One of the worst experiences for a long time. The pub was cold, and, although I had booked a table for lunch weeks before they told me I could only have a snack as they were not serving lunch. Then they couldn’t even offer us some of the things on the snack menu. It was expensive and lacklustre. The conservatory was not heated. Such a shame as this pub was one of my favourites but we won’t go again.

Went for Sunday lunch with the family who live in the village. It was our first time there since it has been taken over by the new managers (we used to visit a lot many years ago) and I have to say we had an exceptional Sunday roast. The staff were super friendly and welcoming and the pub was buzzing and inviting. Food was excellent, beautifully cooked with tonnes of tasty veg and the biggest and fluffiest Yorkshire pudding I’ve ever had. Shared a sticky toffee pudding with my husband and it was divine, loads of gooey sticky toffee sauce and a melt in the mouth pudding. Will definitely be back to try the main menu on a week day. Loved it 🥰

A truly amazing pub with fantastic food and superb service. I have visited the pub on multiple occasions and have had nothing but great experiences. My most recent visit being on Sunday and the roast beef was absolutely delicious. This is an outstanding local pub with so much to offer, I highly recommend.

Always a smile to greet us from the staff who are really doing a great job, bar snacks like the crackling, scotch egg and sausage rolls are excellent This is our local pub and we are so glad that the new management are doing such a wonderful job of making our local all it could be, Thanks especially to Amelia who is always so welcoming A sign of how good this pub is, is how busy it gets!

Spent a wonderful evening with friends at the Rose and Crown and from start to finish we couldn’t fault a single thing and enjoyed a warm welcome and exemplary service. The food was truly delicious, presented beautifully and hot! I had the lemon and black pepper chicken which was cooked to order and was worth the wait, you are advised about the cook time before you order so no complaints. Would not hesitate to return and as I’m reasonably local I envisage returning with other friends and family for a super supper in the near future! Will be trying the carvery next! Thank you team for a great evening.

Me and my partner went for lunch here, had the ploughman’s charcuterie board with a side of triple cut chips. We all took away the home made scotch egg and sausage roll that were on the bar. We have just returned from two nights at the Rose and Crown and cannot rate it highly enough. The staff are lovely and welcoming, the room looking out onto the garden is perfect and the food is imaginative, delicious and beautifully presented. The new owners are extremely helpful with suggestions of where to visit in the surrounding area and the 'crab linguine' recommendation in the restaurant was greatly appreciated - yummy! FINALLY A PUB THATS FOOD IS AS GORGEOUS AS ITS GARDEN! We decided to eat in the “Garden Room” which offered a fine dining menu and we were not disappointed! The food was stunning, the flavours and high quality ingredients put together by the chef were an absolute vibe. I ordered the sirloin and my friend had the duck. I honestly couldn’t decide which one was better. We were also treated with a few “taster” treat plates in between our courses complimentary of the chef and wow 🤩 and don’t even get me started on the desserts!! 100% recommend! We will be back!

Oh dear, what ever has happened to this wonderful ancient pub? It used to be so good and difficult to get a seat, even on off days. The staff are friendly but the food was awful. I should have been suspicious when the menu looked unchanged (it used to be seasonal) and we were the only couple there. No specials on offer either. The food (lunchtime) had obviously been reheated and was woefully tasteless. Come on Rose and Crown you can do better than this, don't let this once wonderful pub go the way of so many others.

Lovely lunch with family (two couples). We chose the Rose and Crown as it was relatively central and dog friendly. It proved to be a great choice. Relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff - they did seem a bit under staffed, but were apologetic while remaining cheerful so hopefully a one-off, and we didn’t feel we were kept waiting. The dog was made to feel very welcome (and there are areas where dogs aren’t allowed too). We had two ham, egg & chips and two ploughman’s - all lovely. The beer and cider options also went down well.

Just returned from two night in the lovely Rose & Crown in Trent, the rooms are located in the old stables right next to the pub with stunning countryside views. The three rooms all had a table and chairs on the small patio area outside the room to enjoy these views. The room itself was fairly small but adequate with a comfy bed, good quality bed linen and a decent size bathroom and huge shower with plenty of hot water. The only real negative was the lack of ventilation in the room, which was fine in October but I would image very stuffy in the summer months? it could also do with a mirror above the chest of draws too...but that’s a minor point. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the pub itself is beautiful and all staff adhered to the covid19 regulations and we felt comfortable and safe during our two evenings spent in the pub. Our two evening meals really were excellent as was the breakfast too, and definitely and step up from the usual “pub grub” We will certainly return to this lovely pub located in a beautiful area, and at £80 a night including breakfast it really was amazing value for money.

Better yet, they are dog friendly (everyone - staff and local patrons alike - seems to have a dog too). But the food is where the Rose really excels. We had a very moreish and lovingly cooked sirloin as well as a Cornish brill. And the desserts were incredible: our family voted the chocolate and plum fondant the best! We regularly eat here from time to time. Had the steak and duck. Both priced fairly highly, but don’t mind paying if it is good - both were OK but would prefer french fries to the massive chips and the pasta under the duck was a bit soggy. The shocker was £18.50 for a carafe of wine !!! The cost of the wine is way over the top for an average sauvingnon blanc, for that reason may use other places locally that are a bit better in price !

Went here recently for lunch and had the most gratuitous rudeness imaginable from staff. Clearly they are so far out in the sticks that the 21stC has not caught up with them yet. I do not expect at my age to be spoken to as if I am a 5 year old by serving staff – a little boy to be patted on the head. They might think they are being clever, far from it, it was simply pathetic. The sort of customer treatment that had it not been for my family being there, I would have quite happily walked out and said good riddance.

We were delighted with our converted stable chalet with its own front door and little outdoor seating area with a gorgeous view of the countryside.. It was fresh and bright with a well appointed bathroom. The gardens are lovingly tended and all the staff were friendly and attentive.. breakfast was scrumptious !! Thanks to Jason and the team .. we will definitely be back!!

Stayed for 1 night, met by a rude woman who told me I was disturbing her when I was simply trying to check in. She said check-in was from 6.30pm! We wasn't informed of this when booking. We was told that we had en-suite rooms. There is none! Shared bathroom only. The room was dated and there was stains on the wooden table.

We had heard about this place from neighbours. An excellent meal, well cooked, and helpful, friendly, staff. Would certainly go again, even if it is a 30 minute drive from home. Bit of a mix up with the bill (we paid for the drinks at the bar but they appeared on the bill). But, once spotted, it was quickly remedied. It always pays to check the bill!

Visited plenty of times over the years and and a couple if times in the last couple months. Very much enjoyed my most recent visit, the sharing ploughmans was to die for and absolutely would go back just for this. However the time before was not so good when we visited for evening meals, with the food not quite as impressive and the prices would suggest it should be. Staff are nice.

We stopped for lunch at this pub which is situated in a lovely village amongst glorious countryside. We sat outside in their beautiful gardens. Surrounded by roses, lavender and attractive flower beds, we enjoyed an excellent meal. We were served by a very efficient waitress from Byron Bay in Australia. As we live in Australia, it was quite a co-incidence. The bread rolls were in the shape of a miniature loaf and I enjoyed beetroot soup with a creme fraiche and horseradish dressing. They have 3 en-suite bedrooms so wise to stay the night. It is definitely a pub we will return to.

Used to love coming here. Had friends staying and wanted to treat them. We arrived to discover there was a wedding in full swing in the garden. This meant we were seated in the front dining room which is rather soulless and were not even allowed to sneak a peek at the garden which has wonderful views. No apologies. I was told I should have stated my requirements at the time of booking. Note to myself: next time ask if there is a wedding on. There won't be a next time as there are other wonderful places to eat that treat their customers with a bit more respect. Lovely girl looked after us. The salmon starters went down well enough, although small portions. The salted squid was soggy and tasteless. Rump steaks and duck excellent, monkfish decidedly odd with a dusting of curry powder which didn't really work. Lovely puddings. Ecelectic wine list but not in a good way although I eventually found a passable Burgundy. The Ladies' toilet was an absolute mess. An experience like this puts you off going. Should have stuck to my all-time favourite Little Barwick, or the Lord Poulett, or the Red Lion at Babcary....

3 of us had nibbles ( large plate almonds and olives ) main ( Sunday Roast ) and dessert with drink for £90. The staff were pleasant and efficient. The food was delicious and plenty of it. I saw the ploughman’s lunch in the bar which I shall try to come back for.

The Rose and Crown was known for good food. This time, really bad food. Husband had to send back uneatable calves liver, ham overcooked and hard, eggs very overcooked, monk fish not skinned and dusting on fish tasteless, squid soggy and tasteless and it was accompanied by curried cauliflower which was so al dente as to be virtually raw. waitress who did not know that almond milk was on menu. Fish and chips off yet this was a bank holiday when they could have anticipated being full. Chips OK and grandson's hamburger not bad and he was happy with it. Husband's soup good but meal spoiled by inedible liver. I don't know if they were employing a stand in chef because it was bank holiday but this is the first time we have had a bad meal there. the bar staff were very helpful however but seemed very overworked - but at a bank holiday surely this is to be expected? Such a pity as it has a good reputation which the owners have worked hard to obtain.

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

Excellent food, friendly staff, always willing to go the extra mile. This is one of the happiest places I know to have breakfast, lunch or just gorgeous cake

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Very friendly village pub with good quality, reasonably priced food. Delicious homemade biscuits/chocolates with coffee. Welcome dogs even when wet. Highly recommend.
