Used to be quite good, but gone down the pan. Soup, now I can make better. Appearance and texture of cheap packet stuff. Chips, now how do you manage to serve hot chips and cold chips in the same serving? Poached salmon fillet; thin piece of tail end, over cooked and dry. Got to get your own cutlery, sort of like self service. Staff doing their best, but run off their feet. Really disappointing and dare I say it, overpriced 🫤

Our Friendship Group of 20 had lunch at The Rosary on Monday. Jonathan emailed me the menu so that I was able to do a full pre order. The tables were already laid out for our group when we arrived and the staff welcomed us and were very friendly and helpful, although already busy with other customers. The menu is very good with plenty of choice. Being such a big group it's not possible to get an opinion on the food from everyone but those I did get were almost 100% good. Hannah, Rachel and Tracy looked after us really well which wasn't easy for them considering our numbers. Even the bill paying at the end went smoothly.

We go nearly every Sunday for breakfast plus extra coffees. But today we were really cold and asked staff if the roof windows could be closed. They were extremely helpful but said it wasn’t up to them to do it! We didn’t have our second coffees as we really were very cold due to the continuous chilly wind!! Talking to other customers at the till, they agreed that they couldn’t wait to get out!

As usual, we have visited three times before reviewing. This was the first time trying their lunch menu, and it was very disappointing. We ordered a club sandwich and Fishfinger butty. Oh dear... The salad was wilted and tired and still somewhat damp which made the club sandwich soggy, plus the bacon was underdone. The fish butty consists of small goujons and again a tired salad serving. I was amused by the tiniest sliver of a dwarf lemon, that I assume was to flavour the fish, which in itself was poor quality as were the chips. It is the low quality ingredients that lets the two meals down. The cost of the meals brings them just below the prices charged for similar by many gastro pubs, frankly I would rather pay the one or two pound extra and have a satisfactory experience. If you want just a drink and cake, I am sure you will be satisfied - just avoid the higher price offerings. Inconsistency with the staff, they are either very pleasant and attentive, or give the impression they would rather be somewhere else.

Called yesterday for coffee and cake, friendly staff showed us in and said we could sit where we liked in the front section. Opted for a cream tea and a savoury tea (cheese scone). Unfortunately there was no more cheese scones so I too had the sweet. My fruit scone was delicious and fresh, my husband had a lovely cherry and almond scone both with jam and cream. Two cups of filter coffee with a jug of hot milk - all very good value for money. Definitely recommend and will return

Well had coffee in the morning with a scone and my aunt had a well they said a short bread biscuit but very strange texture. We booked a table for lunch but when we came back for lunch the table i asked for they had put someone else there. My aunt asked for quiche but was told it dosnt include salad very so she ordered a salad so that may it a bit more expensive. I ordered fish and chips that I have had previously when the food came this quiche was round and looked like a pie the salad was all leaves yet it should off been tomato and onion my aunt said it was the worst tasting meal she had ever had there. My fish and chips wasn’t as good the fish was plonked on top of the chips sbd and i was very disappointed. My aunt asked for a bottle of still water but they gave her sparkling water. Very disappointed

I wish to commend your staff at the restaurant whose quick thinking enabled us to purchase strawberry ice cream for our autistic son whose condition made it very difficult to remain in the seated area. One of the most disappointing experiences We have had. The service was slow to begin with, but then the member of staff just plonked our order down on the table, walked away and left us wondering why there was no cutlery…… After helping our selves we found the food tasteless. One female employee came across as apathetic that left us feeling flat. Needless to say we won’t be returning.

Thisn is the second year I have taken along over 30 people for morning coffee and cake/scone for a Christmas treat. I returned because the staff in The Rosary are so friendly and helpful, led by Jonathan, their cafe manager, who is always very accomodating. I have read recent reviews and am shocked to hear such negative comments. We has a fantastic time with great efficient service for 34 people-not an esay task. The scones and cakes were delicious and the drinks hot. I can only recommend this cafe.

I have rarely felt the need to post a review but in this instance I had no option. Went to visit Santa yesterday with the family and the cafe squeezed 11 of us in over lunchtime. The front of house staff were chatty and pleasant however the food was terrible. My auntie ordered a quiche and had to send it back because it was rubbery and felt like it had been warmed in a microwave. The menu description was nothing like what we received. I ordered a baguette and received a bake at home bread sticks which was soft. My daughter ordered the pasta in tomato sauce which was supposed to come with parmesan but when arrived was mainly pasta with the tiniest bit of sauce which she attempted to eat but was dry. Last night my daughter was sick in the night and my mum has experienced diarrhoea. Memories of what should have been a lovely day ruined by bad overpriced food. The Santa was probably the nicest Santa we've ever been to so it's such a shame we had to experience that. I would advise people to not even chance it given the after effects.

No place at the Inn ( Rosary Restaurant ) Called in today on my Annual visit to Fryers and Rosary Restaurant , only to be basically turned away from waiting to be seated at the Rosary . Lady came up to me ( 12.50 pm ) all smiles to say that they were all booked up until 1.30 pm and after that they couldn't guarantee a seat . The place was only 60 % full ? She never even asked if I had booked ? Before leaving the Garden Centre at 1.20 pm , I observed that the empty tables hadn't actually been taken ?

Having never tried the restaurant before I thought I'd have some brunch before I shopped in the garden centre. The staff were pleasant and I was seated quickly. I ordered the eggs benedict and cup of tea. When I started to eat I noticed a strange taste to the ham and on closer inspection it definitely looked a strange grey colour and not appealing attal. I asked for it to be changed and the waitress apologised and my meal was brought back promptly. This time the ham was fine and the eggs perfect but the muffin was rock hard to the point where I couldn't cut through it so just ate the ham and eggs. I spoke with the manager who apologised and said he'd inform the kitchen. I was not offered any kind of reduction or the meal to be taken off my bill even though it was inedible which I find unprofessional as being in hospitality myself I would have charged for inedible food. It was a shame as staff were nice but think the kitchen/chef needs to change as I have read other similar complaints about the food.

We waited for 20 minutes to be allowed into the restaurant. Obviously they were working below normal capacity both in the number of customers allowed and the number of staff working..... and it didn't work.Having been allowed in and allocated a table we waited another 15 minutes for a menu. Our order was taken soon after that and my wife's warm scone and coffee arrived quickly. (1 star for that..the scone was lovely). My coffee was finished and my wife had finished her lunch and my sandwich hadn't arrived! Eventually it arrived by accident because I overheard another table refusing it! It had been sitting under lights for ages waiting for someone to serve it.I'd ordered Coronation chicken on bloomer. I got Coronation Chicken (Nice..that's the second & final star) in thin, cheap, white bread, curled up at the edges. I think we were apologised to about 4 times during this experience.I should have refused the sandwich, or at least refused to pay for it but I was completely fed up & just wanted to get out of there. The management must take responsibility for understaffing. We won't be going again and I'll put as many people off as I can. Good social distancing and prompt cleaning, it is easy to give your contact details, so one feels relatively safe. However while there are plenty of staff, everything takes ages. There were far fewer customers than usual and there was table service, but you can see your order on a tray at the counter and staff ignoring it! Customers don't know if they are supposed to step up and collect it themselves. Then, when it comes, you find you've got tea instead of coffee.By this time I had been there nearly half an hour - I had another hour's driving before I got home and just wanted a brief refuelling and toilet stop. I spent 10 minutes eating, and had a few sips of a flavour of tea that I hate, rather than try and attract attention and a further long wait for the coffee. When you want to pay, you end up being directed to the far end of the cafe, no notices sending you there, it's not obvious, so I had to be given three instructions to find the correct side of the pay desk.I also wanted to make a quick purchase at the garden centre, but despite three tills being in use, the service there was far too slow and the queue far too long.A frustrating visit and not one I'll repeat.

First visit to Fryers today - amazing plants, roses and merchandise. Then you get to the restaurant - ugh. Long wait to be seated and even longer to take my order. (Actually, I pointed to what I wanted on the menu. when I was seated but the guy wouldn't take the order and said he would be back - he wasn't. ) A couple nearby asked me how long ordering was usually but as I was a first-timer I couldn't tell them. I watched staff disappear in the kitchen. The restaurant was only a third full. Tables weren't cleared. I saw staff chatting at the till near the entrance, while customers waited to pay at the other till. I know there's Covid about but does this excuse extremely slow, inefficient service? No-one seemed in charge. In the end I got up, cancelled my order and left. By the way - I am disabled (walking frame) and alone. I had travelled 25 miles to collect a particular type of rose.Looking at the number of similar poor reports on Trip Advisor, which I did later, I wonder why Fryers management allow this situation to continue. My sister and I are big garden spenders and visit garden centres, always having a meal where there is a cafe. I won't be back and I won't be taking my sister either.

Extremely disappointed with our luncheon today , family of 6. The service was very very slow, with young inexperienced staff with no training. Food below parr with long waits. So many other restaurants around we won’t return. Dirty plates on most tables ☹️

Called today 28/07/2020.The restaurant was by no means full and we waited around 5 mins to be seated however given the current situation this was understandable. We ordered 2 lattes, toast and teacakes. Coffees arrived around 10 mins after order was placed so no problem there. Two more customers arrived after us and sat at the table in the same row next to ours. After some time waiting and after drinking half our lattes i noticed these customers being served what looked like bacon and egg balms. We continued to wait AND in the meantime had finished our lattes. By now we had waited far too long for our order which should have taken minutes to prepare compared to the 2 customers who had bacon and eggs.We decided to leave at this point. Clearly our order had been forgotten by the kitchen staff. This is quite poor given that there was very limited customers in the restaurant. We have visited the Rosary on many occasions sometimes when it has been jam-packed and never had this problem before. We definitely know that the young girl that took our order had passed it on as we overheard verification of it by someone who came out of the kitchen to talk to her so clearly this was the fault of the chef(s). We will visit the garden centre again but it,s highly unlikely we will go to the restaurant.

Shopping for plants decided to stop for coffe we were tempted by the most delicious scones fresh from the oven, As we split them the butter melted into them. They were very filling and excellent value for money. We decided we would go for a meal the steak pie looked ery tempting

We have been coming to Fryers for many year, and also using the Rosary restaurant on many occasions, have even been for a company Christmas lunch, which was excellent. Our visit yesterday (we haven’t been for 18 months) was very disappointing, the look of the restaurant is very tired and jaded, there used to be cane furniture with comfy cushions just to the left on entry, when we asked, we where told they have been moved Down the bottom of the restaurant , but the cushions are missing ?? We where seated and ordered fine, i had a ham omelette which was tasteless, and the ham was really tough, ok never said anything at that point, partner had pie of the day, which he said was ok. Noted also people waiting a long time to be greeted at reception and also people waiting to pay as we did... and at that point I mentioned to the staff that my meal wasn’t up to scratch, and I was told I should have mentioned it earlier, there was no mention of an apology or reduction or anything, all in all not an enjoyable experience. Will not be hurrying back.

Four of us dined today Thursday 6 feb. First niggle we stood waiting for someone to notice we were waiting to be allocated a table whilst 5 staff stood chatting. Then shown to our table and ordered food. I had to ask for vinegar and salad cream for my salad. No salad cream but mayo was brought and I got my own vinegar from next table. Surely when the order is taken why not ask what condiments are required before the hot meal is served.?? One asked for no cucumber with salad but still got cucumber, another of us a requested lightly battered fish again ignored.Same with desserts b&b pudding was served then to be told the custard will follow..Why?... serve all together. We were all saying we won’t bother returning as on the whole it just wasn’t worth £50 plus and that was without beverages!

My review is about the Rosary Restaurant item named Fish Chowder (Clam chowder is a more common version). Having sampled similar dishes at many other places I have never been so disappointed. I was keen to try it- wish I hadn’t bothered. Soup plate sized portion of veg with a few shrimps and a small piece of white fish in a salty sauce that was such a poor effort. Please stick to things like ‘chips with everything’ if you cannot produce anything better than this. Obviously you have a long way to go and a lot of effort to put in if you want to raise your mediocre ratings. You call this a Restaurant but the menu is no better than an average cafe.

They do very good food but not for vegetarians and vegans. Very sadly lacking in options. They used to do Eggs Florentine but now comes with smoked salmon and if you don't want the salmon, you pay the same!I opted for the full breakfast as the vegetarian option is no longer on the menu. I exchanged the bacon and sausage for an extra egg and tomato. Well cooked.Surely they can do better.

Visited with family and we all enjoyed a delicious lunch. Staff all very pleasant and helpful and service was excellent. The atmosphere was good with a gentle hum of chatter from nearby tables but was beautifully enhanced by a Robin (yes, a real one!) singing his heart out on the rafters. A real treat as we all agreed it made us feel as though we were eating outside on a lovely summers day!

For a variety of reasons , nothing to do with the restaurant , it was our first lunch here for a while but we will be back The staff were , helpful friendly and welcoming and the overall level of service was excellent. We all had Welsh Rarebit which was excellently priced ,prepared and served. The rest of the menu looked good and the restaurant is clean , light and airy. We also had the added advantage of a robin cheerfully singing and flying around and with the miserable weather outside it was lovely to see and hear and added to the enjoyment.

I took my parents out to Fryers garden centre today. I’d not been before but I’d heard really good things about the restaurant there and all the positive comments are well deserved.

Visited Friars today and decided to stay for something to eat but whilst looking at the menu and having a coffee we noticed that there were at least 3 robins flying around the restaurant and occasionally coming down for crumbs on the floor but thank fully not on the tables!

Booked a groupon for afternoon tea for my daughter’s birthday. The deal was for 4 people. My 2 daughters obviously weren’t going have tea or coffee and when the waitress declined a hot chocolate (which we had no issues with), she offered them a glass of water instead. Seeing as we’d paid for 4 people I think a glass of squash for them wasn’t really too much to offer. There were no sausage rolls/cheese wellingtons as stated on menu, so we were given lots and lots of finger sandwiches. Unfortunately they were all tasteless. We’d had nothing since breakfast and still they tasted so bland. The scones were so soft they were falling to pieces as we spread jam on them. The cakes weren’t at all inspiring. The macaroon was the only thing that was average. The room itself was so hot and made the meal even more uncomfortable. A thoroughly disappointing experience. I’m glad we booked a groupon for it but still found it a waste of money. A shame really as I was planning to return for the Sunday roast deal. The location is breathtaking but completely ruined by the lack of quality of the food.

We booked for my birthday and thought we would have a nice tea and it was truly awful! Weak and cheap coffee, dry cakes and small sandwiches!!! So awful 😞 the bar manager was lovely and gave us a 100% discount… will not return 🤮🤢

Been visiting jodrell on and off as a cyclist for the last 5/6 years, from when the modern caterer was responsible for the cafe, sadly that came to and end a while ago and the university took back charge. The food seems to have been going downhill ever since. Todays (Sunday) breakfast offering consisted of sausage or bacon barms. Precooked and left to slowly cool in a pot, not kept warm or reheated, served on an unbuttered barmcake that was left to dry out in a paper bag. The whole thing soon disintegrated because it was dryer than Gandhi’s flip flop. And they have the cheek to charge £5 for it. On the (only) plus side the coffee is still decent. May be better in the week but today was embarrassing compared to how good it used to be.
