However the food was superb(could have warmed the plates to keep food hotter as we were eating outside) everything else excellent . It is a shame that it is closing next weekenddue to redevelopment in the area . It is a quirky, individual cafe serving good food .

Very central location, just next to London Bridge station. The entrance looks like a standard office building, but that's the right place. It has an amazing terrace where you can enjoy nice cocktails or a refreshing beer. The restaurant is tiny though, so you'd better make a reservation before you head there. Shame you can not dine outside. Even though it's so central, there is no noise from the busy bridge or station. Loved this! I'd definitely recommend it for after work drinks!

The Rooftop Cafe is a strange place - the service is poor, as though the staff havenot been trained. I was asked at least four times whether I had reserved a table, drinkswere slow to arrive in the bar area, I saw some people were not served at all (it was asthough they had not been noticed). The first bottle of wine we ordered had to be returned, it tased like cider. My pulled chicken was not pulled at all and on enquiring why, was told that the chef thought "it didn't look right". Well if it didn't look right then don't serve it!

The selection of drinks is limited, but it is only a small place so perhaps that's to be expected.

I wouldn't go again, sorry. The food is the driver here, no question. Our meal itself was flawless and a corked bottle of wine exchanged without quibble. The wine list is interesting and reasonably priced too. The furnishings are not swanky, so think twice before you bring anyone here you want to impress. But the concept is casual and about the food - a unique and welcome addition to the London Bridge quarter. Lunch for two with a bottle of wine was £100.

Although we knew the menu would be slightly off beat the example menu on the website did not represent what was on offer the night we went. The food is high quality but peppers with a slice of brown bread (however you phrase it up) and a dollop of creme fraiche for £12 is expensive! Trying to be too fancy and cool can sometimes not work. We went on a Saturday night. Outside, which is lovely to sit at, was initially busy for people sitting having drinks but by 7.30pm there were only a few of the tables taken for people eating inside. Service was slow to say they were not full and having one bottle of wine at a reasonable London price then such a jump to every other choice is always frustrating!

I had breakfast at the rooftop cafe for my birthday last weekend and I was disappointed by the standard of the food. I had the french toast with bacon and my partner had sausage, egg and toast. My french toast had lots of sultanas/raisins in it which made it very sickly. I think they should mention that it has fruit on the menu as french toast does not normally contain fruit. My bacon was underdone so lacked the crispiness it ought to have.My partners toast was burnt as was his eggs which seemed to have a black coating underneath. He said the sausages also lacked flavour. We should've complained but I felt it would spoil the day but in hindsight I wish I didn't give them a chance to correct their mistakes. It was a disappointing start to my birthday but the one positive was the view as it was right next to the Shard. It was a little tricky to find as the entrance is located within an office building so we actually walked straight past it at first. There were quite a few steps to go up as the lift wasn't working. It was fine for us but wouldn't be good for the less mobile.I think I would go back just to have a drink and enjoy the view.

I am a big fan of the Rooftop Cafe, I enjoy its unassuming entrance, the quirky decor and the laid back staff. This is a restaurant with some character. If you are looking for the fine slick fine dinning experience of Aqua or Oblix, this isn't it. If however, you would prefer something with a bit more charm and quirk then definitely book a table here. In summer you can sit out on the roof terrace sipping wine and admiring the view. The menu is always interesting and quite seasonal, with fresh produce. If you are sat inside you can enjoy the intimate feel as it is relatively small and the kitchen is open to view. This is definitely worth a visit, but be warned it is quite hard to find even with the very central location!

Having read the good T.A. reviews, I booked for a party of ten for lunch at one o'clock on a Sunday in JulyI had read that the entrance and staircase should not put us off. That bit was truly awful. Everyone was looking at each other, and wondering "what has he brought us to this time?" As it was a very special Anniversary, I was worried. When we entered the Rooftop, things looked a lot better, and we had a warm welcome. Things changed for the worse again when we turned into the open-air dining area. Long wooden benches and tables with paint that needed refreshing - OMG!!We ordered drinks. I wanted a Famous Grouse whisky (the leading brand of Scotch blended whiskies) - they don't stock it. OK then, I'll have a Jack Daniels on the rocks - they don't stock it. Happily everyone else got what they wanted, but I was beginning to feel quite grumpy and not in the party spirit. That was the nadir. From then, things began to improve - but slowly. The sun was shining, the open air location was really very pleasant. Our Server was excellent- an Aussie from Queensland. Big smile. She couldn't do enough to please us, and it was she who turned the mood around. The lunch menu was brief but interesting. The food was well presented and positively delicious and after a glass or two of wine, the conversation and laughter was non-stop. We spent three hours there in the end, and were sorry to go. One of our party , who is quite fussy about his food, made a point of shaking hands with kitchen staff, and thanking them for an excellent lunch. I kissed our Server.Having started on a sour note, we ended all feeling contented.Rooftop Cafe is quirky, unpretentious but almost certainly will please you. A group of 3 friends were meeting for drinks and we had heard about this place so called to book a table in advance to be told no bookings for drinks but if you arrive by 5 you'll be fine. One of us got there first and bagged a table and 15mins later I arrived and buzzed the intercom to be told they were full. I said my friend had a table and she let me in and when I got upstairs it was empty! Friend number 3 arrived 5mins later but they refused to let her in even though she said we had a table upstairs. We spoke to the bar staff on the way out to complain that our friend was left downstairs who said they were keeping the room free for food bookings (if they had told us this on the phone we wouldn't have bothered). We ended up leaving and as we left a group were let in! The attitude of the bar staff and poor quality of the outdoor seating lets this place down. I definitely wouldn't return for those reasons, I can see the same angle of the shard from the pavement with less attitude.

Firstly, one thing to be aware of... The restaurant is hard to find with no obvious signs at street level and the entrance through what looks like an unused office block.Once inside, the restaurant is small and quirky. The decor is simple but lovely and it has a good atmosphere. The terrace outside provides amazing views of the Shard and London skyline. The food however was very disappointing. Apparently they change the menu everyday which could explain the tasteless food. On paper the dishes sound very interesting but sadly the chefs hadn't quite mastered the combination of flavours. Perhaps they should concentrate on perfecting dishes rather than constantly changing the menu. The food generally was fairly bland and the dishes weren't served to everyone at the table at the same time so most of us ended up eating our food cold after waiting for everyone's food to arrive. We had a lovely evening but you are definitely paying for the quirkiness and location of this restaurant rather than the quality of the food and wine.

I must confess when I turned up at the address, I feared I'd made a big mistake in my booking. The restaurant is located in a very shabby, non-descript office building a stones throw from London Bridge train station. The rather convoluted access route up the lift, then stairs to the rooftop did nothing to dispel the trepidation.

However on entering restaurant itself, my fears began to be allayed. The venue itself is decorated in a modernist version of shabby chic, slightly reminiscent of '60s Habitat. It's not a large venue, but there is a roof terrace (closed when I visited due to the wet weather). We were fortunate to have a table by the window with a good view south over Guys Hospital quad.

The menu is small, a choice of 4 starters, and 4 mains (2 meat, 1 fish and 1 vegetarian option) - but all very well priced. We didn't peruse the wine menu as this was a business lunch.

Both of us chose the halloumi cheese firtter to start, which was well paired with some tahini, and leaves, followed by a large breaded pork escalope served with potatoes, and a fennel salad.

The portion sizes were generous to a fault - the pork escalope defeated my lunch guest. consequently we didn't venture into the realms of the dessert menu - although the ice cream sandwich looked very tempting. A coffee each rounded off the meal.

The atmosphere was relaxed, and service not intrusive. The RoofTop Cafe certainly fits the bill of a good value, local gem that I'll be definitely returning to.

The restaurant was tucked away without obvious signs, with the entrance up stairs/lift as if you were heading in to an office location, very quirky. Having arrived early we headed to the outside patio area for a drink, great views from here even though you aren't actually very high up.

The food was very good, we just went for a main course. There were only 4 options, due to the small size of the restaurant and kitchen (2 staff).

The only negative comment would be the waitress telling us to choose any table, however the one we chose she then said you can only have this for 1 hr, then you will have to move to another table so I said how long should be normally have with a booking and she said 2hrs. I felt like it was suddenly our problem that they have a small restaurant. The waitress should have just taken us to a 2hr table. It was an awkward moment as I was on a date!

I would definitely go back though, food and views are great!

Disappointed with the wait then between meals. From the small plate to the main meal it was 1 hour. The walnut cake was cold and stale and not moist at all.

Overall the food was nice, slightly expensive but generous portions.

Lovely restaurant tucked away behind London Bridget station. Delicious food, interesting choices & cooked to perfection. Friendly staff. Would highlight recommend! I'll definitely be going back when the weather picks up to enjoy their roof terrace bbq. Definitely try the rhubarb infused g&t's.

I read mixed reviews of this place on Tripadvisor but decided to give it a go anyway and I'm pleased I did. We were staying at the Shangri La Hotel in the Shard and wanted to eat somewhere local and you can't get more local than this, you can see the terrace of the Rooftop Cafe from the reception of the Shangri La, it's directly below! They can't get any passing trade as you wouldn't know it was there from street level, you have to buzz to gain entry to a drab looking office building then take the lift to the second floor and then negotiate narrow concrete stairs up to the restaurant. I hadn't told my wife where we were going and the look on her face was a treat... she was wondering where the heck is he taking me now! But all was revealed as we entered this great little restaurant which has a warm ambience and contemporary flare. I had booked and asked for a table with a view which we got, our server John was great, very friendly and attentive. Never mind the view the food was a treat, to start we had arancini and the Ham hock, peas, pea shoots, lovage, pickled egg, our mains were Lamb cutlets, Ratte potatoes, purple sprouting broccoli, Harbourne Blue and Hake, watercress, asparagus, almond rouille, the rouille was amazing. We washed this down with a bottle of Pierre Luneau Papin, Gros Plant, France 2013, excellent at £18 a bottle. We were entertained though out by a gaggle of 'youngish ladies' wearing clothing that appeared to be two sizes too small at an adjacent table. They all appeared to have partaken in a few drinks before arriving, one sat with her eyes closed and her mouth open for most of the evening, she had her open handbag in her lap and at one point I thought she might vomit into it! The other 'girls' were in good voice and discussed topics including loosing their virginity (two with the same man!). We had an excellent evening and shall return. Great place to surprise friends with.

We were introduced to The Rooftop Cafe on a Sip, Taste & Indulge tour of the london Borough Market area . You could pass this place and not know it was there. It is above an office block almost next to the Shard. It has inside seating as well as a rooftop area which is where this place shines with exceptional views of the Shard and other landmarks. As this was our first stop on our tour we were presented with a breakfast which was excellent. I cannot comment on the food generally as this was a fixed option but what we ate was very good. Try to find this little gem (postcode SE1 9SG) as it is worth the effort.

As a life long lover of The Times I should probably say that the first reason this restaurant attracted me was because it looks over their offices (and up the Shard). Entered through an office lobby the space is small but with a large terrace. We started the evening by having the most delicious (and very well balenced) Somerset sours outside, looking out over London. Supper was then a delightful nettle soup, accompanied by wonderfully fresh bread, and followed by beautifully cooked pigeon. Espresso and Pedro Ximenes on the terrace rounded off a lovely meal.

It took us a while to locate the restaurant, we rang the restaurant and the staff were really helpful in giving directions. When we got in we were early and they still accommodated us. We had been travelling all day and stepping into this quaint restaurant here lifted all of the tension. The background music was peaceful and unobtrusive. Wine was amazing we selected a white to compliment the Wild Rabbit. Course after course was beautifully made and very tasty. The portion sizes were very generous and we went away feeling full, happy and relaxed. I am returning within the same month for my Birthday! Thanks for the great experience Rooftop Cafe! I am excited to return with my Partner this time.

Told that tables were allocated in 2 hourly slots. After 1 hour 35 mins we had received only one drinks order and starters. The soup was tepid but OK. My wife's devilled kidneys were either burnt to a cinder or raw. Sent them back to the kitchen only for the burnt ones to be removed but not replaced and the returned dish now comprised of only the re cooked previously under cooked kidneys. We asked for an order of bread but this never arrived. An hour or so later having watched other tables receive their orders I asked the waitress where our order was. It arrived one minute later cold. My lamb was cold and disgusting. My wife and our two guests had fish with Risotto. All cold and all disgusting. My wife's Risotto sat in a pool of cold fluid. We could not eat what was served and asked for the bill. I complained and the manageress reduced my bill from £117 to £65 which I paid but no apology was received. Quite frankly £5 would have been more than it was worth but having waited for so long we were late for our next engagement and I did not have either the time or inclination to argue. A terrible experience

I can see that most of the reviews here are good. My experience here was far from good.I went for lunch with work colleagues yesterday. We called beforehand and asked to reserve a table outside. They said that they don't take reservations for outside and to just come along. When we got there, we were asked why we didn't make a reservation. We told them that they had advised us to just come along. The woman rudely said 'well you should have booked inside'. We weren't going to book inside when we wanted to sit outside.Anyway, we sat outside and ordered our food. We only ordered starters and sides and we waited 45 minutes! We asked how much longer it would be. A waitress replied in the most patronising tone 'Well, they're probably still cooking it'. When the food finally did arrive, my dish wasn't there. I had to sit and watch my colleagues eat for 20 minutes until they had cooked my food from scratch. The bill came, and it wasn't cheap, certainly not worth the hassle. The food itself was lovely, but none of us will be returning, that's for sure!

I like the Rooftop Cafe and have been several times. On the latest occasion it was more expensive than I remembered it being, perhaps because it is getting more popular? The food is well cooked and unpretentious. I also really enjoy their cocktails. However the menu is not extensive and it can be difficult to actually get into the building sometimes!

The Rooftop cafe is hidden away on top of a nondescript office building near London Bridge station. It is a great venue for lunch or an evening meal al fresco. The food was interesting and it was a pity that it was a bit over-salted. I had a chicken dish that consisted of bits of interestingly roasted chicken. Apart from the saltiness the flavours were good - there could have been a bit more chicken though. The wine selection was good. I would thoroughly recommend it for an al fresco dining experience.

It was lovely to have a drink in the open top bar on this sunny evening. If it had been raining it would have been a completely different matter! Moved into the restaurant to have a delicious meal of squid for starters (which was the best squid I have had in a long time) for me and tempura spring onions for him, place for my main and the most moist pork for him. Shared a rather naughty yet yummy desert. Recommend this place as a top place to go for date night.

Went here for a date lunch on a weekday. The cafe isn't on the tallest of buildings (three storeys), so the view isn't as spectacular as we expected but was still nice. The outdoor seating area is lovely and would be even more attractive as the days get warmer.

The food wasn't so value for money, especially the quantity of the main course dish we ordered. The dessert, however, was really nice. The menu keeps changing, however, so you may have a different experience.

The staff is warm and friendly, and oblige politely if you want to switch tables or take a picture!

Would recommend.

Lovely little hidden gem next to the shard.you go in to a normal looking office building, up to the 2nd floor then up a narrow staircase to enter the cafe,we went without a booking on a saturday afternoon and managed to get a table.we both had panchetta hash with fried eggs and it was delicious, which was priced at £10 each.Lovely views of the shard when you go out on to the roof terrace.where we was sitting also had a great view.My only complaint was the price of a beer, £6.50 for a bottle, not cheap even by london standards.

When I arrived back from a solitary wet and misty ride to Box Hill (trying belatedly to get some miles in and lose some kgs) before the summer rides I entered last December. I was told we were off out for a surprise bank holiday lunch. This hardish to find cafe in the sky was just perfect - good table with a view of the old Guys operating theatre. For me - salt cod fritter with tartare sauce and then onglet, polenta and rocket with pesto. For my wife - watercress soup with a poached duck egg and then rabbit and pork rilletes . Pluses - stylish dining room with a friendly atmosphere and a view of the london skyline and open kitchen, innovative well executed cooking using sustainable ingredients and charming service, good house Tempranillo and great coffee. Close to Borough Market, Southwark Cathedral and Guys Hospital for an after lunch explore. Minuses - just one - the clean plates and empty bottle mean I will need to ride again tomorrow.

The access is certainly strange but well signposted. The stairs after the lift are not salubrious and you wonder what you are doing there. But the restaurant itself is charming with lovely views and the staff are friendly. We got a bit confused by the menu- were there starters and main course or not? The choice was interesting and the food delicious. It is all freshly cooked so two courses takes a while- don't come for a full meal if you are in a hurry Excellent value though and a great and unusual find.
