What a little gem of a cafe/restaurant!!! We popped in for lunch today, Sunday, for 16.95 each had sirloin beef roast, generous portion, toasties, potato gratin, plenty of veg, Yorkshire pudding, just the right consistency of gravy. And a side of horseradish. Best roast we've had in a very long time.... I normally save room for a pudding... but no... I ate every mouthful...and at 6pm was still not hungry. Staff so pleasant . I almost didn't want to leave such a good review in case I can't get a table any time soon!!

This place was fantastic. We were spoilt for choice for our breakfast and when it came it was beautifully cooked, not greasy at all and really tasty. Service was good and some of the cakes looked delicious too. We’re in Dorset for a week, so are likely to return before we go home.

Great little cafe to sit with coffee and a slice of homemade cake. And just watch the world go by.

Food ok. Portion sizes good. Menu - odd. Vibe - very odd. Decor - very dated. Not for us so won’t be returning.

Excellent service, food was incredible. I got the eggs Benedict with salmon and it was probably the best I’ve had. Yolk was perfectly runny n was well presented. Will be returning in future.

As you are in Dorchester most people would go to Wetherspoons but if you want an upgrade on food, atmosphere and staff come here this is a lovley little cozy place amazingly nice staff and Lovley food only fault was could of done with some more beans on my jacket potato other than that lovley simple British menu.There is also a lovley variety of homemade cakes perfect for a little meetup

1st time of going, was ok. I went for lasagne, salad. Very small portion but nice. 2nd time had a breakfast. Not appealing but ok. Friendly staff. Thought it was expensive.Wouldn’t go back again

We found the cafe by accident.. but what a find !!!! The staff are amazing, really friendly, cheerful and chatty… Our friend had special dietary needs and the staff gave good advice and could change the menu to suit his needs..’ The food was really nice and well presented

Visited here many times in the past but very disappointed with the food now. Had a Bacon sandwich which was expensive and consisted of thin normal sliced bread with very little bacon on and 4 pringles, not worth the cost! During our two weeks I had a Bacon sandwich every morning at various cafes and all were much better than here so we didn't go back. Shame as it was good but you cannot charge this much for such a little sandwich. In Bridport I had a massive sandwich with lots of Bacon and on thick premium bread for less money. We will not be returning.

There is a serious issue with portion sizes. Today I paid £12.95 for smoked salmon, scrambled eggs and toast. There was two slices of toast and not much agg and not much salmon. Similarly I ordered a 3 egg omelette and it was tiny.

Brunch and lunch. Visited a few times in the past. Lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Very popular. Only downside was that my sister and I ordered Macaroni cheese with mushrooms. We received them but with broccoli, which isn't on the menu! A small point but someone else might complain more!

We stopped for breakfast on our way to Weymouth, it was so good we also called in on the way back and dragged our group of friends along. Seven of us enjoyed superb food and fabulous service. Would definitely recommend and will go again if we're in the area. A year on and this is still our regular pit stop to and from the west country and it never disappoints.

Generally a good place for food. They don't seem to know how to make a flat white - always too much milk. Also when I ordered scrambled egg as part of a breakfast which they advertise at £1.10 per item they charged £3.30 without any warning. The reason given was that they had used 2 eggs and some cream - which I didn't ask for!

We use the Walnut Grove when ever we are in Dorchester, we have found the food to be excellent, the staff can not do enough for you and it's dog friendly. The home made cakes are very naughty!!!

Although we have visited this area previously we had never noticed this eatery before and having walked round the shops for over a couple of hours we were starving . It has a TARDIS like structure and was certainly a lot bigger than it appeared once you are inside , the staff member was extremely friendly and even though it was busy managed to find us a table . The menu was rather extensive so definitely something for everyone if you’re simply after a snack or something more substantial. We both opted for sandwiches, a cheese / tomato toastie and a mature cheese with chutney . Our drinks were brought out very swiftly and it’s nice to come across somewhere that serves a good tasty hot chocolate rather than the lukewarm warm muddy water type efforts I’ve had put in front of me in the past. You may ask what so special about a sandwich but like anything else if it’s not prepared properly you’ll know about it . The bread , cheeses and tomato were all of good quality and fresh which you could taste from the very first mouthful. These were both served with a decent side of crips and homemade coleslaw, again both full of flavour . I did happen to spy their Christmas Menu and it looked very tempting and was reasonably priced , sadly we won’t be in the area then . The venue was nicely decorated , welcoming and above very clean and tidy , the service complimented this perfectly . I am guessing this is independently owned which is part of its charm and hope this doesn’t change . Price wise given the level of service and the quality of the food I’d say it’s on the money ! We will no doubt be in that part of the world again at some point and would certainly have no hesitation in dining there again. The only regret we have is that we only had lunch here as we booked an evening meal elsewhere , that experience was memorable but sadly not in a good way.

Looking for somewhere for lunch and spied this place just off the main pedestrianised shopping area. Shown to a table straight away by a friendly waitress. The menu was varied and the breakfast menu was available all day, much to my husband’s delight. He decided to have the ‘full English’ plus toast and I chose the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon. We both really enjoyed the meals and they were plentiful, mine especially with a generous amount of smoked salmon, delicious. Afternoon tea is also available with a variety of cakes on offer. A nice atmosphere and very efficient staff.

WE ALWAYS MAKE A BEELINE FOR THIS EXCELLENT COFFEE SHOP. TUCKED AWAY JUST OFF THE MAIN SHOPPING STREET, BUT ALWAYS BUSY WITH LOCALS, AND LIKE US VISITORS. NICE FEATURE WITH THEIR BREAKFAST, EACH ITEM IS PRICED SO YOU CAN EAT AS MUCH OR LITTLE, OR DOUBLE UP ON YOUR FAVOURITES. STAFF WELCOMING AND WE ALWAYS ENJOY THE FOOD AND SERVICE

Fish and chips de piètre qualité. Beaucoup de pâte et d'huile mais peu de poisson. Le prix était de 11 GBP sur la carte mais nous avons payé 15 GBP car le poisson proposé par le serveur était plus cher sans que nous ayons était averti. Cadre quelconque avec une table réparée avec du Scotch.

Popped in for a quick brunch and had smoked salmon and scrambled egg on toast, it was delicious. Served with a good amount of everything and well presented. Lovely service from staff, would definitely come back again!

It wasn't my experience of this cafe stayed in this lady accommodation and was extremely unkind 2 a vulnerable adult who was homeless with a child it was very dirty the room gary was lovely could not eat in there as there was dog hair everywhere fine the first night stayed in a room with a shared bathroom that was filthy had 2 walk 2 the shop 2 eat and I showed my social worker the fridge and bathroom my child left a tiny red mark of hair dye on her unit she told me 2 go on and buy a bottle of bleach 2 clean it up her husband fully apologised as we were both living out of a bag she was that rude me and my child had 2 walk the streets until we were placed in a less privileged place

Popped in for a pit stop on a rainy day. Coffee was good as were the Tea Cakes and Cake. Friendly service. Clean and comfortable. Would return when next in the area.

Called in for lunch and ordered a sandwich with fries. My partner ordered ham, egg and chips. The grated cheese sandwich was presented in four triangle shaped pieces that were so small that it was impossible to eat without all the filling falling out. The waitress forgot to order the chips and they arrived after I’d finished the sandwich. My partners ham had an unacceptable amount of fat on it which she had to cut off. Not impressed and wouldn’t recommend.

I had a cheese and ham omelette with chips and salad. It was very lovely. Top marks to the chef.

We've been today for the most amazing cake we've had in a long time. Excellent in every aspect of staff,food and drink. We will definitely be back

This well run cafe has a wide ranging menu, including vegetarian dishes. Service is quick, even when packed, and the staff are friendly. Dishes are nicely presented and tasty.

Food was good but a bit on the pricey side for breakfast, £11 for eggs Benedict is a bit steep in my opinion.

The décor may need a refresh but the English breakfast was great, and the staff too.

We went to this coffee shop on the back of Google reviews. Oh dear. The Formica table we sat at was kept together with sticky tape. The decor was very tired, despite the charming exterior. The coffee was drinkable although the cappuccino was watery. But it was the clientele that bothered me. Almost everyone was quite old (noting that I am 62!) and they all seemed to stare as we entered. It seems this is a local shop for local people.

Lovely cafe tucked away off of the main street. Super, attentive service on a very busy Wednesday morning. Delicious coffee served promptly followed by a gorgeous breakfast. I enjoyed bubble and squeeze with bacon, egg and black pudding...huge portion that kept me filled up all day. Dad had crumpets with poached eggs and cheese with an additional crumpet, delicious! An extra coffee ordered and quickly served. Our order was perfect and on such a busy day! I can't recommend this lovely cafe and team enough. Sadly, Walnut Grove cafe is not on my doorstep :( but ever in the area I would most definitely stop off at this well run, friendly, organised lovely establishment :)

Lovely busy licensed cafe. Had the most fabulous huge roast dinner there , all freshly cooked and hot. Great tea too.

A big mistake.....to forget this where you get a good meal served by people who want to serve you. Served fresh hot good veggie choice and you can go for a blow out or fresh sandwich. Good breakfast formula you build your own. Range of jacket spuds. Glass of water fresh. Coffee not barrista clean.

Good food - jacket potato, lasagne, garlic bread, fish finger sandwich, chips & wedges. Good sized portions, reasonable cost, friendly & helpful staff

The staff was OK we did have to wait a long time to be served but it was market day if we are ever in the area we may try it again

Been going to the walnut grove for nearly a year now as I like it, plenty of space lots of lights & good service at reasonable prices, find some places in doch do everything in one room - cook, serve, take the money, coffee machine making a lot of noise, doing take aways with customers standing by the tables while your trying to eat but at walnut grove there's a separate room to dine in plus an outdoor area with tables

I can't remember when I started going for lunch at the walnut Grove perhaps twenty or more years ago ,lovely fresh home cooked food and realy naughty scones with jam and cream .

Omdat we in onze B&B geen ontbijt konden krijgen door een verbouwing, mochten we ontbijten in de Walnut Grove. Yoghurt met fruit en scrambled eggs met toost. Voorzien van koffie en thee. Heerlijk.

Had lunch here. I ordered the Eggs Benedict with Crispy Bacon from the all day Breakfast menu. The bacon was thick and crispy and very tasty. The Hollandaise sauce was very citrusy and the muffin was toasted well. My only real criticism was that the egg yolks were hard. A runny yolk really makes an Eggs Benedict tasty. Aside from that, it was a really good experience. The outside table under a gazebo was very nice and the staff were very friendly. This is a great spot in the middle of town for a coffee or a spot of lunch. The Specials menu looks interesting and there is a good choice of meals on both the breakfast and lunch menus. All in all, well worth a visit.

Hands down the best potato wedges you'll ever eat. Even something as simple as the hot chocolate was absolutely divine. Service was quick and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. If you're in Dorchester it's a must find.

Visited Walnut Grove on Tuesday, waa able to get a table and order our hot drinks/cake. A homely atmosphere, pleasant music and prompt service from our waitress. The one negative was there being only soya milk as an option with myself being vegan. Would definitely visit again next time in Dorchester
