Decent pub with staff who know how to pour a pint. It’s usually busy with the after-work crowd, tucked away in the backstreets between Blackfriars and St. Paul’s. A nice break from the more touristy spots nearby whilst still having a good ambiance. There’s a wide range of beers on tap and some cool artwork and history on the walls. Definitely worth popping in for a pint or two if you’re in the area. Guinness at time of review was £6.75.

This a well hidden gem. My bartender (from Georgia didn't get her name) was great. The drink selection was very vast. They remembered me from just one visit. I ended up visiting 3 times and each time it was a fun place to grab a beer...or three. Just a short walk from the cathedral. I would highly recommend this place for a drink. I will go again next time in town.

Stopped off here this afternoon about 1pm and was met by a lovely friendly bar maid who was so accommodating and knowledgeable with her recommendations for choice of beer we decided to stop off again on our way back home. Staff a 6pm, there were two of them, they were totally different! Not the friendly welcome we’d had earlier, indifferent, belligerent and lacked knowledge of their products. 10/10 earlier 5/10 this evening!

Thought this was a great place for us to end our night in the St Paul’s area: we stood outside in the nice warmth on a summer night, stood at the barrels. Beers were good, prices were fine. Would visit again.

Less than 5 minutes from St Pauls is an area of small alleys with several restaurants and pubs. This is a traditional pub that is quite smallish but does have additional seating upstairs and an exterior standing area. Given the small bar area choice is somewhat limited, less than 10 whiskies and no cask ale. I opted for a Stella at £6.40, the service was excellent. Of particular note are the brightly painted windows and the wall painting of London outside the toilets. Food is available. I would recommend a visit to this pub if you are in the area.

Good old london pub, good food, great Guinness and nice selection of real ales. Hasn't really changed much in years and that certainly adds to the character, been back recently and starting too charge a bit too much for the Guinness now, we'll back after a while due too the trains cancelled and I take it back for the price generally about the same as most places. It's such a great pub, staff very friendly punters total mix and just a great pub. If your visiting London give it a go especially late afternoon the place is thriving and it is how the good old london pub should and used to be lots of history a pub you shouldn't miss if in town, still one of the best in town 4.5.23 Update as of 22/9/23 OK same as above the Guinness is just spot on the price is £6.40 a pint so about right nowadays unfortunately but hey. Its a lovely little hidden gem Trust me.14/12/23 still great Guinness and still 1 of my top 5 in town. Enjoy. Update 22/3/24 still a gem, definitely top 5 Guinness in town (my opinion) still gets busy give it a go.

This is predominately a drinking pub and it is excellent for it. Perfect spot after work to sink a few and relax. The staff are always accomodating and efficient. Great selection of booze served with friendly and fast service. They play the big sports matches on the TV's - World Cup/Six Nations etc.. It does get busy during the week after about 5pm but its a great atmosphere. Theres seating in and outdoors (with heaters and blankets available, just ask nicely at the bar) and when it's busy the street is filled with customers as it's a popular ''after work'' spot for many. Have had food here a few times as well and it's always served in good time and it's lovely. If you're local and looking for a regular spot for a pint or 3, I can't recommend The Rising Sun enough. Went for a pint after a long day's work working away from home only to be told that we could order drinks but would have to drink them outside as we had hi viz ppe on. This pub is not some flashy wine bar in Covent garden, it's just a corner pub in London. Absolutely disgusting that they should ask for working class men to drink outside just because they have work wear ppe on. They Happily took the £6 to £7 for a pint though!!

Like others, we found this pub by chance, while wandering along the quirky backstreets from Blackfriars to our hotel near St Paul’s. It was busy at lunchtime,so I checked with the friendly landlady if we needed to book 4 dinner that night but no prob. Being an unusually balmy ( not barmy!) night we sat outside for evening drinks, met our son then moved indoors for eats. Great atmosphere, brilliant service and good food n drinks. Love the location, tucked away around the St. Paul's area. Really helpful, friendly, competent owner/manager and staff (they handled a customer "incident" very well indeed). Personally, I find the psychedelic windows a bit troubling (saw all this the first time around, ha, ha!!) and I think the interior is in need of an awful lot of tlc to bring it up to a standard where, I am sure, they would attract a LOT more customers. There are not enough "normal" seats/tables - mostly bar stools - and those in place at the moment are rather reminiscent of an old people's home. The flooring is also rather grim and a little hazardous in area - definitely one or two trip risks. I feel a bit sad about this pub, because I really think that, if it had some money thrown at it, it would repay it many times over. Thanks to the lovely staff for looking after us the other day!

A short walk from our rooms and nearer still to Smithfield Market (open 2 am to 10 am, for those wishing to buy their meat earlier in the day), The Viaduct Tavern often is compared to the Princess Louise in the sumptuousness of its decor. But it is more renown as a true Gin Palace, where the list of gin and tonics runs to several pages (we were introduced to a Classic G&T, No. 3), the ice chipped from a glistening block of slowly melting ice. The magnificently foliated red ceiling, which variously has been described as beaten copper or tin, plaster or stucco, actually is Lincrusta, whose inventor changed his formulation for linoleum so it could be applied to walls and ceilings. Downstairs, if Jasmine has the time to show you, is a coal cellar, the hole in the ceiling, the opening through which it was poured from street level. (They’re not the cells of Newgate or a debtor’s prison but no less interesting for that.) Indeed, being able to see the casks from which the Fuller’s London Pride was being pulled is a treat in itself. If you intend to eat there, the ham and cheese toastie is especially good. And, if you also intend to have wine, certainly more than one glass, consider ordering the Saint Marc Sauvignon and taking the unfinished bottle with you. You’ll also want to reserve a seat, which The Viaduct does admirably well. On Thursdays, the busiest day of the week when patrons stand shoulder to shoulder, shouting over one another to be heard, you probably should retreat to Table 5 in the corner, a little nook that offers some refuge from the office workers prematurely celebrating the end of the week. We went there every other evening—always wanting the last experience of the day to be at The Viaduct—a feeling made possible by Jasmine and Sergio (who welcomed us so warmly on our first visit, when we had arrived in London only two hours earlier), Victor and Paige.

I’ve lunched here many times & have always rated it as an overall good experience. Sadly on this occasion (5:45 sitting) I found it extremely noisy, celeriac starter smothered in oil, coq au vin delicious flavours although lacking in quantity of meat. The 15% ‘discretionary’ service charge is non adjustable (I wanted it changed to 10%). Disappointing as I was entertaining a friend who hadn’t been before 😕.
