The best Sunday roast I've had out by far in a long long time. The staff are friendly enough, could be nicer, the venue is nice and clean, but not the most amazing, the food was so nice I will return. Great prices and efficient service.

Bit disappointing. Sat in open marquee, aside to car park. Fumes from a smoker and car exhaust not great. Inside pub looked lovely and cosy though. Service not great. Asked for second set of drinks - not received so asked again. Same with desserts. Nut roast for veggie was very disappointing - spicy slop. 3 in party were happy with their meat roasts, but not so with desserts - cold custard and small portions. Note NHS discount only for person eating, even if paying bill for whole family. May try again, as could have been a one-off, but not for Sunday roast.

Despite its relative closeness to our home it is surprising we had not visited the Rose and Crown before. In fact had it not been spotted their menu includes muscles, we probably would still yet have to visit it; that would have been our loss. The Rose and Crown proved to be a delight, airy, clean and welcoming. Somewhat of a family affair, we were greeted by a lady preparing the tables sited at the front of the building, the landlord's mother. The menu is an interesting one, offering a range of different dishes. Our selection for starters: Muscles, and King Prawns wrapped in bacon - both were well cooked and very tasty. The main courses were Skate Wing, and Battered Cod. The Skate was so good it seemed to vanish with indecent haste. The same could be said for the Cod but only half of it could be finished before a stomach full of muscles cried for mercy - no more was the plea. We will return to the Rose and Crown, it is only circa five miles from the centre of Chelmsford, easy to find and very reasonably priced.

Visited the restaurant for lunch this week as part of the dine out deal. Both service and food was exceptional. We hadn’t booked, but could see there was quite a few tables free outside. Although they were more than happy for us to come in, I’ll be sure to book next time. Social distancing was excellent, with a outside order/pay point during peak periods. Also have to say what a fab job they’ve done with the outside space they had. Service was very prompt and friendly and the food was to their usual high standards. Have visited a few country pubs during the dine out deal and have to say this has been the most organised one we’ve been to so far. Will definitely be visiting again.

Went there on a Friday evening with a couple of friends at 7pm for a drink but there was nowhere to sit. Instead there were empty tables with 'reserved' signs on them. Felt unwelcomed if you weren't eating. Won't be our first choice next time we fancy a beer on a Friday.

Lovely country pub with lots of character, drinks prices a bit overpriced, limited wine selection. The variety of food on menu is good some dishes can be a little bland but overall quite good value. Side decking is nice and so is the front garden but for the busy main road and the noise it brings sometimes. The service is generally good except for the EXTREMELY rood older butch looking woman ( I overheard someone call her Mandy) who absolutely ruined our families day with her pretentiousness and arrogance, she was actually very aggressive and confrontational! why on earth would a sweet little pub employ such a person to serve the public. I felt obliged to post this so customers can prepare should you decide to visit, it’s a real shame this was our experience.

I went with my mum and 1 year old for lunch. We both ordered seafood risotto from the specials menu plus a cottage pie from the children's menu. All the food was cooked fresh, turned up piping hot on warm plates, including the children's meal. Our risottos were a good portion, cooked to perfection with plenty of seafood. The children's cottage pie was thoroughly enjoyed, it was home cooked with proper gravy, plus a great selection of veg. We were able to take the remainder of the cottage pie and veg home in a container they kindly provided, so I could warm it up for dinner. The salted caramel cheesecake was also very good and the service was excellent. If you are looking for fresh, hot and tasty home cooked food, look no further!

First visit for me and my partner but the other couple with us live nearby and recommended it. We all enjoyed our lunch, 2 x fish pies, turkey roast and a cottage pie ( only one dish of vegetables to share between four, our only gripe ) Puddings were also delicious and devoured. We recommend a visit to this friendly, great atmosphere pub and look forward to returning.

We first visited here in March 2017 and after a long absence we returned on Tuesday bringing my aunt and uncle with us. We were seated in the restaurant area. The whole pub is immaculate and well decorated. There was an exceptional specials menu to complement the classic menu. The food was exceptional. We enjoyed steak pie, swordfish, lamb shank and risotto .Everything was served hot and well presented. Fresh vegetables accompanied the meals and the portions were generous.3 of the party enjoyed traditional puddings with custard and I had a very good cheese plate. Service was friendly and helpful. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours on a wet and windy Tuesday .If we didn't live so far away we would visit more often. We made a special trip from London collecting my aunt and uncle from Grays to visit on Tuesday. Highly recommended

Found this delightful dog friendly pub on an trip into the Essex countryside. We were made very welcome with our pooch. So much so, Daisy settled quickly and was soon fast asleep under our table in the bar area. An antcipated bar snack transformed into an a super lunch in a very friendly and cosy environment. Scallops perched on black pudding with a peppercorn sauce were cooked to perfection, and the generous sized burger I'm told was excellent too. The pub appeared equally popular with lunch time drinkers. If you live close by, you are very fortunate to have such a gem in your community.

We visited the Rose and Crown just by luck by looking up pubs with food in the area. On arrival the pub was very busy as a staff member was celebrating a birthday. The very friendly manager sat us down at a quieter table. My husband and I both had the grilled Skate wing with capers, which was excellent and rivalled any fish served at a top fish restaurant. We will definately be going back.

This pub/restaurant has a very warm and welcoming feel to it, with very charming and helpful staff. I visited here for lunch with my wife and her Dad and Step-mum last Saturday, and the selection from their Xmas, Specials and normal menu's was staggering, which of course meant we spent some time to make our choices. The service was excellent (big thanks to Kayleigh), even though the pub was quite busy, and the quality and the quantity of all our meals was brilliant, thanks to some obviously highly talented chefs. Sadly there was no room for dessert, as this menu also looked very exciting.

My husband and I called in at this lovely little pub after walking and working up an appetite. What a good choice. The home cooked turkey, bacon and leek pie came with new potatoes and a selection of vegetables. The pie crust was light and crisp and such a huge portion, we had difficulty finishing it all. Would thoroughly recommend this pub for good British home cooked food.

Went with another couple, on a Friday night, quite crowded. Service quite good, very pleasant, drinks reasonable, rather an extensive menu for a smallish pub. Two of us had the fish and chips, chips nice, peas both fresh and mushy acceptable, but the fish batter was overcooked and greasy on the outside, thick and soggy on the inside. One had fish pie, potato and cheese very nice, but the fish was conspicuous by its absence, just a few small pieces of salmon and a bit of non descript white fish, no more. The last dish was skate wings, which were OK but a tad greasy. Didn't try the desserts , wont go back there again in a hurry on a Friday night!

A welcoming pub with a good choice of drinks. Recently, with 5 others booked the "Snug" which is a cosy room to have a meal which is separate from the main restaurant. Everyone ordered something different off the menu which is very extensive. All food is cooked to order and the chefs are very accommodating, especially for my various requests! All of us loved the food and have said we'd all go back again. A lot of work has been, and is being done updating in a sympathetic manner making a lovely atmosphere. All in all a lovely traditional pub where you can still feel welcome to eat a meal in the bar area as well as the restaurant.

We stumbled upon this very appealing gastro delight one evening last week. It was their pasta night. Hasten to say we did order pasta. It was superb. The service was first class and very friendly. Even the chef came to ask if we were enjoying our food. Then along came the proprietor who was delighted to meet us too. How lovely too was the very tasteful decor. Thoroughly enjoyable food and very good value. We are going back tomorrow for another gastronomic delight.

Visited for a weekday family lunch. This is a quaint village pub with a roaring real fire. Very welcoming on a cold day! A good selection of ales at the bar at average prices. The pub clientele was clearly elderly villagers. Not a great deal of atmosphere but it is definitely a hub of the community. I was given three menus to choose from, bar food, specials and a la carte and oh what a huge choice! I chose seafood thermidor and rice and my fellow diners had pie and mash and liver and bacon. My thermidor was very tasty and filling but very oily and I left most of the sauce because of this. The others ate everything with no complaints. Vegetables were fresh and all food arrived hot and a good sized portion. All in all a great little pub offering a good menu at reasonable prices. Worth calling in for a bite to eat after a walk. Dog friendly too.

Previously visited the Tearooms when they were located outside the front of Perry Court. The food was excellent and cheese, chutney sandwiches were huge and fresh. Has to be said for the new cafe the staff are great - however the new sandwiches are appalling. Cheap supermarket, sliced bread and a smattering of grated cheese for ££. Phenomenally expensive. A huge disappointment and wouldn't return.

We had a very good meal at The George at Molash; we were welcomed on arrival and shown to our table, the service was very efficient and the waitresses were professional but also friendly. They looked after us superbly. We chose our meals and these took a little time to come out but we were not worried about this as we were chatting and food was cooked freshly to order. Other tables were informed about a wait for some foods as they were cooked freshly to order. This didn’t affect us too much as we ate quite early - table was booked for 6.30pm. The pub was very clean and tidy. The portions were good - for both dinner and we had a dessert. We finished the evening with herbal teas and were shown a selection to choose from. Overall we had a very nice evening at The George, and had good food, service and atmosphere.
