The River View Cafe in Shropshire

Whenever we go into Shrewsbury for the Made in Shropshire Market we always head to this cafe for our breakfast. This time we both had a sausage and bacon bap. Great quality food and the waiting staff are very friendly.

You wouldn't know it was there its so hidden away in the paradise shops. Great terrace for the summer months serving top notch coffee and excellent cakes I would definitely visit again when in Shrewsbury.

Dog friendly, good service and a great view over the river into Eastern Shrewsbury and beyond

The view over the river was wonderful and we shall return in the warmer weather and eat outside. Plenty of choice for breakfast. We chose the full English with the option to add or remove items. The coffee was also very good as was the service. Very friendly

Couldn’t recommend this place enough, spoke with Matthew via email about the afternoon tea and weather something could be done about a gluten free one as our daughter is coeliac, he was really quick to respond and really helpful and made up a separate off the menu, gluten free afternoon tea for her. The food and service were fantastic as usual, this is defiantly our go to place when having lunch in town.

Had afternoon tea for the five of us on this chilly, rainy day, and it was delicious and calm and warm and just lovely. The service was prompt and friendly and the food and tea were so good. Loved the scones and clotted cream and jam! Delicious experience in Shrewsbury!

Twelve of us enjoyed breakfast here. All drinks and food arrived as ordered. Highlights were the French toast and the vegan breakfast. Tea and coffee were OK but the flat white needed an extra shot. Only gripe was the sourdough toast. Breakfast is only served with one small slice and a second slice was charged as an extra portion at £3.25. You don't get a rack of toast like you do at other breakfast places.

This is like the curates egg -good in parts and poor in others! Breakfast is not cheap £9-30 for small meat one and £10-3 for vegetarian. On the good side the ingredients were OK and it was cooked nicely. On the poor side what you got for this price was poor! In the meat one you had a very SMALL egg, a small sausage like you have in 'pigs in blankets',less than half a rasher of bacon, a small slice of black pudding , a spoonful of diced mushrooms and a cup of bake beans plus a slice of nicely buttered toast. Surely at that price they could at least provide a larger egg and sausage. The vegetarian was even poorer for more money-a slice of grilled halloumi, a couple of avocado slices, a spoonful of diced mushrooms,half a raw tomato and a slice of toast! The service was very poor!! With no one obviously waiting for cooked food it took more than 20 minutes to come!! People who came in later got their food first!! The coffee was nice but with the delay for the food it was cold before eating ( what little was saved for afterwards!). If the restaurant had been full I hate to think what the wait would have been. A potentially nice breakfast spoilt by the penny pinching save money at all costs by cutting ingredients. I cannot recommend it. 50p more spent on ingredients would make a big difference!!

This is a great cafe to come to especially when the weather is fine as you have wonderful views across some of Shrewsbury. A nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Gorgeous food and amazing Guinness cake. All homemade 😋 highly recommended 👌

We chanced upon this place more by accident than design and delighted we did so. The ploughman’s lunch was spectacular as was the Mac and cheese with ham hock. Service was friendly and attentive, and we felt absolutely appreciated. Well worth a visit!

A lovely place for lunch with great views over the River Severn and Shrewsbury

A solo lunch experience whilst out shopping, that was filled with delicious food. RV Ploughmans on a board was the perfect choice for a hot day. Well presented and well sourced, tasty food. Given that it was the hottest day of the year, the staff remained friendly and efficient. This is a quiet haven from the busy town centre, thank you RVC staff I enjoyed my visit!

It was raining - and wanted a place for lunch with family - including a 15 month old. Although having lived in Shrewsbury for 35 years - never been to the River View Cafe so gave it a go. Sat outside on the terrace - a great place with super views over the river. Varied menu - the ploughman's was filling with Shropshire blue cheese, chunky bread, sausage rolls and pickles - and a couple of us had the dahl with rice, naan and chutney. Good portions - service slightly on the slow side but it was busy. Would go again.

I’d heard good things about this cafe, and after looking at the website and reading the reviews, was expecting a beautiful, modern cafe. Inside was a bit scruffy with tacky tablecloths, sugar in old dirty jam jars, and a toy box the staff kept tripping over. The food though, should be what’s most important and the food options looked fab. We were shown to a table but had to wait a while before we were served. When our drinks arrived the apple juice was barely half a glass, and not much milk for the pot of tea so we were already feeling disappointed, particular considering the prices. When the food arrived it looked amazing, however the mushroom soup was cold. The staff quickly sorted that for us which was great and it returned piping hot. We did have to laugh at the amount of clover for the bread, can’t have a full glass of apple juice but can have lots of clover! But unfortunately no knife to spread it with. The Mac n cheese ordered was a hit and the cakes did look lovely even though we didn’t order any. Quite expensive but understand that these days you have to pay more. A shame the look of the cafe lets the food down.

Food was very tasty and well priced. Very pleasant terrace overlooking the river. The staff were all young folk and one or two need to be more aware of their customers inasmuch as they should allow customers the 'right of way' on the premises where storage is limited instead of just pushing on through. I noticed this as did my daughter who was with me and she commented to me on it. Notwithstanding I would recommend.

Baked potato and prawns, a wonderful cheese board, raspberry milk shakes and a fantastic view. All for £10.a head. I long to return. Great service , the home bakes looked amazing. Good to see.

Although i have lived in Shrewsbury all my life--60 years--- i have never been before but was more than pleasantly surprised ---service quick and staff friendly and helpful ----and as for the food all can say is it was second to none

Lovely location, especially sitting outside on a warm day. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff are friendly. The food we chose was nothing spectacular, but the location is so good it's worth the visit.

Visited this cafe a few times, the menu generally has something for everyone. We visited today because we had the kids with us. Quite disappointed by the service. Asked for a strawberry milkshake for my son. It seemed that no one really wanted to make it as 3 different members of staff were asked if they’d like to make it and it was met with quite a negative huff each time!! (I don’t think they realised the customer that ordered it was stood infront of them) In the end my son did get his ‘strawberry’ milkshake that was basically fluffed up milk!!! Asked if more strawberry flavour could be added (as there was no flavour) and we were presented with a very small dish of strawberry syrup that is usually used for decoration. So I paid for fluffed up milk in the end!! The food was bought out and instead of serving the food next to the person that ordered it, all the dishes were passed to the relevant person right over my son who was trying to eat his food. Arm right in his face! Call us old fashioned but it doesn’t take much to walk round a table to serve the food. It’s the little things like this that can make or break a visit. We will definitely leave it a while before we try again.

The river view cafe provided the food for after my nans funeral. Rebecca was wonderful sorting out the arrangements with us and delivering the food to us on the day. Every thing was lovely and fresh and plenty of choice. Everyone commented on the delicious variety of sandwiches, savouries and cakes. Thanks you for providing wonderful refreshments on a difficult day. We would highly recommend the River view cafe.

Very friendly and welcoming, we asked if we could have afternoon tea, we were told this is pre order only but the lady checked if we could have it and the lovely lady in the kitchen kindly obliged. And it was worth it! It was delicious and very very filling… so much so that although my partner has a big appetite even he left two of the small cakes and so did I (we were able to take them away with us in a box) our sandwiches were salmon and cream cheese, ham and tomato and egg cress… they were lovely especially the salmon! Cakes were millionaires shortbread, flapjack, rocky road, brownie and a huge fruit scone with clotted cream and jam. They were generous with the cream and jam too! Our lattes were lovely too and the service and view was fab! Will 100% return and we want to try the ploughman’s lunch that looked amazing!!

Very relaxing with excellent freshly made meals. We chose to sit inside because it was a very hot, sunny day, but there are many outside tables with canopy roofs and excellent views. Highly recommend a visit.

Had a great breakfast here at the weekend. Outdoor seating is available with some great views over Shrewsbury and indoor seating too. Give it a go.

Visited with four adults, a 1 year old and a small dog. First of all, as the name suggests, the outside seating has a fantastic view over the river Severn which makes for very pleasant surroundings to enjoy your meal. The food and drinks were high quality and good value, with a decent choice for both vegans and vegetarians. The service was friendly and helpful. I ordered the ploughmans, and it was a good size portion with plenty of cheese provided. I'd happily go back to the cafe next time I visit Shrewsbury,

Nice views on a sunny day with inside and outside seating. Food was lovely but part of my order was missing and felt I was very inconvenient for asking for it and no apology was given. Hopefully just a one off as it was a nice place to go

Extensive and interesting menu with options for most budgets. We were a party of 7 and everyone enjoyed their choices. In better weather the terrace would be a great place to admire the views.

Wonderful views of Shrewsbury and the river from the outdoor terrace, it feels like a little secret spot where you can chill and stare at the horizon. Jacket potato with beans was solid. Good cake rumour has it.

This is a super cafe in the Parade with great views over English Bridge and the River Severn. I saw a neighbouring table with interesting cakes ,sandwiches and scones which wasn’t on the menu. I asked and was told it was afternoon tea which had to be ordered in advance. When told I could order it I could not resist and it was a lovely sight on arrival and very enjoyable to eat. Very good and pleasant service made my birthday treat complete

We were in Shrewsbury early to do some shopping but left home without breakfast, came to the River View cafe as we always get great, good quality food and today was no exception, we both decided on bacon and sausage roll. The bacon and sausage are of great quality. The staff are always pleasant and the cafe is very clean

I used this cafe for work meetings and stayed on for lunch - despite being fairly busy it was still quiet enough to hold a work meeting effectively. It has a terrace over looking the river which would be great on a dry sunny day...

Found out that parking is a nightmare in Shrewsbury, NCP car park very difficult to pay. A Fair view of the river to be had if its not raining, Staff were great, its definitely dog friendly. Food was OK

Attentative, polite, professional, caring and friendly staff that make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. A lovely menu and quality food, extremely dog friendly as well. An atmosphere that a café should be like and always enjoyable for a return visit. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

We came for breakfast, it wasn’t anything special, and the cafe looked a little untidy inside with outdated magazines and brochures above our table.

Ordered food and drinks, waited a very long time, other customers came and went with service, and so we left. Very disappointed, it was after lunch and fairly quiet. We shall not recommend or return to this venue.

Visited this cafe for a quick bite to eat about 130pm on Bank Holiday Monday. Quite hard to find and tucked away somewhat, had to put google maps on to find it from the Town Centre. Staff were friendly, tables weren't particularly clean upon arrival...

Visited here for the first time. All the staff were friendly. Good choice of cakes and drinks available. Sadly the cake we were served was extremely dry with hardly any filling, the drinks were fine. Also the table was extremely sticky! I laid down napkins...

Many complaints on how the staff are treated, very fast pace with little help. What appeared to be the manager seemed rude and patronising to young staff. A shame as this is a lovely area for a cafe and have lovely food and young staff working

We arrived for lunch at 2pm on one of the hottest days in a long time. It goes without saying the lunch we had was excellent, the service first class. However we must really give a great commendation to the staff, especially the kitchen staff...

Joined friends for coffee and a catch up. Ordered Yorkshire Rarebit & friends had French Toast. Conversation was a bit strained because it can get busy here & I had to raise my voice over the noise level. Drinks good standard and cannot fault service....

My first visit and I really enjoyed it. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We were greeted and asked if we would like to sit inside or outside to have our meal. I had a sandwich and my daughter had a pallini. They were freshly made, with us very quickly and delicious. Definitely will be returning!

Not a very good dining experience. Very nice young kids trying to run a disorganized and understaffed cafe. Very long wait for a tin of coke then a bland sandwich. The initial server to her credit knew the whole menu by heart. I certainly regret going to the perfectly located place. Toilet Access very limited!
