Amazing friendly welcome from landlady and locals alike. Roast dinner was outstanding especially as we arrived after they had officially closed the kitchen, they were more than happy to ensure we left with full tummy’s! Food was of excellent home cooked quality. Range of beers/ciders also good. Thank-you and we plan to return!

Food was average at best, my scampi was overcooked, my son had eggs which had very anaemic looking yolks and he told me after we had left the pub that his ham was crunchy! Considering the price which was approximately £15 for scampi, chips and peas, I was disappointed. Another issue was the cheap quality of the table sauces, the ketchup had the consistency of red and tasteless water. If you want to charge these prices then the quality and standard of the food needs improving. Go to the Quicksilver down the road as the food is much better quality and the prices are more reasonable.

Staff were amazing as usual and the atmosphere was also the perfect balance. Highly recommend coming here

I cannot rate the Royal George highly enough. A very friendly greeting welcomed us, it was warm and cosy and we were shown to a delightful round table with comfortable chairs and enough room between tables to feel like it was just us. There were some quirky lamps and objects which added to the charm of the place. The menu was concise but gave enough food for thought, then there was the specials menu, oh my! I have dietary requirements and an order from the specials menu was amended to suit my needs and I had the first restaurant quality meal I have eaten in many years. It was delicious, looked amazing and would not have been out of place in a magazine photo. All the meals on our table looked amazing; there was not a scrap of food left at the end and we were so full we could not even look at the desert menu. We will be going back!

I went to the Christmas dinner and bingo, I have to say that I was not impressed, the tables were decorated with a plastic cloth, no napkins, we had to ask, the turkey was cold. My friends and I booked a table at the RG for a midweek meal and drinks. Booking by telephone nice and easy. Car parking plentiful, beer garden nice too. The bench we were sat on was broken though. Some garden games to enjoy also. Ordering drinks took forever, with only one person behind the bar (who was on the phone for a while taking bookings), except a young member of staff who was unable to serve due to age. Drinks were EXPENSIVE too! I have never paid over a fiver for a pint outside of London or events etc. £5.10 for the only draught cider, which was a lovely pint though. Food ordering was easy at the bar, paying upfront too. I decided to choose the Chicken Platter; my friends tried to warn me that it would be too much for me, especially being one of the most expensive things on the menu... it was not. It consisted of 2.5 onion rings (that came apart when cutting, so you eat batter then pure onion..), 2 small cajun chicken bites, 2 small salt & pepper chicken bites, approximately 7 (seven!) chunky chips, 2 chicken drumsticks, slaw, chilli jam and a garden full of salad, so much salad!! I normally get full very easily, but I left RG just as hungry! It doesn't help that it was served on a wooden paddle-like 'plate', meaning things fell off the side all the time. Food was ok, just not enough of it. There was also another issue with the food that I won't go into, as it was a genuine accident. We ordered more drinks and moved indoors. There was a quiz on in the main area, very quiet though - which didn't help as we were being quite loud in the side room to be honest! One of our group had an enjoyable dessert, another asked for an Irish coffee, but they did not have the facility to serve one (despite selling both coffee and Baileys..). Expensive alcohol, not the greatest food, mixed service. Will give it a miss in the future.

Disappointing Sunday lunch today. I had the beef which looked good but unfortunately was very chewy. Roast potatoes were hard. The veg was nice however the portion sizes were shocking, Cali cheese and peas came out in a small bowl and that was for four of us! I spotted a table of two being served the same amount so I’m unsure how they worked that out? We did end up asking for more which wasn’t a problem. Homemade trifle for pudding, which was tasty…the whole 3 tablespoons of it.

Feb.2022 - Once again I meet up with retired publicans - those with the discerning tastes and an assiduous attitude to where and when they dine and sup. We three are all of a like mind, requiring perfect pints, salubrious viands and an engaging atmosphere. Invariably, I choose an establishment on the Cask Marque Ale Trail, knowing at least one element of our fastidious requirements will be met. The Inn is a traditional 16th century Somerset 'coaching inn' with inglenooks, log fires, slate floors low ceilings and oak beams aplenty. Probably, internally, it hasn't changed much from the original, being haphazard in layout. The beer, Palmers Copper 3.7% ABV, from Palmers Ales Bridport, is brewed in one of Britain’s oldest breweries and has been since 1794. The only thatched brewery in the UK, and the ale was excellent and well deserving the Certificate of Accreditation. Our lunches also received no complaints other than the size of the portions received by my guests. With apologies to the chef they left their plates only partly depleted. My Steak & Ale pie, was also of generous proportions and also excellently presented and I could have stopped eating - but it was too good to leave. OK- call me a glutton. The only downside of the visit and it wasn't really the fault of the establishment, but it did impact on our stay, the tiresome noisiness of a toddler at the next table - it made comfortable conversation very difficult. We were however, all impressed with the place on our first visit and will do so again. But be warned - if you want to have a 'sit' ith the Gents loo - it's best if you have very short legs. Just saying.

Disappointing. A sandwich made with white sliced (packet) bread, no choice given for brown or whole meal. As an additional side, the chips were barely cooked but tasted of fish so probably cooked in fryer that had been used for fish. Unfortunately inedible for the extra £4 paid and although complaint received courteously by staff, no refund offered. Such a shame for what could be a great local village pub.

I’m slightly bemused by the other reviews on here. We booked for dinner when visiting the area and am sorry to say the food was awful. I had a fish burger which was two thin fish cakes deep fried to completely dry them out served in a thin soggy burger bun. Then someone thought it would be a good idea to add a couple of rashers of bacon or in this case fat! The chunky chips would have been great if they were cooked. My husband had the steak pie which was a large vol-au-vent with a steak filling and cooked broccoli that managed to still be frozen in the middle! However, the lady who was front of house was just lovely, so friendly and when we mentioned the food to her she offered us a free desert, which was much appreciated. They did have a family fun day so maybe they were over stretched. We won’t be returning.

Surprised to see a review criticising this lovely pub. I was also at the Greg Agar gig on Saturday with my Husband and some friends and had the best night I have had since lockdown. I thought the lads in question were good fun and well behaved and added to the atmosphere. Also with restrictions lifted it wasn’t table service and we also went back and forth to the bar. It is a pub after all and not a cabaret event. The landlord works very hard and sat to have a quick chat with some regulars surely you can’t begrudge that.

Lovely location, very attentive staff*, massive portions (had the Piggy Platter that contains, among pork delights actual Pork Scratchings! Son's burger was like a sky scraper). * Was very impressed that they asked, on the phone when booking and again when taking order, whether anyone in party had specific allergens. Then they served a wonderful dessert that consisted of dairy-free ice cream and milk-free sticky toffee pudding. This pub serves Amstil and Bier Moreti - even better! Soup was a little strange but tasty - just was more of a thick paste rather than the nice watery texture I'm used to... but overall I'd recommend this place and my family were very happy. There's a large car park round the back, just as weĺl because this pub is on a main road through a (delightful) village just 3 miles outside of Yeovil.

To be honest, the food was actually really nice. The calamari and prawns were good and so was bread mezze starter. However, you might be in for a nasty shock if you order the garlic mushrooms. We booked The Royal George after sampling a takeaway during lockdown - which wasn’t good either, already reviewed that - and thought we’d give it a second chance. Booking was easy via messenger. On arrival we followed the one way system and entered the pub. We were queuing for almost ten minutes at the entrance (which had a horrid draft due to open doors) as there was one person serving... and he was halfway through a meal on his lunch break, poor lad! We were shown to our table, which was between the open front door and kitchen, so a very busy and cold place to sit. We were given one menu between three of us for some reason and had our drinks and food order taken. The drinks were promptly delivered to the wrong table and when they were hurriedly brought over she spilt about a centimetre of my pint all over the table.. no apology or offer of top up, nor did she clean it. Our food (chicken burger, beef burger and kids burger) was average at best, with few chips accompanying them. The onion rings side were pretty poor too. I left over half of mine which is unusual! We didn’t bother with a dessert - we were cold and fed up, so paid the bill and left. The food was cheap due to the fact we used the government scheme, I’d have been gutted paying full price! More attentive staff and more staff in general may have helped, but we will not be giving it another try. Had hoped it would be much better.

I came here as the pics I had seen looked good and tempting! Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectation. Luckily it was a part of the eat out to help out scheme so was half the price. This was just as well as I would most definitely not have paid full price. One of us ordered burger and chips. It was quite a small portion for what should have been £18....yes that's correct, £18 (pic included)! The burger was home made but so incredibly dry which ruined it. The chips, however, were amazing. One of us had the salt and pepper platter. Another dish that would have been £18 and was not worth it. We didnt complain as we had only paid half price and it wasnt awful just average. Maybe its because they were busy. Maybe it deserves another shot. But maybe we would leave it a while til we try again. I would suggest to them however, that they ensure their Covid measures are on par with other establishments. Yes there was hand sanitizer around but people were not staying at their tables and were milling about...including right up to our table, which didn't make us feel incredibly safe in all honesty

For what we paid, seeing as it was half price, it was nice. I’m not sure I would have been satisfied if it was full price. The meats on the platter were tasty, but the chips were only just cooked. Seeing as it was busy, it was understandable. However the chicken burger has so much spicy sauce, even tho it said ‘hickory’, just ruined the meal. I couldn’t enjoy it due to the heat, and the bun underneath was soggy from so much sauce. On the menu it said gerkins, but none to be seen. Just needs the finishing touches!

Very easy to order over messenger, lovely polite staff on arrival and we were away within 5 minutes. The meal itself was quite disappointing. Some items just didn’t taste of anything, let alone S&P. The boys that did were lovely though. I’d say well over half was bland, with the remaining being nice and edible. Very little meat on most ribs too. I’m gutted as it smelt amazing, just lacked overall taste. Not a bad price really, may try the RG again to see if it was a one off.

We live close by and have never visited before. We saw the takeaway Piggy Platter advertised so got in touch and ordered. We were very impressed with the food, really good quality meat with the most amazing chutney! We can’t wait to visit again when this is all over for a nice cold pint in the beer garden and to try and some more of the menu

We saw pictures of their Easter Egg cheesecake desserts on Facebook. Messaged to see when they would be available as FB post said in the run up to Easter. They replied that would be next week but if we wanted to or order for this week we could.. so we did !! We shared the chicken hanging kebab as a shared plate for ‘starters’ before our Cheesecake filled Eggs came out. Absolutely Yum and a take out box as they were too much.Nice friendly proper country pub with fab food and super service.

I had been waiting for ages to come here after seeing their Facebook page and all the yummy food that they post! Wow and boy did it not disappoint! The food was amazing! It is the perfect pub grub menu that you could ask for with a lot of variety and everything is amazing. Big portions to fill you up and just so yummy! Highly recommend the kebabs that they do and the salt and pepper chips are addictive! The staff are also so lovely and it’s a great atmosphere. Will definitely be returning!

This is a nice little country pub, rustic and rural. It serves really good home cooked food. The Sunday lunch is large with 5 potatoes, cauliflower cheese, parsnips, carrots, broccoli and red cabbage! The pork was delicious and Yorkshire pudding comes with all meats! Plenty of lovely thick gravy and apple sauce completes the meal-fantastic!

Great everything. Lovely atmosphere. Just a little cramped. Alot in a small space. Would 1000% recommend though. Very nice. Xxx

The pub is under new management and so new menu, staff, decor too. We received a warm welcome in the cosy bar area. The draught beer was excellent and so many tempting dishes on the menu. We enjoyed our lunches and will be back soon. So lovely to have a local getting everything right. Their hard work and dedication is shining through. Thank you!
