The Rose and Crown is a welcoming traditional pub complete with pickled eggs behind the bar! The on tap cider and Guinness were both good and the take away fish and chips was epic. Admittedly we are from the Midlands and as such aren’t probably aren’t the best people to judge seafood, but the food is was beautifully fresh, not too greasy and the portions could have kept us going for a week!

We had a holiday in Stelling Minnis in early May 2021. It was not possible to eat indoors in a restaurant because of pandemic-related restrictions but the Rose and Crown were offering takeaway fish and chips on a Thursday evening. We booked in advance, and had the option of eating in their garden with a drink from the bar. We had a foster puppy with us who barks at other dogs, so when I went to let the pub know we were ready for our meal, I asked if there were other dogs in the garden. I was told there were, so we decided to take the meal away with us. The pleasant young man who served me kindly brought the food to the car.

We visited twice with friends, whilst staying at local campsite, and had two fantastic meals (evening meal and OAP lunch). Quality food, well cooked and presented, with plenty of fresh vegetables. Generous portions so make sure you're hungry! The meat pies are "proper" pies - shortcrust pastry top and bottom, Really good value. Warm, friendly welcome.

Booked a table for dinner here for our second night as was staying at a nearby campsite. Decided to pop in for a drink after pitching our tent on the first day. Was greeted with a warm welcome from Stuart and the “locals”. Clearly “out of towners” we were welcomed in and enjoyed some friendly banter at the bar. Dinner on our second night was lovely, menu varied, reasonably priced and plentiful. So lovely to find a true village pub that has managed to survive during these hard times. Am looking forward to returning many more times.

First visit to The Rose and Crown last night. Only one beer on which was a shame. Lovely homemade shortcrust pastry steak and ale pies with very good, crispy chips and plentiful vegetables. Just a jug of extra gravy would have made the meal perfect! A lovely surprise to find that all the puddings are homemade as so many pubs buy their puddings in. Spotted Dick and custard was very tasty, a little more like a spiced sponge pudding than an authentic suet pudding but delicious nevertheless. Great value food and all homemade it seems. My wife and daughters, who are Argentine, are staying in Stelling Minnis for a while, and upon visiting this pub recently, during lunch service hours, were forced to sit and wait for 45 minutes unattended, and eventually had to leave without ordering. When she asked the waitress about the wait, my wife was told that the three other tables of diners had her "too busy" to attend to them. Considering I was there with them a few days earlier when there was quite a lunch rush, and the same waitress didn't have a problem with the "busyness," I have a hard time swallowing the excuse. It wasn't the fact that we have small children, because this place also has high chairs for small children and I have seen others there with small children. Then there's the fact that my wife is an outsider who struggles with the language and clearly is not from around there. Given the evidence, I really can't get past the feeling that that's the best explanation for their treatment. So, the food's not bad, but I won't be going there again.

Whilst on holiday I went with two others to The Rose & Crown for a Sunday roast meal. You have to book well in advance to get a table, which we did, and it was well worth the wait. The staff are friendly and efficient. There were four choices of meat, which you don't normally get elsewhere, and a variety of veg, roast potatoes, new potatoes etc etc to go with your chosen meat. Good size portions given. Definitely value for money. There was so much we couldn't actually eat at the time that we asked for a parcel to be made up to take home with us for the next day. An old world pub in the tiny hamlet of Stelling Minnis, the Rose & Crown attracts many regular locals. The chalk board menu ranges from pub classics to offerings such as king prawns in garlic butter. I chose their pie of the day - steak and ale - and a pint of the real ale. And what arrived was a huge slice of a real short crust pie, at least enough for two, with potatoes and a large dish of veg. The pie was packed with very tender steak in a rich gravy - delicious! Eventually, and with the assistance of another glass of beer, I got through it. I left in great need of my five mile walk home!Only negative was that for my taste the veg were overcooked (a problem with a lot of pub meals), but otherwise a great plate of food for less than £10. Yes, I will be going again. It can get busy so book a table.

Probably should have had one of the specials but just fancied the gourmet burger from the menu as just wanted a lighter bite. Harsh, but the worst burger I've tasted in years and left nearly half. Really was a thin dry piece of meat. Served with chunky oily chips and a side salad with separate coleslaw. The little portion of coleslaw was the best taste here.Overdose of uninteresting salad with no dressing and worst the same salad in the burger bun which sadly was like cotton wool. Very disapointed.

My wife and I have been looking forward to visiting this restaurant ever since my father-in-law attended a family celebration there and returned enthusing about the meal he had enjoyed there. The three of us had lunch there today and chose the home-made steak and kidney and steak and ale pies. These were served with a choice of chips or new potatoes and cauliflower, broccoli and peas. The pies were absolutely delicious. Large portions, excellent pastry and plenty of tasty, tender meat in a rich gravy, while the vegetables were cooked to perfection. In my case, this was washed down with a pint of Young's.Unfortunately, we were so full after the main course that we were incapable of sampling the desserts. The diners at the next table ordered cheesecake which they were clearly enjoying very much.As well as the charm of the building with its oak beams and open fire, the friendliness of our waitress and of the landlord made our visit all the more enjoyable. We are already looking forward to our next visit and to sampling the desserts.

Visited this pub because of glowing reviews on Tripadvisor. However, found it a disappointing experience. Yes we were served generous portion sizes, but the food itself was very bland. The homemade pie gave every appearance of being reheated in microwave as the pastry was left soggy. .Also frozen rather than fresh vegetables were used. The burger we ordered was uninspiring and topped with plastic cheese. We expected better quality for the price and sadly cannot agree with all the other more positive reviews. It is OK - but nothing special.

This was recommended by a work colleague, and I wasn't disappointed. It is a very busy pub/ restaurant and I should have booked even for lunch time. When we arrived at 1pm every table was taken or reserved, so we decided to wait and see if something became available and in about half an hour we were able to get a table. There is a good variety on the menu, although as time went on a few things became unavailable. We had the garlic King prawns which were the best I have had in a long while. You get a large portion for a reasonable price. We enjoyed it so much, that we have booked a month in advance for another lunchtime meal. Highly recommend it, but you need to book.

Welcoming, laid back landlord. He's friendly and casual. The waitresses are attentive and friendly. You get A LOT of food for what you're paying! Great value for money! Dogs are allowed, which is perfect as my dog comes everywhere with me! A very easy going, relaxed placed to eat, sit back and just enjoy the countryside.

The Rose and Crown is the pub in the lovely village of Stelling Minnis, near Canterbury in Kent. A great place to go for a drink, and for lunch or dinner. The menu is decent, home-cooked pub food. A good mix of locals at the bar, and people visiting for drinks and food makes for a peaceful and enjoyable pub experience. The owners - Jackie, Stewart and their family - are lovely. Guaranteed a friendly welcome. The Rose and Crown is a great place to visit - highly recommended.

I have had lunch here a few times and decided to bring my learning disabled sister here for lunch. She chose Spaghetti Bolognese while I had Chilli Con Carne. Warm brownie & cream for afters. Service was quick & food very enjoyable, will come back again soon.

We popped in on a recommendation and it did not disappoint. The service was friendly and the food was incredible. I had the Djangos breakfast and I couldn't stop eating it even though I was full. They even had lots of Gluten Free Options. Can't wait to go back.
