Traditional pub, Woodburner and a very friendly welcome. King prawns are propper king prawns, some of the best I've eaten. All food was presented excellent and tasted just as good as it looked. It was quiet, which is a real shame, I just think people haven't discovered it yet. I can and will highly recommend, we will return for sure.

We were googling somewhere nice for Sunday lunch and saw the reviews for The Rose Inn. We rang to book a table and were greeted with a very friendly gentleman and had the same warm welcome when we arrived. The pub is lovely and cosy with a log fire and the staff were very attentive. We had the Sunday lunch which was delicious and good size portions. The prices range from £13.00 for chicken to £17.00 for beef. The choice of puddings was good and I had the vegan cheesecake. The owners came and chatted with us but were not intrusive. It is nice to see people who actually seem to enjoy serving customers. Will definitely go back. Looking forward to visiting again with our dog in the summer as there is a pretty garden at the rear.

This is a gorgeous thatched roofed pub, decor inside is calm cosy and romantic the owners and staff are very friendly cheerful and totally professional and the food is out standing. This is a return visit after 3 months having had a stunning meal last time. I had Rib eye steak, my wife had belly pork which was over two inches thick sat on mash potato with peas and runner beans both meals again stunning, for dessert I had for scoops of different flavoured ice cream my wife had apple and peach crumble and custard This is an absolutely stunning place to eat with lovely garden For a relaxing or romantic meal the eating area is not your normal one big room filled with tables and chairs it a little warren of nocks and snug areas very ideal for those who want a bit of quite privacy. Owners who do the cooking are extremely friendly and the young staff are just great which made our evening It is disability accessible but not the toilets possible due to age of building Thank you for a lovelly evening see you again.

I could tell when I rang for a reservation for Sunday Lunch that there was going to be a warm welcome. I was not wrong. The staff were very attentive and friendly, and when we had a visit by the Chef over a query that my friend made, I have to say that made her day, and what an unusual and pleasant gesture by him. He could have sent a message (which is what most Chefs would have done) The Beef Sunday Roast was just wonderful, The beef was to die for and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. My friend said that her English River Trout was a delight. All in all - a great Sunday Lunch. We hope to be back. Thankyou

I find it a huge challenge to find somewhere to eat safely as I am a coeliac and rely on the competence of the restaurant kitchen my choices are usually very limited! Not here though- I had a fantastic choice on the menu for all courses and had my first battered fish with chips for many years. The whole party really enjoyed their meals and the atmosphere. We recommend the pork belly and the sticky toffee pudding and need to go back soon to try other options. Thank you to the team at the Rose Inn for a lovely evening and accommodating our mad cocker spaniel post surgery too.

We went to this pub as I had past it a while ago, as it was very close to our marina at Dunchurch, so had it in mind, we had gone to another local pub being impressed by its menu only after a long wait they completely changed its menu to pizza and kebabs. When we arrived at the Rose we had lovely welcome by I presume the owner so we immediately felts a good feeling, we had not booked and they were able to offer us a table straight away, the décor and ambiance was excellent and relaxing with lovely soft music, very good menu so I ordered the Sirloin steak my wife had the burger it came to us in good time, mine had mushrooms tomato and chips and a cheese sauce spread across the steak it was delicious and so was my wife burger which was close to an inch chick, I had 3 scoops of ice cream for dessert my wife was full so decline the dessert. I was so impressed that I congratulated the chef when we left as being one of the top three steaks I have ever tasted when on a narrowboat holidays on par with the Globe on the Ashby canal and the Tom o the Wood at Hatton. I highly recommend this pub there is a beautiful garden. The pub is suitable for wheelchair users, but I could not see disabled toilets. I must also mention the young female waitress in her very friendly and professional way she served us, the steak was £21.95 and burger £12,95 and worth it, I Thankyou we will be back

myself and my husband thought we'd give the Rose a try as i drive past each day going to and from work and it's had good reviews on tripadvisor. We got a warm welcome on arrival and it's a lovely pub inside. the Chef (owner) chatted to us for a bit, lovely gentleman plus the lady behind the bar who owns it also. there was a younger lady who waited on us too There were lots of yummy choices on the menu so we went for the prawns and bubble and squeak to start along with some olives. All the dishes were 10/10! for main i had the duck and my husband had the burger. Both again very good. The sauce with the duck did drown out the flavour of the duck but it was all beautifully cooked. For dessert i had the sticky toffee pudding with custard and it was one of the best sticky toffee puddings id ever had! Excellent! So overall a lovely evening. great food, friendly staff and we'd definitely be back again.

Visited for dinner on a Friday night. Lovely pub, staff ever so friendly and we could take the dog. Service was speedy (although we had to go & get our own drinks) & lovely atmosphere but the food let it down. I had a mushroom starter and it was just one mushroom not much taste, my partner had liver as a starter and it was the size of a main course. Unbalanced for the price whilst I had little he had a huge dish. We had pie for mains one with mash one chips. Pie was tasty but mash tasted like instant mash and the gravy like Bisto. Such a shame as I’ve heard lovely things & it was a pretty pub too. Just disappointed for the price we paid for not much taste.

Wonderful! We found ourselves unexpectedly out of supplies on a canal holiday so one crew member walked into Willoughby to do some shopping while the others went on to turn around and come back to pick her up. No shops but the Rose provided delicious takeaway fish & chips, gave our crew member a lift to the canal bridge, then came back to find our boat with the piece of fish they had forgotten to give her!

Absolutely wonderful evening. Myself and my husband found this absolute gem online as we searched for pubs that are dog friendly. There aren’t many around the this area so we were thrilled when we found this place. Well, we could not have been welcomed any better by the lovely owners when we got there..... with some little treats for our pooch too, which we thought was a lovely touch. We were seated at our table and the owner explained the evenings specials. Just been for an evening meal at The Rose. We come here about once every two months or so and it never fails to disappoint. It is by far the best quality food in this area. We love the menu which isn't too big and always has a change or two, so often there is something new to try, and the ambience is perfect. Tonight I ordered the vegetarian curry, it was absolutely delicious, the home made onion bajee was spot on, far superior to any curry house I've ever been to. My husband had the pie of the night, which he loves. The homemade tiramusu pudding is to die for. The prices are very reasonable for such amazing food. Please bring back a pasta dish though. Went there for Sunday lunch, the place was pretty busy and our table was ready on time. So far so good. We had been sat down no longer than 2 minutes when the waitress asked were we ready to order, we said no, please give us another 5 minutes, which she did. There seemed to be 2 waitresses' assigned to our table. OK, so having ordered our starters they duly arrived in good time, followed by the main course after the starters had been cleared. The main courses were all Sunday Roasts, and unfortunately the presentation was not good everything was stacked up with a yorkshire perched right on the top. The food quality was good but the way it was served on such a small plate made us all feel things could have been done better. We then had coffee and what arrived at the table was not what we ordered. We questioned the server and she said it was not her who took the order, my wife noticed her expression and quite obviously she was annoyed. It has to be said that both waitresses were OK but quite "curt" in their manner. Shame really because the landlord was a really nice guy.

We booked a table for two, for 7.30. We weren’t in a hurry, however having been shown straight to our table we didn’t expect to still be sat there 45 minutes later having still not ordered. We were served our drinks. The pub was not full by any means and had 4 waitresses. We gave up at 8.30 and went to our local, The Shoulder of Mutton, had a lovely meal served in good time. The pub shouldn’t book tables if they can’t serve them within reasonable timescales. Their apology lacked sincerity as well.

Last Friday evening after over 120 miles of driving, six hours on a boat in torrential downpours and a walk of a couple of miles, me and my two 11year boys were extremely hungry and thought that a meal at the Rose was just what was needed.....after turning up to a less than half empty pub and asking the surly & miserable waitress if it was ok if we could sit outside for food...all she said was that it probably wasn't possible for food inside or outside but would check...she promptly came back and said no food, even though people were sitting in the pub eating, it was only just after 7 o'clock, and it clearly said all the usual about good pub food etc etc...after seeing our disappointment some other person said with some sort of feigned apology re the food that it was ok if we wanted to just have a drink outside and they couldn't fit us in for food as a large party was about to turn up, i detected a very strong odour of BS here as a few 52 seater coachloads wouldn't have filled this place ....no it really wasn't ok me and my children were starving and this was the only pub for miles and we didn't have a car.....perhaps if id turned up in my Aston rather than our shorts and shirts it would have been a different welcome.....you re exactly what a pub shouldn't be and a strong recommendation to any other folk wanting a warm welcome and good food (or any food for that matter) should go elsewhere ..nice place shame about the staff and attitude, unfortunately I cant comment on the food

We have been using The Rose off and on for 5 years. We had my wife's 50th there for 25 people a few years ago. Great evening! Rudi and Gillian laid on great spread for us. We tend to use this place more in the summer in view of the garden. So today last minute we decided to have lunch there for my wife's birthday as it has always been a great place to eat. Well, what a change! Here we go! Cold red wine, cauliflower and parsnip soup watery and tastless, over salty. My wife had fish and chips with peas. Fish was flavourless. But they had no peas as no one had delivered them as we were told. So we were asked if anything else would suit. A limp salad was served instead. My fish pie was part of the lunchtime special. Just warm and lacked fish. Broccoli barely cooked. Chocolate Torte had mould on it. We complained about the tort and was told it was from the metal container it was bought in. They asked if we still wanted it! Unbelievable! Thier explanation did not make sense. The table next to us also had issues with things on the menu that had ran out! Not a great experiance. We live locally, owners did not seem to be around to speak to..... It's a shame The Rose Inn was not what it used to be, a great place to eat...

Travelled late afternoon for our holiday and wanted to eat out at short notice on a Saturday night. The Folly at Napton was full so we googled local area and found this pub quite a way off the beaten track. We rang for a table at 8 and a very friendly lady said table available at 8.30.We arrived at 8 and table was ready but owner (who realised we were the couple who had phoned) did state that as they were busy there would be a delay in taking the order. Fair enough, they did say 8.30 and it was busy, but not overcrowded. Dog was made very welcome by pub owners, staff and customers alike - in other words spoilt rotten. Food excellent and clearly cooked to order. Portions were not massive with one google review stating "overpriced for size of portion" but portions were more than sufficient and quite frankly for the level of service, quality of food, friendly staff and overall atmosphere less than £50 was excellent; that included drinks and a shared dessert.Suffice to say we will happily return

We have eaten here on several occasions and the food has always been very good home cooked food. There is a small but imaginative menu. Good service and friendly staff. There is a nice ambience of a country pub. Locals seem to pop in with their dogs. There is a pleasant outside area and good parking.

What a lovely traditional English pub! This our first visit but won't be our last. good menu offering a wide choice which should suit most palates at a reasonable price. The steak pie, cooked to order was delicious.

Visited for dinner with friends. The food was excellent and the young staff very friendly. It could, however, do with being more busy - hopefully the new owners will up the anti and make all nights good to visit.

Five of us had Sunday lunch at The Rose. We are glad that we booked as it was busy. Lovely cosy country pub feel. Friendly staff. Good beer (Timothy Taylor's and Doom Bar) plus reasonable wine list.Good menu choices, including very reasonable Sunday Lunch choice of pork, beef, lamb, or a slice of each for a slightly higher price. We tried all three with no complaints. Service was a bit hit and miss despite there being a number of staff on duty. Lovely desserts. Well worth a return visit. While we were there we learned that the managers were planning to leave but are staying following a change of ownership. That should guarantee the high quality and consistency.

Visited with friends for the end of month tapas evening - quite a few dishes to choose from, they say they feed 2 people, but we could have made them go between the 4 of us with some of the dishes! very tasty, hot and reasonably priced. friendly service, would visit again and maybe try the usual menu.

Went to try for Sunday lunch and was not disappointed. I had the beef which was cooked just how I liked it whilst my wife went for the leg of lamb. Both were excellent and we will be visiting again soon.

This is a very charismatic restaurant /pub and the food was very good (much better than the average pub food). The staff were friendly and helpful (though could have been a bit more attentive)Two of our party has a fish curry specially that was very tasty. The food took quite a while to come but I guess that means it was fresh.Overall a nice charismatic location with good food and friendly staff.

This is a nice country style pub off the beaten track. When we arrived it was nicely decorated for Christmas and having the open fire was a nice touch for the time of year. The food was ok, but this place is let down by the waiting staff who just seem inexperienced. When we sat down, our drinks order was taken immediately and we had some menus shoved at us. I wanted to know what real ales were available and the waitress did not know so I had to go to the bar myself and look. The pumps were covered up by a party standing around the bar so i had to walk around them to try and see what was available and established there were only 2 as the others were off. No information was forthcoming about any specials, or what was on or off the menu. The only reason we knew of the existence of any specials was because we heard this being communicated to another table. We also overheard another party being told that they had sold out of roast beef which was not told to us.We ordered starters and mains and at that time enquired about the beef owing to what we had overheard and it was confirmed that it was not available. Given that it was only 1ish we were very surprised that they had run out so early. My partner had wanted to order the 3 meat roast and so I asked if they would increase the portion of the other 2 meats and she said she thought so but this was not a very confident answer. 10 minutes after ordering, the waitress advised us that one of the starters was not available and did not bring a menu on return to have the option of choosing an alternative. She told us that there were a couple of things on the specials board and I had to choose from that with no menu forthcoming. During the service the waitresses served from just one spot at the table instead of coming around the back of us which meant stretching over our other party members which was rather uncomfortable. These days I expect to be welcomed by the staff, given an overview of the menu, recommendations made and information given about what is available but none of this was forthcoming. I put this down to poor training. It is shame really as if they sorted the service out this could be quite a nice place but I felt it was very amateurish. When my partners meal arrived, it actually did have beef on it which was surprising given that it was supposedly sold out. It was a nice bonus, but confusing.

Hadn't managed to visit for a while despite being a relative local. This is a charming character pub with an excellent menu. The chef has either changed or mixed up the cooking style a little. All to good effect. Will be back again soon.

Found this little gem on Sunday.Roaring fires, very attentive and friendly staff, lovely atmosphere and awesome food!We had the Roast Sirloin of Beef (Served pink). The meat was incredible and was accompanied by Yorkshire Pud, Cauliflower Cheese, Root Mash, tasty roast potatoes, red wine gravy and a bowl of extremely well cooked veg (not boiled to death!). We enjoy going to this pub when we are nearby, the food is always reliably good and the staff are friendly. A big plus for us is that we can have a good quality meal in cosy surroundings with our dog. The only blip in our experience was one Saturday in the Summer when we walked up from the canal to find it closed at Saturday lunchtime for a private party. So my recommendation would be to ring ahead if you are keen to go - and preferably book as it is popular.

Me and my husband went on Thursday evening for the Tapas night - what a great mid week treat! The food was first class and the service was great. The waitresses (and the owners) were always present and engaging whenever you needed them.Great selection of dishes, to be honest I've never tasted Chorizo so soft before - hats off to the chef on that dish!.....Great selection, very authentic and flavoursome! The open fires were crackling away and it was really busy in the pub so the atmosphere was perfect, can't wait to go back next month!

We eat at The Rose quite often, as luckily it is only 10 minutes away from where we live, however, we had never been to the Tapas evening....up until last Thursday, and I certainly wished I had tried it before now. It was absolutely fabulous, great selection, all very tasty, and as always, great ambience, service and value. The Tapas evening takes place the last Thursday in the month, I am reluctant to share this as it may get too busy ;-) but feel I must mention it. Absolutely worth a visit, and we will certainly go to the next one...and the next one...and the next one!

Ventured from our Narrow Boat moored on the nearby Oxford Canal, to have dinner at The Rose Inn. A bit of a trek but well worth the effort. The pub has a cosy welcoming atmosphere and the staff are welcoming too. Good selection of beers and wines available to compliment the excellent and reasonably priced menu. My choice of Blade of Beef was superbly cooked and served as were the other dishes ordered. The landlord was extremely friendly and helpful in suggesting short cuts to get back to our boat. As always, the question is.....would I return again? Yes, without hesitation and happy to recommend.

Great family meal. Lovely surroundings and the pub was decorated nicely. Parking was a slight issue but that probably speak volumes about it's popularity. I had an excellent roast as did all the rest of my family. Staff were attentive but without being invasive. Would definitely go again.

This delightful old pub retains its charm with delightful decor. Beautifully decorated with an open fireplace for cosy winter evenings. In summer months there is space outside to enjoy the sunshine. The food id first class at reasonable prices, plenty of it and nicely served by attentive staff; what more could you ask for?The owners obviously take great pride in the quality of their establishment.

Saw a hunt meet there, so they clearly support fox hunting - which really put me off and also food wasn't great - have told friends, family and neighbours to avoid this place.

Eat here regularly. Meals are always faultless, great service, and really family friendly. I recently had a Sunday roast which isn't my usual choice. It was really well cooked, and I even enjoyed my vegetables! 5 stars for the fact it's really good food and really good value, I'm yet to have a bad meal or service here. And I always seem to end up ordering desert here, despite being completely full. The ice cream they serve (Noel's of Warwickshire, I think) is delicious!
