Lunch booked for a birthday treat, ordered from the a la cart menu as more choice than the set menu. We had to wait 30 minutes for our starter while tables around us were served their main and dessert . When our main arrived the side order was missing, I had to ask for it and by the time it arrived we were over half way through our meal. The food was excellent but the service was disappointing.

My wife and I were there for our 55th wedding anniversary. The meal was quite expensive but well worth it. We both had the seabass ceviche followed by the beef wellington. I did point out that I previously had had the beef wellington a few months previously in the Grill and the mushroom layer had been compressed so much it had the texture of cardboard. No such thing this time, it was prefect! The sommelier was very attentive and friendly and the waiting staff were just outstanding. Gordon Ramsey did come into the restaurant for a short time during our meal. It probably isn't his style but it would have been nice if he had made a bit of an effort to acknowledge the clientele. At end of our meal, we were presented with a small dish of treats with 'Happy Anniversary' in chocolate which was much appreciated

I knew that there would be no riverside view as I had read comments from previous diners. But there are no views at all. The restaurant lacks any ambiance/atmosphere. I have eaten at The Savoy Grill several times and the food and service has always been wonderful. After walking down a long hallway we were left waiting around five minutes at an empty desk to be greeted and shown to our table. We ordered off the Al La Carte menu. We both opted for scallops and fish pie. Two scallops presented in the shell. £23.00 Fish pie £27.00 Spinach £8.00 The scallops were ok, but just that. I have eaten much better elsewhere and cooked better myself. The fish pie was not at all nice. The fish had a very strong taste and the whole dish was very salty. The spinach was gritty and cold. Having left most of our fish pie and spinach, when the waitress took away the plates, she enquired “did you enjoy your lunch?” I must own up and say I did an eye roll before replying and pointing to the plates saying “clearly not”. However, no one from the management followed this up. Maybe she didn’t pass my comments on. We decided to up and leave without having desert. What an overpriced, underwhelming experience. Unfortunately I won’t be returning as I’d prefer to spend my money at The Ritz which never disappoints. Gordon…….listen up……as you might say “what a f…ing disgrace”.

We had a table booked for 12.30pm for Sunday Lunch. Had a pre lunch drink in The American Bar which was great fun. Friendly welcome from front of house at the restaurant and we had a really lovely waitress (I think she was called Marie) who looked after us perfectly. Starters were lovely. The Prawn Cocktail was huge! The Burrata with Romesco sauce was really tasty. Roast beef was great and well cooked. Nice trimmings. Beef Wellington melted in the mouth and all side dishes were lovely. Too full for dessert. After reading some of the recent reviews we were slightly worried about eating in the restaurant but for us it was mostly very, very good. In fact we said we would go back again in a few months time. Think that says it all really???

A very underwhelming experience. It was my wife's 70th birthday celebration and I decided to throw the boat out. Being the Savoy I expected a really personal service and something really special. What we received can only be decribed as run of the mill. Many of the waiting staff were still in training, mix ups in drinks and food orders and to top it all, the 'special celebation treat' did not even arrive. Perhaps I should have booked a table in the Grill!

We were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table and made to feel very welcome. We had bread while waiting for our starter, we both chose the scallops and they were well presented and tasted great. I ordered the monkfish and prawn curry which was lovely , my husband ordered the fish and chips but said they were nothing special for the price and wished he’d chosen something else. I finished with the Manjari chocolate and salted caramel delice which was delicious, my husband had sticky toffee pudding which he enjoyed. The service throughout was excellent, our wine and water was topped up regularly. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I'm writing to dispute the review of the Sunday roast dinner, which I almost didn't order due to an earlier review. I thought it was tremendous, a very very filling meal and very well prepared. I'd agree that it is not an earth-shatteringly new take on the traditional Sunday meal, but I was happy with it. See photo. I would only substitute a different green for the charred cabbage, which I didn't care for. Service at this restaurant was outstanding.

We dined at the River Restaurant recently prior to seeing a show at the Savoy Theatre. If you’re not staying at the Savoy , this is a great way to get the experience of this fabulous hotel - without the fabulous price tag. Of course, you could dine at the Savoy Grill instead - just at the other end of the lobby and both ‘by’ Gordon Ramsay. The River Restaurant looks great and some tables (including ours) have great views over the river. Service is that hospitable and reasonably formal style typical of many London restaurants today. There’s no real dress code. It’s a hotel restaurant so you have guests mixing with people dressed for a night out and all points in between. We ate from the set menu (available to 17.45). It is a limited choice compared to some and expensive for what it was. Drinks especially aren’t cheap so check the menus online before you go. If you fancy a bottle of wine you’ll be looking at £46 minimum. That said, we’ve been before and knew what it was all about. Our food was tasty, well presented and the wine was excellent. Sadly, the waiter service wasn’t so good (same criticism last time we came). We asked for bread - it didn’t appear. Our starters arrived before anyone had come to take a drinks order. Eventually - after our plates had been cleared from the starter, the waiter asked if we still wanted the bread. No! Despite this, the hotel and ambiance make up for a lot and you can’t help but be impressed by where you are. Still recommended but with a request to Mr Ramsay to offer a little more menu variation and get on top of the front of house.

I really wanted this to be a great review....unfortunately I have to agree with some of the poor reviews. This is my second Ramsay experience and I was hoping this one was beter than the first .....it was worse. The ultimate issue is pricing and value for money, the price tag suggest an experience that differntiates itself from other restaurants but it doesnt. The food was on par with most pub lunches and the wine menu whilst vast was extortionately over priced. We were not on a budget at all but found the whole experience average at best. We ended with just a starter and main and opted to avoid the wine and dessert menu. Being at the Savoy and listing itself as 'London's finest' is a huge statement to make and a huge expectation to meet and it simply falls short. The staff were OK but like anywhere else and I wouldnt say were trained to the standard the Savoy or Ramsay himself 'dictates'...... The venue was also cold. If you go stay away from the windows as everyone (including us) asked to relocate. If you want an experience opt for one of the independent restaurants just off Oxford St in Mayfair or Marleybourbne where the price meets the quality and service.

Overpriced high street food just like any other Gordon Ramsay restaurant. Don't bother wasting your money here. Much better available outside the Savoy Hotel.

Enjoyed a very nice meal from the lunch set menu with my mum. Staff were courteous and obliging. The room is very nice and comfortable. The food was superb, and we both particularly enjoyed the sauce to compliment the green beans and trout.

We were a large family group of 17 with ages ranging from one to seventy eight. We opted for a private room which was faultlessly arranged through Zoi, the events manager, who dealt with my various queries courteously and efficiently at every stage. We all had a sumptuous time. Everything was perfect from start to finish. Richard( the restaurant manager?) was both charming and efficient as were all the other staff who so admirably looked after us. We worked off the standard à la carte and children’s menus. I certainly felt they offered very good value for money further enhanced by such an opulent setting. Without exception everybody loved their menu choice and there was certainly some ‘picky foodies ‘ amongst us! I had pre chosen some wine but the sommelier also expertly guided me with others . The extensive wine list , I would say, has been very well put together to cater for all tastes and budgets. First must be the quality of food in a restaurant but closely followed by the service and general ambience. In this case I would give top marks to all three. We have visited here before and can’t wait to go again.

Our first visit to The River Restaurant since the Gordon Ramsay "takeover" but we had been in previous guises. We had purchased a set lunch for two Gift Voucher last year in a special offer. Set lunch is normally £45 for three courses which is good value. It was pretty busy and booking was essential. The room is lovely with an oval bar area in the centre (which is a new addition) and a high staff to guest ratio. There was no specific server allocated so the serving was done by several different staff members. The food is very good without being dynamic. Starters of seabass ceviche (excellent) and prawn cocktail (rather pedestrian, really more of a lettuce salad). The wild mushroom risotto was fabulous and the steelhead trout delicious(although I was glad I ordered a side of fries - which did not initially arrive so were given complimentary). The third main course of beef Wellington had a hefty supplement of £30 which seemed expensive. The two desserts, sticky toffee pudding and manjari chocolate and salted caramel delice were both very enjoyable. As might be expected at this establishment the wine list is quite pricey but if you look carefully there are some reasonable bottles to be had such as the dry furmint. Total cost with a bottle of water, service, but no teas or coffees was £180.00 which was pretty reasonable for the experience and we would return.

We were given this very special treat as a Christmas present and couldn’t wait to use it for Sunday lunch We have been to the Savoy Grill recently and it was top notch so we were expecting the same from the river restaurant Sadly it was so disappointing.. My husband & I are not small people and we were sat at a small round table in the restaurant- which felt cramped We both ordered beef for our Sunday lunch .. to say we were disappointed was an understatement !! After we ordered ours we heard a different waiter explain to another table that the beef was two slices and the roast chicken a leg and breast Unfortunately our waiter didn’t advise us and was only interested in giving us the drinks menu!! We received two very thin slices of beef ,( looked more like two thin slices of steak that had been sliced and cooked on one side ) a Yorkshire pudding which looked very amateurish ( bearing in mind we had a Yorkshire pudding at the Savoy grill that was amazing and filled with beef!) two batons of carrots, a parsnip , 3 roast potatoes and a small serving of cauliflower cheese ! It was all very tasty but wasn’t the Gordon Ramsey Wow factor we had experienced or expected from the Savoy ! It was a simple basic no frills Sunday lunch Unfortunately we will not be returning to this restaurant

Great ambiance, service, food and a very extensive wine list! Oysters were sublime, as were the sea bream, crab and asparagus served along with the best chips ever! We tried two desserts - rhubarb and the choux with hazelnut - both were delicious! Will definitely be going back again!
