I’m a support worker and took my client to the George pub. Jordan was absolutely amazing with them, they suffer with dementia and they didn’t enjoy there drink, he was nice enough to allow them to try a little bit of a different beer to see if they enjoyed it before deciding what beer they wanted to go for

Popped in here on our way home this evening. Plenty of parking, welcomed and shown to our table. Food was nice and value for money and the service was good and friendly from the 2 waitresses that served us. All good.

Came in last night as a table of 4 to celebrate my birthday. Staff were really friendly with a good sense of humor. James waited on our table and was especially polite and smiley as well as Tracy who served us at the bar. Will definitely be back for other celebrations in future!

Good food and service in traditional pub atmosphere

If you want to feel like an inconvenience then this is the place for you! Had to give the food 1 star as 0 isn’t an option as order was turned away after being 30 minutes late. Others in the party were having dishes cleared whilst orders hadn’t arrived and asks for explanation were met with scoffs and eye rolls. No rational given, before staff started to actively ignore us! Cannot recommend avoiding this establishment enough. There is no care for customers or basic service, and whilst things go wrong, how they are dealt with is the true judge, and the George believes you are at fault for their mistakes

We had a fantastic pub lunch recently! The food was delicious. What really made the experience stand out was the service. Our waitress Lara (I believe was her name) was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. She was attentive to everyone's tables and had a great sense of humor that added to the relaxed, cheerful atmosphere. It’s rare to find service that feels so genuinely warm. We’ll definitely be back — highly recommend for a nice lunch out!

My friend and I had stopped coming here untill recently because the food hadn't been that great but we have been a couple of times in recent weeks and we're pleasantly surprised at the improvement. I particularly enjoyed the poached egg in hollandaise sauce with asperagus. And my vegetarian friend loves the muchroom pie. Pleasant staff who make you feel welcome

Lovely pub! Really enjoyed our time here. The service was second to none. Our bartender Tracy was so attentive, she took our used glasses right away. Thank you Tracy and we will defo be back!

The food was fantastic, I was genuinely really impressed with the food and the service. Never had such good food from a Greene King pub. Thoroughly recommend the signature burger r just stopping in for a pint by the river.

Service was just about acceptable. The food was partly cold and partly warm. Portion sizes very small for the price. Battered Cod, Chips and Peas - small fillet of fish with hardly any batter. There were about 12 chips on my plate with what looked like the fish placed "on top" of the chips that weren't there. Tiny portion of peas in a side dish which were cold. I've never had such a mean portioned meal served in my life from a pub restaurant. My friend had Duo Chicken and said it wasn't all that. We didn't complain in case they spat on our desert. Checking afterwards, the price on the menu and charged to us was more than what the webiste says. I've been a customer for many years but never going to The George again.

3 stars for the atmosphere as it's a fairly standard pub. Hake & chips meal was as good as recommended by the waitress. Service was efficient and friendly, hence the five stars. Plenty of walks nearby, plus the open fire was lit and maintained, helping to keep the chill away.

Sharon/Sappy were excellent and extremely efficient. Lovely place to eat decent food.

6 of us had a work lunch at this very delightful pub, right next to the river. Although we had booked for inside, they easily accommodated us outside in the beautiful sunshine. Very friendly and attentive service from Sharon and Klaudyna. The food was just what we needed! Would definitely return.

Klaudia is great, really welcoming. We know her for the Leathern Bottle pelreviously and will be a shame to lose her here. It's our local go to for a quick drink and always happy to have us

Went there on Friday and was looked after by Ric & Sappy. Friendly and efficient without being pushy. Food was excellent and the best place I've found for gf/vegan as well as great for those with a more normal diet! Definitely be back.

Lovely catch up session with an old work colleague. Decided to visit as I’ve heard it’s under new management Klaudyna (assuming that’s the new manager) seem to have changed the overall feel of the pub as you can see the difference. She must be such a busy lady Great as always

Visited again on Thursday 30/1/25. Food average and chicken tasted burnt in the sandwiches we had. It was pretty quiet. Over charged for 0% peroni bottle (charged for 1 pint of draught peroni) and didn't get the right drink initially (0% Heineken bottle).Luckily the bill was adjusted to the right one when queried otherwise I would be complaining about overcharging. Original post from last year. I haven't visited for a couple of years but decided to go for Sunday roast today this afternoon. Service was slow took two hours for two courses. My dad and I had roast turkey and my mother had the Atlantic cod. She could not have the roast dinners as they had onion and garlic which my mother cannot eat and are not listed as usual allergies. The cod unfortunately was over cooked, very fatty, had very little fish which wasn't even white and was mainly batter. My roast dinner especially the potatoes and Yorkshire pudding seemed over cooked but my dad's was ok. Dessert was good I had a salted caramel sundae. Service has always been slow which is one of the reasons we don't go too often there. It is no good if you are on a strict timetable to do other things after. They also had lost the key to the disabled toilet and had to use a knife to open it. Toilets not that clean. Visited again for my birthday. Toilets hadn't improved but brought disabled toilet key this time. Stinky disabled toilet and toilet paper wasn't accessable. Staff don't listen to no onion and no garlic when it comes to dressing side salad. Also don't put dressing on salad that was part of the meal. Pie top hard and gammon over cooked. Smothered chicken was only ok as onion rings weren't great and salad was not dressed and only rocket when it should of had cucumber as well. Desserts were okay.Service still took over two hours even though only two courses ordered and it wasn't that busy.

First visit and we arrived and taken to our table. Very noisy as there was a large party of people there. Asked to be moved and we were moved immediately. Server was very good and helpful. Food was excellent and served in a timely manner. The other waiter, Lee was exceptionally helpful and very friendly. Will definitely go again

Lovely Sunday Roast, we came in as a larger party and most of us ordered Sunday roast. Everything from start to finish was 10/10 potatoes were fluffy and meat was tender. Will definitely be back!!! Side of cauliflower cheese is a must.

Been to this place before and previous experience was fab. This time around it seems to lack everything mainly the service! Seeing staff spaying cleaning spray on the table whilst knife and forks where there (new sets) then wiped around it was absolutely disgusting and quite frankly no concern for health and safety.

We had the festive menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was beautifully served and full of flavour, a very special and hearty meal.

Staff were super friendly and attentive, there was a group of 9 of us for a works Xmas meal and the experience was wonderful from start to end! Drinks orders taken and delivered quickly, and both festive and normal menu's could be ordered off which was a great touch. The food itself was exceptional! All 9 of us were very impressed at the amount given and also the amazing flavours! All piping hot and arrived at the same time. 10/10 experience and would recommend to anyone!

We live local have dined at The George many times over the years and it is fair to say that it has been a bit of hit or miss on occasions however this visit was excellent. Originally, we had a booking for 12 people for a family get together on Friday 7th December however four of our group got stuck behind an accident on the way and didn't make it. Despite this, our server Sapi was undeterred and waited until the very latest time to take our order before the kitchen closed just in case the other people made it in time. Our food was cooked and served in good time and was delicious. Throughout the service, Sapi was attentive without being intrusive, polite and professional and nothing was too much trouble for her. It was pushing 9pm when we ordered our food which meant that we were the last remaining people in the restaurant but Sapi allowed us to take our time and we didn't feel rushed. It is the second year in succession that our family have come from all over the country for this get together at The George and we all agreed that we would do it again next year. The food was good and the service from Sapi was excellent and she is a credit to The George and Chef & Brewer.

The George is a nice looking place with some good food but they could do some work on being more friendly to young families. They served our two-year-old warm milk in an open, heavy glass, which of course she dropped on the floor, and when I let the staff know, they didn't clear it up the whole time we were there (rather gross to let milk fester and start stinking on the floor, to be honest). To my eye they were neither short staffed nor particularly busy. Also, when you serve children and adults at a table, always try to serve the children first. It's just not a relaxing experience having hungry children looming over your food, asking where theirs is. All in all, if you're going to have a children's menu, try to make sure staff understand the needs of young families. Thanks.

I bought 13 people for the Christmas Festive menu. The comments from the diners were ‘ best Christmas Dinner ever!’. The George has the atmosphere, the staff and the menu at the right price. Thank you for a good start to our Christmas Festivities!

An extremely welcoming pub. Classic British cuisine. The folk here could not be faulted. Helpful, pleasant, polite. Quintessentially English. A must for visitors to the area. Highly recommended.

The squid starter, fish & chips, pigs cheek & toasted camembert sandwich were all good. The open fire was lovely & much appreciated by us all, especially my cockapoo, who was soggy from jumping in a lake! We had a 45 wait between the starters & mains, not sure why

We were served by Sappy who was delightful and very attentive. I was there on Saturday with my mum and auntie, 97 and 94 respectively.
