Fox and Roman in York

Lovely cosy venue, didn't actually order any food, just had coffee. So unable to advise on the food.

Such a cute place for a dinner while visiting York. We had a big party and they were very accommodating when we placed our booking for the evening. Our servers Jackub and George were very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Would highly recommend to stop in for a bite.

We made a booking for 7:30, we arrived on time we got seated but after 20 minutes we hadn’t even received a menu or even been spoken to by the two girls who were serving other tables. It was extremely awkward and rude of them as they walked past 10 times and still nothing .

We always enjoy the excellent food and drink. Service can be a while at busy times. But that is to be expected!

The wait on food orders was not acceptable. Arrived five minutes prior to booking time and waited an hour and a half for a main meal. Food quality good, time to wait poor. Dessert was another long wait, although probably the best part of the meal. Desert was delicious. Establishment nice, pretty environment, although what appeared an average night, I certainly think the time for service could be improved. I don't mind waiting for good quality food, however these times were above average. It took 3 hours for a three course meal which was overall average and when with children whilst I was in no rush, food waits are definitely an issue here. Probably wouldn't recommend or return.

Staff are lovely, but the prices for food are expensive we literally got about 8 chips for £4 and the baked mushrooms on a tiny piece of bread was definitely overpriced!!

Another great visit to the Fox and Roman today. Great team, always friendly and welcoming, always a pleasure to pop in after a long day at work to unwind. First place on my list to enjoy an evening meal on a weekend with the family.

Both our fish and chips were well over cooked after waiting 45 minutes for them. Discounted meal, but it didnt make up for the disappointment and wasted venture.

Busy Sunday but the vegetables were cold, potatoes underdone. The size of the Mac and cheese is disgusting £5 for 3 forkfuls. This used to be a really nice place for Sunday dinner but is just a rip off now.

Sophie was a really lovely server and couldn’t have done more for us. Lovely friendly establishment and we had to hobble out because we were so stuffed full. Toilets were clean & in great condition. Open fire is a lovely feature! We were very grateful for the warmth. Thank you for the delicious meal, we’ll be back :)

An excellent experience at the Fox and Roman. Our server was called Beth, she was excellent, very helpful and quick with any requests. Couldn’t change one thing about our experience. The bar staff were brilliant - very knowledgeable about all wines, Ned was particularly helpful with different cocktail recommendations. Well done everyone.

We booked a table for 4 for lunch and I’m so pleased we visited here, I had a nut allergy and they couldn’t do enough to make sure it wasn’t a problem, the food is amazing we all thought so and the service was fantastic, after being in catering for over 25 years i can truly say I was very impressed, we will definitely be back and highly recommend this place if you want to celebrate a special meal, big thank you to all the staff including the kitchen, clearly you’ve got a very good team and I’m sure this will soon be that busy you’ll have to book weeks in advance James & Dawn xx

It was just a brilliant evening.

We thoroughly enjoyed dining here for supper - lovely building and atmosphere. My chicken & mushroom pie had a perfect crust and very savory filling, husband was pleased with the seared sea bass plate. Very good desserts. Efficient service by a delightful young lady - thank you from the visiting Americans!

My experience at the fox and Roman was the most if it the best experience I have had in a pub, the food was immaculate. The server ( Angela) was so kind and welcoming. I just adore this pub 5 stars!

Have been coming year every year (bar one) since 2007. Love coming to York. Ordered a double JD and coke and double mountain gay rum and Diet Coke. The first drink was fine but there was no rum at all in my drink. My husband took it back but the barmaid insisted she remembered putting the rum in. Won’t be coming again.

Yet another fantastic meal and the staff were very welcoming too. We came with one if our friends to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. We vist york a lot and have been to the fox and Roman before. It didn't disappoint, we be seeing you again next year.

We were a little put off by recent reviews but from the minute we were greeted and given a seat the service was first class. The wine was reasonably priced ,the food was served promptly and delicious. We would definitely recomend.

Well, am a big fan of Vintage Inn and loved the Dormouse. I have always said the food is good high quality food, fantastic presentation and super prices and a great place for dogs. Unfortunately, life took a turn which meant I haven't been able to visit the outside world much for the passed two years and along with a unplanned relocation I found myself local to F&R. It was my 3rd attempt tonight for visiting, on my last two attempts I actually arrived after the kitchen had closed. Always believe everything happens for a reason and tonight the service I and everyone else received was just what I needed. I was blownaway because I always said that the Dormouse was the best but these guys pulled it out the bag. Everything was spot on, nothing to much of a problem. Friendly staff and great food. I was clear the staff were tired after working hard impacted by the great weather and only a little bit extra wait time because nobody was rushed and I will take that anytime. Within 5 minutes of talking to Jane a new team member I was online booking in for Christmas. Something I never thought I would do but life is full of ups and downs and am so looking forward to my Christmas at the F& R. New - Hello, very sorry. I have just seen your response. It reminded me of how positive and full of energy I was. Just in case, I will do my best to check that you know but please allow the table for someone else. I will longer be able to attend.

Wonderful atmosphere as soon as you walk in. Staff are lovely and make you feel welcome. The menu is good, some unusual twist to some dishes, we had a lovely meal and look forward to returning. Thanks to the staff

Food was all overcooked burnt burger one out of the 2 fishcakes was just a crispy rock. The bacon chop and chips was OK. For the price expected a lot more service tried hard but had to ask twice for drinks ended up just going to the bar which was fine. Had been looking forward to going but probably the worst food from a pub I have had. Sorry

We came for a family meal on Sunday, and I just wanted to say how lovely, friendly and helpful Jayne was with us! Nothing was too much trouble, she very apologetic over things that were out of her control, and I think she handled things amazingly! She’s an absolute credit to your team! Food was tasty! Although the children’s tomato pasta was extremely watery!

The Fox and Roman in Dringhouses, York. Really good dinner with family on Sat 28th Sept, served professionally and timely by Jakub and the team. Really friendly, helpful staff, all made our experience memorable. Would definitely recommend and visit again if in the area. A winning team.

We went there for our Anniversary Dinner, which was an extremely wonderful experience for us. It is not just because of the food, but also the excellent customer service given to us by Jakub and the others. We are only visiting York and when we come back, we will surely visit again. I will recommend this to my friends who plan to visit as well.

Friendly pub with food close to our hotel. Enjoyed our meal.I had chicken skewers with hummus which was very good.My husband had chicken burger which was tasty but lacking in chicken

Overall we thought the food was very good. I had the lamb skewer and it was a bit over charred. Other than that all was well. We had Jakub as our server and we're very happy with his service.

Downloaded a voucher for £10 off a bill over £40. Presented it to the server when bill arrived to be told it was not valid. Apparently it takes 24 hours for the App code to go ' through the syem' I.e. SCAM.

Ned was bang on! Great service! Great food!

The Fox And Roman is a very large tudor style pub opposite the race course. It has been very nicely refurbished, and there are lots of different seating areas and cosy corners. There is a wide selection of beer's lager and cider, including four hand-pulled cask conditioned real ales. The staff are very friendly and efficient, and the food menu looked very tempting, i didn't have anything to eat, but the dishes i saw coming out of the kitchen looked very nice. There is no dartboard or pool table. The pub is more food orientated and has a nice up market feel to it. The real ales were in excellent condition when i visited, and the pub is dog friendly. Highly recommended.

Our first true British pub experience and it was so good we enjoyed it 2 nights in a row. Competent food, good variety and nicely prepared. Flavours were good. It was a very social place, nice locals to chat to. They taught us the intricacies of ordering at the bar and carrying your own drinks. Enjoyable and good food as well.

Best triple cooked chips even Friendly and quick service. Well worth a visit.

Food was really good and the staff were great but there’s was very limited food choice with lots of food off the menu which is why its an 3* The table choice was terrible. We were seated in a little nook at the bottom of the stairs which were used for the toilets so every 2 minutes people were walking past our table, there is also a corridor off this with an open door so it was very drafty too. The table felt stuck away in a corner with no atmosphere and in the middle of a thoroughfare which really spoilt our evening. We decided not to stay for dessert or extra drinks due to this and headed into york itself

Lovely atmosphere, most of the food was great (although the pie seemed as if it had spent a long time in a warming oven). Staff were pleasant and accommodating. Just one small thing - bringing food to the table and saying ‘the allergy one’ was a bit disconcerting and unnecessary as only one person in our party had ordered that dish. Apart from That it was a lovely time thank you.

The level of service was absolutely brillant, Aaron took time to let us know the day special and few dishes that won't available that day. He was attentive and quick to execute.

The Fox and Roman is so friendly. We were there last night for my husbands birthday. The food was excellent. The staff are so friendly but professional especially Sally and made sure we had everything we needed.

We loved the friendly staff and the ambience at Fox and Roman however were left disappointed to miss out on the main purpose of our visit, the Sunday Roast. We are from Australia so we're really looking forward to the Yorkshire pudding but neither the roast or pudd were available. We ordered the steak and a chicken & mushroom pie which were delicious.

Had 2 great burgers, chicken and speciality with chips, marvelous. ❤

Just visiting York for a few days. The Fox and Roman is just down the road where we are staying and has been our favourite place to drink and eat. We had a meal. Starter, main and pud, all was fantastic. Maria , Aaron and all staff brilliant service 👏 👍

Booked a table over the Internet at 16.30 pm for 17.30 pm. So easy to do. Greeted by Sophie, very helpful server. We both had a Sunday Roast which were both delicious. Absolutely smashing little pub.

Dear Googlers, Well, suffice to say we have a lovely supper, we're looked after very well and genuine courtesy. The reason for visiting was that the evening before, at the Delta Hotel up the road, was awful. When we spoke to members of the family, local Police Officers, they raised an eyebrow. So we guess there is a certain reputation that needs to be overturned. As we are regularly visiting York, we'll be visiting again. Will report back. C
