Lovely people, gorgeous coffee, and delightful cafe. Highly recommend.

It was busy during the Independents Market day but people were happy to make space. Good atmosphere and service. I got the bacon and Emmental cheese roll, delicious but pricy at £6.50! Good coffee and they didn’t mind us hanging around for the rain to stop. They give you a toy to indicate that you have a food order which was cute.

At the edge of the marketplace car park, this is a superb cafe & gallery. The food is delicious

My first visit yesterday and hopefully won’t be my last. Only popped in for coffee and cake but was pleasantly impressed. Great coffee and delicious cake. The menu looks good for breakfast/brunch so can’t wait to try it out. The staff were all very friendly and a lovely atmosphere.

The food was delicious, and the service was fast even though it was crowded. Love shack-shuka and Nam-egg-stay with halloumi are highly recommended.

We cycle here at from Midsomer Norton at least twice a week. The coffee is the best we have anywhere but somehow it's also the cheapest. There sausage or bacon rolls in ciabatta or delicious. All the staff are a really happy helpful bunch.

Excellent menu with veggie and vegan options, coffee and tea, and a cozy art-inspired environs with plenty of seating both indoor and outside. Shakshuka with poached eggs and fries were really good!

I stopped with 2 friends for a coffee which was excellent. I've been there before it's always been good, a good selection of snacks or lunch and good coffee. Well worth a visit.

Great food served with a genuinely warm smile. Best breakfast in the southwest with tasty homemade baked beans. The staff are a joy, the most disappointing part of the experience is waiting for a table as it's so busy!

THE BEST BREAKFAST I think I have EVER had. Lots of capitals because it was deserved. Friendly staff and a welcoming, bustling atmosphere. A bit quirky looking at first but we’ll worth a visit.

A varied breakfast menu with some nice spins on classics and some more adventurous choices. Execution fine if unspectacular- personally I like my French toast thicker but that’s not the end of the world - and service was fast and efficient. No frills surroundings but not without charm. We arrived at the right time, about 10. As we left it was filling up so get there early to ensure you’re not waiting around or outside on a grotty day. I’d definitely go back as nosing at other tables I had a bit of envy for the muffins and the ‘hash Gordon…,

Lovely cakes Inc vegan and gf. Breakfasts are quality and decent size. We had the house breakfast, avo toast and sweetcorn fritters. All delicious. Very very fast service. Staff are very friendly. Definitely worth the price. There is a shop with nice gifts and a gallery. Highly recommend.

We visited on market day. So the place was packed. Really busy. But we were still greeted with a genuine smile. Told about the expected wait time. And dealt with happily and calmly. Despite how busy they were. The breakfast was perfect and the coffee was great . All the staff were a pleasure

Nice outside setting on a warm day. We ordered two house breakfasts which we arrived and we had finished before our two black coffees arrived (with apologies as it was busy..) Bacon and sausage were really good. The 'baked beans' just tasted of raw acidic tomato and mushrooms were dry and insipid.

Single slice of toast £3.50 ?? I requested brown but was told they no longer have brown bread but could offer sourdough bread. When the bill arrived I was surprised to see a supplement charge of £1.00 on top of the normal £2.00 / I won’t be making that mistake again !

Noisy inside - music and a lot of loud chatter. Not very relaxing. Luke warm cappuccino. The little chocolate Brookies were nice though.

Such a relaxed and welcoming vibe here. Also, the Turkish eggs were absolutely incredible. 10/10

This has become our go-to cafe when we visit Frome. The food is excellent, often with the addition of spice. The first time I went there, there was a queue outside the gate, to beat the rush. The place is always very busy, which speaks volumes

Had a lovely lunch here by myself, with genuinely friendly service and delicious food. The fitter fritters were perfect, and the pineapple upside-down cake was simple - as it should be - and nicely done.

We use river house regularly for coffee and light lunch or breakfast and have previously found it to be a nice friendly relaxed place for a break. Just recently we have been disappointed with the attitude of one or two staff members ( most are lovely) who seem to think throwing the chairs around approching end of business is a good way of removing customers. Well it turns out they're right! I also would like to question the price of a sausage sandwich. 7 pounds? We had bacon bap instead...5 pounds??? I mean OK but just the 2 rashers of bacon.. very nicely cooked but really expensive. I think not in future. Pity. Lovely place and some lovely staff. .

I'm a regular customer. The food is fantastic and the staff are all really friendly.

I popped in with a friend today. We both enjoyed our food but I was surprised to have to fetch my own cutlery. As someone else has mentioned the chairs aren’t very comfortable. Otherwise it was enjoyable and good value

This is an excellent coffee shop. A really great location with an excellent vibe and backed up with the highest quality food and drink. The coffee (we ordered a cappuccino and an Americano, black) is very good quality and is made and presented exceptionally well. The cappuccino in particular had a thick mallowy type texture to the foam and the flavour of the coffee was rich and robust. You can buy beans on site and I regret not doing this, but it's also a great excuse to go back. We also ordered a raspberry and pistachio cake which similarly impressed. Light and textured, with balanced flavours and very moreish. There were a range of sweet treats available and I doubt there's a bad item on their menu based on the quality of this cake. The decor and the vibe inside is fun and playful with loyalty to Frome and the surrounding area. It is connected to a delightful little arts centre and there is a smart little shop which has a range of affordable jewellery and other pieces. It is a great little spot and the staff are friendly and welcoming, I cannot fault the presentation of this venue at all it's just a wonderful place to be, from the welcome when you step through the door, the outdoor seating and the playful table identifiers (we had a Wonderwoman duck!) it is just a great spot. Go visit, relax and enjoy!

Found this restaurant for breakfast/brunch. Very busy but clearly can cope. Menu varied and some ingredients and combinations delightful. Coffee lovely. Near a car park and extra seating outdoors under cover. Dog friendly, hiker friendly, push chair friendly, and great music (soft rock).

Possibly the nicest oat flat white I've had! And the food was delicious - seasonal French toast for me and avocado on sourdough for him... Just what we both needed. The service was wonderful, the place had a really warm and welcoming feel, and from the steady flow of people the whole time we were there, we're not the only ones who think so!

Best veggie breakfast I've ever had. I'm not vegetarian but thought I'd try something different. My husband had the regular full English and really enjoyed it. Our dog was welcome too and the staff were lovely :) we'll be back. Thank you!

Really gorgeous food with friendly staff! A favourite in Frome

Had a really lovely brunch here, excellent quality food with fast service. The team that work here are very friendly and happy to help you. We visited with a small baby and a pram and while there's not a huge amount of room to park up a buggy we didn't struggle and noticed there were several others inside too. The food options are brilliant with a wide choice to suit all eaters, it's tasty and filling without being overpriced.

Food is great, staff are friendly, nice location, prices reasonable. Portions are adequate. Good selection and choices suitable for a variety of specific diets. We are not fans of having dogs inside the dining room and the chairs are very very hard and uncomfortable to sit on.

First visit since River House moved, still the best coffee. Nicest breakfast of a few I’ve had recently and excellent cakes - the cherry cheesecake definitely tasting way better than it looks 😉. Friendly staff and relaxed few hours thanks!

We were in Frome last weekend and although we have been to many wonderful restaurants and cafes, this is the I wish I could bring back with me home! We were four grown ups and three teens, all are different things and not a single crumb left in any of the plates! All delicious and generous portions too. If you are in Frome do not miss!

Really enjoyable 11am Sunday brunch. Coffee and orange juice were great. Very adventurous menu, for example, the cooked breakfast had a wonderfully tasty polenta slice instead of the usual potato hash brown. This was really, really good. Homemade beans were a bit al dente for my liking and I thought they they tasted a bit funky for a breakfast item. The black pudding, sausage, egg on buttered sourdough were all fantastic. The cooked tomatoes were grilled and slightly charred to a caramelised perfection. My partner had a sort of salmon avocado eggs benedict royale but it was on a herby scone base instead of the usual muffin. Again, I thought it tasted a bit funky and I'm not sure it's one for the puritans.

Rubbish breakfast trying to be to arty farty, drowned in beans sauce with added greens ( why I don't know but hey ho) cost an arm and a leg, oil that it's cooked in tastes weird, smallest piece of so called friend bread or whatever it's supposed to be , sausage looks like it's been hung up in grizzly Addams hut for six months, and you get more tomatoes that the Spanish tomato throwing fiesta, ....did I mention that I will not be going back

Definitely one to discover in Frome. Great selection of items on their menu. Superb coffee. All items are home made or locally sourced. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Previously a 5 star cafe this place has unfortunately lost its charm with its move to bigger premises. Prices are up and flexibility and customer service down even the food isn't as good as it used to be as it is now a shade of its former self with little attention to details and customers needs. This once super friendly haven of tranquility in a desert of production line cafes has been laid low.....so sad.

Lovely service, hippy vibe to the place making it feel relaxed but lovely. I had a scrambled eggs dish with greens, crushed peas, sourdough, halloumi and some other bits, very different flavours but tasty. Hubby had poached egg on herbed scone with hollandaise sauce, tasty...

Never had a disappointing experience at this cafe. Meals on the menu, for me, all have something included that I would consider “acquired”, however I feel this is something that works in their favour. The staff are friendly and a real pleasure to interact with....

Very welcoming and attentive staff. Lots of choices for both food and beverages. Very impressive range of delicious gluten & dairy free cakes. We shared 7 different cakes and thoroughly enjoyed them. Similarly a good range of drinks, the milkshakes went down a treat and a generous amount of tea and milk for 3 cups from the one pot. Excellent value for money. Lovely atmosphere and great background music that allowed conversation without any need to raise your voice. The meal choices looked very tempting and we would all consider coming back here for a meal.

Really nice place, lovely food. Was enjoying my breakfast until people started bringing their dogs into the cafe. I am ultra allergic to dogs so quickly ate up and left. We won't return because of this. Why are dogs allowed into the cafe at all?...

5 stars for the millionaires shortbread. Homemade? So rich, buttery goodness. 5 stars for the service and community feel. 2 stars for the hot chocolate. Felt like they only used half the amount of chocolate. Also could have been a bit hotter.

Impressively robust crockery, able to withstand being thrust onto the table with some force. Probably not a Greek restaurant.

Too many veggie/vegan options not enough for meat eaters, beans on breakfast are not the usual baked beans they're a mixed bean that taste like chilli con carne (not what you want on your breakfast) But I can say staff are very friendly and polite, service is very quick too!

Delicious lunch, dog friendly and helpful staff.

A family group of us visited today for a late breakfast/early lunch. Although we were a fairly big group, the staff made us welcome, quickly cleaned and made up a table for the group. We mostly ordered the large breakfasts some being the vegan option and various hot drinks. The food was delicious and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. We felt the staff genuinely enjoy their work there and that showed in their great attitude. We were not hurried nor hassled and left there feeling well set up for a lovely walk around the beautiful town. Would definitely visit again if we return to that part of the country. Well done River House, you do Frome proud!
