After enjoying a day walking in the area we visited the coffee shop for refreshments. This was our second visit over a period of time. The cafe is clean including the toilets. There is a large selection of delicious cakes available. The coffee is excellent, served hot, great taste. There is an outside seating area as well as indoor seating. Will be visiting again.

We regularly visit here. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Coffee, scones and cake are excellent. It's predominantly vegetarian, which is great, but there is often something meaty as well. I've enjoyed paninis and falafels, garlic mushrooms- lovely- and there are some really nice looking quiches. There's a good atmosphere, often busy but never rushed.

We discovered this place some years ago and having taken to visiting more regularly again it still manages to impress us with friendly service, a lovely environment…and of course the best coffee and selection of cakes and treats. The scones and fruit loaf are outstanding - if a tad on the large side!! We even decided to share a portion this week - rather than have to leave some. A really nice response from the staff when we chose to do this aswell. We just love this place - and having seen the savouries that turn up around us we have promised ourselves we need to try lunch there. Top notch.

Really nice quality food and location but the whole experience just felt a bit stressful. The cafe is always super busy and due to this the checkout experience always feels rushed and stressy. The staff have a bit of an attitude and it ruins the experience.

I caught my jeans on a faulty planter outside the cafe, the lady in the cafe was extremely rude. The lady in the shop was very nice. Finally had a reply to my email apologising but saying not sure how I had done it!!! Er there was a piece of metal poking out at hip height and I got a 3 inch rip in my jeans!!! I asked if i could invoice them for a new pair of jeans but was totally ignored, a simple sorry , no would have been suffice !!! How incredibly rude. I shall vote with my feet , no more cafe visits or shopping in the shop and definitely no more recommendations Be nice

After walking across the Humber Bridge, on a raint day, my wife & I were looking forward to a coffee. We came upon the Ropery which was the first time that we had used the cafe. What a pleasant surprise. No wonder they were busy. The staff were very pleasant & friendly & the service was excellent. We both had a coffee which was very good & were spoilt by the large selection of cakes. I had a piece of ginger & lime cake & my wife went for the fruit cake. Both delicious. The cafe was also very clean including the toilets which lets down so many similar establishments. We thought that the prices were very reasonable.

Went today at 4.45pm for a very quick cup of tea as I was aware that the coffee shop closed at 5.00pm. When I asked for a cup of tea, the woman at the counter looked horrified while the other woman actually turned her back to me. I was told that even though the shop closes at 5pm they actually stop serving at 4.45pm so they could not make me a cup of tea. I was not asking for a three-course meal, just a cup of tea which I would have finished by 5pm anyway, First rule of business: never turn a customer away. For the sake of a few minutes, they have lost not only my custom but that of any one else I might have recommended. Poor business practice and very unfriendly.

Or maybe the chef doesn't like making toasted sandwiches. The one star is for the complimentary coffee refil by way of apology for the 45 minute wait. The cafe is at one end of a very very very very very long building in fact just about long enough for the barge pole.

Love coming to this cafe with the family. In the last couple of weeks we’ve visited three times since Covid restrictions have been lifted. Been visiting the cafe for many years prior. Was disappointed with the portion size of my slice of Victoria Sponge yesterday though. Certainly wasn’t worth the money. I usually order Victoria Sponge as I can share it with my young grandson. Please keep your cake portions consistent. It’s something that doesn’t go unnoticed.

Nice little cafe. Friendly staff. Opted for Chilli Cheese Nachos, Fruit Scone with Jam and Butter and a Flat White. Nachos were fine, Flat White was very good. The scone was a bit flat in shape, therefore hard and crunchy, but ok. My only real issue was the way the jam is served. It comes in a small glass jar, the mini Bonne Maman type thing but with no label or lid. Maybe they reuse these but take the labels off. However it just feels like you are getting someone else’s leftovers! I expected to look in the jar and see small pieces of butter from a previous customer’ knife. Just not good. Suggest you change the way this is served. Either serve a sealed Bonne Maman mini jar or serve it open in something else, maybe the same white dish the sour cream comes in. Overall though, the experience was pretty good.

That said I've recently been served by the lady in charge who at best seems flustered, at worst irritated - so much so, when I now go I am prepared for this and try not to let it spoil my time there. Following a brisk walk along the bank of the Humber on a mild and sunny late December day, we took a slight diversion and visited the Ropery coffee shop.Following a week of gluttony we only wanted something light, so my husband opted for fruit tea bread with butter and ham and a cappuccino. I had gluten free toast, butter and jam with a decaf American. The surroundings were buzzing and the place was busy. We didn't wait long before our hot toast arrived with softened butter and with added jam it was sumptuously delicious. With our coffees arriving very soon after, that too was hot and lovely. It touched the spot and refreshed us as we returned to our car and headed back to the North Bank

Living locally and more or less on the door step of this smashing venue I can't believe it's taken us so long to return but something has changed! Went a few times when it was a coffee and cake venue and exelent it always was but, now the Ropery has a fantastic meal menu that leans in the main to being very animal friendly although carnivors can get their fix if required! It's all very well thought out and a total credit to all concerned! The place itself is lovely and in a rustic country style. Service is friendly and polite! The produce is sourced locally and the combinations of top ingredients are wonderful. I was happy to see a Ploughmans on offer! (A personal old school favourite!) You hardly ever see now-a-days! 2 where promptly ordered! WOW is all I could say upon their arrival. They say you eat with your eyes and by golly what a beautiful epic feast! Little contemporary twists where noticed within the classic framework and it was all very enjoyable! Coffee and cake followed and we left 2 very happy bunnies! This will now be our go to special place as we are totally smittern with the whole set up! Well done chef and staff alike! You have got everything Bob on! Thanks! My friend and I have been to the Ropery Coffee Shop a couple of times now, when we've been to the sewing bee at Jane White Couture (great fun by the way- if you like sewing ). The food has been good on both occasions. There's a good selection of sweet and savoury dishes, and the sandwiches are excellent value to order to take out. A number of the ladies at the sewing bee have ordered salads, and they appeared to be good and plentiful! The sandwich my friend ordered was made from decent wholemeal bread, cut thickly, but with a good amount of filling (tuna mayo and cucumber). The first time, we ate in the shop and I had an excellent chilli from the specials board. Our only disappointment was the scones, which looked very appetising but were a bit heavy on the bicarbonate for our liking. The service was good, even when the shop was heaving, and the prices are very reasonable. A good place to go if you are at The Ropery, or worth a visit anyway.

We visited the cafe mid-week following a visit to the small museum which is dedicated to the history of rope-making .We had a toddler in tow and had to shuffle a few chairs to get the high chair at the table (there are a few high chairs in the corner). My husband and I ordered the quiche of the day (which came with salad and roasted new potatoes and coleslaw). The menu stated that there were children’s portions but when my husband enquired was told that only sandwiches were available for children. We didn’t have to wait too long considering that is seemed quite busy. The meals arrived and the quiches looked and tasted gorgeous. The children’s tuna sandwich came with a generous dish of halved cherry tomatoes and chopped cucumber, also some crisps. The sliced bread however was like a door-stop with thick dry crusts so rather disappointing and not child friendly. We ended up scraping the tuna out for it to be eaten separately as she would not eat the thick bread (she is not usually a fussy eater). When I mentioned this to the waitress who cleared the plates, she said that as the bread is sliced as needed, next time I should ask for thinner sliced bread! With a tea and a coffee the bill was just over £20. I probably would visit again despite the bread.

However, we ordered a pot of tea for two and one ham, cheddar and red onion chutney wrap for my friend and a sandwich with white crusty bread and the same filling for me. Forget the "expensive" comment that I made earlier. The portion size more than compensates for the £5 price tag for each item of food. Plenty of filling. The tea was good too. The sandwiches were excellent, plenty of choice. The coffee is one of the best. All at reasonable prices

We had a nice lunch here. It was small and popular so lots of atmosphere. Unfortunately our table was close to the door on a cold winter day so could have been warmer. Food was delicious. We had a tasty toasted panini from the menu and coffee cake from the cabinet. The tea was hot and came quickly along with the cake. The paninis took quite a long time though but they were very busy. Would definitely go again.

I have visited the Ropery coffee shop many times and it is always a pleasure. If you are a carnivore you may not find it to your liking as the dishes are mainly vegetarian but I always find the lunches to be a delight. I do eat meat but I am more than happy to eat vegetarian especially when it is as tasty as at the Ropery. The staff are always helpful and considerate and are friendly. The only problem is that the place gets very, very busy. This obviously reflects the popularity. I thoroughly enjoy the visits and will certainly return.

A great place to go for a light meal. It has a range of vegetarian options but meat eaters are also catered for. They use good quality ingredients. It is also a good place to visit for coffee and home made cakes. The cakes always include a gluten free option. Very friendly service in pleasant surroundings. It is worth taking a look round at the different art exhibition that are held in the same building.

Friendly staff, good service and plesant sourandings. We normally call in arond lunch time for a breckfast which is reasonable priced and very good. on a nice day you can sit outside by the pool / lake. I think there is a fishing shop and one can fish ? I think they also rent static homes ? you would have to inquire we only pop in for a meal.

Have been multiple times since the new ownership, first time was terrible and I notified the owners as they were new at the time but didn’t leave a review. Been great since until today. Me and my partner (vegetarian) went we ordered soup & sandwich combo (Chicken/Bacon Mayo) and Brie & Cranberry Panini with Chips. Food comes and my sandwich was hot Bacon & Chicken with mayo, but was expecting a cold pre-mixed Chicken & Bacon mayo, but I can deal with that. My partner was about to bite his Panini and thought it didn’t look right so decided to open it and found that it was Bacon & Cranberry with no Brie. We took the plate to the young girl that served us and told them, they took the plate but didn’t get a single apology. And eventually got a replacement when I had nearly finished my food. My partner is vegetarian by choice for over 20 years, however some people are due to health reasons and could cause serious issues. I have been in contact with the owners to pre-warn them of the negative review I’ll be leaving and they have offered an apology and refund. I have declined the refund as we did eat the food eventually received correctly. They also lost out on us ordering desserts and more drinks due to what happened and went elsewhere on the way home. The owners have advised they will be speaking to staff and have made a change on the till to highlight it’s a vegetarian meal so hopefully won’t happen again, but the damage has already been done and will put us off visiting for quite sometime.
