Saw a hunt meet there, so they clearly support fox hunting - which really put me off and also food wasn't great - have told friends, family and neighbours to avoid this place.

There appears to be no single source of truth on opening times or menu. Turned up on spec for a sandwich lunch on a Tuesday only to find it very closed (contrary to all the exterior signage which stayed an opening time of 12noon and food served until 3pm). Discussion with more than one local resulted in shrugging and rolling of eyes. A real shame as the website makes it sound fabulous.

Grandborough's village pub has expected character, Tuesday evening saw a collection of car & bike enthusiasts. Has nice outdoor seating with flower borders. Food Mon - Sun. Nestled amongst quiet lanes & countryside. On way home saw that the Rose at Willoughby had sadly closed and is up for sale.

3rd time we have visited this pub ,and again find kitchen not open ,or most things not on the menu, we were given the menu on one visit ,so we chose what we wanted only to be told there were only 2 dishes available, would have been easier to let us know that at the time of giving us the menu ,landlady rude ,it seems they only want local people in there it was very obvious we was not welcome ,our friends tried it on Sunday ,booked a table for Sunday roast turned to be another fiasco

I have never had such a bad Sunday Lunch. The beef just didn't taste like beef and the vegetables were over cooked, it wasn't even well presented. I wanted to go but my wife said lets stay for pudding, it's apple crumble and custard (our favourite), how could they go wrong with that. Well they did, is was horrible but unlike the overcooked meal this was still raw and luke warm at best. The empty car park and the lack of atmosphere should have given it away.

Called in to find that ‘tonight is curry night’. It was a set menu and one of us is pescatarian so opted for meat free. It was a set meal - Thali, all homemade and delicious (see attached photo) and although not as cheap as an Indian Restaurant, it was way above the standards you usually get. Well done team!! We are very much looking forward to the next event evening We haven’t tried them but we are reliably informed that the Sunday lunches are as good if not better. Give it a go. ‘The Mutton’ is an unpretentious village pub, un bastardised by the villainous pub cos.

AVOID! Reporting pub to the food standards agency! The food was so disgustingly grim I could barely even look at it, everything was undercooked, how is this even possible!? I never leave reviews but I was so shocked when I tasted the food, i wince even when thinking about it now. I also have come across information when researching the restaurant that they support Illegal fox hunting, and a Hunt meet regularly frequent this place, for this I would give one star. This is unacceptable behaviour and would never return to this pub. So avoid for the god awful food and their clear support for the illegal fox hunting!

Arrived to find music playing in the garden at a good background level, a bouncy castle to keep the kids entertained, food still being served, quick and friendly service, reasonable price. Shop linked to the pub was also open, which was really useful. Wish we'd spent the whole afternoon there. Just after 6pm my wife went in to ask for the menu she came out to say they have changed the menu and its now pizza and egg ham and chips, we were very disappointed and annoyed as someone could of mentioned to us when we arrived that the menu was being changed we promptly left I cant see us going there again

We called in here Saturday evening for a drink, with a view to have some food if we liked the menu. We hadn't been back here for a long while, even though we live locally, but had been meaning to revisit. We chose something off the bar menu and we were not disappointed. It was probably the best gammon I had had in a long time, and what I really liked was that the egg and pineapple was served together and you weren't forced to choose between the two as is most often the case. I dont like peas, but was kindly asked if I wanted an alterative, so I chose salad and it was delicious, fresh, full of colour and came with a gorgeous dressing. My husband had the burger and this was also very nice. The food was served up very nicely and just tasted absolutely delicious, the home made onion rings were lovely. It was modern pub food, traditional but updated and fresh. The drinks were also served nicely, my wine was in a lovely big glass, nicely chilled and very tasty. The landlord came over and had a word which was a nice touch and the service was excellent. Its also great to see basket meals on the menu. My only critisism is that the place lacks polish, the car park/garden at the back looks a bit shabby, it needs attention to detail, more colour, perhaps some nice planted tubs/ baskets etc. there was a broken pot and quite a bit of rubbish around, however I know they have suffered a flood and are in the middle of refurbishing. The bar was clean and nicely decorated but not sure about the overall style, seems to be a clash of different styles, however still a nice ambience. We wont be leaving it so long to revisit next time!

This was a dinner with friends. The food took over an hour and a quarter to arrive. When it did, it was delicious, and freshly cooked, but we would have been happier if they had warned us how long it would take, or checked in with us about it while we were waiting. There was only one other couple eating, but there was a skittles match going on in the bar. When I booked I was asked if it was for anything special and had told him it was to celebrate my birthday. I was still very pleasantly surprised when a cake was brought out, big enough for all four of us. I had the pork, which was belly pork, with pork wellington, with leeks, carrots, mash and apple sauce-it was very good.

Nice country pub surroundings in restaurant, pleasant welcome from staff. Twenty minute wait before being approached for orders and being told there would be a wait for the food (despite only 1 family of 4 eating in bar and 1 couple in restaurant) - too late to go elsewhere as we had nearly finished our first drinks and were miles from anywhere else. Time from ordering to food arriving was a further 1 hour and 5 minutes, no bread or nibbles offered or available to order meanwhile. All dishes well presented and tasted nice, appeared genuinely prepared on premises. Desserts were excellent - modern style, nicely presented, adequate amount but not too much. A couple of small mistakes by man who served us, nothing serious but did wonder how focused he was on the customers. Few customers for a weekend evening, meant not much atmosphere. Not cheap, but prices reasonable for quality of food.

Love this little beauty of a pub used to go there years ago and spontaneously had an urge to visit as I was in the area. It was late afternoon on a Sunday I walk in the front entrance and on the right where the bar, skittles and darts where when I last went was all lights off and not being used. I was told to go through to the back room I see the skittles table straight away, walk in there were a handful of locals watching the Moto GP, two being side by side like it was the front row of the stands but very understanding if you have to nip in front to the loo or leave, three were around a large table and friendly and willing to chat and one half way through a pint of Guinness at the end of the bar fast asleep and it made my day. People are very different these days but grandborough is oldy worldie and the people are to, friendly, welcoming and old school. Would recommend a visit if your local or driving near by, 5 stars from me

We decided to try out the Shoulder of Mutton based on reviews on here & it's a nice little drive in the countryside. There is a car park on site. We had a warm greating from the proprietors who then let us have a pick of the tables, it was quiet but that was fine by us. There was a fairly good choice on the menu considering the size of the property. We decided on the mains which we had rabbit of the special menu & cod & chips. The food took a while to come but we were brought some toast out with pate to keep us going but we had plenty to talk about anyway. When the food arrived it was well presented & hot. The food also tasted good & there was plenty of it.

If you want to have good food served by people who enjoy what they do pay a trip to this pub. It's a fun place to go and the locals are so nice and kind and include you in almost all their conversations and they are so funny. After a couple of trips you start to feel like you really belong even though you don't live there. Peter is always behind the bar and is always pleased to see you and find out how you are. Grand borough is a beautifull village and would be ideal for walkers ending up at the pub for perhaps a beer or cup of tea. Do try this pub but check on opening times . Perhaps it would be a good point for an art group or college , there is the most beautifull church and lots of classic old buildings and new to. Do give this old pub a try and take it for a lovely old pub with good food and nice people.

Just over 6 months since my last review qualifies me to write another, which makes me happy as I regret being rather mean in awarding only four stars last year. It's the full five star prize this time as we found absolutely nothing to be improved upon. Peter and Co serve not just a Sunday Lunch, but a Sunday feast. Rarely do you encounter a Sunday lunch menu where it's difficult to decide because you want to have all the choices so it's a good job that the beer and wine are so tasty as we really needed to pore over the list for some time. In the end our social faux pas went uncommented upon as better half ordered two fish courses (Haddock starter and sea trout main) and I asked for my beef to be well done. Once again my soup was a triumph, Pea and Apple, and Chrissie just wouldn't shut up about her haddock rarebit. Peter was absolutely spot on when, in a reply to a previous post, he commended sirloin instead of the more usual topside served at most other establishments. Carved to perfection, it really 'made' the roast. I finished off with a superb Summer Pudding and Chrissie had a Brownie with ice cream which she hesitated to demolish as it was presented as a work of art.

Quite busy, which isn't a bad thing. At the time of booking, wheelchair access was requested, but it may have been overlooked. The staff resolved it by moving 2 tables to accommodate 8 guests. To be honest, it's a bit tight for 2 wheelchair users to move around, and there are steps to different levels, so the choices of eating areas are quite restricted. Food ordering is QR code and smart app. The carvery was simple and tasty, reasonably good choice of vegetables. Desserts were good, and the table service was fine. The accessibility for the toilet (singular) wasn't the best. The wheelchair had to be left in the hallway because there was no room for the chair and user to be in there at the same time. Pricing was about average. Might be a while before I go back, but I probably will at some point in the future.
