Totally unimpressed with our Christmas Day dinner. Arrived at 1pm and left by 2.05pm feeling very underwhelmed! Each course came straight after we'd finished one, with no rest time in between. Food was awful, overdone starter, sloppy stuffing, Yorkshire puddings were underdone. We were sat in front of the entrance door which blew a gale every time it opened. The waitress offered us coffee and mince pies before we'd had dessert. When I stated this she just said "they're free!" We ordered the coffee only to then be charged for it on top of the £130 each we had already paid!!! If they were busy I could have understood better but it was half empty! Needless to say we will not be returning.

A pretty astonishingly poor (single) vegetarian option offered at Sunday lunch (despite the restaurant describing themselves as vegetarian friendly). Some re-heated gnocchi with an entire tin of tomatoes over it and what I can only assume was an entire jar of capers. For £14! Meanwhile everyone else at our table got full roasts (can't comment on how good they were as I didn't try them) for £16-18. Absolutely ridiculous that anyone could consider that gnocchi a viable option at all.

First impression of the restaurant was very good. Unfortunately a few simple things caused me to write this review. All three of us ordered a roast dinner which was served to us whilst we were still looking at the wine list, approximately 5 minutes. That was when a few things were reported to the waitress. 1. No crackling withe roast pork something that is shown as a main ingredient on the menu. 2. Gravy already poured all over the food, this should always be served separately. 3 . The cauliflower cheese was literally a bowl of mush, we reported this to the waitress who just said she would let someone know. The table next to us was served next with a large bowl of beautifully prepared cauliflower florets with cheese sauce. We never had any feedback re our concerns so we just carried on with what we had been served. Desert ordered Trio of Ice cream with home made Shortbread what we we received was three scoops of ice cream in a bowl and no shortbread! Lemon cheesecake was also ordered which we were told was no longer available but then was told they had just got one piece left. Great I thought, what arrived was a very slim slice of cheesecake with 2 minute blobs of cream. On paying the bill I did relay my concerns to a gentleman who I presume was the manager, his response was a quick sorry and then disappeared to speak to the waitress On his return he took my payment and just said sorry once again. Unfortunately what should have been a nice Sunday Lunch turned into a huge disappointment

Stayed at the royal arms several times over the years, the location is great and the staff are friendly. It doesn’t get packed out with rowdy gangs and is perfect if you want a quiet break or meal. Beer garden is nice too. Only problem I find here is the price of the food and drinks and not alot of choice on the menu, the portion sizes can be a bit small at times. Breakfast service can be pretty slow, the rooms are nice only problem I find with them is the water pressure in the showers, I’ve stayed in several rooms and they’re all the same. But I like it here and will continue to return in the future.

Booked the Royal Arms mainly for the fact they offer a Gluten Free Sunday roast dinner. I was bitterly disappointed when my food arrived to see a small stack of meat, around 3 small potatoes and a small pot of gravy… NO Yorkshire pudding, NO crackling and barely enough veg to feed a child in a small bowl… I don’t eat cauliflower cheese but wasn’t asked if I’d prefer another veg option. If they offer a GF dinner it needs to be a full dinner not half portions but for the full amount of £18:50! Other diners seemed to have what can only be described as meat platters filled with gigantic Sunday dinners! I left feeling hungry and disappointed and not happy being sat next to the toilet door. Won’t re-book or recommend. Waitress staff were nice and friendly but maybe because they were under the watchful eye of the owner/manager who oddly seems the only person who can take payment of the bill…

This was booked for a small Family Wedding meal & we were really looking forward to it, the menu choices seemed lovely & price per head a bit over the top but, the area I suppose you’d expect this. However, on arrival the seating plan was not the best as people had their backs to each other, the Staff were extremely young and inexperienced to say the least & the manager or head of service was quite rude & not very helpful. Quite a few of the orders (that were pre ordered) were incorrect and, when challenged you were made to feel uncomfortable. All in all not a good place to celebrate especially after such a lovely wedding 💒 elsewhere.

I also added the breakfast onto the stay as well and I liked the fact everything was brought to me rather than having to go and find the cereal, juices, coffee etc. the full English was cooked how I like it and fresh. All in all I can honestly say I love this place and already have plans to stay again.. Thankyou royal arms for a great stay 😎😎

Confused. Are you a wedding venue, a local pub or a fine dining restaurant? Beautiful food served with paper napkins. Expensive wine served in heavy bar style wine glasses? Outdoor furniture designed for wedding guests, with no cushions. Lovely room but dated, miss matched furniture and scuffed paintwork. (The shower cubicle definitely doesn’t feature in any of your new glossy brochures, or your lovely website!) You need to decide what you are. Unfortunately you will always be remembered by us as “the restaurant that served me 3 halves of new potatoes” 😝

Sat in front of the lovely fire, chatting, and catching up with great friends, we had passed the time for lunch but the staff and chef was very accommodating, and made us sandwiches with chips. beautiful.... The accommodation was old and little dated but lovely and clean and very cosy and warm. The bed was really comfortable and had a lovely nights sleep. We went over for a 3 course meal, couldn't fault the food at all, delicious. Steak was cooked to perfection. compliments to the chefs.... Had a beautiful breakfast, then went for a lovely walk over Bosworth battlefields and Sutton Cheney wharf. If you love walking this is a great little rural pub to stop at. My partner took me here for my birthday treat last month and we were incredibly shocked with our experience. Firstly, we arrived and checked into our rooms. The room seemed ok, however when going for a shower before our meal the water was stone cold. After both having a cold shower, we decided to look at the menu. Although very limited, it seemed quite nice, and we both decided what we wanted. We then went across to the restaurant for our meal... We were sat right away at our booked table by a member of staff and given menus, which were different to the ones in the room we were staying in. We ordered some drinks which came 15 mins later and one was wrong so had to be changed, which took a further 10 mins. For starters we shared a scallop dish which was just over £14. It came out nicely presented, but was 3 tiny Queeny scallops which we had one and a half of each. Wasn't even a mouthful. It was very disappointing and over priced. Mains... We both went for venison as we hadn't had that in some time. On the menu it just said venison and not what cut etc, so we asked out of curiosity and they didn't know so had to ask the chef. The meals came in good time but was the smallest portion we had ever seen. But we thought if it tastes good then that's no problem. Well.... The venison was just ok! I can't complain about that really. But the parsnip was soggy and covered in 'dry herbs!' the pure was nice an the jus was ok. And then there was the 'blackberry'.. which is not in season but hey we thought it sounded nice to pair with the game meat. It was more like an overly sweetened coulis. We were hoping for some nice blackberries cooked off in the meat juices or something a little more creative than a tasteless syrup. Once we finished our meals and were eventually asked about desserts we felt like going back to the room as the restaurant was a bit of a disastrous experience. I asked for the bill which was £80... For one drink each, a starter and two mains!!!!!! I didn't seem right at all. I don't mind paying for good food but we felt absolutely ripped off, and when the lady asked how my meal was, I quietly and reasonably said how I felt in a nice manner and she laughed at me! Not very friendly and approachable management! We ended up canceling our morning breakfast and left first thing feeling extremely disappointed. I've given it 2 stars because the place is actually beautiful inside and the first girl who served us was very friendly and bubby! Will not be returning

When we arrived there were no staff members around, after standing around for a few minutes we had to ring the bell to get someone to come out the back - they showed us to our tables and said they would be back. Service was very slow but there seemed to be one person doing all the work - saying this it wasn’t busy at all. My parents gave up waiting for a drink order so helped themselves to the refreshments on the side which I presumed was for hotel guests as when I asked if we should help ourselves we were told no it’s table service.

On his return he advised us that the chef said if we could return the ramekin he would allow it. As we live in south Leicester we could not guarantee to return it in the near future. Sadly we left the restaurant without the dessert and agreed not to visit again. The cost of the ramekin is approx. £2, was this really worth losing custom?

My husband booked a table for 8pm this was for my birthday. We arrived early at around 7.45 and was greeted by a waitress who then allowed us to sit where we wanted, took our orders then returned with drinks. The restaurant at that time literally had one other couple in so not what you could remotely describe as busy. Another couple arrived at least 10mins later and then some time later received their meals. By 8.45 I had had enough and walked to the bar area where I was was told by the same waitress whilst she was walking away from me that our order hadn't gone through but would now be with us shortly. No apology etc I told her we had been waiting over 3/4 hour now so forget it, we would pay for our drinks and they could forget it. The lady with the blonde hair behind the bar/till did actually apologize, waived the price of the 2 drinks and said it was unacceptable, to her thank you. But as far as the waitress if she knew there had been a problem then here's a tip, good manners and common courtesy go a long way with customers don't just leave people sitting for an age. Also in a restaurant that at the time literally had one other couple how on earth can one other order not be dealt with. Sorry just the whole experience was a shambles and ruined my birthday and obviously left it too late for us to go anywhere else for a special meal. After reading other reviews this would not appear to be the first time. Just very poor the only credit can be given to the lady behind the till. Needless to say we won't be returning and as we are reasonably local we will also advise friends, colleagues not to bother. A shame for local business as my husband was also looking for hotel and restaurant options for his overseas customers and colleagues. 1*credit

I booked here for my mums birthday as a surprise for her, we usually go the black horse in Market Bosworth but thought we would try here with it being slightly more expensive for the champagne breakfast we had high hopes, but we were very disappointed. When we arrived there was just a glass of granola and glass of fruit which looked like it had been sat a while, although it looked nice in the glass, I think it’s nicer to have the choice of fruit and get your own granola so it is fresh not for yoghurt soaking all in it! We seemed to wait ages to even receive any champagne or explained to us how it worked. We then ordered the breakfast which were fine apart from the full English which was a child’s portion I’m sure but maybe a good thing as it was inedible and we had asked for no beans with it but it came with beans and no mushrooms. My mum then asked for a fresh cup and was presented with a chipped one. Three people were drinking coffee but they only bought a jug out big enough to fill two cups so kept having to ask for more. Overall we were very unhappy with the whole thing and when you pay that sort of money it isn’t what you expect. We won’t be returning and will be going where we know is best. I look forward to your response.

We went out for a meal with friends - despite the place being overrun with staff - service was not good. The bar man when asked to explain something on the menu was unable to - but didn't offer to find out. Despite ordering a bottle of wine to have with our meal - whilst having a pre dinner drink - so in plenty of time - it was not delivered to our table as we sat down - and we had to chase it twice. We asked for mustard - and it came too late as we had almost finished out meals by the time we arrived. Our waitress was lovely but there is evidently a lack of management somewhere which is causing these sorts of issues. They may sound like niggles but it is the little things which make a difference.

Very disappointed with the Sunday lunch. Had two course meal, but finished feeling hungry. First course of tomatoes was especially poor. Main meal had cauliflower and broccoli only for veg.

I attended a function and as I was the designated driver, I decided to have shandy. Not an issue, but, it would appear that the Royal Arms were charging me for a pint of lager, rather than a half of lager and a half of lemonade. Simply not cricket..

We visited last Saturday. It’s a lovely place. Nice staff, good atmosphere and location. The food was ok, good wholesome meal rather than spectacular. Overall a 4 star rating is appropriate.

Visited here a couple of weeks ago and were not disappointed. The place has been refurbed since our last visit which was within keeping of the original pub. Food was really tasty and I think we went for 3 courses, rude not too! Staff all very helpful and hard working. Not the cheapest of places but we didn't mind paying a little bit more for a very relaxing afternoon with good food.

very nice afternoon tea in the upstairs room for a party of 25, plentiful sandwiches, scones, jam, cream, cakes, tea and coffee. i did think it was a bit pricey, had been advertised at £14.95 but I paid over £18 for mine, but a very enjoyable afternoon catching up with old friends.

We come to The Royal Arms frequently for dinner or lunch, and it's our go-to treat after walking through Bradgate Park or through Bosworth Park. We have taken visiting family and friends here for meals, and their reviews are always as enthusiastically positive as ours. My husband and I eat fish, but we prefer to eat vegetarian most of the time, and this is never a problem here. I normally get the gorgeous quinoa burger, which is the most delicious veggie burger I have ever had - even better than at some of the world-famous veg restaurants I have visited. Impressive for a classic gastro pub!

We were already planning on eating a little later than we would have planned... 8pm, but we were running late so arrived closer to 8:30. After starting with a quick beer in the bar we took up our seats in the rather busy and noisy restaurant.

Visited last weekend with 4 other couples on the fantastic £139 offer which includes 3 course meal dinner bed and breakfast and suite upgrade. We visit every year and it is usually very good. This time was exceptional. The dining room has had a gorgeous refurb , all the staff were lovely and friendly. The new A La Carte menu was spot on and just fantastic quality. Lovely drinks in the bar near the roaring fire. plenty of choice from specials board and classics menu also. We stayed in the new Greyhound Suite which was huge with its own aga and really cosy. All in all our best experience at The Royal Arms, Back at the Annual Summer Ball. Can't wait

Sunday lunch for 7 people. This was a birthday meal with a few friends and family. Pleasant helpful staff and nice environment, however mediocre food which is quite expensive. Sunday roasts were OK, but not much to them. Hard roast potatoes, no mashed potatoes, one small bowl of veg (mainly carrots) between 7 people, until we asked for more. Only a risotto available for vegetarians. Instead we asked for a Sunday roast without the meat, which is what was served; the meal was roast pots, Yorkshire puddings, plain veg and gravy. No extras, or attention to detail. Desserts took a good half hour to arrive and then the hot desserts were cold. Overall a bit disappointed.

We visited here for lunch as a family of four. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We were shown to our table, given menus and ordered drinks. We had a child with us and they offered sausage and mash or a smaller portion from the menu, he opted for sausage and mash. Two of us had the curry which was delicious and one had the chicken and bacon pie.

Extremely disappointed by the attitude of the manager and found her extremely racist. My husband, I and the family went in for a quick Christmas drink after our walk and found ourselves been driven out of the pub without serving us. The manager claimed they had no space despite we was standing on the otherside of the bar out the way in a quieter area, because they had a party of 40 arriving. I’m not sure how she was proposing to accommodate 40 extra people in the bar who had not even arrived and could not allow 6 of us one quick Christmas drink. She was extremely rude and frowned upon us all. I was extremely disgusted by her behaviour and attitude towards us.

Paid £80 (x2) for one of the worst Christmas dinners I've ever had. The first three courses came out so quick I was still eating my starter when my main course was placed on the table, all within a space of 45 mins. Expecting a lovely turkey dinner with sliced Turkey and seasonal vegetables, got a Turkey 'roll', three carrots, two (hard) roast potatoes and four brussel sprouts. And to top it all it was luke warm. I mentioned this to the waiter who said he'd tell the chef. When he came back he said the chef apologised for the 'beef' and left the 'complimentary' bottle of prosecco on the table (everyone else was being given this at the end of their meal). We then sat and waited, and waited, and waited for our dessert. Finally after 20 mins I said to one of the servers that we were ready for our deserts and she looked at the bottle of prosecco, then flustered, said oh, ok. Shortly after our christmas puddings were brought out. The rum and raison ice cream was served in small glass containers. So small you couldn't actually get to the ice cream! We were then asked if we wanted coffee or tea, which was brought out. ''Was there anything else we would like?'' the waiter asks, ''isn't there suppose to be mince pies? '' (as per the set menu!!) I say, ''Oh, you want them, I'll bring them out''. When I went to pay for the wine we had with the meal I was asked how was everything - so I told them, and got "All I can do is apologise". This wasn't our first time at the Royal Arms, but I'm afraid it will be our last. My wife and I, our first Christmas on our own, had hoped for something special. We certainly did!! Especially bad!.

Went to the Irresistaball Christmas ball last night entertainment was fantastic Michael Buble and Tom Jones tribute act and have to say I've not enjoyed a tribute act as much as I did last night...The staff at the royal arms were very pleasant and worked very hard to make sure everyone had their meals all together on the same table.. Sarah the events co-ordinator did a fantastic job orchestrating the whole evening.. I have been to 3 or 4 of these Christmas balls but I have to say compared to other years last nights food was a little disappointing.. The starter was fine and so was the dessert but the main course was only luke warm and the beef was dry and over cooked.. It's a shame because other years the food has been superb..Putting all that aside we still had a very enjoyable night and it hasn't put me off going again...
