Nothing more than a dog crèche for drunk, irresponsible dog owners! So disappointed with how the pub is being run during a recent visit. Came in for chilled drinks on a sunny Sunday eve but was majorly put off by 5 dogs running wild in the garden barking and roughhousing the entire time. Allowing well behaved dogs is one thing, but allowing all them off the lead rampaging and play fighting, yapping and howling and even blocking pathways whilst they wrestle with each other was a major turn off. And I love dogs! But this was clearly not about the dogs, but about their intoxicated owners and a lack of sensible rules. Plus the once beautiful garden was dishevelled and untidy, ash trays overflowing and weeds growing etc. Will be going to other pubs in Henley from now on! Sort your game out.

I visited the Row Barge three times during my stay in England and I was not disappointed! Nice selections of wine and very good pub food. The first visit, we just had a glass of wine. Our second visit, I had a cheese and tomato panini with chips. On our third and final visit, I had bangers and mash. The atmosphere is very cozy and the staff is very friendly. It's a little bit away from the hustle and bustle of the town center and this was a nice reprieve from all the out-of-towners when we came to Henley during the Regatta (unbeknownst to us) Looking forward to coming back here again!

Difficult to assess the atmosphere of a pub when you're about the only customer over three pints. But it had good looks. A small, clean, but not over-immaculate pub--it felt just right. Low ceilings, like a barge. A "secret garden" on two levels, with covered areas, boxed in behind houses. Red kites circling overhead. Pleasant barmaid. Henley reminds me of a seaside resort in that the pubs are choc-a-bloc along the "front". But the Row Barge sits well back in a quiet street, and I escaped the manic vibe there.

Visited "on spec" to find a really pleasant "olde world" style pub with a pleasant bar area serving good beer.We decided to eat there and thoroughly enjoyed "pub grub" but of a high standard, the service was quick and efficient, the food (and plates) was hot, well cooked and great quality, a reasonable wine list which we tested and found a perfectly acceptable quality wine at £20 per bottle.

Tried to get a drink early one weekday evening. On the positive the place was busy but with only one person serving behind the bar I smelled chaos getting served and I was right. There was no order to who was getting served. Regulars simply took their drinks and then stayed drinking at the bar obviously stopping others from getting in to be served. The barman had no idea who was arriving and in what order he was was also taking food orders so after standing there trying to get attention for 15/20 mins we gave up and went elsewhere. Very disappointing as we are very local to this place but will certainly give it a miss for some while.

You would not think this to be sought after, but that is wrong. For the Sunday lunch roast you typically have to book at least 3 - 4 days in advance. The food is wholesome traditional English food. Whether this is good food or not, is somehow subjective, but there are better options to the same price in Henley - that is for the roast meat options. Vegetables and potatoes are very good. I would have given a good rather than very good, but TA does not offer that option. The meat is locally sourced from the local Henley butcher, according to the menu. We did find it really tough though.

We don't live too far from Henley-on- Thames so it was unusual for us to be staying overnight there. That being the case, I swotted up via the net on likely pubs in which to pass the evening. I was not enthused by the results - one place we used to favour had ' gone bad' & others had been gastro-ised to their detriment but the Row Barge stuck out as the only likely prospect & furthermore it was only 2 minutes walk from our hotel yet a bit off the main beat. We were not disappointed. It is a long pub giving onto West St, probably once having 3 bars & although it is all one now there is enough separation to make for those who want to haunt the bar area separate from the quieter sitters or the T.V. watchers. Plenty of old beams, maroon plaster walls & some creamy white tongue & groove wooden panels, scrubbed wooden tables. All very clean, good Brakespeare's ale amongst other's available. Nice patio garden. Unfortunately, being Sunday night, there was no grub on so as we were starving hungry we had to move on after 3 pints. A word about the barman: don't know if he was the Governor, but he was top notch; absolute professional.

On our holiday to England, we made the trip from Liverpool to London by car and stopped over in Henley to visit the gates of Friar Park. For lunch, we ate at the Row Barge and it was a very enjoyable experience. The food was great, the staff friendly and the pub itself had a very relaxed atmosphere. It was quite surreal to be sitting there having a beer and thinking that George Harrison had been to this pub quite a few times for a few quiet ones. Highly recommended.

Had Steak and Ale pie here, Excellent. This is the place George Harrison and Eric Clapton would meet at and play music.

Spent the day in Henley on Thames Friday 13th June 2014 and as lunch time approached four of us took the short walk up West Street past the Fire Station to The Row Barge Inn.Turned out to be a great decision, brilliant food and for the two men washed down with a well kept pint.Would definitely recommend

Such a great pub, the Sunday lunch is fantastic and at a very reasonable price, just like home cooked and decent sized portions, must book as always very busy. They also offer bed and breakfast we have tried also good.

I booked lunch at this 'proper old English pub' for twenty five people for Easter Saturday. From the first contact by phone I felt confident that nothing would be a problem and I was right. We were greeted by warm friendly staff and served quickly and efficiently. There was a good selection of sandwiches all served with chips and side salad at £6, brilliant value for this area. Cooked dishes from the lunch menu were equally good. Great to find a real old fashioned cosy pub. We will definitely return when we're in the area.

At £13.50 the Sunday roast is about right for this town. We had one of each, beef, pork and chicken. Vegetables are served on the side and were plentiful. We were even offered more vegetables which we gladly accepted. The gravy was the star of the show for me. Very meaty, rich and full of flavour. I overheard someone saying the gravy takes a week to make?! Well worth it. I recommend booking as it's quite small in there but they do have a good sized garden for when the sun starts to shine. Good staff too!

So refreshing to visit a proper English Pub serving a great pint of Guinness, superb glass of red wine and a sensibly constructed a la carte menu. We enjoyed the often hyped pub burger that was actually probably the best burger I have ever eaten in any country. Excellent service and reasonable price highly recommend.

At lunchtime on our once-every-ten-years-or-so visit to see Dusty Springfield's memorial stone we stumbled on the Row Barge just off Market Place behind the Town Hall. A cosy pub atmosphere to warm us in chilly early January and a good choice of freshly cooked lunches, we were hooked. The well-kept Brakspears helped, too. I had delicious slow-cooked pork. Looks a good place for a summers day visit.

A very pleasant impromptu lunch with friends, nice atmosphere and good tasty food enjoyed in the bar area. It was inexpensive a made a pleasant day out with friends even better. Slight spoiler was fact that staff were publically smoking out side the pub, as a rule we do not visit any eating establishments where we know that staff smoke!

Back at last shame it was Shaun and Gemma’s night off. Very quiet Wednesday but we were late arrivals. Made welcome, choice of seating, nice to see pichets of wine on the drinks menu. Had tariiflette which was spot on and a good price as well. Made us feel guilty we don’t go here more often! Oh and they accept cash!

A lovely dog friendly pub with friendly staff and great food! A little off the beaten track but well worth the journey. The open fire and historic atmosphere definitely made us feel cozy in bad weather

Really nice warm individual atmosphere. Food was great and just what we needed before a long day the following. We overnight-ed in room 3 which had everything needed. I Managed to run an international meeting at 0600 so wifi was strong. Breakfast next day was really good and ready when we asked for it. Highly recommend The Fat Fox if you want to dodge the corporate bs and feel like a name not a number.

We decided on Sunday morning to try the Red Lion for lunch, and booked a table for 1330. We arrived and were met by efficient staff who were expecting us and offered us a choice of table. Drinks were ordered from a knowledgeable waiter and arrived quickly, mine being a very well-kept pint from tge local Amwell Springs brewery. We both chose beef from an extremely well thought-out menu which again arrived after only a short wait. The meat was beautifully cooked and presented on a large plate with very well cooked greens, carrots and a freshly-made Yorkshire puddings. Sides of cauliflower cheese and roast potatoes were excellent, probably the best roasties I've had, and the horseradish was similarly delicious. We both cleared our plates and the side dishes. Utterly gorgeous, go and see for yourself.

Great spot for a little family lunch. Sandwiches & cakes are delicious, nice surroundings & friendly staff. There’s also a box of books for kids to amuse themselves with. Not inexpensive but lovely for a treat.
