When a male member of the public is off his head, dancing like he's head butting people, and the security staff do nothing. And they wonder why women don't come into the bar . Disgraceful

Visited this evening and band The Echoes performing brilliant, the music/vocals excellent. Service at the bar was good and very reasonable prices for a city centre pub in York. Low profile security staff made for a very pleasant night. Fully recommend.

Only went to the pub - fairly typical selection of beers, but the vibe of the live music on Friday nights is absolutely smashing!

What a fabulous pub this is. Called in on a rainy Bank Holiday Monday afternoon and was served by a friendly, happy lady. We had 2 glasses of wonderful Sauvignon blanc. There were tv' s on for those wanting to watch sport and music playing. There is a lovely little beer garden which also has a tv and am sure would be perfect on a sunny day. I great find and will be back.

What have they done to it, this place used to be great and always packed. The paintings on the walls gave it real character, now it's just an average bland pub with a few TV screens and nobody in it.

2025 update: meant to be a sports bar now but no sport shown on a Saturday night despite tennis, La Liga & numerous other events happening, TVs just showing adverts for a horse race, presumably because they didn't know how to make races plural for the Grand National meeting - not a sports bar.

Great place for live music on Fridays and karaoke on Wednesday

Although not very large, the Roman bath is impressive, and the guide was very informative, with a good sense of humour. At the end of the tour, you climb some stairs and enter the pub above where you receive a warm welcome and a good choice of drinks.

A DJ or a band on Saturday nights sometimes, easy to get served, friendly enough staff.

We went for a drink at the pub and also to visit the museum. Very nice to see and learn a lot about the history.

The Roman Bath is named after the 70AD roman bath house that was only discovered in the 1920s when the previous building on the site was demolished to build this pub. There is a wide selection of beers, larger and cider, but unfortunately, there are no cask conditioned real ales. The pub walls are covered in Roman murals and are well worth seeing. If you visit this pub you must visit the museum and bath house in the cellar it is well worth the modest £3.50 charge. There is a very knowledgeable guide at the entrance who is more than happy to answer your questions. If you are visiting York, this is one pub you must come to.

Very reasonably priced pub in the centre of York. No pretentions of being anything other than a pub. No nonsense place to drink your beer.

We visited the public house on Saturday, it was a little manic and busy we were a group of 3 couples We were told on entry that there was no seating which we were fine with that There were quite a few merry people which is good The seating where we were standing had all been put aside and stacked up, this was due to them having a act on shortly It became rowdy as a group of drunks both male and female were staggering about in front of us One fell over and fell into us spilling all our drinks and my friend red wine covered us ruining our clothing expensive clothing!one of the male in the groups was aggressively sorry! He was itching to start a fight with his drunken attitude The staff did absolute nothing so we left On walking out we told the doorman about the group and he ignored us completely My partner said “aren’t you going to do anything “ his abrupt reply was “no” Will not be returning and will not be recommending to anyone

Stayed 1 night bathroom had no light just a mirror light the shower head was broken and the beds were like a shuggy boat ..not the best x very noisy x

Stayed there over the weekend with my wife. The Hosts were extremely friendly and made us feel at home. Best location in town. Will deffo be back again.

Sobre lite ambiente estéril sobre las bebidas a precio. El gerente/arrendador tiene una actitud. Pronto será un bar deportivo. Genial en el día para bandas en vivo y todavía es un buen lugar de música.

Friendly bar man, decently priced drinks. I must also add that the toilets there were clean which is always a nice touch.

Happy to serve me my first drink....... Then 30 minutes later for no reason at all, they refused to serve me my second. No reasons why. I simply left and went elsewhere, I couldn't be bothered to even ask why.

Entered with my parents and sat in the beer garden without a drink as I wanted to wait, went to buy a drink and was told I couldn't be served I politely accepted and returned to the beer garden where I was met by two bouncers from another establishment in which they told me to leave , they then contacted the bar next door not to let me in , I would understand if I was being disorderly but I was completely respectful , they said I couldn't just sit there without ordering a drink but was refused to buy one

Cracking pub with live music in the centre of York.

Booked a room for a cycling trip. Soon the pub told me that this particular room is next to the night club and maybe noisy. I really do appreciate this behaviour.

Cold room, windows practically don't close, approximate service. Threaded and torn towels. 60's bathroom

What a great stop for a drink. Clean and neat decor to match the name. We did not stay here just stopped in for a pint.

Staff try so hard, excellent location.

The people were welcoming and room was nice enough but the shower in our room didn't work. You could tell it hadn't worked for a while yet no one told us when we got there.

Great cold drinks. Staff frosty towards non-regulars, but great place for a drink anyway.

The pub had good service and was clean. We did not stay here, but did attend the museum downstairs, which was very interesting. Staff were happy to answer any questions and had lots of knowledge to share. There was a dress up corner that children would particularly enjoy. Well worth a visit if you are in York

We called in on a weekend to York recently and found they have live music (we love live music) so stayed in to see the bands Friday and returned Saturday night both bands fantastic loud as Rock music should be 😊..The staff was all lovely and friendly and the drinks went down well..the toilets etc was fine and clean..the outdoors area was brilliant this glorious weather weekend.. Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay here and there's a Roman Baths museum downstairs.

A good old pub in the centre of york that looks like its never been touched since the romans were there 😁 but I love pubs with a bit of proper character not the disney inspired 'theme ' pubs . Price of drinks were reasonable aswell .

Just popped in for a pint. It wasn't unpleasant but maybe it isn't the classiest place... Not offending anyone particularly but I did actually see a used condom on the floor on my way out.

A nice, bright and atmospheric place.

Had an absolutely fabulous New year's Eve 2024 in this pub

This is great place for a weekend away, right in the heart of York. Really comfy beds, tea and coffee in the room, really clean and exceptionally friendly. The room is over the pub, so a bit noisy, but we expected that so it wasn't an issue.

Top place, especially when the bands on!

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Absolutely awful place. Room was shocking, wallpaper peeling off the wall, shower room so small I had to step out to dry myself, dirty and mouldy, broken shower, but the worst thing was the noise. How the owners have the nerve to take payment without warning people beforehand beggars belief. It was totally horrendous.

Intended watching a band but there's been a major cutback in occasions. Shame!

I went for a drink here, was very fresh and tasty, lots of nice selection. Husband drank the 1 ale but loved it enough to stay for another. Staff were super friendly and for a Monday was busy and cozy. It was so warm and having it this warm really shows they think of the customer. It's in a great location and they played good music but you can easily hear eachother. The historic aspect is very interesting and overall I am pleased to give it 5 stars, toilet was a bit smelly but I'm not sure if that's just because of new activity

DO NOT USE THIS PUB. The so called bar manager SHARON overcharged me. She’s a thief and stealing drinks. I ordered a gin and tonic and half cider and blk currant. Whilst I watched her prepare the drinks she also took a vodka out the optic. Left it on the bar near the optics. Overcharged me by £4.00 at least, when I questioned her about the vodka and overpayment she made me wait. I’d caught her out!! I’d check your stocks on Vodka when SHARON is working.

Rooms are shabby and ours smelled like an ashtray. We weren't expecting luxury because of the low price. But expectations weren't quite low enough! Beds were well past their lifespan. Towel rail broken. The noisiest hotel room we've ever stayed in. A kebab van parked outside our window while we were out and ran its generator till gone 3 am. Followed by early morning deliveries and street cleaning.

Looks lovely from the outside, but the worst night ever. Noisey street all night from loud drunks at 2.30, rubbish collection 4.30 deliveries from 4.30 onwards, think I got about 2 hrs sleep. Room was stuffy but noise level didn't reduce with window shut. Beds were uncomfortable, shower was either a hot dribble or freezing cold with some flow. Food no longer served, chef had left. Staff were friendly, room cleanish with broken furniture Would never stay again, not worth £75 per night. However we had a great time in York.

Called in just for a quick drink. The museum is downstairs, where, for a small charge, you can actually go and see the ruins of the old roman baths.

Small but friendly pub in the heart of York. Live music on the evening we visited- played some good stuff.

A very small museum in the basement of a pub. pretty much just the remains of a hypocaust with a few props, but for 3.50 for a bit of kids entertainment, it's pretty cool.

Roman baths was really nice place

Never again! It could have been a nice stay, but between the nightclub next door, boisterous people constantly ambling through the courtyard below the entire night through to late morning, the nearby noisy food van generator chugging away until 4:30am, early morning garbage collection and truck deliveries right outside our room, we had a torturous night of no sleep. Had we a decent bed, stretches of sleep might have been possible, but both beds were diabolically uncomfortable with springs poking into us through various sagging sections. Room 1 desperately needs new beds. It was clean and staff were nice but sorry, that doesn’t make up for a night of discomfort and no sleep.

Lovely place, kareoke night every Wednesday was a surprise but didn’t disturb too much as finished at 11:30pm. Lovely clean room. Close walk to Shambles market and 6 Min walk to Minster.

Hotel céntrico, a pocos minutos caminando de lugares importantes como la catedral o el castillo. El check-in se realiza en el pub que está en la planta baja. Te permiten dejar las maletas el día del checkout y recogerlas más tarde. La habitación era bastante sencilla, aunque ofrecen toallas, jabón, etc. La ducha es bastante complicada de usar, ya que se tiene que encender previamente por fuera tirando de un cordón, y después ajustarla con diferentes botones (nunca había visto ese sistema). La cama tenía las sábanas sucias (parecía que estaban quemadas y, aunque se hubieran lavado, seguía la marca). Los colchones son de muelles, un poco incómodos si te gustan las camas más duras. La habitación no cuenta con mantas extra. Es un lugar muy ruidoso, desde primera hora de la mañana había camiones por fuera descargando mercancía para las tiendas cercanas. No estaba aislado y tampoco tiene aire acondicionado. Me parece que tiene un precio excesivo para lo que ofrecen. Tampoco tienes incluida la entrada al museo de la planta baja, ya que son dos empresas diferentes (por lo que nos explicaron).

Stayed for the weekend and was great right in the center of York so everything's super close by and also had two live bands on over the weekend which we was informed about well in advance the band on Saturday absolutely killed it with some great covers and the whole atmosphere was amazing will 100 percent recommend and will be back in the future

Food was good and staff were polite

nice wee haunt, some good crisp Amstels mid morning in the midst of a hot day. Nice staff and good chat with one of the regular locals. We'd went downstairs to the actual bath museum some years back. It's also a really interesting building given what it was. There seems to be good entertainment PM (will need to try again at somepoint.)

We booked this late for somewhere to stay. In that respect it was great. But if you are looking for a pub open afterc8pm, forget it.

Great place to stay very friendly great pub and good food, but if you stay be prepared for early deliveries by brewery which wasn't an issue for me as I'm an early riser, it is what it is your staying above a pub I loved it
