We have visited the Rose & Castle on many occasions and always had a great experiece both food and with customer service . The gentleman that is normally front of house and the reason I am sure you get repeat custom was not in this evening . The visit today also a birthday celebration was totally the reverse, the lady front of house, we felt was quite rude and couldn’t wait for us to leave . At 9:45pm we were told that they were shutting even though we still had drinks to finish. Such a shame to have had such a poor experience

The Rose and Crown looks and feels like a pub but describes itself as an 'eatery'. Atmosphere is very much that of a pub and the food, selected from wipe-clean menus, is that of a pub. Menu was simple but food was good. Service was friendly but not particularly attentive. Our bottle of wine was plonked on the table for us to open and serve ourselves, dirty plates were left quite a while on the table and we were never asked how the was. It wasn't particularly busy. We thought the prices were reasonable and we certainly didn't feel rushed.

Cannot cook a steak - don’t ask how i would like a steak if Chef only capable of cooking medium-well rather than rare. 3 steaks ordered - none cooked as requested. Disappointing considering the cost of a Fillet.

We cruised down the canal and found this pub/restaurant on Google Maps. We moored and took a short walk not knowing what kind of establishment we would find. What an absolute GEM. Be aware Mon to Fri restaurant only opens 6 till 8pm. The menu selection is vast with numerous 'home made' items. We had 4 different main courses all of which were cooked perfectly. On to the Desserts - again four different and all to die for. As cocktails were on offer we sampled maybe six. Delicious. Final bill was well within expectations of a restaurant this good. The staff were friendly, welcoming and efficient. Wait time - well we had time to blink a bit 😁. Highly Recommended.

Came here on a Wednesday evening to meet some work colleagues. It was very busy for a week day so definitely recommend booking a table. The staff were all very chatty and friendly. The food was great and there was so much choice. I ordered the fish and chips and it was huge!!! I couldn't finish it but still ordered a pudding. The honeycomb cheesecake was amazing. It was my first time here, would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Family meal out to celebrate my birthday with husband, 2 sons and daughter in laws, what an amazing pub. Lots to choose from on the menu, we all had something different and all meals were excellent, hot and plentiful. Desserts were exceptional and if you were too full you could take it home. The waitress who served us was so lovely, very polite, respectful and attentive. Would recommend 100%, love the pictures on the wall too. Many thanks and can't wait to return😊

Very quiet yesterday evening which surprised us as the restaurant is normally very busy. There is so much choice on the menu. Would have liked dessert but too full after main course.

Staying nearby for one night on business, the hotel menu looked limited and expensive, so I wandered down to the village and found this gem. It’s really hard to find good quality food nowadays with so many restaurants about but wow just wow is the main review of the food! It’s nice to see when it says homemade it comes out looking homemade, we came as a party of 8 with a high chair and all the food came out at the same time, hot, and looking great, special mention to Alfie our waiter who bless him has to repeat things 3 times because we couldn’t remember what we ordered. My husband said the Beef Wellington Pie was the best pie he had ever eaten! Thank you and we will be back again

Visited this pub on our boating holiday and can not fault the experience. This was our first time eating out in 4 months and it was fab! The staff were so diligent in keeping social distances and the cleaning procedures were faultless. It says they are operating a reduced menu but it looked very comprehensive to us. If you want a good meal when in the Coventry Canal, this is the place. Could not fault it and lovely staff....... 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

We are so used to amazingly welcoming canal side pubs that we never thought to check the reviews for this one! We had travelled in our canal boat for several hours in the rain and fancied an impromptu pub lunch. We have 2 well behaved dogs with us, on Sunday we ate in the Samuel Barlow up the canal near Alvecote and it was full of dog owning customers. We walked up to the solid pub door at 12.30 to see a large sign stating no dogs other than assistance dogs. So we left. The end. Reading previous reviews he probably did us a favour...

Tried to eat here but after we sat down we were told we couldn't stay as we had a pram. We asked if we could put it in a corner or something (we were not trying to be difficult or leave it blocking everyone) but were told no, and had to leave. There are no signs or anything saying no children or we would have avoided it.Luckily other patrons, who were also very surprised at how we were being treated, advised us of somewhere else that we could go.

This pub is NOT for the weary hungry family! Arrived by Narrowboat lovely sunny day but sadly no lunch was eaten. Poor customer service man in particular has a chip on his shoulder put us in a bad mood to begin with. Pub not dog friendly but we could sit in the unkempt beer garden full off dirty glasses. After clearing a table we found out that they don’t serve food outside?! What’s the point in having the garden then??If you want friendly country pub suitable for a family then “steer” well clear (boat pun intended!) The Rose and Castle is not for you. If you are after over priced gastro food in a stuffy unwelcome environment then by all means eat here.

We arrived by narrowboat on the Ashby Canal and had previously booked our table some weeks in advance as I know how busy pubs near canals can be. The pub is about 300m from the canal by bridge 14 if your reading a canal map. We were shown straight to our table and the staff very extremely polite, professional and pleasant. Our food was served quickly (even though the pub was full of diners). It was hot, fresh and delicious. The ales were nicely kept too!! Thank you to everyone at the Rose & Castle for a lovely meal. We use to go to this pub for food regularly a few years back. We thought we would give it a go again and it was busy. The food came shortly after ordering and was fine. The female member of staff was polite but the younger male could do with brushing up on his customer service skills. It costs nothing to be pleasant and have manners and goes along way to give the paying customer an enjoyable time, it also helps for repeat trade. I think the food was very reasonable and was cooked well, the rump steak was alittle tough but apart from that the chef did a good job. Would recommend and hope the young man reads this and thinks more about the customer than being on the phone...yes the side of the bar out of view has a mirror where there is no hiding.

The warm welcome we received was second to non, you can tell that this pub is in such professional hands the owners and staff seem to have such a rapport. We were attended to but it was not over bearing, just right. The landlady, I think was wonderful her banter and kindness sold us more alcohol! Our glasses were never empty for long, she was very attentive. It’s like she knew “these guys are in for a god drink” I hate it when there is table service and you have to ask for more drinks. Visited on a Saturday evening whilst staying at a nearby hotel. There were already several people dining and we were advised that the restaurant was already fully booked but that they could fit us in for 6pm if that was convenient for us. Going with that table time we ordered a round of drinks and went outside to peruse the menu. The menu offers an excellent choice. There are a couple of tables at the front side of the building but was right on the side of a busy main road and it soon became apparent that this was “smokers corner “ . We were about to retreat back inside when we observed a couple disappear with their drinks round the back of the pub into the car park. On enquiry we were advised that there was a ‘beer garden’ at the bottom of the car and adjacent to a canal.

We visited here for lunch a few weeks ago, choosing it for its comprehensive allergen menu. We had a delicious 3 course meal, everything was fresh and tasty. However a day later it was apparent my daughter had been served something with soya as she had an allergic reaction. I phoned and spoke to Steve the manager who traced that she had been served soya ice cream incorrectly with a gluten free dessert. He was very apologetic and I was very impressed that they had traced the source and admitted their error. He invited us back for a complimentary meal as compensation. We visited again yesterday and again all enjoyed our food. What I wasn't impressed about was being chased into the car park by the bar man as apparently the offer of a free meal was only for one dish and I had to go back in and pay for the rest. Maybe I misinterpreted the original offer but that certainly put a bit of a dampener on our return visit

First time we have been to the Rose and Castle in a number of years. A Saturday afternoon starter and mains with soft drinks (driving unfortunately!) - The welcome was excellent and the food was really good ... we both had whitebait for the starter with one steak and one fish dish for the mains. Not the cheapest ... just over £43 but it was well worth it ....

This little pub has all the qualities to be a very good bistro experience, just one or two things let it down.It didn't start well that as we were seated the table next to us were complaining about their food, but hey ho!The menu was extensive and I do like to try something different sometimes so I opted for the chicken and ham skewers with some sort of hot sauce as a starter. Pretty average to be honest, chunks of ham that was not great quality thrown on a skewer with a sauce that was a bit too hot really, can't remember what my wife had but it was ok. For the main she had sea bass which she said was lovely and I must say it looked good to. My wife hates liver, so sometimes its a treat for me to have it now an again, so that's what I ordered, well, I have never been presented with a bowl of food so hot, the food had been nuked to death. By the time I had used all my puff up to actually put it in my mouth any flavours in the meal had been truly dissolved. We ate on a Sunday night after the kitchen had been serving Sunday dinners all day, but that really shouldn't be used as an excuse. There was a good range of beer and wine. The wine we chose was of decent quality.Overall an average experience for us, but the potential is definitely there!

I went on a friday with my girlfriend. The food was bland and horrible. Neither of us enjoyed it, i basically paid £15 for some well cooked under seasoned cod with crushed tomato on top. It just wasn't good. the staff were nice but i wouldn't ever go again or recommend this place. it used to be brilliant but it seems now to be empty and an awful standard.

Visited this restaurant yesterday evening and had a great meal. Service was excellent and we received our meals very quickly. I had the chicken with Stilton which was delicious. Drinks were served at our table which was great. Not busy as is usually very busy, suspect this is because it is post Christmas. Will definitely revisit. Good value meals and what a menu selection. So much to choose from.

Went for birthday Sunday lunch but very disappointed. Beef was so tough it couldn't be cut with knife -fatty and grisly and nearly all left on plate. Lamb was also tough -not as bad as beef but still very poor. Turkey was better but, again, nowhere near as tender as should be. Veg etc all okay but overall meal a bitter disappointment, especially considering the price and having to pay extra for veg such as cauliflower cheese. Definitely not going again.

Been before about 18 months ago and the menu was the same extensive one but never changes. Had prawn cocktail n the batch was solid and you couldn't even cut it. Partner had pigs pudding and it was dry. Service was good and the place was brilliant. Prawn n sea bass was really good I would recommend this.

We visited on a very busy saturday night without booking but were able to make a booking due to the efficient and pleasant staff. It has a nice atmosphere and very quick service both at the bar and at the table despite being so busy. The menu is varied with plenty of choice and the prices are reasonable. The portions are large so visit with an appetite !

Called in here on a Saturday afternoon. Myself and husband had a meal and it was lovely, really good tasty food, large portions. Excellent choice of food, catering for all. The pub/restaurant is very nice too, old style pub with beams etc but feels fresh and modern. Enjoyed the music playing too. Lovely friendly staff.

We have been here a couple of times and were always impressed so booked again for a family meal on Sunday tea time. 23/10/2016 Food is absolutely amazing, couldn't fault it. We had 2 children's chicken strip meals which went down well and then 3 adult meals, lasagne, chicken and steak in a pepper sauce and a chicken burger meal, all were fantastic, we also had starters too which were lovely. Such a delightful little place with attentive staff. Thank you and well done to the chef for the amazing food. Would defiantly go back again soon.

This is a great little pub, very close to the M6 and M69 junction (so good for meeting people from a distance). The menu is creative and extensive. The ale is excellent and the wine good (according to my wife). It is a little crowded and currently being decorated. However, the three-meat Sunday lunch was more than even my ample appetite could cope with. We left full of food and good cheer - and thought that it was excellent value too.

Allergy friendly menu with all the dishes ingredients fully listed. Big choice of food. Staff very friendly. The food is freshly cooked and very tasty. There were 6 in our party and we were all served together. The portions are very big. We have all very good appetites and couldn't manage it all. Highly recommend.

We'd had a busy day on the Oxford canal so we moored just by the Rose and Castle and had a good evening. We weren't sure how they managed to present such an extensive menu which was as wide in choice as we'd seen in a local pub. We all had a good meal with good beers and friendly service.

An amazing menu to choose from, from burgers to chicken with smoked salmon, prawns and Brie! Food was good quality and plenty of it, we had main course and dessert and we were full! The atmosphere is really friendly and the staff were all great, with good humour. Desserts were lovely, quite rich and just a bit too much cream!

Stayed at local Hotel in Ansty but did'nt want to eat there all the time. This was the closest pub and was a perfect local pub serving good food and ale. Very comparable to my local pub in Wrightington -The white Lion. Meal and drinks cost about £50 for 4 - two adults and two children, As before, they just about sq ooze us in, which I find is a good indication.

Take Notice.. Burgers were possibly smaller than McDonald's, thin and tasted plain. Handful of chips. Coffee, tried all types and all tasted horrid. Never again. Will return for beer but not food..
