Very low quality food. Both dishes we ordered were dry and stogey, and probably microwaved before served. Very unlike food you would expect at a vegetarian Indian restraunt.

Amazing experience! I went in for Barbie opening day and wasn’t disappointed with the atmosphere. Employees were all-dressed in pink (one was wearing a pink cowboy hat 🤠), pink balloons were everywhere, place was buzzing, and there was definitely fun chalkboard drawings for Barbenheimer! The screen and venue itself was high class. If you want a good screen, this is the place - and my screen wasn’t even the best one. I can’t speak for the food because I swear off all theatre food. What I did instead was that we went to the nearby Brixton Market (~5 mins away) and ate there. Now for the very expensive ticket price (I’m comparing this to my Canadian prices. Also it was 14.5 pounds), it was well worth it simply because of the effort the place went for Barbenheimer. If you are going for a premiere, go to this one. However for normal movie going, probably don’t go.

Used to visit this place often with friends, last time attending a screening and enjoying drinks on NYE, very enjoyable. However, yesterday afternoon's experience was shocking! Huge swathes of people pushing through main doors to get in, security guard just standing close by doing nothing! Someone aggressively pushed me, luckily I had my balance or could have been much worse or even fatal (especially with what has happened down the road very recently!). Shabby interior, friendly bar staff upstairs, who tried her best, but bar area was strewn with half drank cans, sweets and other items (Lemsip!), which later realised were from the cast/band. Do they not have a green room or equivalent? So unprofessional to sit next to them on their break and then see the security guard come and relax too, to charge his phone, was anyone on duty downstairs then? They could have roped the area off for staff/visitors or cleared it for customers, need to make a choice! Working in a theatre, I was shocked at the state of affairs here.

Awful manager! Went to the cinema on Tuesday, and when we were sat down people had the same seats as us - turned out we’d turned up a day too late! Despite the cinema being practically empty the manager wouldn’t let us go in, was being cryptic about how much it would cost us, saying it would be a lot... She was so rude and ruined my friends birthday. So unreasonable considering we’d just spent £20 on food and drinks and it was clearly an innocent mistake.

Excited to see Knives Out. And we're members of The PictureHouse chain, love the one in Clapham. But this was a horrible experience. The place was so hot that everyone came out sweaty with hair plastered to their heads. Several customers complained of the smell of urine (not helped by the excessive heat) and a staff member came in and sprayed air freshener everywhere, that didn't help. The place needs a good clean and to sort it's aircon/heating out.

My family and I were looking forward to the first screening of Maleficent, but left after 20 minutes. Screen 4 (sadly not the large screen for a new film, why??) was absolutely freezing and the stench of urine was quite distracting. Certainly not a nice experience. Apparently even the staff prefer to view films elsewhere because of this! I’ve recently read that a number of the Picturehouse cinemas are closing, which quite frankly is unsurprising. Especially since they have been owned by Cineworld for a number of years. Whilst the cinemas are quite stylish and used to show non-mainstream films, 85% of what they show you can see elsewhere in far more comfortable surroundings. All style over substance, with increasingly ridiculous prices.

I saw someone quite dear to me, who lives in Brixton, and she picked on The Ritzy for a lunchtime meal and drink. The menu was quite strange with oddities such as curried beetroot and more. House white was relatively expensive at £17.50 a bottle, and, for me, the lavatories seemed miles away. When everything works this is a great cinema with super staff, but their IT seems to be perennially unreliable. Recommendation to management- don't spend any more money on naff adverts for Picturehouse membership, and instead invest in upgrading your IT. Mixed bag really. Had the veggie taco for lunch today, which turned out to be mushroom and brie, a few strands of cabbagey stuff, and a dressing - in what seemed more like a tortilla 'open' wrap. Very tasty but was presented badly, and nothing else on the plate to make it look super yum. A salad garnish would've given it some flare, and justified the price too.Tasted better than it looked, but feel it could have done with a few more flourishes to make the experience 'more'.Previous expeditions here have been similar. Had a veggie pizza here before, which was okay, a little dry in places, and again might've been nice to have 'some' salad garnish. But hey, maybe I'm just expecting too much for my money.

Part of the picturehouse group, this more local independent cinema offers an alternative cinema experience. Tailored to adults, the place screens a combination of blockbuster and alternative films. The sears are very comfortable and you can enjoy a glass of wine while you watch the film- the overall experience is so much more enjoyable. I recommend arriving early and having a drink @ the bar. Recently I went to see Moonlight at the Ritzy. Thje final scene of tyhe film is tender and moving, but even before the credits started rolling, the auditorium lights were slammed up., thus ruining the atmosphertre. Anybody who wanted to leave before the credits finished would be able to see perfectly well by the side lights. I spoke to the manager about it, but he couldn't have cared less, and made it obvious. I was talking to a neighbour about it and she said exactly ther same thing had happened when she saw that film there. The manager then told her the lights in that screen were faulty. Well, they must have been faulty in the screen I was at too, as it was a different one. Perhaps they just want to hurry people out, forgetting that without those people they wouldn't have a job. These managers are more suited to working in a Pound shop. Shame.

It's my local. so would almost be rude not to go.Best deals I think come with membership, which although lapsed now I had for 3/4 years. It gets you free reduced tickets, discount on refreshments at all Picturehouse screenings and a few other places to boot.I've been going to this cinema since college, 3 decades (ahem - don't start working our numbers!) and always loved its central location and great selection of mainstream and indie flicks. You never know which screening room ( 1- 5) you'll end up in, but alone or with friends it's great to stay abreast of new and classic releases it hosts. Sometimes the odd Q&A from talent, producers or contributors (I've seen a few...) adds that extra layer to your trip too.Not always the most economical or choice refreshments available, but Upstairs At The Rity is also good for an unusual night out, if you're about at the right time. They've had their fair share of challenges with wage disputes, boycotts and closure, but essentially they show some good films and no doubt at some point there'll be something for you - too.

The Ritzy is something of a Brixton institution, and has been going in one form or another for over a century now. It's a lovely cinema showing a mixture of arthouse, independent films as well as more mainstream offerings. It has a restaurant/bar downstairs with a view out over Windrush Square, as well as a bar upstairs which runs various functions. It's an excellent spot to take in a film or just enjoy a drink and a burger in the heart of Brixton. The Ritzy has been disrupted quite seriously over the last couple of years by a long-running industrial dispute over pay. Cineworld, the highly profitable multinational which owns Picturehouse, and by extension the Ritzy, is scandalously refusing to pay it's staff the Living Wage, a mean-spirited piece of corporate vindictiveness which jars with the Ritzy's otherwise justified reputation as an open-minded, progressive cultural hub. The dispute has meant that several opening weekends for blockbuster films have been shut down, and customers have been forced into making a choice between missing their film or crossing a picket-line of low-paid young workers. You can't blame the (otherwise impeccably helpful) staff for this disruption- kicking off over crap wages is entirely justified. Blame lies with the bosses.Sort it out Picturehouse! The Ritzy deserves more than a 3-star review!

So there really is no excuse for not paying a visit. The screens are not top of the range, but are decent enough for all but the extreme film critic. Seats are reasonably comfortable, but some screens have no cup holders and I don't think there are any upgrade seats available.Unfortunately this cinema does attract patrons who like to talk through the movies. I have visited The Riitzy twice and both times I've missed a lot of the movie due to chatting or phone users. So my only criticism would be that this is not policed enough. Picture House is a small chain of cinemas mainly based in London and the Ritzy is one of their flagship theatres. Many of their theatres are renovated turn of the century cinemas and this is one of the finest examples of that. There aren't many places this beautiful that you can watch a film on the big screen. There program is quite idiosyncratic, putting on films you couldn't see in anywhere else, from new Indy releases, to old classics. Showing are a little more expensive then your adverse big chain, but I feel you're paying to keep an old fashion idea of cinema alive and I think it's worth it.But the Ritzy is not only a cinema, it's also a bar, cafe and music venue. It's a great place to see some local talent perform, eat some of the tasty food they have on offer, or just chill al fresco with a drink and watch Brixton go by in Windrush square in front of the cinema. There really isn't a better place to catch a film in south London.

I really like this cinema, I live in Kennington so it's convenient and it's a comfortable theatre to watch a movie. They do a really good student offer, I think it's £15 for membership, but with that you get 2 free cinema tickets (worth £22 alone) plus other perks. The downside is that the tickets from that point are £11 even with student discount, which is easily the most I have ever paid to go to the cinema, but hey I am from the North. We came here to watch a film the other week and had a really enjoyable experience. The individual screen rooms are huge with plenty of seats. This is quite different to other cinemas, and probably a more efficient way of showing films. The seats were extremely comfortable, although quite a few people arrived late and the uninterrupted seating rows means everyone on a row has to stand up in order to let someone "in".The independent nature of Ritzy means a mix of mainstream, independent and world cinema films are shown, and there is a commitment to social sustainability too with local events regularly held.Plenty of food, snacks and drinks available for purchase inside, and with a bar and music venue Ritzy just isn't a cinema either.A great location too; very close to Brixton tube and train stations, and bus stops for all the buses that pass through. One issue I have here is the extreme leftist views/posters that adjourn the walls in the live-music area, which come across as being neo-liberalist.

I have mixed feelings about this cinema. On the whole I like it, but there are some annoyances - There always seems to be a long queue, often out into the street. Not a problem if you already have your tickets/don't need to collect 3D glasses or buy popcorn. I don't understand why they don't sell popcorn/3D glasses at the drinks bar?I don't like the toilets. In the gents, because of where the cubicles are placed, you can see right into the cubicle down the side of the cubicle door. They need to make it so that you can close the cubicle doors more tightly. Also, the advert for the picture house cinema chain seems to promote the idea that the cinema is a place to watch a film and have a chat. It isn't! It's a place to watch a film and sit in silence!

You can take a glass of wine in with you if you wish. Upstairs bar at the ritzy also has regular music and performance nights and there is another bar/restaurant on the ground floor, and for summer you can sit outside in the sun and watch the bustling, and sometimes crazy, Brixton life go by.

This is in a good location, but is very, very overpriced. It charges about the same, if not more as central London! Would not go here again for a film. People seemed to enjoy the food, so that might be ok!

Terrible London day so we retreated to the Ritzy. We were attracted by the great selection of movies. We enjoyed a lovely glass of wine before heading into the small, boutique theatre to watch a wonderful arthouse movie. Sure beats getting wet feet on a wet day.

Good atmosphere, decent prices, sometimes takes a while when it's busy but that's to be expected. I'd go back!

I'm unable to review the food but went here to watch a film. It is a retro cinema and one of my favourite in London. The seats are super comfy and it is a great venue. If you go on a Monday the tickets are pretty cheap too.

Stopped for a business lunch one afternoon. Lovely artisan type food. Not a massive choice but what they did have was well made and delicious. The chocolate tart was to die for. So decadent. I had a salad which was amazing. Massive portions too.

A great place to catch a matinee and have the place to yourself!Cheaper tickets during the day, and usually quiet for a solo matinee if you get the day off from work. Comfy seats and nice cosy theatres.

We sat outside The Ritzy a few weeks back having drinks in the sun.It felt strange to me as we were on the edge of a main road having said that it was really busy, buzzing & lively. I enjoyed the atmosphere and it was a fun place to hang out. There have been a few comments bout drinks prices but I don't remember it being overly expensive although we were on vodka/sodas...my friend also had a burger and sweet potato chips and it looked pretty good and again I don't remember it being overly priced.Helpful hint: give it a go it's something different, it has a great history so is worth a visit, sit outside if it's sunny!

O local é um cinema que no último andar tem um bar muito agradável e no dia que fui estava rolando uma banda ao vivo. Tem uma varanda que torna ainda mais especial. É pequeno e aconchegante com a vista para rua.

The food is overpriced, sure, but this place is instrumental in the long-overdue gentrification of Brixton. It's nice to watch a film in boutique comfort whilst sipping a Rekorderlig cider, so I give this very popular place two thumbs up. I recommend booking online for the more popular shows, though. The queues in here can be ridiculous.

Bought two drinks before a film tonight, a 175 glass of Malbec and a pint of ale. The price was outrageous, £6.10 for the wine and £4.60 for the beer. I have never been charged these prices anywhere in London, and I will not be buying drinks in the Ritzy bar ever again. I told the person who served me that it was very expensive and she appeared to nod in agreement. Shame this is such a rip off, because the cinema is good.

I have been to the Ritzy for coffee and to watch films on numerous occasions. However, after experiencing their brunch I feel compelled to write a review. I had Portobello mushroom and poached eggs on sourdough toast. This cost £6. The ‘toast’ was two tiny bits of bread and the mushroom was not Portobello but regular, cheap mushrooms. Although frustrating, the reason for my complaint was the overcooked poached eggs. So I sent it back and also complained that I had the wrong type of mushroom. My brunch came back with soft poached eggs, but still with the cheap mushrooms. I noticed other people who had ordered the same as me also had the cheap mushrooms. If they were out of stock of Portobello they should really let customers know in advance, or reduce the cost appropriately. My friend had the full English, but requested extra eggs as she didn’t want the meat. The extra egg didn’t come, the one she had was over-fried, beans were swimming in runny tomato sauce, hash browns were overcooked and the tomatoes barely cooked. Also had two tiny bits of sour dough bread. All that for the bargain price of £8.My other friend had the sausage sandwich which was the only decent looking thing on our table. No complaints here, but nothing to write home about either. Still pretty dear at £5.We complained again at the end of the meal and got two free coffees but the staff weren’t really apologetic. I got the impression complaints were commonplace.I should stress that they were not even busy so it must be even worse when they are. We were hungover too – so not feeling particularly fussy! This café is trying to be pretentious with its brunch offerings but all they’ve achieved is overpriced, bland, badly cooked food. A shame because it’s a nice spot to chat with friends and the cinema is good. Avoid and eat in the market instead.

Went in there last night to eat before catching a film. We both ordered the burger. I must say it was one of the worst burgers I've ever had. The meat was bone dry and overcooked, the bun was burnt to a crisp and the chips accompanying the meal were undercooked. Will not be eating in there again. When your paying £11 for a burger you really expect better. Would've been better off going to Macdonalds over the road.

I love the Ritzy. it's my local. A great place, with a fantastic terrace to watch the world go by; a wonderful cinema and a good vibe – and great value Even better if you are a member, and get all the discounts. But the food and service is hugely inconsistent. Sometimes the service is wonderful, personal, great people that just go above and beyond. But then sometimes different staff are simply rude, and will leave you waiting forever before even acknowledging that you want to order something. I think it's a management problem, because as i say, some of the staff are wonderful. The menu has changed since the end of summer, and the food just does not seem to have the same high quality ingredients, but lets hope that changes back again. Overall this is a great place, but just make sure you pick the right food and right member of staff to serve you!

Come here for the cinema which is always great or the bar which is fairly standard but pretty good. The food however is terrible. I had the burger and my other half had the goats cheese ciabatta; both were awful. To be fair though, they were pretty cheap. But with so many good options for dinner in Brixton offering the same value but at a much higher quality, there is little need to come here unless you're in a rush before seeing something at the cinema

I always love the atmosphere in Brixton due to the eclectic mix of people and sounds, therefore The Ritzy is placed in an ideal location to watch and enjoy the hustle and bustle of local life. The Ritzy has two sections, the cinema and eaterie. We were in the eaterie which has seats in and outside. We enjoyed several glasses of wine on a beautiful August evening whilst taking in the atmosphere and ambience. The staff were very polite and helpful and serice was good. To be honest, I could have stayed there for hours. I recommend The Ritzy as an alternative to other well known drinking venues and areas. You will not be disappointed.

The The Ritzy cinema Brixton opposite Lambeth Town Hall is a real asset to the area. With five screens it can always show a wide range of films, from the latest Hollywood blockbuster tointeresting foreign "art house" fims.Ticket prices are much lower than in West End and the atmosphere very much better than a commercial multi screen. The cafe within the cinema is also very popular, with friendly staff and a range of light meals. There is plenty of outdoor seating. A good place to eat when going to see a film.

This is just brilliant, you can get cheap tickets, the bar is great, the food is great - though it's annoying if you order breakfast 5 mins before cut off time and they refuse to serve you either breakfast (because they've run out of food) or lunch (because they've closed the ktichen).... However the brilliance of the cinema means they still get 5 stars

We booked an outside table as they have heaters but they had no gas in either of them. This means that when one ran out nobody had bothered to replace it. At least the waiter tried the second one which we were grateful for but this place is not well run. Two things were missing from the very small children’s menu. We put out orders in and then all had to wait over an hour for our food. We had asked for some nibbles but nothing came. We eventually ordered some chips as there was nothing else to eat. Then the food arrived came and was almost inedible. The cauliflower Wellington had a soggy piece of pastry on it and was served with an undercooked chunk of cabbage. The gauchujong tofu was a poorly plated mess, and the tofu was rubbery. The arancini balls were just not tasty. The waiter asked if the food was ok within minutes of it coming and we said yes but hadn’t really had a chance to eat much of it by then and we were so grateful to get any food as were so hungry. The quality of the food was very poor for the price we paid. The staff seemed to be doing what they could but would often disappear and we had to go in to get service several times. Just don’t book this place and definitely not outside.

A very disappointing experience. I would strongly advise NOT going here for a Sunday roast. - We had to wait 45 for our order to be taken. - the Diet Coke tasted of nothing, how do you get Coke wrong? - The food was average at best. The Roast potato's were probably the worst I’ve ever had, tasteless and rubbery. The beef was badly over cooked and very chewy. Not satisfied at with my experience.
