We enjoyed a very relaxed meal,and had superb service from Sipra harna who was so kind and helpful . Food was hot & very tasty . The George is our local pub it never disappoints us and we will always return .Thank you Sue Jordan

Incredible Sunday roast Great value for money served hot ans we finished off with a salted caramel Sunday! It's my favourite dessert!!!

We popped in for a couple of drinks but ended up having a sharing board. We sat by the fire and really enjoyed our evening. Cannot wait to visit again

First visit and we arrived and taken to our table. Very noisy as there was a large party of people there. Asked to be moved and we were moved immediately. Server was very good and helpful. Food was excellent and served in a timely manner. The other waiter, Lee was exceptionally helpful and very friendly. Will definitely go again

Wonderful meal and service. Thank you to Sappy and staff - you made our dining experience at The George an enjoyable one. The celeriac soup was delicious. The boys had the sirloin and was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend.

Lovely Sunday Roast, we came in as a larger party and most of us ordered Sunday roast. Everything from start to finish was 10/10 potatoes were fluffy and meat was tender. Will definitely be back!!! Side of cauliflower cheese is a must.

Excellent service, great food with a lovely atmosphere. We love coming here. The guest beers are always worth trying!

Been to this place before and previous experience was fab. This time around it seems to lack everything mainly the service! Seeing staff spaying cleaning spray on the table whilst knife and forks where there (new sets) then wiped around it was absolutely disgusting and quite frankly no concern for health and safety.

Pleasant place, delicious food, cold beer, it was very good.

We had the festive menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was beautifully served and full of flavour, a very special and hearty meal.

Staff were super friendly and attentive, there was a group of 9 of us for a works Xmas meal and the experience was wonderful from start to end! Drinks orders taken and delivered quickly, and both festive and normal menu's could be ordered off which was a great touch. The food itself was exceptional! All 9 of us were very impressed at the amount given and also the amazing flavours! All piping hot and arrived at the same time. 10/10 experience and would recommend to anyone!

We live local have dined at The George many times over the years and it is fair to say that it has been a bit of hit or miss on occasions however this visit was excellent. Originally, we had a booking for 12 people for a family get together on Friday 7th December however four of our group got stuck behind an accident on the way and didn't make it. Despite this, our server Sapi was undeterred and waited until the very latest time to take our order before the kitchen closed just in case the other people made it in time. Our food was cooked and served in good time and was delicious. Throughout the service, Sapi was attentive without being intrusive, polite and professional and nothing was too much trouble for her. It was pushing 9pm when we ordered our food which meant that we were the last remaining people in the restaurant but Sapi allowed us to take our time and we didn't feel rushed. It is the second year in succession that our family have come from all over the country for this get together at The George and we all agreed that we would do it again next year. The food was good and the service from Sapi was excellent and she is a credit to The George and Chef & Brewer.

Just back from a lovely Christmas lunch with a group of friends from Age Uk. The food , service and staff were excellent. Thankyou

The George is a nice looking place with some good food but they could do some work on being more friendly to young families. They served our two-year-old warm milk in an open, heavy glass, which of course she dropped on the floor, and when I let the staff know, they didn't clear it up the whole time we were there (rather gross to let milk fester and start stinking on the floor, to be honest). To my eye they were neither short staffed nor particularly busy. Also, when you serve children and adults at a table, always try to serve the children first. It's just not a relaxing experience having hungry children looming over your food, asking where theirs is. All in all, if you're going to have a children's menu, try to make sure staff understand the needs of young families. Thanks.

I bought 13 people for the Christmas Festive menu. The comments from the diners were ‘ best Christmas Dinner ever!’. The George has the atmosphere, the staff and the menu at the right price. Thank you for a good start to our Christmas Festivities!

Popped in on way back from a day out Had a fantastic Sunday Roast. 1 Vegetarian Wellington and 1 Roast Pork Both well cooked and Delicious. Will be coming back soon

An extremely welcoming pub. Classic British cuisine. The folk here could not be faulted. Helpful, pleasant, polite. Quintessentially English. A must for visitors to the area. Highly recommended.

The squid starter, fish & chips, pigs cheek & toasted camembert sandwich were all good. The open fire was lovely & much appreciated by us all, especially my cockapoo, who was soggy from jumping in a lake! We had a 45 wait between the starters & mains, not sure why

We were served by Sappy who was delightful and very attentive. I was there on Saturday with my mum and auntie, 97 and 94 respectively.

Unfortunately, we were late to our booking due to the film we were watching at the cinema next door overrunning. Upon arrival, we apologized for our lateness and were told, 'not a problem,' and were promptly seated at our table. The service was excellent, and so was the food. We will definitely be returning to The George more often. We frequently visit other Chef & Brewer restaurants in the area but not The George regularly. After this recent visit, I feel this will change

Staff very good and polite Food had toad-in-the-hole and bubble & squeak…. Batter was burnt and had soggy bottom bubble was cold with no squeak !!! Wasn’t proper potatoes, apple pie with coconut ice cream !! Pastry was raw and cold…

The kitchen is open to 9.00pm. Order food at 8.50pm and you will get, “sorry, kitchen closed” Why advertise you open till 9.00pm on the kitchen when you don’t stay open till then?

Came in for food and drinks with my family and what a lovely place it was! The food was great but then friendly walm welcome from Kaya was better! She always had a smile on her face and assured we had a lovely time! No job was to big or to small for her! Thank you Kaya we will definitely be returning!

It was not the best Sunday roast I had. Portions were tiny, and I had to ask for more gravy ( which I got ). Yorkshire pudding was the worst I ever had. I am not going back to eat there again!

I have been coming here for 20 years booked a table for 14 people people on Saturday 17th September, started of OK got our meals asked. If was all OK and to be fair it was, after that nothing no would anyone like more drinks, coffee or deserts next we knew we were being thrown out, didn't even know it was last orders, just spoken to manageress (Emma) didn't seem interested said she would speak to the waiter back to the black boy next year top service.

Ate here on 7th sept 2024, have always in the past enjoyed our meals but have not eaten here for a long while. Very disappointed this time. 3 meals ordered after a long wait, first choice unavailable. Fish/chip meal hot and enjoyed, sirloin steak tastless and chicken overpowered with barbeque sauce, meal not hot. Inattentive staff, prefeffered to stand around being silly, very noisy next to glass washing machine. Desserts of apple tarts were uncooked and chocolate brownie lukewarm. Overall appearance of place dirty, doors need washing and repainting. Sadly also sat close to very noisy table although this is not the fault of the pub. Woke early hours feeling unwell and food poisoning suspected. Will not be visiting this pub again.

Thoroughly enjoyed visiting an old haunt I last used after my A levels in 1969! Excellent food,service and quality. Thank you ,especially Izzy, for making our lunch that little bit extra special. Will visit again when next visiting the UK from France.

Had a lovely lunch with friends, the food was really good … can highly recommended the vegetable tart! We were well looked after by Jordan, he was so helpful, cheerful and polite. Will definitely be going back again.

I've driven past many times & wasn't inclined to visit, due to the location on a busy crossroads & somehow the sign gives an underwealming impression. My friend had thought the same, but we were so wrong! I found it when looking for pubs in the area, close to dog walks & only realised it was the same place on approach. The staff were attentive & pointed out the doggy station, including water, blankets & a range of biscuits. The back patio area is lovely & overlooks the river Loddon. My friend even saw a kingfisher. There was a good range of options on the menu & our order arrived quickly. I had the short rib, which was melt in the mouth delicious. We had a lovely time & enjoyed our walk by the river too. We will definitely be back.

We eat here occasionally and it’s usually pretty good food but this occasion was pretty ropey. The bar service is always shockingly slow and no different on this occasion. We were waiting quite a while for the food. While in the bar I heard a member of staff telling the 3 or 4 staff members who were standing chatting in the bar that a whole pile of food was waiting for the tables in the kitchen. Another guy was waiting an age to even order his drink but the bar was otherwise empty, just no staff. Surprise surprise when the food arrived it was at best tepid served on completely cold plates. I mean food should be hot that’s a really cooking 101 base requirement. I would be ashamed of serving tepid food at home. Nobody came to ask if the food was ok. Also the guy who was hanging around the bar area who seemed to be a kitchen worker was scruffy and unkempt looking, I certainly wouldn’t have him let him in my kitchen! Won’t be rushing back.

Food was lovely, all staff friendly and attentive, Jordan was very accommodating letting us change tables and washed up a Prosecco glass especially for us and promised to order more for next time!!

Beautiful building with lovely terrace decking seats available, great service from Kaya and unbelievable food, recommend the signature burger topped with roast beef and steak and ale pie - all the beef just melts. 10/10 would recommend

My sister and I sat out by the road as the back was a bit too crowded, The food we had was fantastic, we had the roasted seed & pea humus medley with toasted sourdough and a bowl of delicious chips, the lads serving were great, smiley, friendly. Also we could see the river which is lovely. We are going back .
