The Rose in Elmbridge

Been going to The Rose for years and it’s absolutely excellent. Lovely people, great food and also brilliant via delivery. Would recommend the Murgh Makhani and the Sag Aloo, my go-to order and very tasty. We feel very lucky to have such a fantastic curry house in Thames Ditton and would thoroughly recommend.

After a long day visiting Hampton Court if you are looking for a quiet spot in the quaint village atmosphere of Thames Ditton 15 minutes walk from Hampton court this is the spot. Incredibly tasty, spiced just right. We thoroughly enjoyed the Sag Paneer, Tandoori mixed grill with lamb naan. King Henry would approve !

We've been going to The Rose on and off for the last 20 years or so and our latest visit was the most disappointing in all of that time. It wasn't terrible as such in that some of the food was ok but some was not, the chana and achar chicken too salty and too sweet, and my wife's main dish of vegetable jalfrezi consisted pretty much only of cabbage and onions. It was the same with the service in that the staff didn't seem to have any interest at all, apart from one young lady who was very friendly. It's been OK in the past so hopefully we just caught them on a bad night.

First time we have eaten in rather than ordered takeaway. Food seemed to taste even better! BYO which is great. We'll be trying to eat in more often. Highly recommended.

Fancied a curry, not been here for a while as previous experiences were not great but in the spirit of visiting a local restaurant we tried again. So underwhelming, staff very expressionless and uninviting. Starter arrived along with Poppadoms but to be fair this was quite tasty. Main course was marked as fairly hot but the chicken was not great and the dish overall just tasted ‘smoky’ rice looked like it was from the bottom of the pan. This will be our last visit and will stick to The Ferry whose curries and delicious and freshly cooked.

This is mediocre food at best. Absolutely awful, waste of money. We had three dishes and some poppadoms. The two vegetable dishes were made with blackened potatoes, which look like they were salvaged from some other dish. The Gobi Aloo was smelling rancid and the potatoes also were blackened. Achari chicken consisted of Mango chutney mixed with chicken, not Achar which is pickle. The poppadoms were broken in shards, some of which were ok, seemingly fresh and some incredibly stale. It was obvious that they had just provided us with left over pieces. We politely called to explain our grievances, but received appalling service; they simply were not interested in anything we had to say.

Lovely little curry house really great food but if you want achol you have to bring your own which is not a problem so overall if you like a curry then give the Rose a try well worth a visit.

Absolutely cracking curry! Now BYO for beer, which is a bonus as there is shop next door that sells it. Service great, food excellent.

The 2nd worst vegetable curry I've ever eaten. It was gritty and only consisted of lots of sliced onion a couple of pieces of carrot and half a dozen mange tout. On the plus side the onion bajee were tasty and the rice was ok. The waiting staff were pleasant. We hadn't realised when booking they didn't sell alcohol - that was our fault though we could of brought our own. Sadly I wouldn't recommend.

Delivery time 75 mins, arrived around 30 mins after that, stone cold.

Recently went here for my birthday meal and I wish we never did. The staff are so beyond rude. We arrived at 7PM (it was a booked table) and were told we needed to be done by 8.30 as they had another table at this time. We were given probably 5 minutes to look at our menu before being told ' you have to order now or you wont have time to eat'. The waiter was constantly over our shoulders to see if we had finished. We will never be going here again, we have spoke to many other people who have been here and said the exact same thing! Don't waste your money.

The meal was nice but we were overcharged £60 ! A very dodgy business! Also we had to ask three times for water for the table

Well that was a disappointment. Cold and watery. So watery most of the sauces was in the bottom of the bag The chicken quality was good though

Ordered a takeaway from here and the food had spilled out of the packaging so sauce was all over the bag. What normally is a cracking meal, the lamb was tough and chewy. And the whole meal was average - usually this is my go too so will give another chance

Takeaway- Sadly tonight every dish was tepid and greasy. Even the poppadoms. Usually a great experience with the chefs specials showing a great use of original spice flavours. But tonight yuk ! My wife found hair in her dinner and ever dish was unpleasant.

The service here is amazing! So attentive to customers. I’ve had a range of food here, fish, lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes are all great here. I recommend getting a grilled meat platter to start!

Outstanding curry. Ordered a takeaway a few nights ago, and was seriously impressed by the quality. The meat was tender, and the flavours excellent. Going to work my way through the menu over the next few weeks!

We live locally and have ordered takeaway from The Rose several times. Every time it is lovely and hot, the staff are very welcoming and pleasant and they are really efficient. The quality of the meat is brilliant and the flavours are really authentic. Today in particular was really tasty.

Not very nice lacking any flavour or even just a pinch of salt, and no spice to any of the dishes at all. Egg in the biryani was over cooked and black. Only 3 pieces of chicken in the Biryani 2 of which were quite pink. Barely any veg in the accompaning veg curry. Bindi had a really odd taste and was inedible. So disappointed as ordered based of everyone else's good reviews

We have used The Rose for many years after it was recommended to us. The food is consistently very good, the staff are always very friendly and service excellent. Like many local restaurants, they have gone the extra mile during 2020 and we will continue to support them.

The best curry in Surrey! Nothing I've had comes close to a lamb pasana nawabi

We phoned our order through and it was delivered soon after. One of the starters did have the 'tomato from a tin' taste that I've seen mentioned in other reviews. I'd say maybe cream of tomato soup?!! But the other 3 dishes were very good. The tikka paneer had been cooked in a wood fired oven from the flavour and the veg dansak was a good curry heat. Will definitely order again.

Got a delivery from here in part because of all the good reviews, but my meal was bad so I feel obliged to balance it out a bit. The bhuna I had literally had no hotness to it, a first for me. It was like a tomato pasta sauce out of a jar. None of the expected flavours of spices or richness of taste. The popadoms turned out to be just 2 and they were strange folded stale things. Even the raw onion in the dips had no taste of onion - how is that even possible?

Normally when I come to The Rose, it’s late at night, with friends, and we’ve all have a few beers ....... and everything seems great. This time was the same in most respects except........ I was stone cold sober ! And I wasn’t disappointed. The staff are great - they put up with so much and never stop smiling and being professional. Service is prompt and off-menu requests are sorted out with no problem. My only criticism is that a lot of the dishes appeared very similar - almost like they used the same base sauce for everything - which considering how quickly it was cooked and served, wouldn’t surprise me. But for the majority of diners there, that’s exactly what they want.

The food and ambience of this small restaurant was superb, The prices were slightly more than I’d experienced elsewhere but I found the service and food quality reflected this.

Sorry, we've now had three successive less than nice take away's from what had been our favourite restaurant for some time. Last Sunday the Tarka Dahl was particularly disgusting, inedible even, King Prawn Bhuna a favourite from the Rose, over priced and revolting.

Been to The Rose a few times over the Christmas period, just excellent. Consistently good, either eating in or taking out. Good size portions and value for money. You can’t go wrong booking a table at The Rose, Thames Ditton.

Me,husband and 9 year old daughter visited here on a Sunday evening not long after it had opened,there were a few people in there already so a sign!more people came in after and was busy,the service was brilliant and waiters made us feel very welcome.chicken tikka,lamb bhuna and a dish specially made as recommended by the waiter were all very good and we will definitely be back and making this our new Indian restaurant to visit and order takeaway from 😀

Super food, nice staff, fair prices and a very nice ambience

I’m a huge curry lover and have moved recently out of the TD area and have to say I miss this place more than anything hence the promoted review. I actually drive just under 10 miles to pick up my take away now. Never found something that has competed, so I’ve given up and take the travelling on the chin.

We were recommended to try this curry restaurant a few years ago by my son! He goes there with his friends. We did try it one evening and fell in love with their food. So much that we asked them to cater for my wife’s 50th birthday. They catered for over 130 people and literally everyone commented on how wonderful the food was - so much so that everyone ended up having seconds and we had to call them to see if they could deliver another 40 portions. They did within 30 mins! Good quick service and lovely food - probably one of the best curries we’ve had. The staff and manager are very attentive and deliver a great service. Try them - you’ll enjoy it!

Visited with friends to celebrate a birthday (8 people). Although we had booked a table it was clear that our table was given to someone else who came with a bigger group. It did not matter in the end as two tables were pushed together to accommodate us but it did mean nothing was ready. The staff were friendly and service was OK given the restaurant was very busy. I thought the food was nice and enjoyed it very much. I’m sure we’ll visit again.

Varied food and friendly staff.

We are very lucky to live next to the best curry house! The food is amazing and staff very friendly and accommodating.

My first visit and sadly probably my last despite my nephew rating this as his favourite Indian restaurant. Four of us went here on a Saturday evening and I think that the problem might have been that they were so busy with a never ending line of customers coming in to collect takeaways that they rather forgot that others were eating in the restaurant. The waiter who took our order looked disapprovingly when we said that we would skip the starters and go straight in to main courses. Some 50 minutes later we enquired when our meal might be served and shortly afterwards it arrived but it didn't look particularly appetising and we sent back 2 of the chicken dishes as they were cold. My chicken tikka biriani was pretty bland as was the vegetable curry that it came with. In fairness one of us found his lamb dish to be excellent but the other 3 of us left very disappointed.

We were a group of 4 who arrived about 8.30 pm. The food and the service were terrible. The waiter brought out stone cold plates for us to eat our main course from. We had to ask for warm ones !! I am a seafood eater. I had "garlic" mussels without garlic ! Overcooked, hard and dry. I followed with a prawn dish. Similarly the prawns were hard, dry, and overcooked. All food appears to come in a reddish sauce irrespective of the dish.

Great place to go and have a nice curry friendly staff and helpful service nice place to eat as a couple or with family.

We have been dining at the Rose for about 5 to 10 years now and it never disappoints. The food is always brilliant and the service excellent. With two daughters now being vegetarian/vegan, we had no problem finding appropriate items in the menu.

It took me almost 10 years to give this restaurant another chance after our last unhappy visit. Three of us visited this place with positive and cheerful mood as we were celebrating an occasion, however that mood soon changed when the head waiter told me what I should have rather than what I desired. Still I made it quiet clear that I wanted chicken on the bone in my particular curry which was on the menu. The staff stayed to their word and brought me what I DID NOT want.

It is our go to restaurant for Indian food. Always good service and tasty food. Their take away service is prompt and the food is hot when it arrives. The prices are reasonable.

I've had many curries over the years, but I can safely say The Rose dishes out the best of them. I've tried a number from there, perhaps 5 or 6, and they're all delicious. Anything else is a disappointment, so I only get curry from here now...

Me and my family love the Rose but today was the second time we’ve been turned away long before lunch closing time! Very disappointing finding the staff stuffing themselves and clearly not bothered. Please stick to your opening times or you’ll lose customers this way! Not impressed.

Great food and service a this local gem

Ordered online - Terrible delivery service . Despite of clear instructions Driver did mistake . He was rude and called restaurant. I got replied that driver is disabled so he mistaken . And no apology whatsoever. So how they can recruit such disabled staff . DWP and HMRC should look into this offence.

I love this place. When I am back in the UK, I stay with friends and this is a must at least once while I am back. The food is amazing....if you like your curries you are in heaven. The menu is extensive and caters for all...Personally I enjoy the chicken karaih, the peshwari nan and the Tarka Daal, but there are many others to sample.

One of the best Indian Restaurants in Surrey in my opinion. Warm and friendly staff, reasonable prices and wonderful menu of 'classic Anglo-Indian' as well as a wife variety of dishes from all over India.

We have eaten here a number of times now. The food is always so delicious and of great quality, probably the best Bangladeshi food in the area. The staff are always so friendly and hospitable. We also order takeaway from here a lot (monthly at least) and the delivery is always so speedy. Such a highly valued local restaurant, we've never had any negative experiences ordering here.

Our family of four ate here last week. The food is always fresh and delicious. The service is great and the restaurant has a happy atmosphere. We really love it here.

Food was great! Poppadoms and sauces good. We had onion bajis, chicken tikka for starter. Both good with a nice small salad. Chicken tikka dansak, chicken Bandai, lemon rice and sag paneer. There was great choice.

Really nice local Indian restaurant

The food is good, but don’t order online. For the second time my order was wrong. The first time this happened, I called to explain, but said ‘not to worry’ as I appreciate these things can happen from time to time. This time, a main dish was missing and a couple of side orders were wrong. I was offered a ‘free main’ next time ie the one I had already paid for! They offered for the manager to call me the next day - he didn’t call. So, not so much a food critique (the food is pretty good), but more a case of a complete lack of customer care. It isn’t cheap so I expect more, but will go elsewhere in the future. Strongly recommend others do the same for home delivery.

Always a good meal here. A good range of freshly cooked curries with fresh spices, far better than your average curry house. Staff are friendly and helpful and the decor is smart and intimate. Genuinely, I've yet to find a better Indian restaurant in Surrey.

Best place for curry I have ever been to

This was my first visit to this restaurant after a recommendation from a friend. As soon as you walk in there us a very friendly atmosphere the waiters have a great sense of humour. The food was excellent all round. Great to have a different menu from the usual curry houses. Will I return 100% yes. Reservations are a must.

The Rose is, in many ways, a traditional curry house, offering all you'd expect from an established eatery as well as a few more up-to-date twists and menu variations.

This is our Indian of choice in the district both for eat in and take out. Can't think of a better one outside of Huddersfield or Bradford.

This was ojr regular as a family, we have since moved to another which offers better value for money and a higher standard of food. However i was always a fan and decided to go back on a solo trip for lunch one day hoping they would have got back to the quality they began with. This was not the case, the food was average for the standard i am used to and the value for money is poor. Unfortunately they have lost a previous regular here as there are better indian restaurants in the area.

2nd visit this month and both equally high quality. They had no problem with the off-menu item I requested and were very informative discussing the food. The service was prompt and very friendly. Only negative was charging £2.50 for the condiments with poppadoms, even though we didn't touch half of them. And I'd advise reserve by phone as the online reservation isn't reliable. Based on the food and service I would definitely recommend.

On a quiet Sunday night we were well treated and greeted.The menu pointed to it being a middle of the road Bangladeshi/Indian style restaurantAnd so it was. The food, starters and mains were edible but certainly not warranting some of the 5* reviews...service was friendly and food was value for money.

We've been to hundreds of Indian restaurants around the world. This one offers nothing interesting or exciting. Really bland.

I have eaten here many times over the last however many years and have never been disappointed. Attractive decor and always a big welcome.

Real textbook curry house. Fantastic fresh food, attentive service and a lovely atmosphere. A real cut above the average. Book at the weekend, it fills up fast.

Appalling experience. First visit. Booked online and recieved a phone call the next day asking could I come earlier as they wanted our table for an additional booking later. I should have taken the hint but foolishly took my wife for a meal. We arrived and they had to ask a take-away customer to leave our seat. Even though I had booked in advance we were sat buy the door. Take-aways are priority here we had 12 men stood in a queue around our table, one had a squawking child lying on the floor.We asked respectfully to be moved as it resembled Piccadilly Circus but a tall and stressed waiter with glasses refused. They have two phones behind the main resteraunt desk which are constantly ringing. The whole experience was rushed and stressfull. Customer care is nonexistent. The food took 45 minutes to arrive but was actually stunning. We stayed 59 minutes. The other waiters were pleasant and highly efficient. The waiter in the glasses really should stay in the kitchen as most of the negative panic comes from this man. Maximum bookings are paramount to this restaurant not the customer. Never again.

This has same name as place in Surbiton but this Rose is far the best Curry I've had and I've been to places like Kampala, Uganda and where I probably have had the very best Curry in my whole 70 ears of life, but this particular Rose has to be ranked way up there for flavour ... it is quite small so make sure you book your table.

Its not cheap but the food is always great here. People in Thames Ditton think its the best curry house as most of them haven't been out much but it is very good.

Went here on a Thursday night expecting it to be quiet however there was hardly a table free. Was seated a attended to promptly, ordered after a short wait. Food was of an excellent quality however price was towards the top end for the cuisine. Good service, good food but dont expect a cheap curry.

Popped in here feeling full (having already eaten a full roast lunch earlier in the day) with a load of old school buddies (for one of whom this is their local) having an impromptu reunion. I wasn't contemplating eating a lot but quickly overcame that weakness and managed to eat a little of everything that we collectively ordered (about 12 dishes) and it was all delicious. Naans, achari chicken, boti kebab, brindal, bhindi and cauliflower bhajis, scallops etc etc etc - all got sampled. I eventually rolled out feeling very happy! Will eat here again and will ensure next time that I have the capacity to do it justice!

We went to go the Rose for a Christmas Eve treat having eaten in there before and found it to be excellent however went in there last night having booked at the beginning of December and having been told we would have vacate our table by 8-00 which was fine and understood (we had young ones with us) we were told in a very surly manner and condescending manner that our booking was not there (perhaps we had booked the red rose in surbiton the waiter said)so we left all feeling very unhappy and upset at the way we were treated so certainly the food is excellent but if you book a table make sure it's booked
