The Royal Bengal in Coventry

This was our first visit. The food was excellent. Service very hood and atmosphere hoid. It was a very busy Ftiday evening. The only problem is street parking.

They took ages to serve. Average Indian food, pricey for what it is...

We waited 2h for the dinner and it was burned.

They took more than two hours to bring us the food... Too much money for the waiting

Great quality Indian cuisine. Been dining here for 20+ years and the guys there always remember us and provide a super friendly service along with great food. Would recommend.

Staff are very friendly , Food is not very good, in my opinion. How can u add mincemeat to a chicken tikka it just doesn't taste right. This is what the manager told us they do, but other than that, it's a nice restaurant .

I would leave 6 stars. The place is nice and clean, the food is really good, but the best part is the staff. They were all super kind. I asked some questions, and the chef came to speak with me. I hope to try their food again; in the meantime, a hug from Italy!

Only downside is we were a table of 7 and were put alongside a large table of extremely noisy girls which meant we struggled to have a conversation on our table. Next time we will request not to be on the side of restaurant with large party table. Best Indian food I had in ages. I'm veggie and had chicken pea dish and mushroom fried rice . Husband had lamb tikka balti and was great .

The owner seems to be a very nice person:) , food was good ! but some of the stewards was creepy and I addressed it to the manager and he made sure it's sorted :) it's a late review ! Been there at end of march

Had a wonderful evening at the Royal Bengal. I am a regular customer and apart from the food being delicious, the staff are all so lovely and attentive. I had my sons birthday there last night and we had the side room for ourselves. There were 30 of us and the service was amazing. It was a very lovely evening. Thank you Royal Bengal.

Would give 0 if I could. Ordered vegan curry and was sent chicken. Staff refunded me eventually but first told me if I want replacement food I had to come and collect it (this after me paying almost £8 deliver for cold food on top of the fact it was chicken!) I had already waited an hour for this food. The sides that came were watery, cold and bland. Then one hour later, they used my card details that I gave him for a refund, to process a further payment of over £60 without my knowing. Owners (brothers) both heard discussing the fact they had done this even after they had denied all knowledge, all whilst I was on “hold”… both pretending they were the manager & not the owners but that it was a family business and they both owned it. Constantly lying. Fraudulent activity. We had to visit the restaurant a lot but it went downhill. Recently came as a family again & food was great, but clearly a one off. Never again. I do not trust this restaurant!

We went here last night for a celebratory meal for my son Josh’s Stag party. We were met by Shahin who was very friendly and welcoming to us all. I had pre ordered the mains which made for a very efficient delivery service to the table. Food and drinks were excellent and every meal fresh and hot. Feedback from the 20 persons was excellent with a variety of meals ordered. Overall an excellent evening with great hospitality from the team. Thanks very much.

Came for an impromptu curry. I had a chicken tikka biryani and we shared a peshwari naan. The food was great quality and delicious. This is one of my favourite local curry places. The staff were friendly and attentive. Will definitely be back.

Collected a takeaway costing over £50 The food was appalling.runny curry which we couldn’t eat. Had to return Currys as No one would collect it.. The curry was replaced and was still the same very watery .. I would have sooner had a refund especially when I had to return to the restaurant.. the option was not even offered to me which is very rude.. Absolutely shockingly bad. Used to be the best which is why I treated my family to a takeaway for around £60 which I picked up. Was not worth it. Ordered and told 20mins till ready. Ended up 40mins. Asked for a specific dish for my young son which proceeded to a full conversation about what I wanted it to be then it was missed off the order. I had to go back out then pick this up. All food cold and tasteless. You'd of thought we all had ordered the same dish and paying just shy of £4 for a naan the size of my hand and again cold. Will never return or recommend again.

This is my go to restaurant but not tonight the service was poor and the food awful. We waited 1.5 hours for our food and when it arrived it had obviously been sat under a heat lamp which left it with a thick skin on the top and luck warm ( not good for chicken) the nanna bread was dry and old. Very disappointed tonight.

We used to love eating here, our last two visits have been disappointing, last night was very poor. We waited over an hour after finishing our starter for our mains, another table that came in after us had their mains delivered so I asked a waiter is there a problem we our food? When our meals came out 15 minutes later they were placed on a burner for 10 seconds, basically the food was lukewarm! The food looked like it had been under a heat lamp and was cool to the touch so we sent it back. No apology, nothing. The food was expensive for what it was, the naan bread was stale, the portion of rice was small for the price. The chicken looked like the sliced chicken you buy from a deli counter. This all sounds very negative but in reality there was little to be positive about.

Prawn cocktail and scampi and chips were amazing!!!

Great first visit, staff were friendly and attentive. Food was lovely. The Naga chilli challenge was that difficult, you need to up the prizes for eating it 😂

Omg what a disappointment, food was terrible, only 2 pieces of chicken in curry and which looked like tandoori sauce poured on top. Also they tried to take £300 off my card the day after which I will be reporting to the police as I only purchased a drink on my card the evening before. Fraudulent restaurant for sure

I went to this restaurant to cekebrate my birthday with my family. The last time i visited this place was pre pandemic and at the time, the food was prepared to order with levels of spicing. This time around, and after four years of returning, i have never tasted worse food anywhere. I ordered a starter (samosa). This had no taste whatsoever. I tasted the salad that came with it better. The main course of a mixture of veg and non veg dishes had no spice to them. No kick to them. It was like chewing cardboard. I love my stuff parathas. The stuffed paratha from this place has put me off as it was more stale than freshly prepared. This place does not cater for customers who like a bit of spice to their food. We asked for levels of spice but tasted nothing of the sort. Sorry Royal Bengal, you did nothing to tempt me back in the future. Your service was lacking and it wasn't as if the place was bursting at the seams with customers. I've given you 2 out of 5 only because of the ambience of the place. I won't be returning.

Lovely restaurant. We stopped by chance with no reservation. From the road it looked full, but we were welcomed in and sat within 5mins. The food was very tasty with a massive choice for us veggies. Everything very well priced, and service paced just right! Loved it and will go back.

Service was awful - had a table booked for 4 for 7pm, waited 20 minutes and a table of 8+ was sat before we were. No apologies or acknowledgement. Didn't end up receiving our food until at least 8:20, and even then it wasn't hot, just lukewarm. Food quality and portion sizes were laughable; very poor, very bland. Waiter forgot part of our order, said he'd bring it, but didn't. Just not very helpful all around.

Not been in here for years....its OK...there are better and there are worse, hence middling score. We had shahi meat masala, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken...all looked pretty identical so same base sauce used to all? My lamb was a bit dry but tender ish. Smallest portions of rice ive encountered i think so dont get one to share! As I said...OK, but nothing outstanding.

First time back since 2020 and the food has improved will be back

Booked for 9pm but waited until 10pm for food , after prompting the head waiter. It was strange because within a few minutes the food arrived, it must have been sitting in the kitchen! I wondered after if this was a policy to encourage more drinks being ordered? When the food did arrive it was pretty bland. I won’t be returning.

Whilst there are plenty of staff service was slow Food w as poor . My chick.en Jalfrzie had no chillies, plenty of green pepper and 4 pieces of chicken 5mm square. Not good value for money

I love this place. The management and staff are so friendly. The food is great. They don’t rush you out the door when you’ve finished. Licensed, so no need to bring your own.

First time here, staff were lovely and the food was great, we were there mid week and it was busy which is always a good sign, will definitely be back.

Food is absolutely amazing, meat cooked to perfection. Busy Saturday night and didn't wait more than 5 minutes for drinks to come to the table. Food came out at a reasonable time, staff are very friendly and attentive. 100% will be back!!

We booked a table for 3 for 6.00pm on Sunday 15th October. It wasn’t busy so we would have been ok but we didn’t want to take any chances. I have to say the staff were very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and the food was absolutely delicious - it was so fresh and tasty. I’d definitely recommend this fine restaurant to anyone!!

Having first stepped through the doors in 1987 and meetings young Sala and his twin brothers I have always found The Royal Bengal serving great food with amazing customer service, at times I wish it was just that small restaurant again but due to word of mouth it had to expand and what you see today is down to great food, amazing customer service and keeping up with the times. Long may it continue, I wish them all the best in The National Awards in London.

Service was quite poor. We'd booked a table for 7.30 but didn't get seated till 8.30. They got a few things wrong with our food order, but the service was quite slow we waited a long time between courses and for the final bill.

We visited on a Saturday evening so was expecting it to be busy. We had booked for 7.45 but the front desk had us down as 7.30, not an issue I would have thought, until we were told by some front of house staff in an abrupt manner, we were late and we had to wait now for the table. And so the wait began, after 45 minutes we were finally seated, drinks order taken after another 15 minutes with the food order being confirmed 10 minutes later. What we did start to notice, was that everyone was drinking but not many people were eating. We enquired about the progress of our order and was told 10-15 minutes to go, the staff apologised they were very busy and short staffed. We then asked again as a further 20 minutes had passed without our food, to be told that we would be waiting 15 minutes, which we were told previously. By this point we had been in the restaurant for almost two hours with only poppadoms to eat. We called it a night without our food and had a take out meal from McDonald's, which was served very quickly. To be fair to the staff they did reduce the bill for the drinks we had and did not charge us for the poppadoms. I was put off from the very start by the abrupt member of staff giving us a lecture about punctuality, then his establishment taking two hours of our time without any food. Would I visit again? No.

So we decided to go to this restaurant as we had enjoyed the food here once before and said we would go back. I booked a table for 5 for 7.45pm they said they would book it for 7.30 and I said no we are leaving the house at 7.30 for 7.45 / 8pm they said that’s fine. We arrived at 7.45 and the place was packed and when I told them we had booked a table the guy threw his hands in the air and said your late…not a great start, I explained and he said ok wait and we will get you a table….in hindsight we should have left there and then. After 30 min wait we got a table, to cut a long story short at 9.30 we still had no food and they said there were a few tables still before us, so we probably would not be eating till 10pm We gave up and left because it was just too late to eat for us. in fairness they didn’t charge for popadoms and not for all drinks but it’s the least they could do for waisting our time, it was a really bad experience and we won’t bother again, everyone seemed to be waiting forever for their food it wasn’t just us, they obviously can’t cope, who wants to wait for 2 hours to get their food served, completely unacceptable.

Went to restaurant little bit late but I found out that spending such money was not worth it...... Food was OK in taste but quantity for plate of 2 people was soooo less and didn't like. The way the things were in quantity.... And even after that front house man ask about you might be hungry because you finish all the food.. I personally found out disrespectful........ Services were bad because not taking care of all the things..... Overall I feel it was unworthy and waste of money

We went here 5 weeks ago, and had a lovely meal, very tasty and what we expected. Went 2 days ago, there was no flavour whatsoever except from the chillis sprinkled on top. Didn’t say anything, just paid and left. Will not be bothering again.

This restaurant’s food was worthy of five stars five years ago but today I only give it an overall two star rating.

I know this sounds terrible but you people have got no idea what Indian food is. You put this placid crap in your mouth and think it’s award-winning. Lord only knows how this place is survived only in England. God help Earlsdon.

Ordered a take away on Saturday 15th January and found the poppadum's missing. Phoned the restaurant whose immediate response was to tell us to get in touch with Deliveroo. On arguing my point that it was the restaurants fault, he said they were too busy to send anyone out . He took my card details but never repaid the money. The dishes were cold, the shami was burnt and customer satisfaction nil.

Ordered a takeaway Sunday 19th Dec evening. One of the dishes was not added to the order and the other two were really disappointing. They were supposed to be a chicken balti and butter chicken but were not anything like those dishes. I'm assuming they were just getting rid of what was in the kitchen at the end of the weekend even if it's not what the customer ordered.

But tarka dhal tasted burnt possibly from garlic or ghee being burnt. Was replaced promptly but still the same taste. Lamb biryani a little too spicy for my liking but meat was a bit chewy, clumps of unbroken up rice and nothing else added, accompanying veg curry sauce nice. Paratha too thick and chewy, quite greasy with oil, not enough butter flavour. Chicken jalfrezi nice but opposite not quite spicy enough. Tandoori roti okay but nothing to write home about. Lack of non alcoholic beers and ciders, only 1 beer on offer no ciders. Appreciate that they need to cater for their clientele and have limited space in bar but not everyone wants sugary soft drinks or alcohol. Tbh i prefer my local takeaway

After 20 years, exact to the day we came again. In 2001 we celebrated our wedding at the restaurant, it was the best tasting food in Coventry. But today we were very disappointed to find that the restaurant cooking standards are much lower. The food was oily and without any flavour. Our order was delivered incomplete. Staff were not attentive. Chutney were great! The morning after my partner and I had diarrhea. Conclusion: Food was pre-cooked,not stored in fridge and not freshly cooked.

Delicious meal and very friendly staff. Between three of us we had the Royal Bengal meal for two, vegetable samosas, Sag Paneer and fried rice. All really tasty.

We went to Royal Bengal to try their food for booking a party later on. Food was not great, no customer service except one young lad which was good. they couldn't wait to get customer out of the place keep coming to table with payment machine even before finishing our drink. Good takeaway place in these times we are going through. The food was less greasy than the local competition. I can't stand the sight of oil slicks in my food. I had asked to extra garlic, chillies, no problem and at no extra cost. I prefer collection to delivery so I can thank the staff for preparing this Bengali cuisine for a vegetarian. Thank you. Went here during COVID as one of my only meals out - despite the new challenges the service here was excellent and everything was managed brilliantly. The staff were in great spirits and so accomodating. The food was absolutely faultless! Service was quick and everything was very reasonably priced. Would definitely go back here again and cannot recommend enough!
