The River Wyre in Fylde

What a pre-Christmas disappointment. I am fuming. Despite booking weeks ago, the dog-friendly part of the restaurant was apparently overbooked so we had to sit in the bar area, elsewhere. The manager was reluctant to accept that it was their fault, preferring to suggest that I had made a mistake with my booking had omitted information about bringing a dog, which I had not. She implied that I had made up the dog inclusion, which I had not, as confirmed by the booking confirmation email. She denied calling me a liar, but . . . . . . . . make up your own mind. To make matters worse, we waited one hour before a starter arrived, and nearly a second hour before the main course. The ribeye steak on the menu had been replaced by a sirloin steak (still at the same price, of course) , which proved to be inedible. The steak knife was simply not up to the job. Staff were distant, although the manager told us we had had a waitress at our table "incessantly" - plainly not true. Rarely have I had such an unpleasant experience at a restaurant, and it has ruined what was planned to be a special occasion - it is not often I wear clean socks. So, to summarise, a long wait, inedible food, an inefficient online booking system, staff who like to blame the customers in an accusatory way - I shall not be back.

Had a fabulous table for family meal -great service -staff couldn’t have been more helpful and made our evening such a fab one!

We were served by Kaz who was super helpful and lovely. We had a few allergies on out table and Kaz went through everything very thoroughly and made sure everything was separate. Lovely food and great atmosphere. Lovely birthday meal

Kaz was a brilliant server and the food was delicious, the pork belly and the turkey is delicious and succulent

Just enjoyed a festive Christmas lunch. Food excellent. Service prompt and friendly. Must single out Kaz. A real asset to your pub.She was friendly and very efficient despite the pub being very busy.

Such a lovely welcoming place to eat. Our waitress Kaz was beyond helpful and kind and was wonderful with our children. A thoroughly lovely afternoon spent eating yummy food in a cosy festive environment.

Came for our annual Christmas family meal for the first time here. We had our own little area which was really cozy and meant we could socialise with our family throughout without disturbing the other guests! The food was amazing and the staff servicing us Jemma, Alana & Caitlin were fabulous. We all said we’d be back here next year for our family Christmas meal 🎅🏻🎄

Great meal. Dined as a group of 19 and the service was wonderful, fabulous atmosphere. Kaz or server was very attentive.

Absolutely amazing, really good surface Lizzy and Anne was polite, friendly, and accommodating. It was a really lovely atmosphere and the food well that was awesome. The burger was delicious. It had such amazing flavours. Will definitely be coming again, hopefully real soon we haven’t been for awhile certainly since it was done up and we had a great service, great food and a great atmosphere. Thank you so much!

For an early Sunday evening drop-in the prices are the same as Sunday lunch earlier in the day so you’d expect the same quality, yes? Nothing could be further from the truth as it transpired. Pie of the Day (steak and venison) comprised a tasty filling with a crust that needed a bit of heft to access. Likewise the veggie wellington. The pastry chef needs a talking-to and some CPD. The potatoes and parsnips were burnt: potatoes were over-crispy and impossible to cut in half; the parsnips were charred black and also impossible to cut. The single carrot was ok and the gravy delicious! The starters were fine but the mains such a huge disappointment. There was another couple eating who, like us, were ravenous, so ate their (also inadequate) meals. Why didn’t we say anything? What would have changed? The food would still have been awful (I’m sure that the chef wouldn’t have cooked us meals from scratch at 7pm). We’ve voted with our feet instead. We are local and it has been our go-to in the past. Not any more, I’m afraid.

Kaz was super accommodating and friendly. Great personality and chatting with all customers. The festive menu was a treat to see, food from the chefs was hot and a great selection of festive options on the menu. Thanks again RW for another amazing meal .. Merry Christmas.

My daughter treated me to a takeaway via deliveroo and I chose the haloomi salad, but what I got was a bowl of leaves with a few grains and no haloomi whatsoever ! The River Wyre used to be one of my favourites but not anymore. At £17 it was the most expensive waste of money and I couldn't eat it. Requested a refund but no response whatsoever.

If I could give it zero stars I would 😡 Pizza was sooooo bad, atmosphere was horrendous. Only people in there and was super awkward with staff. All food for everyone was awful. Do not go here. So bad

This was our first visit to River Wyre and Kaz and Paul were brilliant they really made us feel welcome. Lovely warm fire’s on a cold winter day and the Bakewell sponge was amazing. Very dog friendly with water bowls and treats on the way in. Thank you so much Kaz and Paul for looking after us.

Just had my son's 40th birthday meal here. Booked a lovely room for a family dinner for 14 of us. Jemma was amazing. She sorted everything out for us, from taking the booking to making up the room, then looking after us on the day. Really lovely afternoon, thank you ❤🍾❤ xxx

We have eaten here for several birthday celebrations, and have been delighted on every occasion. Kaz has served us on most of our visits and always makes us feel welcome and is the most helpful and friendly person. She made great recommendations and spent time to describe menu items. The food on every course was superb. Our compliments to the chef and the team. The River Wyre is great for both celebration, and quiet intimate meals equally.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. Had to ask twice for 1st jug of water. Asked twice for the second which never arrived. Main courses arrived before starter plates had been cleared. Had to ask 3 times for glass of wine. Ordered side dish of pigs in blankets. This was placed on one of our parties plates. We wanted to share these. The food was ok but nothing special. I won't be visiting again.

Excellent food, let down by the very slow service. Even though the table was booked for 2.00 pm for Sunday lunch and were sat at the table on time, the food wasn't served until 3.30 pm. Which makes the booking process a waste of time. Not impressed.

Today I had the pleasure of providing balloon decor for a client at the River Wyre pub for a baby shower. The staff couldn’t have been any more helpful. The two girls who were on shift immediately asked me if I needed any help with my things (in venues the staff never ask me if I need any help). When I arrived into the room the baby shower was being held they asked me if they needed to move anything for me or help in anyway once again. Just generally really lovely and helpful people. I wasn’t a customer in the pub but they still went above and beyond to assist me which is hard to come in my line of work. To the staff who were working today Thankyou! You made my day 🩷

The food we had - I had the brisket sandwich, my wife the fish finger sandwich - was really good and tasty, but the service was a bit tardy; nearly 20 minutes to get served and it wasn't busy. But the staff were friendly.

Great food. Staff were lovely and friendly. Barking dog in the corner, what you gonna do? It was fine. Food took a little while to come out, but you could tell it'd been freshly cooked and was very tasty. Lovely stuff. Jemma was tops!
