Thia pub is a quality bar with a good range of drinks, also darts and pool table as well as on Fridays when there is enough number a quiz. Saturday karaoke and discount for students on set days. The landlord David has two little dogs that are characters, do not worry about there barks, they are fussy pots. Staff are great and always willing to talk. Also events through the year that are always fun. Thank you David for local with your team.

Very nice, friendly local pub. Full of the locals which created a warm and welcoming atmosphere, the language was a bit fruity but nice enough people. They have a pool table in the rear section of the pub which attracts many people. Good selection of drinks and nice toilets with very quirky, short, corridor to get to the ladies! Looking forward to going back again next Wednesday!

Hidden gem in earley- pool table and darts

Not a pub you'd easily stumble upon. Attractive decor inside. Comfortable. Lovely landlady. Italian beers on tap (always a good thing). Live music on the evening I visited. Fab stuff.

Really good little pub, the only down side is there's no parking when it gets busy but get their early enough and there's on street parking. Great drinks, good atmosphere for a Christmas do!

A real open honest welcome. Not only from the staff but the pubs atmosphere. Absolutely brilliantly decorated ready for Halloween too. Great beer selection too. I will definitely be paying as many revisits as I can. Food next time.

Visited on Christmas eve to watch a local band. Great atmosphere, regulars friendly and the two ladies behind the bar were awesome 👌 It was a very busy evening and they had the service nailed.....they are a credit to this lovely pub👏 The cheeky chihuahua is adorable too

Ok pub. Small choice of beers, but ok for this kind of pub. Stuff is nice, but have been getting slightly odd looks from the locals. Good enough for quick pint or a few, unfortunately nothing special.

Classic pub. Friendly and nice to see a dart board and pool table! Beer selection bit limited hence not five stars.

Popped in here a couple of weeks back. A bit of a collection of regulars popped in and out while I and my other half had a couple of drinks. I think the team opened the kitchens a bit early so we could have some scampi and chips! Nice place, there was a little dog wandering about which I think belonged to one of the staff, and a couple with a dog in the beer garden. We will be visiting again.

Due to staff illness they were struggling but they were putting on a brave face and doing the best they can, there was food but of a very canteen standard whitch did fill a hole, the carrioki ran until 5:30 and was fun - from me top marks for trying Will do another review when things are more back to normal

My band Mollys Jam played on Friday, great location, excellent decoration & layout with lots of room - great night made better with helpful staff - recommended for all.

Friendly staff, reasonable prices. Live music every Friday, Karaoke every Sunday and quiet enough during the day to come and work with a change of scenery. Have been a regular customer here for years and always received a warm welcome. Venue not currently doing food but I understand that they're planning to bring back food in the new year.

So much for the reviews under this. Heard that bands are playing here so decided to come along. Expected your usual locals local on a back street, quiet, a bit tired, but cheap beer.and food so worth a look for that and a bit of music. What we got was over priced, even by Reading standards, beer, a distinct lack of choice of booze, no food bar crisps, an unwanted high off others openly smoking weed, oh and a bar brawl. Two bar brawls in fact. We joined others in walking out. If I want fights, drugs and a feeling of being robbed for a pint of cheap lager, I'll go into town, at least you know what you're walking into and can prepare for it. Expected an old man's pub where the worst we would get was looks of mistrust as students. Not glasses being lobbed at people and harassment from drunks in the early evening. What a dump!

Such a beautiful pub. The landlord was really attentive and friendly. Bonus was the super cute dog running around. Double bells and coke set me back £7, which I thought was expensive. Although I don't go to pubs very often so could be the going rate these days. Certainly worth a visit and I shall be back.

Nice friendly pub. Plenty of space outside. I better if you book in advance to make sure there is a table available the moment you arrive. Quiet environment (no cars noise or fumes) , classic Rock music (the best hits), sunny even in the late afternoon on one side

Really good pub, friendly owners really enjoyed my night here, was not as busy as most places that have karaoke nights running but not bad night over all, the garden is one of the best iv seen in a while and the pub is clean and tidy. Drinks reasonably priced.

This pub is a hidden gem, had lunch the other day and can not understand why it was so quiet. The food was first rate the beer was super. We were given a warm welcome and great service. Don't tell anyone otherwise it might get to popular and difficult to get into! Definitely one pub I shall keep in my favourites.

Lovely pub located a bit off the beat of the main city streets, with a great outside area and a nice homey feel, great welcoming staff too. Good selection of draft and bottled beers. Will definitely be back there!

Have used this pub 2-3times a week in the last 2 years, My wife Debbie + I have met a great crowd of local people, who always make you feel welcome. David the Landlord + all of his barstaff are fantastic! Everybody is made welcome. Friday night is a bonus, always entertainment. Thanks David.

My local pub. Dog friendly, people friendly, anyone friendly. Food is ok. Not the best of the world, but good for that prize. All comers are smily, friendly, nice. Kinda, family feel. Childrens have a good time in the back garden too.

Proper community pub, friendly atmosphere, great staff and a nice clientele. Its a little like home from home. If you have ever watched the TV programme cheers, the Roebuck is the traditional English version of it.

This pub is just a great little place. Friendly staff, TV for sport, pool table, jukebox, a few board games. Definitely my kind of pub, beer garden. Also they have some events on every now and again so worth having a look what’s on. Also Eric the chihuahua is a lovely addition.

The person who wrote 'Unreliable' was more accurate than most reviews. They advertise meals up to 9.00 p.m. but we went about 8.30 and the kitchen was closed, we were told by a very sour-faced barmaid, no "sorry" about it. She said if it's slack, they close the kitchen at 8.00 p.m. Several times before we have been and the kitchen's been closed, even on days they've said they're open. We've given up trying now and only go there for a drink occasionally. Another reviewer says "by the river"...? I don't know where they were, but the Roebuck's nowhere near a river - they must be talking about some other pub. It's a nice little pub for a drink, but it could be so much better, especially if they stuck to the eating hours they advertise!

I had great meal here with good school friend, gardens lovely, near river, summer evening. Staff very attentive,helpful throughout evening. Meal was good size we both went for grilled Sea bass ,mixed vegetables Mediterranea,with cous cous. It was fab ,looked wonderful, flavour,cooking just right. Desserts all varied good menu. Soon filled up with families,couples, girls night out. Mixed and pleasant. Will be returning.

A proper pub in a world full of plastic bars. Pool table, jukebox, darts, sports on TV. Decent beers on draft and good, reasonably priced food.

Used to be a cosy, authentic 1930's decor neighbourhood pub until it was violated in a "pubco" style some time in 2015, and now it's all purple carpets and feels like the reception area in a Travelodge off the M4. Staff were ok, but best to avoid until it gets some more attention.

This is a right proper local's local. Simple good value pub food, choice of drinks including Roebuck bitter that is a good session beer. Opening hours more generous than shown on Trip Advisor.

Our second visit here and were even more impressed. The food is superb and even though it was mid week there were enough people in to make it a good atmosphere. Definitely will be another visit.

After rocking up to my hotel about 5 minute walk away I couldn't stand spending any more time than necessary in there! Luckily I found The Roebuck, spent 3 nights evenings there, good reasonably priced beer, food was old pub grub and they played any sport I ask for! Brilliant pub and after a couple of days I felt like a local! A must visit!

A bit quiet but a really lovely beautiful little local

The pub is very pleasent, nice beer (Abbots ale) generally a feel good pubhowever... We are working in Reading for several months and the Roebuck is a handy place to eat and drink, if they decide to serve food.We have been there 9 times now in the last two months. On 3 of those occasions the "kitchen is closed". Food is advertised as being served untill 21:00 hours. When we called in the other night (20:30) we were told that the kitchen had closed early, sorry.By this time it was too late to get to the alternative place before they stopped serving food so chip shop then.This was the 3rd out of 9 times we had been and the kitchen was closed (33% failure rate) and 3 out of the remaining 6 we did not require food, so you could say only 3 out of 6( or 50% failure rate)We have given up on the Roebuck completely.....Best of luck if you want to eat.......

If you like a cheap food and don't mind poorly kept ales and grumpy rude bar staff, then this is the pub for you. This local bar tries hard to be all things to all punters with; Sky Sports, a pool table, a dartboard, occasional DJ's and free WiFi, but it's not an enjoyable experience for a family.Despite the kids menu, this is not a child friendly bar. Today while I ate dinner with my young daughter, I witnessed one of this pubs licencees telling a client that was leaving the bar that his child "should be kept on a leash". I was very shocked and won't be going back.This is probably a bar for locals who are after an economical meal and some fun with their mates.

A local pub like they used to be. Simple good value food, good choice of beer, a simple wine list and all kept in good order. Drop in soon and relax.

Quiet local with three ales on tap. Food (burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, etc) is good value and not too bad. The staff are friendly. Seems to be the place to watch the football and play darts.

Called in as in the area visiting our son and ordered food. The meet and eat sharing platter came and was piping hot and superb quality. The mains came and were also absolutely excellent. Would recommend to anyone in the area. It is tucked away in amongst streets, but well worth searching out.

This pub is tucked away and it's a real aladdins cave.The pub is located in a suburban area..but when you find it..Wow! It's a wonderful suprise to the eyes. Greeted by friendly staff and a charasmatic manager who makes you feel warm and welcomed. It's a place I have returned to time after time. Not only pleasing to the eye..This pub has great ales and lagers and sumptuous food to tickle anyone's taste buds. A must have place to try..Once you've been...you'll keep going back for more.! A credit to the manager and staff who have made it a success. If you had 5☆+ .. you would definitely get it !

This is one of my favourite pubs in Reading. The drinks are reasonably priced, you can go for a full blow out meal or just order some pub snacks to keep you going. The staff are friendly and you can't beat a the TARDIS as part of the pub furniture!
