We used to live in Weaverham and often walked to the Riverside for a drink or food. They used to do 2 main courses for £10 which was good values for money. I know those days are now gone but after our recent visit I don’t think we will be returning. We booked a table for Sunday lunch for 4 people. We ordered drinks which came promptly and then ordered our food. We only ordered 4 mains, fish and chips, sea bass and 2 x steak and ale pies. We waited over an hour for our food, others who arrived after us received their food so we asked how long ours was going to take and were told they were just plating up. 10 minutes later we finally received our food. The fish and chips did look lovely and was a healthy portion size, the pies were well filled but mash potato was a bit on the small side. The main issue was the sea bass. There were 2 small fillets with a few crushed potatoes underneath, a spoonful of frozen peas, 2 green beans and 5 mange tout. Now for £17.95 I expected more. I’m not a big eater or a quick eater but I finished my meal first, and I knew I wouldn’t be full for long. How much do vegetables cost? Surely some carrots and tender stem broccoli wouldn’t break the budget? I did mention this and I was not charged for my alcohol free G&T, but I couldn’t wait to get home and have something to eat, disappointing.

Lovely setting right by the river.. the food in general is quite good and the staff are really good and friendly but why oh who do Marston insist on penny pinching.. meat on the Sunday carvery was as issue.. tiny bit of beef that was all fat and gristle.. I told the server (young lad) that meat was too tough to cut so he came back with a serrated knife.. lol... There is also the ongoing custard issue with puddings.. was told the half a tiny jug is all they are allowed to put in and to get another half a tiny jug we had to pay £1 each.. really need to sort this out.. otherwise people will feel ripped off.. its all about customer service after all

I was absolutely disgusted with my most recent visit to the pub. We came in to no staff anywhere. Stood waiting for someone to show us to a table for the best part of 5 minutes, the woman who seated us huffed at us as if we were an inconvenience being there. Two people clearly drunk at the bar (customers) on a Monday lunchtime. Other than that only one other table with approx 5 young males eating. We were seated. The entire meal staff were screaming and shouting sharing videos and pictures on their phones to each other, having a great laugh between themselves. Discussing which of the male customers they would have sex with and which were too young for them to sleep with. We were absolutely disgusted! We will not be returning again and will be informing family and friends to not bother anymore. We travel 45 minutes to get there on our visits but wouldn’t waste the petrol again. The atmosphere was horrific and the food standards were so poor. It was full of fat and no taste! Not even worth one star!

We come here regularly as a family of 4, usually once a month. However the last 2 times we have been, including yesterday, it took a good 20 mins for someone to come over and take our order once we had been seated. My partner had to go over and ask someone. The last 2 times we have been, we keep getting seated towards the back of the pub, which seems out of the way for most of the waitresses, so are probably getting forgotten about. That being said, the food is always fairly quick to come out and always delicious. Will just need to make sure we request to be sat in the main serving area next time to ensure we are served promptly.

The carvery at the Riverside Inn is fantastic. The meats are tender, the potatoes are fluffy and the vegetables aren't boiled to death. The childrens menu is great too with lots of options. All staff we encountered were very friendly and professional. It's also dog friendly! Definitely coming back. Thanks all.

We arrived to be seated quickly, in a lovely airy and light table towards the back if the pub. A polite young lady came to ask if we were ready for drinks, we ordered a pint of Amstel, a pint of Hel’s and a bottle of Chenin blanc. The drinks arrived promptly, they were cool and refreshing, we were asked if we were ready to order, we weren’t quite ready, so we’re left in peace. Our waiter came to take our order, very polite, enquiring and observed meticulous detail with regards to side orders, what we wished to have as alternatives to the published menus. He advised and sorted, repeating our choices to ensure what he had captured was accurate. Our food arrived quickly, it was served with a smile and checking that everything was as we had asked. He asked if we’d needed anything else and left us in peace-although had we had the need to request anything he was ready and available. The pie was fabulous, tender pieces of steak, lovely gravy and thoroughly enjoyed, I had the lasagne, which was moist with sauce and tender meat and pasta. The waiter was attentive, checked if the food was okay, asked if we needed further drinks and ensured any sauces were available. When finished our plates were collected, the wait we checked we had enjoyed our meals, and would we like further drinks or a dessert. We were t sure about a dessert because we were full, however said we would check out the menu. This was brought promptly and with a smile, with some recommendations should we be tempted. Unfortunately we were tempted but unable to for in a pudding! The waiter took this in good spirit and took away the menu stating he was pleased we had enjoyed our meal. I was the.n tempted by a cocktail, and had a raspberry mojito….WOW! What a drink, …… I don’t like a mojito tbh, HOWEVER , this was something else, vibrant fruity cold and …gorgeous 😀 Overall thank you for my tea and drinks…what more could I ask for?. Nothing, loved it! Will be back x thank you

We used to really enjoy coming here, even though the service has never been great (it takes a long time for servers to take orders) the food was lovely and the surroundings too. We came in last night to find they have hiked the prices up to ridiculous amounts so the buy one get one free isn’t worth it anymore, you’re not getting a good deal, we had booked in for 4:30 and wasn’t seated till 4:45, it took 10 minutes before a server came to take our drinks order, the drinks are no longer refillable, £3.55 for a glass of pop is ridiculous,it then took a further 20 minutes to take our food order, it states £4.50 for a kids meal on the menu, they charged £4.75, it then took 30 minutes for the food to come, 2 of us ordered the steak and ale pie, the menu stated chunks of steak in a shortcrust and puff pastry pie, we were served a boring pie with small pieces of meat with gravy in a shortcrust pie (like a hollands frozen pie, I can get 4 of these for about £2.50 in the shop, refer to picture) and was charged £15.95! I was told they had different ones but the menus hadn’t been updated, not really the point when you choose something because of the description and that’s not what you’re given. We left extremely disappointed and will not be going back again!

Decent pub grub, if you are looking for fine dining I would suggest you try elsewhere. But if you just want a decent pub meal at a reasonable price, then the Riverside Inn is worth a visit. Food here used to be good. We visited tonight and it was Awful. Lasagne clearly microwaved within an inch of its life, no idea what the white sauce in it was made of but it was lumpy. Stodgy and resembled gone off cheese. Salad with it was just dry lettuce leaves. Rock hard garlic bread. Nachos with chilli beef came out 1st time burnt. 2nd time with a minute amount of chilli on top which tasted like Gravy. Front of house staff, mostly young students, all really good but the Chef situation clearly needs looking into. We Wont be coming back. Nor will we be reccomending this place to anybody. If leaving 0 stars were an option, there wouldnt be one left here.

We visited last Sunday for lunch with the family. There were 7 of us dining and we had a wheelchair. We had a great table by the river. Most of us ate from the carvery. They timed service of the non carvery meals perfectly so we all ate together. The carvery was excellent. The ham and turkey in particular were exceptional. Vegetables and Yorkshire’s also very good. Staff were lovely. My only criticism would be that played were a little small. I would gladly have paid for a larger plate. Food very hot and very good. Desserts were very enjoyable too. Allergy boy here. We had spent all day at Oulton park race track, we wanted something to eat, and were disappointed with our previous nights food. We had seen this pub, heaving on many occasions & decided today was the day!We were greeted with a big smile & apology that it was going to be over 1 hours wait. We grabbed a pint & settled into a warm welcoming pub with great well kept beers, served in immaculately clean glasses. Well within an hour we were taken to our table, overlooking the river. I explained that I was allergy boy & was given a comprehensive allergy list, which gave me so many options, the night before was either or!! I chose the steak & ale pie, Gill had homemade lasagne and our guests had a chicken corma & rice and a hunters chicken & chips plus some drinks for £31.The food was hot, tasty and well presented. The staff are friendly attentive & very polite, even after a manic bank holiday Sunday. We could have also had 2 steaks & a bottle of wine for £20, tables neat us had this, the steaks were big & the customers loved them. If you want a great meal that won't break the bank this is the place for you. You won't be disappointed but you might have to wait.

We visit the Riverside regularly, however on this occasion we had our little grandson with us. We were greeted in the first instance by Chis (Aussie Chris), & then by a “greeter”, unfortunately I don’t know her name. Anyway, we were seated quickly & Chris swiftly came to take our drinks order. We ordered quickly as our little guest was hungry. Our grandsons meal was good, our steaks were cooked to our liking. This evening the service was very good. We ate earlier than we usually do & I think we benefited with better service. I appreciate The Riverside is a very busy place, but sometimes the service can be very slow. Went with my partner for a meal at the Riverside tonight. We ordered two specials which came with a free starter or desert. My prawn cocktail was tasteless, no colour or flavour to the prawns. My main was lamb hotpot pie. Described on the menu as succulent pieces of lamb slow cooked in a rosemary gravy. It was a cheap frozen pie, grey in colour and nothing but gristle and minced lamb. It tasted disgusting. I returned my meal and had scampi instead. When the bill came they charged for my starter as the scampi wasn't on the specials. I also had a Bacardi and coke. It wasn't the real Bacardi but cheap white rum and they charge twice for the mixer. Apparently the measure of the mixer is small so they give you 2 measures wether you want them or not. I suppose it dilutes the taste of the cheap Bacardi. When we questioned the bill they did eventually knock £3 off for the complaint about the food. We'd even had to order a second drink which we didn't want while we waited for the second meal to arrive. All in all a disgusting meal, bad service and would not recommend or return to this place. Worst meal I've ever had

Very poor. We had 2 sandwiches, both of which were very dry and had a minimal amount of filling in. The waitress who took our order had a very abrupt manner and although the pub was busy, the only noise we could hear whilst eating our snack lunch were the waitress's talking loudly to each other and the bar staff, only occasionally interrupted by the manager walking backwards and forwards past our table with a cup of coffee in one hand and talking loudly on his phone. We will not be returning!!

Fuimos a comer.

I've eaten here on numerous occasions when visiting family in the area as they seem to love it. I can't personally see the great attraction. Whilst the food is perfectly adequate most of the time it isn't anything special and is usually only redeemed by the decent enough service and value for money (it's a two for one place)Visited on May bank holiday Monday and ordered a steak dish - as it happens this was the same dish i'd had last time i'd visited and I'd enjoyed it. This time service was very slow. I ordered a rare steak and when it arrived the waitress announced it as medium and I said no I asked for rare and she said oh yeah that's what it is. When I cut into it it was medium to well done. I asked the waitress to change it and she did but was very surly and really seemed to be pissed off I wasn't happy. When it was brought back it was rare but the portion had clearly been cobbled together from various off cuts of meat, my mum's dish was exactly the same. When it was brought out the service was really rude and dismissive. I raised this with what appeared to be the waitress in charge of our area and she said you sent it back because you didn't like it and we brought you another one. No. I sent it back because you didn't cook it the way I asked for it to be cooked - rare. This does not make me an annoying customer trying to cause trouble but that is exactly what I was made to feel like. This pub has a wide array of steak dishes on the menu and specials board. I therefore assumed they would be able to cook a steak properly (otherwise why bother asking the customer how they want it cooked?!)It was clear they were very busy as it was bank holiday and I can only assume they had the 'B' team on as most of the staff seemed fairly clueless. As we were leaving I asked for the name of the manager so I could write to them with my complaint about the food and service. After approx 4-6 minutes faffing about by the bar staff (during which time I saw the barmaid I'd asked, go and speak to what looked like the manager on duty) the barmaid came back to me with the pub website address. I said no that's not what I asked for, can I have the name of the manager please. Oh says the barmaid, I didn't understand what you meant. I was fairly taken aback by this. What about the question 'can I have the name of the manager so that I can write to him or her about a complaint I have' is difficult to understand? I found the attitude of the staff on this visit rude, dismissive and surly. The several waitresses we had - after I had asked for the steak to be recooked our initial waitress took great pains to avoid serving us for the rest of our visit but was clearly still working as she was waiting on the next tables - served our food and drink with a healthy dose of teenage stroppiness. Which might have been acceptable had we not been paying customers. I am sure I will have the misfortune of eating here again whilst visiting my family as they seem to like it. I can only hope the 'A' team are on the next time I visit. I certain shan't be making the mistake of ordering steak.

We had to wait a short while for a table as it was a busy Saturday night and, as we were passing through, hadn't booked. Our orders were taken quickly and our food arrived very shortly afterwards. All the staff were cheerful and efficient.Food - delicious, hot and cooked to perfection. The salmon and chicken were particularly good. The steak was good, but very small.Value - all of the meals are 2-4-1 and great value (especially when compared to other pub/diners in the area where it was £7:95 just for a Scotch Egg!)Overall - definitely worth calling in to.

Delicious brunch - the bread they use for their toast just melts in your mouth. Lovely sunny aspect, chilled background music and really great service.

We held a joint 60/80 party here and it was absolutely fantastic. The staff are brilliant and extremely helpful from all correspondence to the night. We had about 30 ppl for a small do and they were brilliant letting us come earlier even though half of our party did end up staying to the late! The food was exceptional the steak ale pie was devine and had our guests talking about it for weeks after! Compliments to the chef! Lovely party area, when decorated with balloons and banners it was a really good atmosphere, the bar were happy to play music on Spotify all night. Really spacious and just a really lovely evening. Great hospitality. Deffo worth considering for a function.

Attended here with friends for an evening meal as part of a group of 11 and the service by Niall was outstanding. We had the evening meal and breakfast package from the premier inn next door and very good value for money!

Called in for a quick pint on my first visit to Macclesfield. Was early, so quiet, with only one local. Looks like they have a varied selection of beers. I opted for a German lager. Nice friendly publican who said he has been there for 40 years. Close to train station.
