Quite a while since we visited, as we live in Yorkshire but this is our go to place when in the area,we love it,the views, atmosphere, especially when we manage to get a good table near the water. We were there Saturday evening and were lucky to get a good table when somebody vacated it not long after we arrived.I have to say we have never eaten there until now,but we didnt want to give up our table.Husband ordered burger etc said it was really good. I ordered pizza which was one of the best I have ever had,it was the Mozzarella cheese, sundried tomatoes, and basil -gorgeous! Both meals were beautifully cooked and piping hot!The service was prompt, but being so busy some tables needed clearing quicker. My only moan was there was a table full of young males (ob enjoying them selves) right out side the entrance to the pub,ob had a lot to drink, topless acting daft and smell of "green"Other concern was a couple with a dog, which had decided to poop on the imitation turf! and although the lady cleaned it up really well, water etc,was off putting!Hence my own personal dislike of dogs being anywhere near people who are eating, and my thought were that people with dogs should have a separate area.

Visited at midday, welcoming staff, good selection of beer and an extensive menu. Ordered cod a chips and was an excellent choice. No long wait and the food was well presented and piping hot. Plenty oof outside seating along the wharf. This was on a Monday but I suspect that weekends especially would be very different

Visited today for lunch & met by lazy staff members of whom I had to ask to clean a table down before I could sit & order food. Ordered tea & cappuccino from the bar and even had to collect it from the bar ourselves even though at this point bar staff were on their phones & doing little else. During our time there' other tables were left uncleared and unusable. First & last time I will frequent this pub.

Arrived to a quiet pub with dirty plates and glasses left uncollected. Bar staff/reception staff chatting away, served by bar staff, no eye contact, little engagement, aside from the sarcastic response to our request for the menu, ‘they’re over there under the sign labelled menu’. We initially thought this was humour but she had little interest in entertaining us. With hindsight I can’t believe we stayed. We ordered two pricey salads, chicken & bacon and halloumi, both were said-ingredients on top of a large plate of lettuce and little else. The only thing positive I can say is that the two kitchen staff who brought out the food were friendly, sincere and engaging - they should be front-of-house. We didn’t see them again so we passed on the opportunity to feedback in person as it felt like no-one else cared. We won’t be going back.

Terrible service and customer care, starters advertised but was told they have to come with main course which was extremely poor. The pub was filthy. Very disappointed. Spoke with the manager who was nonplussed and of very scruffy appearance. Expensive for poor quality food, never again will we go back.

Had a lovely meal. From a varied menu we made our choice. Unfortunately the menu was unclear on what kind of vegetable curry, (with a naan bread, I assumed it to be of an Indian kind) it was upon arrival that I find out it was Thai and contained coconut. I have learned to ask in future. This could be made a lot more clear. I can only praise the staff for rectifying the problem with no hassle or judgement. Allowing me to swap my dish to a bean chilli. The meals are definitely filling and worth the money. Chilled out environment, lovely view from the windows and has plenty of outside seating over looking the river. I would definitely recommend. Staff seemed friendly and welcoming.

Decided treat for breakfast even though we stay here in Lechlade. Had vouchers for the Garden Centre but not Sunday. We did stay here 5 or so years ago twice in the process of moving to the area. The breakfast (Full English) was, as before, plentiful fresh and excellent. Just a pity the web site did not tell you another £6 or more for 2 mugs of tea! That said would recommend and come again. So Full English with tea is 25 quid!

This Inn is situated on the River Thames, with plenty of parking (payable via machine or app), outside covered area, open log fire, great atmosphere run by a lovely couple..Gareth the landlord went above & beyond, and supplied us with a parking permit for our four days stay in a local cottage, opposite the Inn. We had Christmas drinks, on Christmas day, and sat in front of the roaring fire with our dog Skye. The locals were friendly ad laughter was in the air! Their are several beautiful apartments surrounding the Inn that you can rent and stay in, all-year round. The town was festive and lit up. We shall definitely return and stay in one of the apartments. A shame this isn't our local to, as we thoroughly enjoyed it here.

Went with my wife’s work colleagues for their Christmas party night. I had never been here before even though we don’t live that far away. It’s a picturesque pub on the banks of the Thames would probably be a lovely spot in the summer time. So back to the review, firstly their Christmas menu was very limited no turkey option unless you want it on a pizza?? Yes you read this correctly turkey pizza no thanks. I had the salmon starter -that was ok,followed by the seasonal burger which had pigs in blankets and cranberry sauce with chunky chips and a small paper pot of coleslaw on the side - it was poor to say the least totally tasteless even the chips had no flavour was beginning to think I had covid couldn’t taste a thing very poor. Dessert was brownie sundae nothing special a bit dry as you reach the bottom of the glass. To round it off the place closes at 10pm just as well because they don’t serve Guinness either. Overall a really disappointing experience sadly

Pleasant and cosy rooms close to the nicely situated Riverside Inn close to the Thames Path and River Thames. Good, reasonably priced food and nice views of the River Thames in decent pub. Breakfast isn't included in any of the room rates which is a slight extra cost but good tasty breakfast and some good options including veggie. Recommend for walking the Thames path excursions, trips or weekends away as very close to Thames Path and Ha'Penny bridge, weather sometimes a factor with path so close to River.

The Riverside is a lovely location but the food was a bit disappointing. It is fine for pub food but you are not paying pub prices. I had the southern fried chicken burger which was fine although could have done with some sauce in the burger. My husband had the special which was roast lamb chop which was very small and nearly all fat. It came with a few potatoes and vegetables but a very small portion for £17. We then had the “cookie dough” sundae which was just chocolate chip ice cream with a small cookie crumbled on top with cream. It again wasn’t quite what we were expecting for the price although perhaps after the mains we shouldn’t have been surprised. Lovely location and pub but the food was disappointing.

This pub would be great if it weren't for the car park.. Unless you carry cash which is becoming more and more uncommon, you have to use either the app or the phone to pay for parking. Good luck with either. I ended up having to pay for parking on an old car they had on the system for me because I couldnt change it and guess what, £100 parking ticket. I stayed for one hour and had one drink and it cost me £100. They also charge you a different rate to that stated on the board if you use the phone which I'm sure is illegal. Until I hear they have installed a modern parking machines or removed the pay and display altogether I wont be returning and will encourage everyone I know to do the same to avoid the scam.

The staff were friendly enough, but I can imagine it would be more of a scrum if it were really busy. I do agree with the landlord regarding the parking charge - so many people take advantage without a thought for others these days. My wife and I returned to Lechlade as part our Cotswolds Tour to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary. We enjoyed an initial walk along the River Thames from Halfpenny Bridge to St Johns Lock and back and then decided to try the Riverside Pub in Lechlade which is owned and managed by Arkells Brewery. It was a Friday night but we were assured that we would have no problem getting a table with their large capacity restaurant space - inside on ground and first floor as well as seating outside overlooking the river. We selected the beef lasagne and scampi and chips which were both served within 30 minutes of ordering and were both delicious. This is a very old riverside pub which has a great atmosphere and vibe attracting people of all age groups. It is a great place to people watch some of the boats and canoes on the river and plenty of inside space if the weather turns. Excellent value food of good quality and would definitely recommend if you are visit Lechlade.

Upon arriving at the pub there is completely in adequate parking of which you have to pay for. Please bare in mind; you are a while off knowing how long your wait for food will be. There is no organisation or traffic direction for customers. It is a free for all to find a table and staff aren't willing to help seat you or organise customers coming in or out. And certainly no staff to great you or say hello. Once we finally found ourselves a table - it is the delights of using a QR code and ordering online. As I appreciate they legally cannot currently take orders at the bar. However if you phone has no battery, or heaven forbid you don't own a phone or one with a camera. Please steer clear as staff will not help you, or offer to take your order at the table. Ordering via the website is pretty straight forward, with easy view of the whole menu. It is only then you get a tiny notification at the bottom of the Web page stating you have a 90min wait for food. (Hoping your parking ticket is long enough in duration)When eventually one of the three meals arrived. It was put down and no offer of cutlery, napkins nor sauces. We had to then ask the manager, where the rest of the food was and if we could have some cutlery. We were told the food would be out "now". However apparently "now" means around 10 or more minuets, whilst over customers food is served.Whilst eating our okay food, staff thourght it perfectly okay whilst at the bar to lower their marks and make snide comments about fellow customers in front of us. Perfectly ironic considering the recruitment poster in the bathroom stating about a smile and passion for the job.Ultimately I would strongly not recommend this pub or their food services even to my nightmare neighbourhood next door.

We had travelled far to visit this pub as we loved the location on the river. We watched table after table be served their food and drink before us and had to complain several times. We received our food after 1 hour and 15 minutes. They may had been short staffed but other tables were served swiftly. The app did not work so we relied on waitress service and watched staff attend other tables around us. The staff were all friendly enough but there was clearly a problem in the kitchen or with management. The manager was not at all bothered when I eventually asked to speak with him. Very poor customer relations on his part!! Such a pity as the location was fabulous and I am sure had it not been so busy our experience would have been different. The food portions were very large but menu was mainly burgers or pizza.

Visited the riverside in lechlade on Saturday 29th may to treat my parents for lunch and was thoroughly disappointed with the food and service. Our meals came out without cutlery or napkins to which we had to chase after waiting for 5 minutes and then not enough were brought out.The ham and chicken was chewy, chips were burnt, burger was swimming in grease and bacon was grey. When I complained to the waitress, she proceeded to say oh sorry and walked off. This price of the meal didn’t reflect the poor quality of the food and service. I understand they were busy but considering the have spent a substantial amount of time closed in the last year, you would think they would appreciate the custom. Would not recommend for anything other than a drink at most.

We visited on a sunny Sunday for lunch. There are plenty of tables in the area right next to the river, available first come first served. (Car park is Pay & Display and was full so had to park a few hundred yards away.) Luckily we got a table right by the Thames, which was really nice. The 'Garden Menu' looked OK, with a reasonable array of mains, plus home made pizzas (they looked good) and a number of different burgers. Staff were friendly enough (some more than others). Drinks - had a very nice pint of ale, but the pimms came with no fruit or anything - no even a slice of lemon or orange. Had quite a long wait for the food, but when it came, what a disappointment! Felafel Burger & chips looked fine for pub grup but was tasteless. Ham egg & chips - ham was too unappealing slabs of ham, nice eggs, but none of the promised peas. Chicken & bacon salad - large enough, leaves a bit dried out, chicken was fine (pre-cooked, clearly) but there was no bacon. And the 'Tarragon& lemon Salmon Fillet, mixed salad, citrus& honey dressing' was dire - totally dried out salmon, paltry dried out side salad. We took it back and - to give them their due - they didn't argue and gave us a refund as we didn't want to wait 30 mins for something else. They did bring peas, and some cold salty bacon strips, but overall the impression we had was of a place that doesn't need to try very hard with its food because it has a great location. Go there for the view, a seat near the river and maybe the beer and pizza, but not for the rest of the menu!

DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!! Seems to be arkells enjoy hiring terrible managers... I have been here many times and the service is terrible, the new manager who took over the place is rude, inconsiderate and should not be working with young staff. This is purely because I have heard the way he talks to them and it upset me so much I had to go home. The young lady behind the bar was saying to him that she had to go home and she finished an hour ago. He then proceeded to say ‘go home then you’re useless anyway. You’re better off at home’ etc... this is disgusting. I would say the girl is no older than 17/18 and he is a very much older man. The young girl was crying in his face and he didn’t batter an eye lid. I am so disappointed a lovely pub is being ruined by people like this. I will not be returning as I do not want my money going into that mans pocket. I hope the staff find somewhere to work where they are appreciated.

So a week after the Government allowed pubs to reopen outdoor spaces, my daughters and I enjoyed a Thames-side walk from Lechlade returning to the Riverside for a cold, refreshing beverage... Arkells beer is never a beer of choice, but surprisingly the Riverside has beers not available in Fairford - namely Mustang & Voyager. The latter made with American hops is a tasty brew, which I ordered a second pint for reassurance...Unfortunately, the Riverside’s ordering app doesn’t offer 1/2 pints of beer. However, what it does offer are pints of Coke/Diet Coke, from syrup fed gun, at 10p more per pint! After lockdown we are all more away of what drinks cost. But when Tesco is selling 10 can packs at £3.99 & 24 can packs at £7 (Clubcard price), at £3.80 for a pint of probably 20p product is completely taking the urine out of customers. The answer could be, if you don’t like it, walk on by. By why rip customers off in such a manner??? Disappointing.

Not The Riverside I remember, food quality poor , over priced and full of foul mouthed drunks. Many seemed underaged. In the last 15 years we have always enjoyed the good food and service at The Riverside. It was always a premium price, but that was acceptable with the view, good food and service.Today we visited again, 1st pub since lock down and no need to book.Spent £100+ on meal for 3 + drinks and a hot chocolate that took 30mins and 3 reminders to be served.Landlord refunded drink, but was not bothered or apologetic.Watched staff popping off to car park to snog boyfriends and interact unprofessionally with the clients they knew.Underage drinkers everywhere , no ID checks seen. Customers caught with own cans or drink were not even kicked out when caught by staff.Customers in boat doing donuts on the Thames.Paid £14.50 for a seafood basket of Iceland’s finest. Now I understand why there was no need to book! This pub needs effective front of house management, standards and 2 couple of bouncers to control the punters.Maybe when the other pubs re-open in Lechlade things will change and the clientele will move on.We have moved on and will book the Red Lion in Castle Eaton next time we want to visit riverside pub.

Before I write about our experience, I would like to say the manager did take one main course off the bill.We decided to spend our day off work doing a spot of Christmas food shopping around Lechlade. We couldn’t decide where to eat, so opted for a pub out of town. Then my partner went onto Google maps and came across The Riverside. We had to pay to park at the pub and the manager was standing outside the entrance. We went into an empty pub and he brought us a tatty paper menu. My partner asked what ales he had on and the manager said only one - their Christmas ale. We both chose whitebait to start and scampi and Riverside burger for mains. He brought my small white wine over and immediately I was doubting whether we should’ve gone elsewhere. The wine wasn’t pleasant at all. I went to the ladies (quick visit- it was midday and there was loo roll on the floor of loo and uncleaned loo seats, I can only assume from the night before) and on my return I was surprised to find the whitebait waiting. It wasn’t like any whitebait I’d had before. I’d compare it to the size of a sprat. I think it may have been from a frozen packet. It was very ‘fishy’ (in fact it was still repeating on me later in the evening). I left mine, my partner ate most of his. The manager asked if the starter was ok and I explained that it wasn’t very nice at all, not like any whitebait I’d had before. I said he was sorry. Our mains arrived quickly. My scampi was fine, peas cold and chips tasted reheated. My partner couldn’t eat his burger. It was small compared to the bun. The bun was stale and burger over cooked and cheap tasting. He left his and as a result couldn’t finish his ale, very unlike him, due to not enjoying his meal and wanting to leave. I spoke to the manager and he removed the scampi from our bill. We still paid £28 for a very unpleasant experience. We will not be returning.

Were asked to use track and trace app but then when we asked to sit outside (as we are not in the same family / bubble) we were told ‘well it’s your choice’. Were told they didn’t understand why we couldn’t sit together inside (they are currently in tier 2). The one way system was useless as the ‘in’ door was locked. No attempt has been made to made any weatherproof outside space (unlike other local pubs).Lunch menu was varied but had no sandwich options. There was a £6.50 light bites section. I had a halloumi burger (normal menu option). Burger bun was dry and tasteless, halloumi warm just warm but not melted or soft enough. Soft drinks were expensive. As a beautiful riverside pub / location so much more could be done at very little cost to entice more custom. I don’t think it was a surprise that it was virtually empty inside and out.

Stopped here for lunch. Welcome was very friendly and COVID measures good. The food though was rather disappointing. Ordered the “chefs pie”, and expected something that was at least home made. What arrived was a “pukka pie” or similar. My wife ordered salmon - it was OK but overcooked. So overall, OK, but nothing to write home about.

Absolutely disgusting!! My wife and I arrived at 14.20pm and I asked if they were still serving and could we have a table, yes was the answer on both accounts, the waitress took us to a table and gave us the menu......Then after 20 mins I asked if we could order as nobody had approached us even for a drinks order! The waitress then said yes and went for her pad......she then returned and said the kitchen closed at 14.30 because the chef had to go to school!!! I said we had been there for 20 mins, she said well shes closed the kitchen so no food!!!!!!!My wife and I have been in the catering industry for over 30 years and have never treated any customer of ours like that. They dont deserve custom!!

A really nice setting and well appointed but we didn't appreciate having to pay to park in their car park.Covid precautions were in place and these seemed absolutely fine. We ordered drinks and fancied a light snack so also ordered chips and garlic bread. The staff were at all times very pleasant. However, after around a 40 minute wait we had to ask if our food order had been forgotten . . . . . . we realise that due to Covid and short staffing that many things are different but weren't told when we ordered that there would be a long wait, especially for a snack. When the food arrives we found the garlic bread ok but the chips were well overdone, cooked far too well than we would expect anywhere.Having waited so long already we couldn't be bothered to complain and to ask for the food to be re-ordered could mean another long wait.

Booked a table for 730. Arrived at 740 (they took my number at time of booking, so could have called to check if I wasn’t coming or if there was just traffic). The first thing we were told was ‘we’ve shut the kitchen, but we’ll reopen it for you if you order quickly’... whilst waiting at the front of the restaurant. Sweet and sour - sweet that they were going to reopen the kitchen. Sour that we’d need to order NOW! Before we sat down, we were asked what drinks we wanted. On paper it sounds like a reasonable thing for waiting staff to ask. But straight after being told ‘we need your order straight away’, it didn’t sit well. Very rushed and unwelcoming. We sit down. Feeling as though we were a huge inconvenience. We take a look at the menu and if you didn’t want a burger or other reduced menu items that didn’t inspire an appetite, you were out of luck. Called The New Inn around the corner - they had a table and were very accommodating with fantastic food. Even at such short notice. Standards have slipped here over the last few years. Good luck with trying to improve the standard of service. I hope you eventually do. Shame to have such a lovely spot reinforced with such below par service.

We arrived at the pub yesterday to find out the opening hours had changed from 11 to 12. That’s fine but when they did finally open after an hour of waiting in the rain the staff didn’t have a clue what they were doing. After the shambles of getting through the door with the track and trace our table was disgusting. There was still food on there from yesterday. We asked the waitress to clean it which she did but was very put out that we had even asked her. Then to order food we were first told to go to the bar to then be told that this was not allowed and it had to be the app. Obviously a lack of communication between staff. The food was awful. Our orders came out at different times with a 30 minute gap leaving half the table finished by the time the rest of food came out. While the whole time we could see the waitressing staff dancing in the kitchen as if they are on Xfactor. The cheesy chips would not even feed a child. The fish was greasy and undercooked on the middle. The peas were hard and the chips tasted frozen. The sausages and chips were very basic I could have made better at home. And the burger ..... considering it apparently took 30 minutes to melt the cheese it was very basic. The high chairs did not have safety straps and neither does the baby changer. Both very unsafe for young children. I approached the staff to be given the oh well attitude. Over all a very poor experience and will avoid in future.

After months of not socialising and avoiding pubs, my friends and I visited the Riverside for dinner. Initially we felt welcomed, though things started going wrong quite quickly. Ordering via a smart phone app was simple enough, but descriptions of food were minimal, and gave no allergy information at all. When our food arrived no cuttlery was brought to us, and we watied the best part of 5 minutes before we could find someone to bring it. The food was good, but the manager wanted to clear our plates away quite hastily and returned several times to do so. At 9 pm we wanted to order some more drinks, but were told by the manager that the bar was closed, no last orders had been called. The doors were then closed and the lights literally turned off as we sat at our table finishing our drinks. For a Friday night, this was pretty poor...beware going in the evening, and avoid the manager - we won't be returning any time soon.

Visited for lunch on 3rd August. Manager was keen to stop the delightful young lady at the meet and greet desk from encouraging us to use the bar to order and stated that the Eat Out to Help Out was on the app. So, ordered using the app, having been led to believe by all of the advertisements that the customer has to do nothing and that the discount was automatically applied to the final bill. The food came, it was mediocre at best. My fish was soggy and the chips were dry and tasteless. I was surprised to see when checking my account that no discount had been applied. I emailed asking for this to be checked and got a curt response saying there was a button on the app I should have pressed. Won't be revisiting. Zero stars from me, but I've been forced to give it at least 1 star!!!

I visited The Riverside today with my parents just for a drink, and was SO impressed with the systems in place to protect staff and customers from Covid-19. A well managed quick queue on arrival to be seated, followed by a thorough explanation from a very helpful young lady. She showed us the QR code to be scanned to enter our details for Test & Trace, and the second one for the menu and ordering. She found us a great outside table in the shade (which we requested as we had my 4 month old with us) with views over the beautiful river. The ordering system is fantastic...so easy to do on a phone with just a few clicks and within minutes our drinks were delivered to the table by a friendly chap. On a brief visit to the loo I noted markings on the floor to ensure sufficient distancing and clear signs to encourage only one person in the toilets at any one time. The best thing was that it still felt totally relaxed and like a normal pub! On a very busy sunny Sunday it was super slick, and completely controlled. Well done Riverside team! A lot of establishments could really learn from you. Will be back!

The floor was covered in what looked like several weeks’ worth of dirt and fluff balls. You don’t get fluff balls if you at least sweep the floorEverywhere you looked there were layers of dust. As for the food, it was tasteless and served on enamel plates with several bits of enamel chipped off. That is NOT acceptable. The toilets were barely ok. Stayed in a different pub down the road but we much preferred the atmosphere at this one.
