The Rose and Crown in East Riding of Yorkshire

This has got to be the worse Sunday lunch that I have ever been presented with. We went to this pub after seeing the reviews, I am not sure if they are genuine because the food is most definitely not freshly cooked, it’s horrendous. The veg was tinned and luke warm, the meat, not even sure I’d refer to it as meat, was something like you would get on a frozen meal from Iceland!

Fantastic Sunday lunch.all freshly cooked and a good choioof meats. Very good priced, Lovely staff and great atmosphere, very helpful and made to feel very welcome

This is a lovely pub and serves delicious home made food at affordable prices have been many times now and have never been disappointed, Staff are lovely they go above and beyond nothing is too much trouble very attentive making sure everything is OK, Landlords Pete and Carl are great hosts and I couldn't recommend them or their pub more highly 😀

We went for Sunday roast and Yorkshire pudding as recommended on their website. Pudding was Ant Bessie and meat more like Tesco ready meal. Lady behind the bar forced herself to be polite and made us feel like we shouldn't have been there.

Lovely pub, great service. Ordered fish and chips, one with no chips. Was still charged the same price for the meal with no chips, I'm sure if I wanted chips as an extra I would be charged around £1.50. Overall a great meal and very nice staff

We stopped for Sunday lunch with our 3 small dogs and were so happy we did Food was lovely and very reasonable and they did small portions of Sunday lunch which was great for me . What an amazing pub couldn't believe how lovely this place was the staff were very friendly and helpful nothing was too much trouble , food was delicious great size for a very reasonable price I would of happily paid more and bosses were onsite cooking the food taking meals out such a great thing to see everyone mucking in to make this pub a very friendly and welcoming place will definitely be back 😀

Called in for food. They were only Sunday dinners and it's not something I usually eat. But they were very accommodating sorting me a meal with the bits of a Sunday dinner I will eat. I did admit that I'm just arkward 😂😂. The roast potatoes were amazing. Fab place, great atmosphere and 2 very friendly and welcoming young barstaff. 5 star

What a great pub . Visited with family today this is the second time I have visited Hornsea .The staff was extremely welcoming. Excellent Sunday lunch 5* plenty of meat and vegetables not for getting the large Yorkshire pudding . Or though didn't get chance to eat a lovely puddings , my belly was full. I highly recommend the puddings. Plenty of drink to choose from beers & Lagers. The prices are very reasonable £8 for a lovely Sunday lunch. I Didn't want to go home sat near the lovely cosy fire.

Was looking for for somewhere in Hornsea for a Sunday lunch and was recommended the Rose and Crown. So we found it and entered and was automatically greeted by a very friendly and welcoming female member of staff. We asked if lunches were still available and she automatically informed us of the meat options available. So we ordered our drinks and food at the same time, which was very easy and we sat down nest to the lovely toasty coal fire while we waited. The atmosphere was warm, cosy and welcoming. The food didn’t take long to arrive and it was a plate full of lovely hot food, cooked perfectly,tasty, served on hot plates and well worth the price. Cannot wait to visit again when we are back in the area 👍 Thank you for a lovely afternoon!

Called in for Sunday lunch really good choice of meats. Opted for the stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon spot on. plenty of freshly cooked vedg .10 out of 10.staff very good too .

Great service and amazing food! Staff were very attentive and put in the extra effort to accommodate our table of 16 on short notice. I had the lamb shank which was delicious and certainly no other complaints from the rest of our party! Also very good value on food/drinks, would definitely recommend!

Visited a few times whilst staying in Hornsea . Was without doubt the best pub we tried. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Did not try food but was told it is excellent.

Fab pub, great staff (Jess especially), very welcoming, dog friendly, and proper home made home cooked food, recommend the Sunday dinner but snack food fab too (home made chips to die for). All drinks alcohol or COFFEE and food reasonably priced. A+

I have just had the best Sunday lunch ever I ordered it to be delivered it was piping hot when it came there was 5 veg 2 Yorkshire's roast and mash potatoes and a pot of gravy and the roast pork just melted in the mouth and all this for just £6 it was worth double that so thank you rose and crown and all your staff.. if you haven't tried it put it on top of your list you will definitely won't be disappointed

Our first time to this pub, the singer was good and the drinks reasonably priced. One side of the bar was filling up with underage teens dancing around and the other side had older people puffing e-cigs at the bar. You had to squeeze passed people to get to the toilet even though there was room elsewhere and our table was never cleared before or during our stay, the odd glass taken but dirty tissues and glasses left from previous customers remained our whole stay. People seemed friendly enough and I wouldn’t say the place was scruffy but I wouldn’t return.

I called to enquire about gluten free options because we were going to be going as a large group. When o called and asked I was told they only catered for vegetarian and was a pub not a restaurant! Appalling especially in 2020 I had better experiences in the 80’s

The pub is rather dark...or gives the impression of being dark, but we were made to feel welcome and the beer was fine. Our meal was certainly value for money and was served promptly ....it was cheap but I think I would have preferred to pay a bit more for something a little more interesting...... I know I read the menu and still decided to stay!! but It is basic pub food with generous portions which will be fine for many people most of the time. I was very quiet when we were there but it was early and I can imagine the atmosphere would be good when more people around

We visited this pub last friday at about 5pm while on holiday. Good selection of beers and ciders. Didn't return due to the lack of friendliness from the older miserable looking barmaid. The younger girl who took over was lovely.

Lovely home cooked Sunday lunch. Lamb was so tender and selection of vegetables, mashed potatoes,roast potatoes,x2 yorkshire puddings, cabbage,french beans, carrots,cauliflower and broccoli. Homemade gravy. Too full to eat a desert!!! Pleasant staff and good selection of Beers

Enjoyed our visit to this pub, it was the closest to our campsite. Dog friendly, tidy. Reasonable menu, good prices. Nice to see that it was a real pub that served food. Steak and Guinness pie was fab. Enjoyed it, I’d go back.

Great for a local meal when in the area. Not the Savoy, but a lot cheaper. It was quite early in the afternoon and raining when we arrived The pub was empty, we found a table without difficulty. Wife had her usual Hunter's chicken, and I chose to play safe with a gammon.

A quick google pulled up this place for a bite to eat when passing through, so popped in. Nice little pub and really spot on food. Manager was great with allergy requests for my 2 year old and bar man was fantastically polite.

Called in here on the last night of our holiday. The pub is a disjointed mix of old world, disco booth dj and blue lights. The place was empty but our arrival didn't crack the barmaid's sour face. We'd finished our drinks before our food arrived and were plagued by flies from the moment we walked in. The food was bland microwave fayre and we only ate half of what we ordered due to continually batting away, and ducking from, the annoying flies. No one asked how our meals were or even said 'bye'. We couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Visited while on holiday. Had driven past a few times and decided to try and was pleasantly surprised by the welcome and the food. Very good value for money. Would not hesitate to call again.

Spending my birthday in Hornsea, it was clear there was no "grand eating" to be had, but the Rose and Crown was just round the corner from our accommodation, so we went there. A traditional pub, and rather dark inside but it was relatively quiet on a Monday evening and we had a very pleasant evening, doing our best not to be distracted by the 2 TV screens with separate programmes (there was also very gentle background music). The meal was fairly standard pub food but excellently cooked and presented, though, as ever, far too many chips. The service was reasonably speedy. Lager was delicious and icily cold. An enjoyable 2 hours was spent there.

Lovely welcome from bar staff, friendly and helpful. Really good lunch served, we all had something different- even cooked the dogs some sausages!! Would recommend!

First time we had been to this pub we could not believe how nice it was the owners and staff were so friendly the food was fantastic and good value for money we will definitely be going back again and again and we can even take the dog in a special area which we good too

First called for a drink here a couple of years ago. It was nearly empty and staff were unfriendly. Heard new people had it so called in for Sunday lunch. It was really good. We had roast beef and we struggled to eat it all - a shame as it was lovely. Staff friendly. Called since for drinks and Yep we will be back for more food.

Not such a nice sunday lunch .. luckily I had a pint to drink the dryness off the beef down too. I like crispy roasties but i prefer them with potato in and not 5 days sat on side then microwaved

We visited on a Sunday for something to eat. They serve lunch between 12 and 5 but only offer roast dinner which includes lamb beef gammon and chicken. Big portions but you can opt for a child’s plate. The food is very good quality and we will definitely return. The pub does allow dogs and there was at least 4 or 5 at the time of our visit. The only moan I would have about this is the person who constantly let their dog moan. Clearly the dog didn’t enjoy the surroundings but this is no fault on the establishment. It was busy but for £6 for the roast dinner and quality you can understand this

Ordered 2 lamb dinners 6 pounds each! Which was a surprise so cheap we was served lamb off the bone beautiful also 2 Yorkshire puddings cabbage Coli carrots green beans mash. Mash a bit lumpy but other wise excellent. I’ve paid 12 pounds for this and not as nice. Would I come again definitely 9 it off 10 for me thank you.

Having used the Rose and Crown many years ago it and see it deteriorate, it was refreshing to be invited to try it again by the new landlords and see the difference. We called in for sunday lunch, the bar staff were very friendly and welcoming and choice of bar drinks good. We ordered a selection of choices, you have a choice of two sized meals which I found good, not everyne wants a large meal. The choice of meats was also good - Chicken (real chicken not preformed joints), Beef, Pork or Lamb and for an extra £1 you can have two meats, two meats not just a bit of both. Real vegetables and a good selection -together with Yorkshire pudding and delicious gravy. The meal was excellent, we couldn't fault it and all said it was probably the best to be had in the area now and at a very reasonable price. We wish the new team well and will return.

Went to the rose and crown after an afternoon shopping and genuinely wished we hadn’t! We ordered the duck and steak. A good vet could have resuscitated the duck and the steak would be a good substitute for bubble gum. The front of house made us feel very unwelcome and the creases on his suit resembled a cheap bin bag from Aldi. On my next trip shopping I will play it safe and just call at McDonald’s drive through or something.

Just left the Rose and Crown in Hornsea 31st August, my wife had Omelette and chips with salad and I had Cornish pasty peas and chips, I had a pint of Marsdens Pedigree and my wife had a half of lime and soda, I payed around £13.00. the food was to die for especially the home made chips, plenty parking at the back of the building, we could not fault the meals, very friendly staff on hand, also outdoor seating great in the evening sun, we will use this pub again, Brian

Went here with my partner and daughter, ordered 3 different meals all very nice and a good size with a price between £5 and £6.50.we will be going back

Having recently moved to Hornsea and have been looking for somewhere for a good Sunday lunch. So pleased I found The Rose and Crown as local options are surprisingly thin on the ground.

Service fine, food ordinary. We cooked at our apartment the rest of our stay because this was ajudged the best in Flamborough on Tripadvisor so did not bother to try the rest of the pubs. Local shops had all we needed to produce our own meals of far superior quality to the microwaved pap.

After reading glowing recommendations,we made a special trip to Hornsea only to find that at 1 pm the pub was in darkness.On the website it says that it is open 11 am through to 12am?

We discovered this little gem one cold wet day in October. A roaring fire, a warm welcome & the best pub food we have come across in many years. Real chips, lovely home made pies, a chicken burger consists of a real chicken breast... what more can I say. We highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys real british pubs and avoids the big chain pubs with ball pools etc!
