What a fantastic venue, what a fantastic wedding reception! Robin and Rheann worked with me and my wife to plan our wedding reception from start to finish. Both were always on hand to discuss any details, of which there were many. At every step, we were guided through the process with both going above and beyond to make adjustments and provide ideas/solutions. We were afforded exclusive use of the venue too. The reception itself was spectacular. The staff were welcoming, professional, and attentive. Every guest said the food was delicious and that the bar, despite being three deep, served drinks quickly. Some went as far to say that it was the best reception that they had been to (though I’m sure that’s the done thing!). Thank you Robin, Rheann, and The Stonhouse team for making our day the best ever. We wholeheartedly suggest The Stonhouse if you are looking to host your wedding reception. (Circa 130+ guests)

PROS: 1) TOP QUALITY FRESHLY HOME-MADE FOOD 2) INCREDIBLE SERVICE FROM FRIENDLY STAFF 3) NICE, QUIET LOCATION, BUT CLOSE TO HIGH STREET 4) WELL FURNISHED 5) ENCLOSED PUB GARDEN 6) CLEAN AND WELL-MAINTAINED CONS: NONE! My wife and I, and family, had the immense pleasure of experiencing the fantastic hospitality at the Stonhouse, on Saturday, 7th September, 2024. It was the occasion of my eldest of 3 sons (and two daughters!) wedding. The Stonhouse was the venue for the evening celebrations of his marriage to his beautiful Sardinian fiancée (now wife!) The wedding breakfast was held in a very nice restaurant which holds a place dear to their hearts. After arriving by a double decker bus they chartered, we walked the short distance from the High Street, to the Stonhouse. The evening guests were all assembled in the garden awaiting our arrival at 1600hrs, enjoying Aperol, Prosecco, and other aperitifs. Once settled, about 1615hrs, the first of the three food services began. This consisted of freshly baked mini chicken pies, mini steak pies, mini mushroom and vegetable pies, mini beef wellingtons, and three types of sausage slices. These were spicy, normal, and vegetarian. To call them sausage rolls is incorrect since they were about 60cm long, sliced into 3-4cm thick pieces, with gorgeous pastry around them. That pastry excellence was a highlight of the thickly stuffed pies too. Given that there were 150 people all packed into a relatively small garden, the staff were superb. They were negotiating with vey large salvers of pies, then sausage slices, but not once did they lose their manners or respect for the guests. They patiently waited to get through the morass of guests. They excused themselves, they were careful not to drop anything or rub their wares against wedding guests outfits. They remained polite, courteous and efficient. When it was time to go inside for another round of newly-wed speeches, there was still a copious amount of this first course left. Every single guest was massively impressed, with the mini-pies and sausage slices. My youngest son, 18 years old and 17 years younger than his brother the groom, is a massive food critic, he loved the fare. Additionally, no doubt unknown to the Stonhouse, was the eldest daughter of a famous master baker, who supplied bread and baked goods to the prestige hotels in Park Lane, amongst others. She commented on the quality of the baked goods being "superb". This says a massive amount, especially if I identified the Master Baker in question....no it's not some celebrity chef, but a truly top baker who's been at the top of the game for over 65 years. Anyway, my son and his newly wedded wife, had a cake made of multiple speciality cheeses, instead of a wedding cake. Being a bit hard of sight, I didn't realise it was cheese and was shocked when they cut through 7 layers! I'm pretty certain that the Stonhouse produced this cheese-lovers delight. By this time, service two had arrived around 1800hrs/1830hrs. This consisted of large platters of everything from chicken, expertly flame-grilled, to bruschetta and all manners of dressed salads, cakes and pastries. Again, this second service was delicious, though it was laid out inside the pub in a traditional buffet style. The presentation and quality of the food was superb, as were the constant replenishment of the items. It was a squeeze inside when everyone came in for the speeches etc, but once they were over, guests decanted to various areas of the pub. The garden and the dancefloor were the most popular. Around 2200hrs, another buffet food service with all manners of tasty meat and vegetable hot dishes were served. By this time, having been fed well enough for three days, there was only space for nibbling, certainly in my case and my wife's! Again , the quality could not be faulted, the taste was superb and all guests were suitably impressed. The Stonhouse is an amazing venue. When my son told me of his intention, I was a bit stuffy about it with visions of sticky floors and smelly toilets. It's truly a top notch venue, worth considering if you want an intimate, and first rate experience. Guests make the experience, and there were my son and daughter-in-law's friends flown in from across the World. One even came from Brunei, just for a few days to be his best man. Everyone to a tee, added to the experience, but it was the Stonhouse and it's amazing staff who were the icing on the (cheese) cake. The next day, my son had 90+ people to his house in South London with outside caterers and marquees and loads of drinks. It was great, but the conversation was all about the Stonhouse and what an amazing place it was. We all agreed, how much the Stonhouse contributed to the best wedding we had all ever been invited to. Lastly, it would be remiss of me not to mention Robyn (Robin?, apologies if incorrect) and her staff. They were incredible. Special mention has to go to Jean Michel who had to keep me hydrated due to suffering from severe and incapacitating cramps. He kept giving me carafes of water and salt, not once showing any indications of annoyance. My son also mentioned how kind, accommodating and helpful everyone was at making the most important day of their lives unbelievably memorable. THANK YOU ALL! If anyone managed to get to the end of this review, please consider the Stonhouse as a venue for your special occasion. I promise you, you will be ecstatic with the quality of food and service you receive.

Went into the Stonhouse for a family meal. Unfortunately this is one of the worse restaurants in Clapham. Average food with rude and slow staff. Took nearly 25 minutes to get someone’s attention to order, then they were so rude, like we were an inconvenience. Had to continually shout over to get someone’s attentions when they would walk by and when we finally got the bill it was incorrect. Won’t be returning.

Nice decor but could be so much more. Services was unfriendly, verging on aggressive and not helped by having water spilt on me for which there was no apology nor an offer to help me dry off. I may also have had food poisoning given the diarrhoea I had after eating here. Food was mediocre at best and rather overpriced given the quality frankly. The schnitzel, while a decent sized portion was very, very average. Chips were overcooked. My companions’s burger seemed OK but again, very average. It was a busy evening so maybe the kitchen was feeling the pressure but I’ve absolutely no reason to come back here given the mediocre experience.

Read good things from their website; seasonal foods, produce from own farm alas expectations may have been too high. Food was ok but expensive. What bothered me was the continual messing up of orders. First the wrong drinks, the overcooked meat when asked for medium rare, then the fries that never arrived. The waitresses were inexperienced and there were only three of them on a packed Friday evening. I blame poor management.

Go to this pub regularly and usually have an amazing experience. We came to celebrate our engagement today but unfortunately our service was really disappointing. It took a while for our order to be taken, we then received our food before our drinks even though we could see them sat on the bar so they came warm. We then sat in front of empty plates for 20 mins at which point we asked for the bill. At no point were we offered dessert or further drinks. The bill came and the plates were still not cleared. We then asked to pay a certain amount each to cover our food bill and said we would leave a tip in cash. It was then assumed we were paying half by card and the rest in cash which again I corrected saying we wanted to pay for the food by card and we would leave a cash tip. But then it was insisted we pay the remaining £20 service in cash. I did say that the service wasn't compulsory to pay and that I said I wanted to leave a cash tip but was then informed that I had to clear the bill and pay the £20 tip which considering the service we received, I don't think was warrented especially as we left with the dirty plates still on the table. Not exactly the celebration we were expecting and disappointing considering we come to the pub often.

“If you don’t like the rhubarb, don’t eat the custard” I must express my profound disappointment with my recent dining experience at The Stonhouse. Regrettably, the culinary journey unfolded at an excruciatingly sluggish pace, with the arrival of sustenance requiring an egregious two hours. In my audacious pursuit of a perfectly cooked steak, I dared to request a medium preparation, only to be confronted with a dish that flirted shamelessly with the realms of the cerulean spectrum. The male managerial demeanour was nothing short of an affront to civility, steeped in rudeness and an unwarranted arrogance that marred the evening. It became palpable that the staff's collective enthusiasm for their vocation was noticeably absent, casting an unfortunate pall over what should have been a relaxing evening. Shame. To end this monologue in a similar vein to how I started… if you can’t service your customers, take less bookings. The male manager kept saying “we’re too busy tonight and can’t keep up with the orders.” Well… it’s not a new pub? It’s been around for years. If you keep failing to do the basic things that are asked of you, maybe reflect? Sincerely, Disappointed P.s. shoutout to the lovely lady who took the lead in remedying the situation. You were a beacon of light in the otherwise dark night.

Honestly one of the most awful services I have ever experienced. I called up to book a table, they seated us outside in the garden area. When we arrived we had to ask a member of staff what table was ours as no one came over to us. Once seated, after 30 minutes of waiting myself and my boyfriend had to go inside to find a member of staff on two separate occasions so we could order food. After waiting 10 mins for no sign of a member of staff we left. Cannot believe how awful the service is. Would not recommend.

Nicely maintained gastropub a few minutes walk from Clapham Common. The staff were very welcoming and patient, and the food was very tasty. The atmosphere of the pub was very noisy as you can imagine on a Sunday at 1:30pm, but wasn't too outrageous. We were a party of two and those tables are mostly placed further away from the larger tables which was appreciated. The food was excellent, although we noticed only a bit warm when we received, and we didnt get our yorkshire puddings - I had to get up from my table to find a staff member to let them know they had been forgotten. This happened to a larger table that we saw, where they didn't bring even one until they asked for them.

Met some friends there for Sunday lunch. Overall enjoyed it but the food could have been warmer and the Yorkshire puddings, for all of us, were cold and hard.

Nice ambience and service but the veggie roasts were very disappointing. The nut roast was strange and had a very mushy texture. Wouldn’t come here for food again.

Avoid the nut roast. Very mushy and tasted truly horrible, like something out a can. The cauliflower cheese was also hard and had no cheese. Nice garden and friendly waitress but food was truly gross.

[edited] I'll leave my feedback here rather than emailing you. I attended this pub in early December for my birthday, with my wife and dog. When we arrived we were seated promptly. The american waitress, without a greeting or asking whether it was ok, fed my dog treats. The sentiment was in the right place, however you must ask the owner if it is OK to feed their dog. This is a no brainer. I ordered the pork roast and asked for a portion of pigs in blankets with it. The young blonde waitress was great but again the american woman overruled the waitresses allowance and refused to serve me the pigs in blankets, as these were "only for the turkey roast". I offered to obviously pay but again was refused. My whole experience was soured by the american woman who needs a crash course in basic customer service. Shame, as the pub seemed lovely but i certainly will not be returning.

Nice pub with great atmosphere. Staff however were pretty unfriendly- being in a large group seemed to be more an inconvenience than a good opportunity for them.

The pub quiz was alright and standard. The MC really tried to make it fun but it wasn't my vibe. The general ambience was cozy with a mixed crowd in terms of age, but not in ethnic diversity on my visit. The staff was courteous but did not come across as friendly or upbeat. The food was very good, we had the fish n chips and cheesy chips. The chicken schnitzel was not as good. Overall a worthwhile visit if you live in the neighborhood.

we went for my birthday lunch. Best vibe and inclusive seating arrangement in London. Adults and families where sat in different section so everyone can enjoy their lunch. That is truly inclusive. The pub was light without blaring music. Best table in the restaurant and outstanding service. The flaw was the value for money for food. a tiny chicken leg and a few slices of carrots…. extra charge for yorkies and coliflour cheese. portion size was almost half of that of other pubs. The coffee was amazing !! Well done for not giving into these ‘ specialty coffees by local roaster but using a proper Italian blend. Loved the coffee so much. The service was outstanding. For these prices the waitress should get 30% of our expensive bill. But I do not think I will return as the roast was really taking the biscuit with regards to value for money

I absolutely love this place. My friend and I use to come here when we went to college nearby and the first day we came we made friends with them. They are absolutely lovely and always so welcoming. Their food and drinks are great and the atmosphere is so lovely. I came here again today after 2 years and it was still the same as I remember. They never fail to make you feel welcomed and always put a smile on our faces. Really recommend!!

Located between Clapton North and Clapton Common, within walking distance. We visited for a late lunch, mood light made the place feel warm and inviting. I can only imagine how stunning it looks at night. After a flight from Italy to London Luton, we booked our table less than two hours before arriving. Despite the short notice, the staff were incredibly accommodating, providing excellent service and flexibility with our requests. Drinks were served promptly, and food service was perfect, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal. We ordered two beef carpaccios and three mains - a burger and two salmon fillets. All dishes were flavorful! Just what we needed after our journey. We’ll definitely be back soon, especially to try their "2 for 1 steak" offer on Thursdays. That’s a must! See you soon!
