Nell Gwynne Tavern in City of London, Westminster

For a proper London pub so close to Covent Garden to be as good as this is quite amazing. Not touristy with a FREE jukebox loaded by the likes of Bowie, the Pixies, Bloc Party and Nick Cave it’s my go to bar in town. And they serve bottles of weiss beer too. What’s not to like ?

This is, for me, the perfect London boozer. Steeped in history, decked in wood, small, intimate - it even has a jukebox. Great selection of ales, very well kept. Can't recommend enough.

An unforgettable pub evening, first class service and we were lucky enough to occupy the jukebox and thus the playlist. Friendly reception from regular guests. Place to be.

Great place for a few pints and good music

Just an absolutely lovely place. Staff was beyond kind (Greta was amazing!!!) and the athmosphere in general was so cozy and inviting. A lucky find lead to a brilliant night. I hope to visit again someday.

Hemos venido aquí durante más de 15 años al menos dos veces al mes. Estaba absolutamente helado cuando llegamos hoy. La puerta estaba abierta de par en par y cuando me dirigí a lo frío que hacía me dijeron que era una salida de emergencia? Una broma de este tipo puede cerrar la puerta y en caso de una emergencia empujar para abrirla. ¡Qué pena! Es como si me imaginara beber en una nevera. En realidad dejamos nuestras bebidas y fuimos a un pub caliente sobre la carretera.

£10 for 2 soggy crackers, past their sell by date grapes, and a couple of bits of cheese is a complete rip-off!

Lovely lively little English pub situated in the alley way. It has a cool smoking area outside where you can sit perched listening to sing-along music. Good options for Gins and not overly expensive. The toilets are based down steep steps with a brilliant decor of beer mats.

Lovely traditional pub, hidden away just off Strand. Team were friendly and attentive. Reasonable prices. Only had one in here, as they close about 10pm on a Sunday. Take care on your way down to the loo!

¡Qué joya! Escondido, este peculiar pub tradicional es fácil de perder. Su personal amable era conversador y acogedor. La máquina de discos de CD retro de juego libre era una bonificación. Las bebidas, aunque todavía son espléndidas (está en el centro de Londres) eran las más baratas que encontramos localmente. La próxima vez que volvamos, probaremos las tablas de queso, se ven deliciosas.

While it may be tucked away, it's one to definitely spend the time searching one with a friendly set of staff and a great selection of beers and beautiful art on the walls. Will be back there for sure!

Wonderful little pub just off the strand. The staff were outstanding and very friendly. It's got a free jukebox with a great selection. Definitely go there again when up town.

A gem of a pub hidden away between busy Strand and Covent Garden. Tucked away in a small alleyway where everyone finds a bit of peace and quiet away from the London hassle in this popular pub. Team behind the bar is great and they serve really good beers. Also a broad selection of Gin. Great selection of songs on the free jukebox. Haven't tried any food in there so cannot rate that part. Best pub in the area.

Excellent customer service, very good music, since you can choose what you want to listen to in a very sophisticated "artifact." The beers are delicious, the spaces are beautiful, an old style and since it is in an alley, it becomes more exclusive and private.

Decent choice of beers and friendly service. The reason for 3 in food category is a cheese plater that was pretentious at best and hard to navigate (never min overpriced and taking a while to arrive). If you are there for a pint go for it, if you are hungry, find a different place.

This unassuming little pub is undoubtedly London's best-kept secret; tucked away from the bustling city, it's a charming oasis that you'd easily miss if not shown.

A cool little backstreet bar just off the strand that has a bit of character amongst the many family friendly restaurants. We stayed for a drink or two after a show. The jukebox is old school and the bar itself is small but you can stand outside and be social. I'd return here and chill more.

The guiness was absolutely not poured correctly. I was a little ashamed for the bartender. Too cold too fast and too much head...sry guys maybe teach your staff to do things right. ..other than that it was a normal irish bar

Nice little pub hidden upan alley. Doesn't let kids through the door, there are places to sit outside though and that is fine. Good victorian pub decor with some lovely ginger jars if you happen to enjoy ceramics

What a fantastic pub. There has been a drinking establishment on this site since the 1600's according to one of the staff. We literally stumbled across it today after I glimpsed flowers down the side alley. Lovely piece of London history.

Love this place. Not been in years but when in The City I will try and make it. Staff great, drinks choice great and the meats and cheese board a treat. Try and find it then enjoy

Well definitely NOT what I expected. I was very much of the mind that this will be yet another rather sad tourist trap tucked away just off The Strand. What a wonderful surprise when I was met with a small, but politely enthusiastic crowd outside in Bull Inn Court enjoying the sunshine. It got even better inside what turned out to be quite a small pub but with so much of everything: the atmosphere was fantastic (the football was on, but nobody was going crazy), the staff and the drinkers were all happy enjoying the day, with the drinkers moving away from the bar quickly to allow others in to get there next drink, the décor was eclectic to say the least with lots of Nell Gwynne memorabilia on the walls throughout. There was even a free juke box on the wall in the left hand side corner as you enter (it does work, just press the red buttons). The only thing I might mention, is just be a little careful when popping downstairs to the loo, as the ceiling can sneak up on you! I now think of this as one of my great finds in London and would not hesitate in going back with friends or family, tourists or otherwise. The Guinness was excellent as was the London Pride.

Tucked away down an alleyway off the Strand is this great boozer. The jukebox is free and has CD collections. Hold the red button on the front to turn the pages of the tracks, to the left or right. You choose the CD number, e.g. 119, then the track number on that CD, e.g. 29. It'll play after the current queue. There are CDs by artist, and selections by the pub. The time delay between tracks can be reduced by choosing tracks on the same CD.

Another first for me, tucked away down a small alley off the Strand evidenced by the lack of tourists. Inside it's pretty small so customers inevitably spill out into the alleyway, so be prepared to dodge Deliveroo cyclists and the rest. Good selection of lagers (Camden Hells, London Pilsner) and ales (London Pride, Landlord). Definitely one to recommend if you want something central but not too touristy despite the location.

Waited to be served as staff was chatting not making eye contact with customers at the bar. Asked for a specific drink then was served Coke Zero, not told that is all they have on draft. I have a food intolerance of artificial sweetener and not taking in consideration that a customer asked for a drink, staff need to ask me f it is Diet Coke, Coke Zero or full fat Coke, not just assume everyone drinks Coke Zero.

Great place, always end up there when in London, toilets downstairs and watch your head when going down. The bar is tiny but there is the outside area too.

Popped in this afternoon with my wife and 17 year old daughter and was told by the miserable bald straight faced barman that we weren’t welcome as my daughter was under age. Never had this response in any pub in London before. Went down the road to the Ship and Shovel. What a difference. Of course you can come in.
