Called here for lunch with family after our dog walk, great location however the service was not good, had to remind the waitress as she had forgotten the potatoes and the mayonnaise to go with my sons fish cake which did seem to be lacking fish.

The location is beautiful and Henry's bar is fine. However we dined in the restaurant and whilst the food was adequate , small portions. the service was poor. This was mainly due to the lack of staff and the staff available were clearly very stretched with limited experince.

Stopped for the bbq lunch being served outdoors in the pub garden. Our order was taken and at no point were we advised that we would have to wait well over an hour for our order. Several enquiries later about how much longer we would have to wait we received our very mediocre and expensive bbq meal…. a microwaved jacket potato, cold and soggy corn on the cob, shop bought coleslaw and a burger in a bun. A very disappointing and frustrating experience!

Went in for a drink with friends. Wait at the bar was long and slow then I got my pint and it was Foul . So I took it back another 10 min wait, for the bartender to say the Kegs just been changed! He then started to pour another drink and I said I didn’t want that but he tried it and realised it was off. No apologies just what else do you want in an abrupt rude reply. Probably won’t go again this was our second visit 2 years ago we also had a meal not impressed.

My friend and I returned from River walk to Beaulieu back to Bucklers hard and had booked in the Riverview and Henry’s for lunch. We Both ordered Henry’s lager it was superb. Cold and refreshing. For starters we had chicken wings cooked in a tasty sauce coating. We Loved it. For mains the fish in batter was perfect. The batter the first I’ve eaten for years. Light and golden and delicious. The chips were also the BEST I had out since before Lock down!!!! The waitress DAISY was excellent looking after us and helping pick our requests. All staff were really well trained and attentive, Again the dog was made welcome with a nice clean bowl of water delivered to her. A memorable visit and we will def go back SOON.

We absolutely loved it. We came here on a whim. So glad we did, can’t wait to come back! Staff were exemplary! So polite, friendly and extremely helpful. They were so accommodating to us trying to manoeuvre with a twin buggy, they actually could not have been more helpful. I was extremely impressed by the roast dinner, it was delicious. All the food was great. I actually can’t fault the place!

Beautiful location, great access to arrive by Yacht as we did. However, this is where the problems start. Service on arrival: Slow Service at table: Slow Ordering was slow, however within our party of 5 all of us missed the side orders on the mains and ended up with just a main each without and side dishes. Albeit our fault, you would have thought someone would have pointed this error out to us so we could have ordered something more with our main. This would have also been a good service point and also increased the value of the sale for the establishment. The starter was Just one scallop and extremely small. I would have expected for the price two possibly three. It was totally delicious and that sort of made up for it in a bitter sweet moment, leaving you wanting more! The main I had was Halibut, this was also delicious but just a 4" sq fillet and at £34 a portion without any side dishes (something we missed) it left one again wanting more, more taste and for quantity. Our wine for the main actually arrive as we were finishing leaving us all a bit despondent. The cheese board was again perfect, small but full of flavour. As a disabled person I rate an establishment on the toilets, and here again we we seriously let down. I've been to this restaurant for lots of years and the last three at least the toilets have been poor at best. However this visit was the lowest of the low, one toilet near the bar and eating area was out of action. having been in it before this was probably the best thing for it! Having had to use it in the past you cannot access it in a wheelchair, I even had to be helped in it before and have the door to the stall open for all to see as being a disabled person the door clears the toilet pan by an inch. not enough to lift ones legs over to be able to shut the door. There is also no disabled access toilet in the whole establishment as far as we know. there is a toilet you possibly fit a chair in but it up a flight of stairs. Now here is an issue, I needed the toilet and had to get my niece to escort me to a toilet up a flight of stairs. On arrival they didn't let me down, they were disgustingly filthy with years of ground in dirt and looking like they had been neglected for some time. I remember using this toilet 9 months ago and it had not changed. In summary. Delicious tasty food that is very over priced. Slow and often poor communication from the staff. Toilets are horrendous, with poor if not no access for disabled people.

I always try to give positive feedback that helps people make informed choices. The restaurant is what I would consider high end or at least that's what it is trying to be. The hotel is doing all it can to conform to safety guidelines. Shorter menu but very good choices; vegetarian dishes, good soup, lovely chicken pie, delightful desserts and all the basics such as chips, veg, competently done. Only 2 staff on at lunchtime - another person would have been ideal as there were longer gaps between courses than was ideal. Good value.

Chose this hotel to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary - inspired decision because it supplied everything we had dreamt of. Sorry Bali, Seychelles and Venice - you now have to share top billing. The location is dreamy, our room was extremely comfortable and I wanted to pack the shower into our suitcase at the end of our stay. The staff throughout were highly professional but also approachable. Gorgeous breakfasts. The dinners fitted the category where they were so good you wanted the final mouthful to be the first so you could go through it all over again. We just can't wait to visit again.

Taking into consideration all the issues around Covid19, the food was only ok and the service disappointing! In the past we have enjoyed the Hotel and the restaurant food.Tonight though:-service was erratic-our pre dinner drinks were rushed, -no wine menu was offered, -one meal was cold, -the Hake dish very small, -no one asked if our meals were ok-there was no time given between the dinner plates being cleared from the table and being expected to choose our desserts! To what avail, there was no second sitting after us!All in all, glad that we have not booked dinner for the next two evenings!

We gave this place another chance and I know times are difficult but even so we were disappointed again. It was difficult to find where to actually enter the grounds but eventually worked it out and despite the notice on the gate saying it was fully booked we were actually the only people sitting inside. There were about 3 other tables outside so it was quiet to say the least. A limited menu as in most places now and whilst staff were pleasant, they were obviously bored and just standing around chatting. We both had fish & chips which I suspect was perhaps not made on site as both were uniformly rectangular. Pleasant enough, but not generous, same for the chips and peas. We both wanted dessert but again very little choice and we both went for the strawberries and cream. These were very cold, fairly tasteless but plentiful as was the cream. Coffee was a disappointment - suspect filter and not as hot as it could have been. So not sure we will chance it again although the view was lovely.

On our way to the ferry terminal for Isle of Wight, we found out all the ferries were cancelled due to severe weather… We were hungry for some food, so we instead headed over to Riverview Restaurant inside The Master Builder’s. The Master Builder’s is more of a hotel than a restaurant, with a gorgeous view of the water. It is located right by the Beaulieu River. Even on a rainy and windy day, it was still very picturesque. Once we stepped inside, it felt as if we walked into some kind of historic building. And, rightfully so, as this is a historic hotel. They had a continental buffet set up in the main dining area. They had cereals, granola, baked goods, cheese and charcuterie platters, juice, yogurt, etc. Pretty nice selection. And what’s better than looking at these selections? Being able have them without any added cost to your breakfast order of your choice! What! Their menu is plenty, but with simple pricing method. You either get the continental breakfast buffet with tea, coffee, and toast for one price, or add Full Cooked Breakfast to it with just a big more. As for “full cooked breakfast,” we went with The Master Builder’s Full English breakfast. It comes with Sausage, Smoked Bacon, Grilled Tomato, Mushroom, Black Pudding, Fried Bread and choice of Fried, Scrambled or Poached free range egg. I went with poached egg. One change we’ve made to our order was, exchanging Black Pudding with White Pudding. They were all very tasty, only thing was that the poached egg was a bit over-cooked... Other than that, it was really nice! Portion was great too. We had a really nice brunch here with lovely company, the service was polite and although bit slow, we were well taken care of. It was very relaxing and serene.

My wife and I dined on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was less than half full with three members of staff taking orders, serving food etc..We ordered a bottle of wine that duly arrived and then the waitress came to take our order. We asked if it was possible to have a plate of Samphire with butter instead of a starter from the menu as there was Samphire in some of the other dishes. After checking with the chef the waitress advised that this could be accommodated so we placed our order for the Samphire plus Hake for the main course. After around 25 minutes the main course turned up. We pointed out that we hadn't had our starter yet so it was taken away. The excuse given was that the starter hadn't been entered into the computer correctly.10 minutes later the Samphire was delivered followed a couple of minutes later by the waiter asking if we would like our main course now to which the answer was "no" as we hadn't finished the starter.10 minutes later the, by now well travelled main course arrived again. The waitress warned us that the bowls were very hot which was indeed true. The same could not be said of the bowls contents which were tepid. The main course was then off on its travels again to eventually be replaced by a re-cooked order. We were offered a glass of wine each as compensation for the order mix up so asked if we could have a glass of the white wine we had been drinking which, given the length of time it had taken for the food to arrive had been finished. On checking the waitress advised that this wasn't possible but said that she wouldn't charge for the bottle we had had.Passing on desert we ordered a cheese board to share along with a glass of red wine. The cheese arrived but the wine didn't until requested again. So rather than cheese with wine it was cheese followed by wine.We then ordered the bill which did arrive promptly. I am not a great bill checker but my wife is. A number of drinks had been added to our bill which certainly hadn't been consumed by us. The comment from the waitress was that customers at the bar that are later dining in the restaurant charge their drinks to the table or in this case not their table but ours! She then went on to say that everybody is human and mistakes are made. I commented that the next time she goes on an aeroplane I hope the pilot doesn't have the same casual attitude. So to sum up. Due to the poor service the main course had to be cooked twice. A bottle of wine was thrown in for nothing and drinks ordered by somebody else weren't paid for. Not a recipe for a relaxed evening for the diners or the financial well being of the restaurant.

Don’t go here if you are in a hurry. The restaurant was almost empty but with a multitude of service staff.Despite this, getting any service was like a marathon. The food is tasty but small portions and over priced. It took ages to see somebody to give them our order, then they forgot to ‘put it on the computer’. Then it took ages to arrive, but only 5 mins to eat. There were side plates on the table but no bread. We asked for bread that arrived after the meal was already finished. It arrived on even more plates??? Then we had to ask for butter! Then we had to wait to order dessert which when eventually ordered, took 25 mins to arrive.A two and a half hour visit with about ten minutes of eating. The only quick thing they did was to arrive with the overpriced bill.

I have now dined there on 4 occasions . Having read reviews from others I can understand that some of the younger staff need some training. However the key issue to a restaurant is the quality of food that comes out the kitchen. I can only say this is of high quality, using fresh and local produce . The chef has tried hard to bring quality to the menu and in turn the taste and appearance of each dish offers interest and satisfaction. One could debate if French or Italian styles dominate but the result is very good; much higher than the one rosette currently held. Just to comment on the chefs scallop dish , it is truly superb and I have not had better in Michelin Star establishments. The venue ( restaurant ) has a weak character for a visual perspective ( not rustic , not nautical ) table placement is not always logical.I agree with comments of the General Manager in other reviews ; if something was not quite right, then mention it to the staff and they will put it right for you ; that has been my experience.Yes it might be a little pricy for a 1 Rosette restaurant , but if they can produce high quality dishes then the price is bearable. For any travellers going there , please book and do not confuse the restaurant with the pub they are not the same .

Sadly food was not up to the standard I would expect from a first class hotel. Limited choice of options - prefered stater not available, Chose asparragus with poached egg. Just 3 things - asparragus, poached egg and holadaise sause. Asparagus was hard and fibreous, poached egg with hard yolk, and "liquid" white, sauce had the consistency of warm milk!Only one meat main course, grilled chicken, Arrived with nice presentation (but took a while) but was dry. I was taken there for my birthday and I am so disappointed for my family when the service was so appalling that I had to raise issues twice as firstly one of the starters was forgotten and came when the rest of the party had more or less finished and then we had a further lengthy wait for the main courses. A further complaint brought more staff who simply started clearing the table including the cutlery for the next course so that when the mains eventually did arrive only 2 of us actually had cutlery which necessitated another wait while this was rectified. No apology was made by anyone although a deduction was made to the final bill. Even when leaving the restaurant we were not offered an apology. Dreadful customer care.

I have never given feedback at the table on check back before but was compelled to do so this evening. The food was bland and below par. The service wasn't much better. We were given 10% discount and I refused to tip. First time ever! Pan fried cod wasn't pan fried. Belly pork tough and no crackling. All packed seasoning and clearly not tasted by the 'chef". Others left claiming they had enjoyed the food. Perhaps we should have ordered what they had. Maybe this was an off night but we will not be trying again. I visited on a Monday night whilst staying at the attached hotel. The restaurant was very quiet, however, having consumed my main course I was left looking at my empty plate for over half an hour - yes, half an hour! In the end, I was quite enjoying the game of waiting to see how long it would be before someone cleared my table. Tick tock, tick tock... In the end though, I gave up and left. The head waiter was apologetic, and offered to bring the cheese and biscuits (which I'd been waiting to order) up to my room. I passed on the offer, but in fairness it was brought up to me, on the house. Despite the poor service - the food was good - so don't rule it out. I'm hoping this was a one-off...

Both of these are complimented wonderfully by the views of the yacht club. The menu has changed many times during my time of attending this restaurant, however one thing that remains and never seems to disappoint is the roast beef Sunday dinner. The staff are attentive and always have your best interests at heart. The experience is bettered by the complimentary bread on arrival to your table that comes in variants of white, brown and seeded small loaves. Great service and superb food. Would have eaten anything from the menu, and it's not often that I can say that! The food was absolutely delicious, the wine lovely and the view spectacular as ever. Can't recommend it highly enough ;-)

outstanding quality of breakfast, cooked breakfast was all freshly cooked and pipping hot on a hot plate. The choices from the buffet table in the middle of the restaurant was also very good with plently of juices, fresh bread and pastries along with hams and cheeses. Best breakfast in a long time.

We had been to the Master Builders restaurant previously with good reports but on this occasion our meal was ruined by a very noisy function in the room adjacent to the dining room. We literally had to shout between the four of us to make ourselves heard above the noise and the fact that for both the starters and main course the waiter brought out the wrong meals was probably due to the noise levels also. We didn't complain about the noise but when a member of the celebration group asked US to be quiet during their speeches it really made us mad! We then spoke to the manager but she didn't offer us any concession for our (expensive) bill! If you go here then make sure nothing else is being held in the same room- this used to be a good dining restaurant but now maybe their priority is with mass catering. VERY DISAPPOINTING and it was not a cheap night!

Delightful setting and great pub, we only had bar meals, which is integrated into the hotel. The food was very good, if slightly pricey, and the service very good. a pleasant all round experience and worth going back for that setting alone.

Went there for dinner. Lovely place with beautiful aspect. Attentive staff. But the curse of "fine dining". Nice food but tiny overpriced portions. Not for the hungry or even just peckish.

Of course a good location on the river but a 2 course Sunday lunch for under £20? That surprised us.

This gem is set nicely on the banks of the River Beaulieu. While working nearby my partner and I went here for lunch. The food is good but was very dairy heavy, so not good if you have an intolerance. Surroundings are nice and the space between courses was well timed. Very well priced for the food and ambience. There is also a separate bar area and a lovely gardens that runs down to the river bank.

60th birthday celebration with family. Know hotel as stayed there on previous occasions and married there 2 years ago. We were on a time limit as had a boat on hire for day. Food very good and lady waitress excellent but overall service dreadful. Staff really not interested, painfully slow and protest on time handled very poorly culminating in birthday member being forgotten for sweet at end. Frankly would have expected far more attention but obvious party of 12 Sunday lunchtime not really wanted

Lovely Sunday lunch with family in the riverside restaurant, not an expansive menu, but more than enough choice for around £25 for three courses. On a sunny day you may want to book an outside table and there is an option of street food/BBQ on the lawn if you don't fancy the formality of the restaurant.

Lunch, sunny day, plenty of time. We decided on a change from the pub lunch scene. And had this excellent room on the river all to ourselves. Our waiter (from Spain) was a real gentleman, and the food he served delicious. Had our wine by the glass, including port to go with the cheese (copious, so hint: one serving is plenty between two people).

We booked this restaurant for Valentines as we were staying locally for a mini break. We looked this up on the internet after reading some good reviews. The Valentines Tasting Menu online looked fantastic and it looked like a good price reflecting the dishes that were advertised as £40 per person.

The Riverview restaurant managed all of the catering for our wedding weekend at the hotel. Jose, Fernando and David were an excellent team - very friendly but also very hard working and professional, Nothing was too much for them. We did not eat dinner at the restaurant but had an excellent breakfast. However the catering for the wedding was first class. Many thanks to Jose and team.

A fabulous restaurant in a fabulous setting. We stopped at the pub for a drink. We had a look at the restaurant and decided that we would see if they had table available. We had some time to kill so we strolled along the Riverside walk, I must add it was lovely. We then returned to the restaurant for our lunch, I must admit the food was delicious. You get what you pay for. We left for a leisurely drive back to our hotel, having had a really good day. One we will remember for the excellent lunch. If and when we are in the area again, we will certainly eat there again. The pub was also very busy and the food looked very good.

We turned up, without booking on the off chance that they might have a table for 2. Luckily for us, they did. The maitre d couldn't have been more welcoming, along with the rest of the staff. Having never been here before, or reading any of the reviews, I didn't know what to expect. Turns out, it was one of the best Sunday Roasts, I've ever eaten out. The staff were so attentive, without being too in your face. So friendly. The food, was superb, it really was. If I could fault it, my only complaint would be that personally, I would have preferred more vegetables to meat. But that's me. The presentation of the food was gorgeous. The puddings were divine. I highly recommend the lemon tart. Really cannot wait to go back, and we shall book next time, as I would like to arrive early and take advantage of the lounge. So impressed with this place. HIghly recommened. I've read a few reviews saying it's pricey? If you want bargain food, go and eat at a bargain place. We paid £60 for a set menu of dinner and dessert, drinks and finished with coffee. I really don't see that as expensive.

Our party received a warm welcome from the Maitre d' and the log fire burning in the lounge. This was a family occasion to celebrate my son's 40th birthday and there was time for a chat and a glass of prosecco before being escorted to the Admiral's Room for our meal. This is a delightfully spacious room with views over the river and was set aside just for our party. The food was universally delicious and superbly presented. The timing of the courses was well judged for a family with a lot to chat about! The members of the serving team were very attentive and friendly, particularly the Maitre d' who ensured everything was to our liking. It would have been rude of me to ask about the cost but in terms of the quality of the food and the service I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

This was an unusual visit - we would have chosen the Yachtsman's bar for atmosphere, wider menu choice, and lower cost, but we were advised it might be very busy on Christmas Eve and they don't take bookings in the bar restaurant. We checked, and there was indeed a wait, so we stuck with our booking in the Riverview. It was a bit odd as although we were told they were fully booked, we were the only occupied table in there! I think they probably had a large party later on. The food is very creatively presented. I had the cod loin - I don't normally order fish in restaurants as I catch it myself, but I didn't want a heavier Christmas dinner type meal, and given the time of year they had a very limited menu on offer. Any way mine was very stylish and tasty, although the fish was over salty. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. Service was very good if a little formal - old school perhaps! Drinks were hotel rather than bar priced so that pushed up the bill a fair bit, but all in all we had a good time.

Sixteen of us enjoyed an excellent Christmas lunch at the Riverview Restaurant. The food was good, service faultless and the general ambiance lovelly. We visit the Master Builder regularly and have always found it welcoming. For those who do not know it, the hotel and restaurant has a great position overlooking the Beulieu River, there is also a bar that is dog friendly.

This is not the first time that I have eaten at this restaurant. However, Sunday lunch was a real treat. My wife and I had the turkey. The roast potatoes and the Yorkshire puddings were to die for. If you start the meal with the terrine and finish your meal with coffee and the lemon tart, you won't be disappointed. The staff were friendly and remembered our son. Consequently, he felt very important. For that important family celebration this is a restaurant not to be overlooked. We look forward to returning again in the very near future.

I celebrated my birthday last weekend at the Riverview Restaurant. The evening was part of a rhythm and blues night with singer Liam White and his band who were excellent. The whole evening felt very classy. The meal was outstanding. Beautifully cooked scallops to start with and melt in the mouth filet of beef for main course (some of the best I’ve ever tasted) and a delicious baked cheesecake for dessert. We were told that the chef had only been there for 2 weeks. They deserve to go far. The service was exceptional and the restaurant had a nice, friendly vibe about it. Thank you to all – we had a great evening.

We were married last weekend in the Riverview Restaurant surrounded by our family and closest friends. The entire weekend was fantastic and the standard of care second to none. From the pre-wedding planning with Hannah, to the support and attention to detail throughout the ceremony and reception that was provided by Jose. The food and the service were impeccable and the setting beautiful. This really was the best day of our lives and we would strongly recommend it to anyone looking for a Hampshire Wedding Venue. Jose and all the Riverview staff took very good care of us and ensured everything went according to plan with no stress on our part. We stayed on the night after our wedding and were equally impressed by the food and atmosphere for a more intimate meal on a Sunday evening. Nothing was too much bother, although we still do not know how they make the cucumber caviar!!! Highly recommend for meals or functions. We will be back again and again.....

The location is beautiful overlooking the Beaulieu river. The inside has been decorated in a maritime style and is comfortable. Initial impression was not good - one wine glass was dirty and the water glass was chipped on our table. We ordered starters soup of the day and the smoked salmon - both nice dishes. For mains we had the chicken saltimboca which was a little processed - the fish stew was a little bland - could have done with more seasoning, no garlic flavour - could have done with a few more different shell fish to give it more flavour. The wines by the glass were excellent. The service by the waiting staff was OK. Overall it was a disappointment given the previous reviewers comments. For location hard to beat but the food did not live up to it.

Have not been to this place for about 6.years and it wasn't great then either. We all choose of the festive menu pre oredered. Turned up to be told one of the starters was not available, fair enough ordered something else, however when thw food started coming out what was on the menu was definitely not what was served on the plate in fact it was less but they still had the nerve to charge a supplement for things that where not there. How this place is still running is beyond me. I will not be returning for a meal!

My wife was charged £6 for one round of cheap supermarket bread toasted.Hmm.!! My sausage bap was average at best. We had to endure sitting close to 3 loud/sweary blokes, who were old enough to know better than to swear in front of women. You can rip us off once, you won't get another chance

This was my first visit here and I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the spacious car park. The building is very interesting and the bar steward was able to tell us all about it’s history. The bar is in the entrance hall with little seating available. The Library and Billiard Room are nearby with ample comfy seating, but for those who like to drink at the bar, it is not ideal. The building itself is very interesting. It is from a past era with extensive wood panelling and some very spectacular high ceilings decorated with intricate plaster work. The men’s toilettes were pristine and very well appointed. Sadly, it was very cold in both the bar area and in the dining room. The manager/server sat at a table in the dining room working on his lap top and taking a series of phone calls. Even when we were seated in the dining room he continued his activities at times rather loudly. We had to attract his attention to take our orders. The menu offers a wide range of choices. Our starters were good and enjoyable. My falafel salad was very tasty and looked very attractive on the plate. Our server was friendly and helpful and the food arrived promptly and hot. Our main courses were received with mixed reviews. The fish pie was shallow and with little fish. The chicken dish was rather bland and greasy. The two burger eaters left empty plates and enjoyed the burgers and the fries. We did not stay for desert but did do justice to two bottles of a very tasty Chateau Neuf du Pape. Was the evening value for money? The atmosphere was stark, it being cold and devoid of background music. The service could have been better, but it was a Wednesday night with few customers and only two front of house staff on duty. Some main courses were underwhelming and so overall I did not feel that the evening was good value for money. The location has so much potential to become a really great place to eat but perhaps I’ll try again in a year or so.
