoning. The dining room itself was nicely decorated with a lovely fire to warm us up after the wind and rain. The adjacent room is set up like a small cosy little pub. All very lovely and not what you expect as part of a large hotel. The view was beautiful despite the sideways rain and black clouds - and we decided that we shall definitely add the Lake Vrnwy Hotel to our 'to do' list next year. I think in the spring or summer it wil be breathtaking. I love the idea of waking up and having walking trails on your doorstep.

Have eaten here before and the cawl is fabulous but today fancied a change. An oggie is a pasty and it came with onion gravy so was ordered with chips instead of mash. The chips were the only decent part of the meal. It too 20 minutes to arrive and the "pasty" was burnt all over the pastry. As we did not want to wait any longer for our food I tried to eat it. The pastry was cooked through but was black over all of the outside. The inside - well, the vegges were plentiful and tasty but where was the meat? It was on the menu as 100% black beef. I's sure it was 100% but where was it? There was approximately 1/2 oz of mince in there. The onion gravy was thick and dark but tasteless. As I was very hungry I ate most of it but couldn't face the last part of the pastry. Very, very disappointed in what is usually a nice restaurant to eat in. The waiter agreed on our payment that my meal was burnt but offered no compensation - will have to be extremely hungry to go here again in spit of the delicious cawl

Visited the tavern for lunch today only to find a average meal at top prices. I had the auger finished ham with free range eggs and hand cut chips. The ham was at fridge temperature which then chilled the eggs placed on top of it. The chips were hand cut but still frozen and over cook - they shattered when I put my fork into them. Not some where I will visit again.

The stunning view of the lake and surrounding countryside is the best thing about the Tavern brasserie. Rather dismal decor, wooden tables and cheap paper napkins do not warrant the prices of the "pub" type menu. We had a table by the window but the constant stream of people going backwards and forwards to look at the view caused a terrible draught every time the door was opened - tip don't sit in the window (but then you won't get the view).I had the salmon fishcake which had more bread than fish (although the caper sauce was very good). Main course I had the chicken caeser salad but the chicken was very dry and tasteless. Didn't bother with a pudding and the cost for 4 of us with wine was £120. Our waitress was efficient and friendly but I thought the food leaned more towards quantity than quality.

What a great spot! We had a great visit to this secluded pub on the beach. There are two places you can park, at the Golf Club car park with a cost of around five pounds through an app, from here you walk over the golf course on the path/road to the pub. Or, you can park further down on the National Trust car park and walk along the beach to the pub. We parked at the golf club, walked over the golf course and then walked back along the beach and back up to the golf car park. The beach walk is great. There was a DJ on when we went and that gave it a good atmosphere outside we did not sit inside as the weather was OK. Food was available although we did not order anything. Friendly staff who served at the outside bar. Be careful of the closing times as that can be early if there is not an event on.

Meifod Country House is perfectly positioned for Caernarfon, Anglesey, the mountains and the coast. It’s a lovely old building, extremely comfortable and the staff are delightful. The house is decorated to a high standard and the antique furniture is beautiful. Tripadvisor needs updating as there is no restaurant at Meifod House. The only food available is breakfast - standard help yourself continental and what looked like well cooked hot breakfast if requested (we didn’t have cooked breakfast). We only saw and met two staff during our stay, both of whom looked after us very well - nothing was too much trouble. Our bedroom (Brymer), overlooks the field to the side of the property. The bed is enormous and very comfortable. The bathroom is huge, with a double ended bath and shower attachment attached to the taps (no actual shower). Good big towels, high quality bed linen, and a fridge in the room. When we return to the area we will stay here again. I recommend it highly.
