I’m slightly bemused by the other reviews on here. We booked for dinner when visiting the area and am sorry to say the food was awful. I had a fish burger which was two thin fish cakes deep fried to completely dry them out served in a thin soggy burger bun. Then someone thought it would be a good idea to add a couple of rashers of bacon or in this case fat! The chunky chips would have been great if they were cooked. My husband had the steak pie which was a large vol-au-vent with a steak filling and cooked broccoli that managed to still be frozen in the middle! However, the lady who was front of house was just lovely, so friendly and when we mentioned the food to her she offered us a free desert, which was much appreciated. They did have a family fun day so maybe they were over stretched. We won’t be returning.

Surprised to see a review criticising this lovely pub. I was also at the Greg Agar gig on Saturday with my Husband and some friends and had the best night I have had since lockdown. I thought the lads in question were good fun and well behaved and added to the atmosphere. Also with restrictions lifted it wasn’t table service and we also went back and forth to the bar. It is a pub after all and not a cabaret event. The landlord works very hard and sat to have a quick chat with some regulars surely you can’t begrudge that.

This was the second time we have used this lovely pub for a family event; on both occasions we were overwhelmed by the food provided - buffet and a sit down tea and cakes; the food is all homemade and was delicious. The service we asked for was exactly what we wanted, if not better. We were looked after superbly from start to finish. Thank you to you all.

Had the most fantastic Sunday Lunch at the Royal George for my daughters 18th birthday. Everything was beautifully cooked, event the gravy was amazing. And the 'yorkies' were massive. For all the dads, they do a 'Big Daddy' where for only £4 more you gat a much bigger plate and a load of extra meat. Best roast lunch i have had out in ages!

After a really long walk we fancied helping out the local economy and popped in to the George. Asked for coffee and cake for 2. We have nice cake and 2 lattes. The bill of £17.00 really did not feel justified as it was ok, not magnificent. I'm not sure that we will rush back there again as there are many more places who are more affordable on a whim.

We booked The Royal George after sampling a takeaway during lockdown - which wasn’t good either, already reviewed that - and thought we’d give it a second chance. Booking was easy via messenger. On arrival we followed the one way system and entered the pub. We were queuing for almost ten minutes at the entrance (which had a horrid draft due to open doors) as there was one person serving... and he was halfway through a meal on his lunch break, poor lad! We were shown to our table, which was between the open front door and kitchen, so a very busy and cold place to sit. We were given one menu between three of us for some reason and had our drinks and food order taken. The drinks were promptly delivered to the wrong table and when they were hurriedly brought over she spilt about a centimetre of my pint all over the table.. no apology or offer of top up, nor did she clean it. Our food (chicken burger, beef burger and kids burger) was average at best, with few chips accompanying them. The onion rings side were pretty poor too. I left over half of mine which is unusual! We didn’t bother with a dessert - we were cold and fed up, so paid the bill and left. The food was cheap due to the fact we used the government scheme, I’d have been gutted paying full price! More attentive staff and more staff in general may have helped, but we will not be giving it another try. Had hoped it would be much better.

I came here as the pics I had seen looked good and tempting! Unfortunately it didn't live up to expectation. Luckily it was a part of the eat out to help out scheme so was half the price. This was just as well as I would most definitely not have paid full price. One of us ordered burger and chips. It was quite a small portion for what should have been £18....yes that's correct, £18 (pic included)! The burger was home made but so incredibly dry which ruined it. The chips, however, were amazing. One of us had the salt and pepper platter. Another dish that would have been £18 and was not worth it. We didnt complain as we had only paid half price and it wasnt awful just average. Maybe its because they were busy. Maybe it deserves another shot. But maybe we would leave it a while til we try again. I would suggest to them however, that they ensure their Covid measures are on par with other establishments. Yes there was hand sanitizer around but people were not staying at their tables and were milling about...including right up to our table, which didn't make us feel incredibly safe in all honesty

For what we paid, seeing as it was half price, it was nice. I’m not sure I would have been satisfied if it was full price. The meats on the platter were tasty, but the chips were only just cooked. Seeing as it was busy, it was understandable. However the chicken burger has so much spicy sauce, even tho it said ‘hickory’, just ruined the meal. I couldn’t enjoy it due to the heat, and the bun underneath was soggy from so much sauce. On the menu it said gerkins, but none to be seen. Just needs the finishing touches!

Having never been before, Royal George was recommended on a Facebook site to us. We saw the Salt & Pepper box and jumped at the chance! Very easy to order over messenger, lovely polite staff on arrival and we were away within 5 minutes. The meal itself was quite disappointing. Some items just didn’t taste of anything, let alone S&P. The boys that did were lovely though. I’d say well over half was bland, with the remaining being nice and edible. Very little meat on most ribs too. I’m gutted as it smelt amazing, just lacked overall taste. Not a bad price really, may try the RG again to see if it was a one off.

We called in here last Thursday (28th). Our friend who was with us had recommended it. Oh dear, what a disappointment. Other than the festive menu, very little choice. I ordered lasagne. It was the worst I've ever had. The bottom of it was burnt, the top was burnt. Instead of a good tasty meaty sauce, it was dry and tasteless. There was a bit of green salad with it, but only leaves, no other salad ingredients. I asked for some mayonnaise, and had the feeling that it was given grudgingly. We were about the only diners in there, so, they weren't rushed off their feet. Never again!

They raved about the food and they were not wrong. Delightful meals and staff and locals made you feel very welcome. WILL BE GOING BACK AGAIN SOON.Also try the Butchers just up the road very friendly and helpful.

We had a very enjoyable Sunday lunch- very tasty roast beef with all the trimmings followed by a delicious home cooked Pavlova dessert. The landlord and landlady were very welcoming and we received excellent service. We will definitely return soon to this very attractive pub.

Simpatico e tipico pub di paese, con menù scritto sulla lavagna e cucina casalinga con piatti inglesi. Buono il rapporto qualità prezzo.

This was an amazing pub to visit. The setting and pub decor was just beautiful and typical of the location. The food just fabulous with great choice. The bar staff along with the Land Lord & Lady were just so friendly and can make you really feel part of the locals. They were very attentive and made you feel so welcome. An amazing fun time. There is also a skittle alley - this is certainly a 'must try' - so much fun.

Second visit under new ownership. Previous review ok and was one of our favourite places in the past. I ordered toad in the hole my wife fish and chips. Toad consisted of two small dried up sausages in a batter which I could have used to repair my shoes with! Having said that the cabbage was nice. The fish was quit nice but the chips were hard. My wife called over the waiter, said the chips are hard. he said "what all of them" grabbed my wife's plate and said he would replace the dish. No time to even mention the toad. My wife's dish came out again. Fish, which was ok previously, now over cooked. Chips had been microwaved (hotter on inside than out), peas like bullets. Didn't bother complaining about toad, didn't seem worth it. Went to bar to get bill the "charming waiter" slapped it down saying that he had taken off my wife's wine to compensate and rushed back into the kitchen before I could mention the toad. It's a shame a lovely pub for atmosphere now spoilt by awful food and inattentive rude staff. Needless to say will not be returning and will be passing the word to our many friends who also used to love this place.

Whether it's for a meal or just to drink and socialise, this is a cracking pub. The new(ish) landlord and lady are exceptionally welcoming, warm and convivial. The atmosphere is great and we're often encouraged to stay longer than we really should!! In particular Darren, the landlord, can be very persuasive!! It's a laugh a minute. Good Sunday lunch - a godsend for helping to recover from the previous night's festivities!! Occasional live music and themed nights too. This is an old pub with a lot of history in a beautiful village in Somerset. We are very lucky in this village to have four very good eating/drinking establishments within spitting distance of each other, two of which also offer accommodation. Everything's here for a great night out!!

A truly welcoming village pub, with lots of atmosphere and great food. Food was amazing - steak cut like butter, onion rings with the liver and bacon were outstanding. So full, we couldn't fit pudding in! As it was a Friday evening we got to experience the village skittles teams playing. Already planning a repeat visit to take friends.

First visit and it won't be the last! Met friends here for Sunday lunch. Was not disappointed. Two of us had the roast beef and all the trimmings (the gravy was to die for!!) The others had chicken breast wrapped in bacon with mozzarella cheese, and liver and bacon with mashed potato and onion rings. The puddings again were a real treat. Two of us had bread and butter pudding with custard (just like mother used to make!) and the others had sticky toffee pudding with ice cream. Nothing to fault about this lovely little pub which has a large car park at the back, and a very friendly and welcoming landlord who made us feel at home. Well done to all of you at the Royal George and we will look forward to our next visit!

The Landlord and Landlady (Sue and Darren) couldn`t have been more helpful in organising my 50th birthday meal. Nothing was too much trouble. Sue even kindly arranged a special set menu for me.The food was delicious, piping hot, prompt (no waiting for ages in between courses)and excellent value for money. The atmosphere was very welcoming, lovely and cosy with the open fire burning away. What more could you ask for.I will definitely be recommending this pub to all my friends and family. A great friendly welcome awaits you.

Visited for Sunday Lunch. Nice old pub near centre of pretty small village on A30 a few miles from Yeovil, Somerset. We had Whitebait starter and Roast Beef main. Both delicious and well cooked with sauces.Landlord has only been there6 months was chatty and friendly.Would visit again. Landlord would like to attract more local drinkers , making it a local again with a balance of still providing high quality food.

Called in here for lunch on Friday 10th Feb. 17, first order was unavailable, what I did order in the end was Fish & Chips with peas. It arrived with veg, no peas, when I asked about the peas, I was told Chef probably did not have any, no apology, really poor service, I have been here before and the food was good, maybe new management ? It was very cold in the pub, we both ate with our coats on. Won't be going back here, shame.

Unfortunately our meal wasn't quite as good as we had hoped for.The main thing that let it down was the service & the fact that the desserts we pre ordered were not available, we were asked to pick an alternative & then later told that wasn't available either! Our dessert plates & glasses hadn't been cleared for a while so I cleared the table myself, there were 18 of us on 2 tables, I then asked the lady at the bar if we could have coffees & she looked at me blankly & said she only usually works Fridays.... it was a Friday?! Starters were good, the roast turkey was pretty fine but the nut loaf was completely inedible.

We visited there in October for dinner on a whim. In fairness it doesn't look like a pub geared up for dinner for small children, but there was one table with a long bench that worked perfectly for us. The staff were friendly, and the food was nice, albeit there was a fairly limited choice. Most of the customers were congregated at the bar for an evening drink. A very nice option for an occasional meal.

We chose the Royal George in West Coker for a family meal. Being our first visit we checked out the reviews and the most recent reviews being so positive we decided to try it ourselves. We were not disappointed.... The atmospheric village pub is warm and friendly and the food was fresh, tasty, beautifully presented and flavoursome. The menu consisted of something to suit all tastes and the Desserts which are all home made are delicious. We noticed this pub has relatively new tenants which we wish them all the success - they deserve to do well.We will be back!!!

This was a midweek visit with a group of friends. Sadly the menu was very limited and we struggled to make choices. What we had was ok but only that. Cream was off as stated by a previous reviewer and they do not serve decaf coffee which is unusual these days. There was definitely a smell of smoke coming from a staff member, quite unpleasant. The pub was lacking in atmosphere and by 9.30 we were the only cutomers. Let's hope that these are teething problems.

We have had lovely meals in the past and this was our first visit under the new ownership. I have to say it was most disappointing......we had fish and chips and the quality of the fish was very poor and the cream used in our pudding was 'off' not only smelling foul but tasting awful! The usual crowds have gone along with the atmosphere of what was once a lovely pub! The 'waitress' had several cigarette breaks during our visit which added an unpleasant smell to her clothing when she returned. What a shame......we will give it a while before/if we visit again and would not be recommending it anymore.
