We came across this pub because our planned lunch venue wasn’t doing food. Well what a serendipitous find! This pub is a good pub, no frills, no gimmicks just good food, comfortable surroundings and pleasant staff. We had the sandwich and soup option both were perfect and good value for £9. Uplifting to find a pub that ticks all the boxes. We will return!

Stopped for lunch but not great. The Coronation Chicken salad was not something I will order again, no taste and the chicken tasted like a very low coast roast chicken plus it had a slimy skin on it. Fish and chips hmmm bit like Weatherspoons.

Four ‘ladies that lunch’ we have eaten here before and always had a good meal. This time the fish cakes with poached eggs and Hollandaise sauce were available, delicious really good, no need for extra fries. Please note they are not always on the menu, they are made fresh and not in vast quantities.

This pub is a hidden gem well off the beatable track. It’s spotlessly clean with well kept ale and good food from an interesting menu. The staff were efficient and friendly, particularly the young ladies who were serving the food who ensured that I had everything I needed to enjoy my meal. The Rose and Crown is well worth a visit, and I will definitely be returning.

I visit this pub with a group of friends every few months. The food and service is always excellent. This was the case again at our most recent visit. One of our party was delighted to see fish cakes on the menu! Three of the party also praised the puds. Only grumble is that cheese is only available as a platter for two. Shame as I would have had a single portion but opted for a coffee instead.

This is a proper pub. Good beers, good wines, good food and good prices. Even when busy the staff were polite, helpful and efficient. Mick who runs the kitchen gives you a sensible choice of dishes that he cooks himself. His Kerelan fish curry is a knockout. No nasty music, just a lovely atmosphere.

this place was recommended by some friends of mine so I went. It was a very sunny day and all I was after was a nice salad. I found one on the menu board ( Cesar Salad ) but when I was trying to order I was told chicken is only for customers who have booked a table???? I pointed out that I was only having a salad, still no chicken for me. Since when do you use roast chicken for a Caesar salad??? This reminded me of my time working in the old Eastern Block countries. A fantastic menu but nothing available unless you know someone from the political party. A very disappointing visit!!!! A disclaimer on the menu board is the least you should have. I was able to order a salad with ham but what came out hardly looked like a salad, zero imagination. In times like this you should e happy to have customers who are willing to spend money.

Since I live in the area, I have been a semi-regular customer other Rose and Crown at Ivanhoe for many years. However, of late – and particularly on a Sunday lunch time– I have encountered a rather unprofessional and unsavoury practice that surely is guaranteed to put a customer’s back up. Although the menu clearly states what food is available, when one come s to order a Chicken Caesar salad for example, I was told that “chicken is reserved for those who have pre-booked” (and there is no sort of disclaimer on the menu). The reasoning appears to be that it is not that that particular dish is unavailable despite being on the menu, but rather a key ingredient is reserved for someone who has pre-booked a table, and therefore may or may not actually turn up, or indeed may or may not order a dish with chicken in it. I have never encountered such ridiculous policy before, which seems to treat its customer with utter contempt. I was not the only one to voice my displeasure, as when I later passed through the bar, I overheard a lady (who I suspect was from overseas,) was seriously remonstrating with the bar staff over the same issue. However, a rather unattractive and older white haired woman – who I assume was a local resident and therefore got to the chicken first – seemed to find this all rather amusing. So my advice I don’t go there, as obviously you custom is only welcome in possible preference to others and when it suits the owners. Hospitality is obviously not the Rose and Crown’s real business, rather it is only taking your money.

Very small village pub with little parking. Menu was interesting, quirky and not very varied but how could i go wrong with Chicken milanese? I requested a half portion of pasta which was a good move. Sadly the big lump of breaded chicken on my plate bore no resemblance to the elegance of a normal milanese fillet, thin and breaded. This was a huge breast of overcooked chicken. The pasta was barely warm as was the sauce but overall they tasted ok. My husband’s fish curry was better, decently warm and averagely tasty…. Trying again we followed this up with a pavlova but had to request cream as apparently pavlova are made with ice cream? Who knew? The pavlova was heavy with overdone meringue and, i think, tinned fruit? Nothing fresh or light about this dessert! The staff were lovely and very friendly, its a shame the food was nowhere near as good as the service. Our little foray out to try somewhere different was not a huge success sadly

The menu is on a board and features a short but varied selection of pub standards (fish and chips, ham, eggs and chips etc.) and more interesting fare, such as keralan fish curry. We had the burger, fish and chips, prawn and chorizo pasta and chicken milanese. All delicious. The puddings were equally impressive- Toblerone cheesecake, treacle tart and sticky toffee pudding. Without making a booking, we decided to try the Rose and Crown for dinner and we were so glad we did. The pub was very busy, but we were lucky and secured a table in the beer garden which had just been vacated. Soon after ordering, a friendly young lady brought our cutlery and condiments out to us and said our food wouldn’t be too long. I went for the ham,egg and chips and what struck me first when it arrived was the effort that had gone into presentation. Dressed with finely chopped tomatoes and spring onion, it really did look good and it was. Some quality thick ham, creamy fried eggs and nice chips, not the frozen type. My wife is vegetarian and had the ravioli. Again, nicely presented and apparently very tasty. Neither of us had intended to have a dessert, but when some were brought out to a neighbouring table, they looked so nice so we changed our minds. A nice cheesecake and an Eton mess type pudding. Generous portions and tasty too. This is such a great little pub and clearly popular, it has a nice buzz about it. We had contact with three members of staff and each was friendly, helpful and efficient despite how busy it was. For three alcoholic drinks, a coffee, two mains and desserts, the bill came to just £55. Very reasonable for a lovely evening out.

Lunch for two on a lovely sunny Sunday was my first visit to the Rose and Crown in the sleepy little hamlet of Ivinghoe. It may have been my first but not my last . From the moment we stepped into the small b quaint bar the staff were welcoming with a smile. Although I had booked an inside table we asked if we could swap to an outside table. No problem ( Tick). The service was first class ( Tick), the staff engaging and chatty ( Tick), the food excellent ( cooked by the landlord - Tick) and very fairly priced ( from £12 for mains £6:50 for desserts) ( Tick). The only glitch I was overcharged, but that's my fault for not checking my bill there and then. The next day when I realised how much I'd be charged, I phoned just to check if the amount correct, the landlord dealt with it personally, emailed me back within the hour ( as promised - Tick) and apologised most profusely for the error and offered me a refund. I was so pleased with the level of customer service and professionalism overall but in particular with they way in which my query was handled I decided to book a return. Mistakes happen, but it doesn't matter what the mistake is, its how its handled that matters. 10/10. ( TicK).

We popped into here for a quick drink one lunch time and the food smelt amazing so we booked in for a meal on the Friday night. The pub has been transformed from how I used to know it, it's doubled in size and has a decent yard garden out the back. We sat in the main dining room on a tiny table, unfortunately right under a speaker and we were moved to a much better table. The menu is on a board by the door so there was a lot of people moving about to read that and we found, as there were no specials, the menu was a bit limiting. We shared a whitebait starter which was huge. I had the ravioli and my husband the sea bass and we shared a sticky toffee pudding. It was all decently cooked and obviously very popular, just not that exciting. Most of the menu I'd cook at home. They have a great beer and gin selection and we will probably go back for lunch sometime.

The Rose & Crown is hidden away down a back street, close to the centre of Ivinghoe and well signposted so it is not difficult to find. It's a cosy, traditional pub with two distinct areas around a single bar and a small courtyard for al fresco drinking. There are four handpumps with a good range of ales, some of which are from independent local breweries. The blackboard menu is imaginative and varies day to day, most meals priced at £11 with a few slightly more expensive items. I enjoyed an exceptionally good Kerala Fish Curry served with basmati rice. Staff here are welcoming and friendly. A very good pub, well worth a visit; for me it doesn't quite hit the heights needed for a 5 star rating but if halves were allowed I would happily give it four and a half stars.

Met a colleague as this was halfway between us. Thoroughly recommend. Owner, staff, beer, food, cleanliness, ambience - all excellent - well done. Great pub!

Dragons blood. The perfect Halloween beer 😊 Easy place to find. Just follow the brown signs. Great pub, nut just for beer, but is on the CAMRA guide.

We've eaten here several times now in the evenings and weekends and the food never lets you down. Great service and quality every time. In addition to the food it's just a really nice, clean cosy little pub with a good selection of beers as well as the "norm".

My husband & I booked at the last minute for a Sunday Lunch, at this friendly Pub. We were not disappointed, we had the chicken/beef roasts, with your usual sides & delicious cauliflower cheese. The staff were warm, welcoming & attentative. Puds are to die for too!will definitely return - keep up the good work guys!

Great Lunch here. Very friendly staff and delicious homemade food. I had Kerala fish curry and my companion had carbonara tagliatelle. Both were excellent. Ales were good too!

Everything about this pub was wonderful. We booked at the last minute and they were kind enough to squeeze us in. I’m so glad they did! We got an extremely friendly welcome and the food was outstanding, with a bill that came to far less than we would have expected from somewhere like this. We’d especially recommend the Camembert to start! Thank you for a really lovely evening.

Once through the door the publican gave us a warm welcome and we were immediately in the special atmosphere of this amazing pub transported to first class experience. Having booked a table for four for dinner, we chose our menus and were blown away by the home cooked food. Each dish was totally to die for, all freshly cooked (nothing out of a packet), totally delicious, flavours that lingered and beautifully presented. Don't let the traditional façade food you. If you're a foodie this venue should be at the top of your wish list.

Great Lunch here today, friendly staff and delicious homemade food. The baked Camembert shared starter was particularly worth a mention and the service was friendly too. Would recommend

We stayed in Ivinghoe for the week so the Rose and Crown was our local pub. The friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere and lovely food were well worth going back for. The roast beef for Sunday lunch was really nice, with plenty of vegetables on the side. The desserts were delicious and even the teenager enjoyed the food. Would recommend coming for a meal after climbing the Ivinghoe Beacon!

We had Sunday Lunch a few weeks ago, and went back last weekend to celebrate a friends birthday. The food, service, staff, even the locals are all wonderful, we have never felt so at home in a lovely cosy traditional style pub.. off the beaten track but well worth a visit...

Yummy food at a lovely pub in such a beautiful area. The roast was tasty and the right portion. It is worth the diversion off the A1

Nice quaint pub with nice small beer garden. Some excellent food (ravioli was superb, chips with skin on delicious) but the battered fish was very disappointing with a thick soft oily batter and over cooked fish.

Food was good and service spot on. Menu is limited, but that’s probably not a bad thing. Nice decor with a great garden. I’d return if I was in the area.

4 of us had lunch here a couple of weeks ago . The food was excellent and the service matched. One of our group had a health issue and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and understanding. Cannot praise them enough.

My experience here has truly been delightful. Food, staff and atmosphere are always on point. Ali and Rene the proprietor's of this quintessential english pub have made it a vocal point of the village and community.
