The Rose Inn in Wokingham

Went here for the first time for a mother’s day meal with 5 of us, the food was nice, however temperature of food just about acceptable and portions of chips very small. Service was very mediocre, the staff didn’t seem to be communicating with each other, as we were getting asked the same questions by multiple staff members, the service was pretty slow considering how many staff there were standing around, especially later on when it was quiet, they just seemed keen to get away. The plates were taken away after our mains and we were just left for 20mins, no one came to ask us if we wanted puddings or the bill, probably would’ve been longer if we didn’t catch someone’s attention to ask for the bill. Also they had ran out of burgers and other things on the menu by 7pm which was disappointing. Wouldn’t go back.

We arrived at 6.20pm for a 6.30pm table and were sat promptly. The staff were very attentive - almost to a point of it being overly so - we had bread and olives whilst we were chatting and looking over the menu. As a table of seven we were not looking to rush our meal and leave quickly and it wasn’t suggested we needed to vacate our table by a certain time. The restaurant around 7pm was not particularly busy either. It had filled up by 8pm and it began to feel as though the kitchen itself was overwhelmed by the number of covers they had to produce. This may go some way towards the staffs keen attitude to get our orders in earlier. We all ordered starters, mains and desserts. Overall the food was as you would expect, a standard above perhaps a harvester, but below that of an independent. Flavours were fairly basic and the starters were halloumi fries, croquettes and so on so easy and speedy to get out of the kitchen. The mains around our tables were simple steaks and two half chickens. Steaks were as expected and cooked to relative individual requests. The two chickens however were dry and not acceptable. The manager dealt with this without issue, taking one of the meals into the kitchen and coming back to say the chef had agreed they were over cooked. We were offered another or an alternative, however by the time one would have arrived the rest of the table would be finished so we declined. We were not charged for the two meals and the manager gave a complimentary round of drinks so handled it really well. I have previously eaten breakfast at this venue and it was very nice, but also a lot quieter, so perhaps the kitchen is better suited with a lower pressure situation. All in all with drinks the bill was over £450 after discounts. I would eat here again in a breakfast or brunch environment, but would not look at it as an option for future evening meals.

Despite living in Wokingham I've not been to the Rose Inn since it changed from a Cafe Rouge. I was really pleased with the service and food. Great interiors with a lovely conservatory style portion out back and I think a courtyard garden although we didn't sit there. We had the bottomless brunch and the service was great. We were topped up frequently. My only suggestion would be that they might consider doing a non-alcoholic bottomless price option as one of our party wasn't drinking so it was a bit pricey. In hindsight she could have just ordered off the main menu I guess and so would in the future. The breakfast food was really well seasoned (something I find is a rarity these days). I had the avocado and egg on sourdough which was tasty and I added bacon. There were plenty of chillis on top which I like but easy to remove or omit if you don't.Poached eggs were runny. All in all a great experience and we'll be back.

Amazing Sunday roast with my nephew, the service by Ella was exceptional, the food was brilliant, definitely will come again.

First time I have visited since the change in ownership and apart from a few menu tweaks nothing much. Good to see the same friendly staff. Portions are large still although very tasty. Lunch service was quiet this Friday, indicative of the times perhaps? A shame as it is a good venue to catch up with friends and reasonably priced. The new (to me) cauliflower nourish bowl (vegan) was very good.

Just had a Birthday lunch 4 of us. My son and I are gluten free. Lots of choice for both of us. It was very busy, but we were served by friendly staff who were v helpful. Two courses took about 2 hours which we didn't mind as catching up.

I absolutely love this place, visited numerous times including Christmas Day 2023 however this year the Christmas Day dinner was dreadful. Everything was dry and tasted like a bad school dinner. Staff are always great and atmosphere good hence why I didn’t complain but sadly I won’t be going back any time soon 😢

We came here for a family lunch today for the first time and must say it is a must visit in Wokingham, the food is fantastic and flavourful and service outstanding, we where served by summer and where checked on many times thanks to her and the rest of the team our experience was fantastic today!

Came for a baby shower such a lovely evening delightful waiter James made sure to include the mummy in waiting by treating her to a flute glass for her ginger pressé.

A group of 10 work colleagues visited on 25th October for food and drinks. From the minute we arrived, Laura greeted us with a smile and was so friendly and attentive throughout the entire experience, despite the restaurant being very busy (Friday night). She constantly checked to ask if we would like any more drinks and any requests were dealt with quickly and efficiently. She really provided us with a first class service and is a credit to the team there! Thank you Laura. The food was also fantastic, we all had a great night and will be returning soon!

I recently had an incredibly disappointing experience at Rose Inn, Wokingham, which was meant to be a special lunch after a tough two weeks with the vet. My mother had arranged a special lunch at our favourite pub to lift our spirits. We ordered a grilled bavette steak from their "special menu" and a pizza. I asked for well done. After waiting 35 minutes, we were delighted when our meals finally arrived. However, when I cut into the steak, it was very under-cooked, practically pink inside. I completely lost my appetite and asked the host to take it away and replaced it with a tuna dish instead. After another lengthy wait, I was served a sad-looking bowl of bruised salad with poorly cut potatoes that appeared to have been broken apart by hand, not sliced with any care. The tuna smelled off and seemed like it had been microwaved, though I was told it had been grilled. To me, it looked as if it had been quickly cooked without any real care, which was a red flag. It was so unappetising that I refused to eat it. I asked the host to take the meal away, but despite all of this, I still ended up paying the full price. I raised the matter with someone and though he apologised and assured me he’d pass the complaint on to those in charge. For me, it was quite clear the chef didn’t care about me as a customer. Having worked as a chef in a Michelin-starred restaurant myself, I could immediately tell there was a complete lack of care and professionalism. This isn’t the first disappointment I have had with an Oakman Inn's brand, first The Lost Boy and now Rose Inn. The Royal Forester in Ascot is probably the only pub we have experienced with consistent quality so far. Truly a letdown!

Had a lovely meal yesterday (Sunday 18th) for my husbands birthday. The food was amazing, they looked after me and my food requests. Our waitress Summer was brilliant a really credit to your restaurant, also the manager I didn’t get her name but she was wearing an orange top was very good as well. Over all a brilliant experience. Well below a decent level of food - spaghetti primavera turned up looking more like a broth with noodles with a watery sauce with grease globules floating around in it and the chicken ceasar salad didn’t have any sauce or chicken - I mean this is basic stuff. Maitre de wasn’t particularly embarrassed but did at least bring some chicken and replaced the spaghetti with something else. Wont be rushing back

Amazing every time! Been here multiple times and never disappoints! Staff are extremely attentive and make the pub feel comfortable and welcoming! Food is lovely as well as relatively good pricing. I will be continuing to keep coming back here. :)

We had our wedding reception at the Rose and we really could not fault the entire experience, from the initial planning and run up to the big event, during the day/evening and even after the event the following day, all of the staff at the Rose delivered a perfect event for us. This venue really is incredible, we originally chose the Rose just because of the fantastic, friendly and consistently faultless service delivered by the team and you didn’t disappoint for our Wedding reception. A HUGE Thank you to everyone involved at the Rose.

Great meal. First time out in ages, birthday meal as a couple. Asked for a quiet table, which we got and well looked after by James who even gave us some Prosecco on the house.
