As many say on trip advisor, this place could be lovely but its the dirtiest hotel i have stayed in, im afraid. After a shower, i foolishly didnt wear my slippers and had to wash my feet again after 5 minutes of walking round the room. The rim under the toilet was disgusting (i didnt look deliberately, it was that bad) and there was dust on the valance and the headboard. At breakfast the glasses were murky and the table mats stuck to the table. Please get better cleaning standards, its really off-putting and a real shame. This isnt a 5* hotel as things stand. Also impossible to use the spa, i dont consider a 'spa hotel' to have only one technician and hot tub.

The Eastbury dinner menu is now that of a clichéd gastro pub, pork belly, lamb rump, fish and chips, burgers, steak etc. The only problem is it comes at London prices, £22-£30 for a main course. The food is OK but nothing special. The wines are well priced and good. The service is very good. Dogs are allowed in the restaurant.

The setting of the Seasons Restaurant is delightful and the gardens are spectacular. However the food was really only average and therefore quite expensive. The service was first class and we were well served by Ben, Cody and Rachel. They could not have been more helpful and everything they did was very professional.

We visited for dinner as guests of the hotel. Advanced booking was essential. The restaurant has a refined atmosphere and it was very quiet when we arrived, although it got busier later on. There was more on the menu vs what was published on their website, and they also had a fairly extensive kids menu (6 choices of main course) priced at £10 including a dessert. We tried the goats cheese and octopus carpaccio starters, followed by the monkfish and lamb main courses, and finally the chocolate cremeux and sticky toffee desserts. Generally, the food was quite good, in particular the desserts were excellent. The lamb was a bit tough, but still decent. The notable exception to all of this was the octopus carpaccio. As this dish was delivered it immediately was giving off a strong fishy smell, and upon tasting it, it was obvious that the octopus had gone off. I was surprised that the kitchen did not pick up on this. Further, after informing our waiter and sending it back, there was no follow up of any sort, although upon settling the bill, the octopus had not been charged for.Service was on the slow side throughout the meal, and it was often difficult to get the attention of waiting staff. A few staff also came across as being inexperienced, new to the restaurant clearly, but perhaps even new to the industry. Our bill came to £145 of which £35 was spent on drinks. On the whole, it was a bit of a mixed experience, and I’m not sure if I would return.

I was unexpectedly invited to join some friends here for lunch and enjoyed it a lot. There were beautiful gardens to sit and enjoy over a pre-lunch drink, then we went inside for the meal. We all chose different things, but the food was well presented, all the meals arrived together and there was no problem billing us individually at the end. Lunch as it should be.

Our visit was spoilt from the start by a receptionist who ignored us and kept us waiting on the doorstep whilst taking a phone booking. I realize that the call was obviously important but her complete failure to make eye contact or even acknowledge our presence was inexcusable . The meal was OK but nothing special. The starters were reasonable and the battered fish was fine. However the tartare sauce lacked piquancy and the mushy peas were dry. The waiting staff were attentive and the garden setting was pleasant, though we had to request cushions for hard chairs

We sat in the garden as it was 32 degrees. Quite possibly one of the best lunches I can remember ever having. Starters of goats cheese and beetroot soup, and very lovely blue cheese brule, mains of lamb curry and monk fish were to die for. All the food was exquisitely prepared, presented and tasted wonderful. We even saw the chef picking herbs from the garden. Unlike other restaurants providing this standard, the helpings were generous too. Finished off with raspberries and sorbet, and chocolate and passion fruit puree. Only disappointment was the rose wine. We will definitely come again.

We were fortunate enough to have two nights in this restaurant and it doesn’t disappoint. I’m was also thrilled that the restaurant allowed us to take our dog in with us. I ordered the octopus carpaccio followed by the rib eye steak on my first evening and both were superb, presentation and quality of produce really evident. The steak was perfectly cooked and served with the most wonderful cep sauce and onion jam. Did I mention the triple cooked fries? Very naughty but oh so nice and perfect with the steak. I couldn’t eat all of my steak but my dog loved it just as much as me. The second night was good but I couldn’t top the first and still wasn’t hungry enough to appreciate it. So definitely go here to eat but maybe not on two consecutive evenings!

I fear this is a triumph of artistic impression over technical merit. This was our first visit since the acquisition by Mr de Savary and his group. We declare an interest – we are Sherborne residents! We visited Seasons before Christmas for lunch on a Saturday – the restaurant was pleasantly busy but not overcrowded. The menus seem to reflect the chef’s desire for upward transit through the Michelin system rather than feeding hungry denizens of west Dorset. And – sadly – the tablecloths have gone: wood-effect laminate tables do have their place but not, I feel, in a restaurant such as this. The starters were perfectly alright but not amazing; the main course was good: we selected the roast turkey special – it being near Christmas – and it was nicely cooked and presented, and warm but not hot. Overall, though, we felt that the menus were a little ‘off-beat’.Service was efficient and friendly, but with lapses – see later. We were presented with the menus for dessert – none of which was much to our taste. However, one of our party had overhead the adjacent table ordering Christmas pudding – not mentioned when the menus were given to us. So, when the head waiter returned I enquired and he confirmed that ‘yes, of course, Christmas pudding was available’. So having duly ordered, what was it served with? Ice cream. Not my special choice but acceptable. But then, another waiter was overheard taking next door’s order – Christmas pudding with a choice of cream, orange cream or ice cream. I managed to stop him on his way past to the kitchen and amend my ice cream to orange cream[which incidentally was excellent and went very well with the pudding]. But a points deduction here for the initial lack of information. All finished, we asked for the bill, which duly came. The waiter then went to fetch the credit card terminal but returned and rather briskly took away the bill with a crisp “forgot to add the drinks”. Now, I hope Mr de Savary’s finances are not so imperilled that the loss of £20 is going to cause him distress.I am not in the hospitality business but as a customer I know when something has to be taken on the chin.We paid as asked but it left a sour taste and perhaps I was being petty by not upgrading the gratuity to reflect the new total. So, quite good overall, but polish is required. But then, Mr de Savery is an entrepreneur, not a hotelier.

It’s difficult to see how this Sunday lunch could have been better. The roast beef was delicious and the potatoes roasted in duck fat were sinfully perfect. Sunday roast lunch for a party of 10. Table laid out beautifully in a pleasant part of restaurant. Drinks and orders promptly taken and not long to wait before it arrived. Beef cooked to individual preferences - impressive, good selection of freshly cooked vegetables. Followed up by excellent desserts. On ecriticism, we had to get away as we were all due to be at a rehearsal in Sherborne Abbey and needed to leave promptly. It took 30mins to find someone to give us the bill, and another 10 mins to find someone who could use the card machine. The reason given was a shift change, but was not a good end to a perfect meal.

I made a booking at Seasons for my daughter's Confirmation lunch. I was unsure about my choice because I had not been back to the Eastbury Hotel for a while and the last time I ate there with the previous owners, the food and the atmosphere were not great. However, we had an absolutely fantastic lunch. Seven of us chose pretty much all the dishes on the menu. Everything was beautifully presented and delicious. The really sad thing was the lack of other people eating there. Only two other tables of two. Why is this? Seasons is every bit and, I would now say, the best restaurant in Sherborne and the prices are as good as anywhere. It is a crime that the restaurant was not packed to the brim. We will all be going back soon.

Been here several times before, Sunday lunches, family get togethers. Latest celebration rather shocking considering the considerable charge for a separate dining room. Waiting staff awkward, leaning across everyone to place items on the table. One main course forgotten when everything pre-ordered weeks in advance. Having paid extra, presumably to cover staffing costs would have expected the vegetable dishes to be served rather than everyone having to stretch across a very wide table to reach them. First two courses excellent food but none of the usual choice of breads or signature tomato butter. And the desserts... oh dear! Someone must have forgotten to make them because the chocolate brownies, which we have ordered on a previous occassion, this time were of the cheepest type purchased from any old supermarket, too sweet, dry and hard, the cherry sorbet completely tasteless, no hazelnuts and everything just dumped in a glass, ie not presented as before or as shown in the photos. Rice pudding again far too sweet and the raspberry compote was another purchased product, the cheepest type of seedless jam. Coffee was not served, just plonked on the table, cream not offered and the sugar forgotten. Two espressos (ordered seperately) arrived without either saucers or spoons! Finally, no chocolates supplied with the coffee as plainly described on the menu, this is breach of contract with the customer. This meal had to be paid for in full in advance, (£1000 +) so rather a fait accompli..... Just a bad hair day? What is happening Eastbury!?? Is this indicative of management/ ownership not being aware of customer expectation and taking the eye off the ball and allowing previously excellent standards and reputation to slip badly. Shame.

Four of us ate here a couple of evenings ago to celebrate joint wedding anniversaries. We had decided on the tasting menu and were not disappointed. With a couple of bottles of reasonably priced wine we all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. As described in other reviews each of the courses was nicely presented and well thought out. ‘Fresh tasting’ was a term repeated throughout. The crab and the lamb (cooked perfectly) were particular favourites. We will certainly be returning. Need to say that although it was a Thursday and the food is not the cheapest, the welcome, service, and overall ambiance (not forgetting the garden views) of the place is deserving of more custom. Go, you won’t be disappointed.

Our culinary experience at this restaurant was one of our most memorable from start to finish. We chose from the a la carte and we were not disappointed. Our meal started with a stunning amuse bouche followed by starters of ox cheek, crab, and, between six of us, we tried the lamb rump, the fish and chips, the cod loin and the burger. Portions were judged perfectly. The desserts were 'to die for', the house wines were good quality and reasonably priced and the service was at a good standard. Recommended.

I read with great interest your piece in the latest Sherborne Times and have to say that my family and I were really excited when we heard that you were taking over the Eastbury, We are local and have dined there on several occasions. I must say that I have never had a bad meal, the food being of a very high standard but so many other aspects have let this place down, Poor service, badly trained staff and at times just a general lack of personnel. lacking a professional front of house presence. It had become very complacent as there is very little competition in Sherborne. We thought that we would give you a try at Easter and was under the impression that a restaurant manager was in place. There had been a weekend wedding so we did cut you some slack. Several wines sold out and a discount was given when ordering a second bottle of one we liked only to be told we had the last one and was given a second choice. However I feel there was no excuse for the crumbs all over the carpet and the terrible pup style tables and sticky old place mats. Early days we thought so to give things another chance we booked a table for my Wife, Son and Daughter in law to celebrate my birthday in late July. An internet booking facility great progress . Taken to a table in the garden for pre dinner drinks ,staff in uniform things were looking up. Shown the menu, a little disappointed the same as Easter but we knew the food would be good. The tomato butter is clever but now needs a change. No front of house ? We were told that the chef was the restaurant manager, how strange. It would be good for the chef to go and sit at the tables we were shown to. They really do look like they have come from a pub and once again the mats were sticky and the table base and surrounding carpet far from clean. Food and wine once again excellent but really needs a refresh on a regular basis if you want to attract the customers you say you want in the Times article. No front of house is a big mistake as some of the staff are in desperate need of some direction. We eat out in London and regularly visit fine dining establishments in Cheltenham . I am afraid you are way off at the moment. The Eastbury and Seasons should be packed with the setting and quality of food. We like to fine dine but it is about the whole experience. I prefer to see table cloths I think they show off the food. Many modern places have ditched them but have quality tables. The piano player was a nice touch but maybe better to ditch him and that silly pod in the garden and get a good cleaner and some one in charge front of house. We will not give up on you and hope it is a work in progress and will try you again in a few months.

We joined friends for lunch. One of them was highly impressed by his quail starter and rated his venison main course as the best he’d ever had - he made a point of complimenting the chef in person before we left. Another striking feature was the butter: scrumptious small tomato-flavoured, spherical works of art. For my part, I should have chosen the hake dish from the a la carte menu rather than the bar & lounge menu version which was a tad over-cooked and served with a disproportionate amount of beans. And our coffee was lacklustre. However, overall the food was excellent, the rooms congenial, and the staff excellent; and it’s helpful that the hotel has its own car park.

Tres platos y vino vino a £117.

The hotel room was a little dated but very nice with all the amenities needed, cookies tea coffee hot chocolate provided were all very nice touches, the tasting men was fantastic and catered to my allergies to fish and ham without any problem, the wine and gin we had were delicious and nicely priced, service impeccable, as a young couple in quite upper class environments like this you can sometimes feel overwhelmed or lower class but we were treated great and I look forward to going again, breakfast was also very nice.

Estancia encantadora. Menú de degustación era muy bueno y disfrutamos de los vinos de acompañamiento. Café y petit four@£4. 95 fue decepcionante para el precio, no caseros. También pedimos un Gin Gin fuera del menú que no había en stock. Es una pena.

The tea was really poor, the sandwiches did not match the menu description and were dry and had very little filling. They said not expecting 10 and yet had laid up for 10, but did not serve for 10...very strange. The service was non existent - not once did the Mgr or waitress ask whether the the food/service was ok.A shame as was a special occasion...

We were visiting family in the area and decided to take advantage of this special deal to break our journey. The usual price was over £55 per person for the 7 course tasting menu and we just over that for a night's stay and breakfast. The building is walking distance to Sherborne High Street and there is free parking behind the hotel, accessed through the garden on foot or through a " business centre" industrial unit. The room was very comfortable, the shower en suite was modern with hot drink facilities, t v and free wifi. The evening tasting menu was an interesting and enjoyable experience. There were about 30 people, all middle aged eating that night. This venue would be excellent for wedding receptions as the conservatory restaurant leads onto a part walled garden. We would return the next time we see the Secret Escape.!

We had a pre-ordered lunch booked for 15 family and friends. I must confess when i was choosing my options i was not overexcited by the menu and chose carefully, large bookings at busy times can be tricky for any kitchen but......from the moment we walked through the door I could not fail to be impressed. The service was superb, even to the point where they were trying to serve our food but had to keep it back due to our ad hoc speeches - never easy for any restaurant. The food was OUTSTANDING. I had hake - fabulous and fresh and wonderfully garnished. The lamb next to me also looked divine - cooked to perfection. Thank you to you all.

We visited before and once again not disappointed. Both the service and food great. We had a standard room which although smallish was fine with everything we needed and homemade biscuits to die for. We had the 7 course taster and really enjoyed the array of local produce. Breakfast again you wont need to eat all day.Just a small point the coffee for me was terrible and I felt £4.95 for tepid week coffee with cold milk was not the best end of the meal had two petit four within the price but a let downOnce again thanks for looking after us so well all staff fib with nothing to much trouble

Came here for dinner with my parents to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, 50 years to the day since they had their wedding reception at this same hotel.Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and they looked after my wife's gluten intolerance with ease.Despite a healthy quantity of wine and Prosecco the bill was very reasonable.

We were a family group, meeting once a year and chose to meet in Sherborne. The Eastbury is a very comfortable hotel, tastefully furnished and well maintained. The staff are delightful and the restaurant served very good food ... original, well presented and delicious.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful two-night break here in the Yew room which is spacious with a private walled garden. Although the carpet could do with some attention (it's rather stained) the room was comfortable, clean and well stocked with robes, slippers, etc. Personally I hate cushions on the clean pillows but that's just my own peeve ... We had the taster menu on the first night which was excellent: imaginative, fresh and each element was delicious. Personally I thought the conker and beetroot cured salmon and the rump of lamp with spring greens were the highlight but each course had something special to offer. Breakfast is included and I enjoyed kippers rather than the usual cooked English fare. The buffet offered an excellent range of fresh fruit and organic muesli. Throughout our stay the staff were charming and attentive. Sherborne is a very pretty town with much to explore so I would highly recommend the Eastbury as a base judging my this first experience and I hope to return soon, especially with a great offer.

We have stayed here several times and always been delighted with it - it has always been very civilised and relaxing. However this time we were rather disappointed. The tasting menu is still wonderful, particularly with the wine flight, but you wouldn't want this every evening and the meal on the second evening, although good, didn't quite live up to expectations. Breakfast, which has always been wonderful, seems not to be quite up to the standards we have come to expect and on the first morning it was a complete shambles! Most unexpected............ Our room was comfortable but seemed a little "tired".

Second time here to take in the tasting menu which is excellent , showcasing local produce but unpretentious. I also buy the flute of wines chosen to go with it...great value and well worthwhile. Rooms are fine ....ours had just been renovated as well. Nice touches like real coffee and cafetière plus also paper cups if you wanted to take a drink on the move. Staff attentive as well. The restaurant is quiet so be sure you have good conversation or a crowd with you. We chatted to lots of other guests who were also on anniversary trips .

Over priced and over-rated. Unfortunately there is nothing else much in the area. Should the opporunity arise again to be in the same area, I will try to book somewhere else. It is a countryside hotel - but I have been and seen better ones for half of the price

This time it really took the biscuit. Another superb serving of food with the worst service I have ever experienced. Arrived for 7pm booking at reception to see a note saying no one was there. Went to the restaurant bar to see a note saying no one here, visit reception. Farce. Service was playing catch up from this point onwards. A cocktail order totally bamboozled our server. Eventually we got menus and nibbles as 7.30pm guests arrived. As the evening went on, we were served after all the 7.30pm guests despite arriving over 30 minutes after us. Food lovely as usual but service tainting it badly now. Scoffing down mains as we are starving. 9.05pm main dishes just finishing and after arriving at about 6.45pm this is just not good enough. Pleased the Eastbury took on board comments around the menu and choices but I'm afraid your service is dreadful. Simply dreadful. End of.

As part of the hotel package we got a 7 course tasting menu. The food was excellent - each course different but consistently excellent. And only when it came to dessert did we start to feel full.To accompany the food we chose a very nice local wine - Special Reserve from Sherborne Castle Estates Dorset. This proved to be a very good choice and held its flavour right through the courses. The restaurant does lack a little atmosphere and the waitress was a little over friendly and attentive - but these were small points and didn't detract too much from the great food.

I came here for a Christmas do and usually you can expect a dip in the quality of food when this happens. Not on this occasion. We weren't squashed in, there was plenty of room and the food was delicious. I can recommend the tandoori mackerel, soooooo good! If this was the standard for Christmas dinner then I'd like to visit again and try the usual menu.

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support
